Blink. Stare. Blink. Stare.

Vergil's brain momentarily shut down upon seeing their sire...in kitsu form as they, no less, and he continued to sit and gawk like a complete idiot for a moment longer, before eyes moved back into his skull where they belonged and the elder twin was able to think again. "Hello, Father..." There was a warmth to the words that was usually reserved for Dante. He had indeed missed Sparda...for the two had gotten along rather well back when Vergil was younger...he'd never expected to see him again.

Surprise, surprise.

Atae grinned and wagged her tails. They were happy! Both of them. It thrilled her to no end to have done something Dante and Vergil could really appreciate. And really... she was content to let them catch up for a few minutes. It defied all logic, but, this particular descendant of Dante Sparda had never really liked being loud.

She shut the door quietly to keep the chill from sucking all the warm air out and padded over to a spot near the jukebox where there was a vent. The heat kicked on just before she got there because of the drop in temperature from having the door open and she gratefully warmed up her cold toes.

Sparda finally did let go of Dante and then padded over to Vergil, greeting him in a (slightly) more refined fashion. Which meant he raised a paw to completely muss up the elder twin's hair. "Hello yourself," he said, leaning in until he was inches from the other's nose. "You've grown ... both of you," he said then, backing up a bit to look from one twin to the other. "And I heard that you've been busy!"

Dante actually flushed slightly at that and shot a glance at his twin before nodding. "Uhm. ... Yea, about that...."

Vergil batted his father away, combing back his hair with a paw, and it settled back in his usual fashion. "Father!" The other knew how much Vergil disliked having his hair mussed...but then...Sparda was one of the only three ever who could get away with it.

But then...his father mentioned...yes...the thing that was probably the touchiest subject with the elder twin. His gaze went stormy and he settled back, forepaws draping over the edge of the couch. "Yes...about that." It was clear that he was quite unhappy with the entire situation...still...and that included himself.

Sparda blinked at the both of them, then glanced over at Atae and back. Voice lowered a little, he murmured, "Seems I've hit on ... somewhat of a touchy subject."

"Well, not really.." Dante started, then glanced at Vergil and ducked his head, almost guiltily, cutting himself off. "Ok sure. So it is ... " And now, he sounded almost angry. Was his twin ever going to let it go...? Probably not. Sighing softly, he sat down and sort of ... explained things, from his end at least. How the first set of kits had been with Kadaj ... before he even knew Vergil was alive. And the the second set ... he explained almost at a whisper. A fling, a one-night stand ... that one had been a mistake. But he still didn't regret the results of it...

And that, perhaps was the trouble...Dante didn't seem to regret it...regret hurting his brother, yes, but not...doing it...not producing children. He didn't want his twin to regret their existence, simply the actions that led up to it...but he never...seemed to get that from his brother, and every so often it would come back up...unresolved.

Vergil listened, silent...and clearly unhappy. He didn't like to talk about it...he really didn't.

But finally...it was his turn. "I had a demon in my head." He explained succinctly, "Or at least there were a pair mucking about...and...they wanted to drive a rift between Dante and I...and they supposed the best way to do that was for...me to have an affair with a lady...and I suppose they used her as well...when it was revealed that our actions had caused children...well...there wasn't much we could do about it at the time..." Dante seemed to have gotten over it well enough.

Sparda looked from one twin to the other, sighing inwardly. It seemed ... that things really hadn't changed all that much between them. Except that he could hear the depth of feeling in Vergil's tone, see it in his posture. It seemed the relationship between them that he had seen the beginnings of had only gotten stronger ... or neither would care so much about this issue.

The older demon considered for a moment saying something to them ... in the way of counsel. But ... they were both big boys now. Best to let them work this out on their own, unless things got out of hand. "Well ..." he said slowly, "It doesn't particularly matter how things came about, only that there are children now. And what matters is how they are treated..."

Dante smiled at that, a relieved sort of expression and leaned in to butt his head against Sparda's shoulder. "Yea ... you're right about that, Dad," he said, glancing at his twin with a sort of hopeful look. He didn't really like the way this kept coming up either but ... maybe...

It was hard...for Vergil to see the children disjointed from what had happened...but he was trying, and trying very hard at that, and he sighed softly, coming down off that couch. "The actions do matter...matter very much...but I do agree...that that should not affect the children themselves...I suppose it took having my own to make me see that."

Sitting down alongside his twin, Vergil eyed him a moment before nosing at him gently, as though to tell him it was all right...he wasn't angry because of the matter...not right now, at least.

"I think he meant more ... yea. Like that way," Dante murmured just after Vergil spoke, tensing up again just a little. It was always something ... but he relaxed again when his twin came over beside him. Leaning against the other just a bit, the younger twin purred softly. They'd be ok... might take some time, but they'd be ok.

Watching the two of them, Sparda smiled ... and let them have their moment. Until he figured it had been long enough and pounced both of them at once. "Well either way I want to meet all of these children of yours! Both of you ... seems I've been gone for a long time ... I want to hear everything..."

Atae had all but curled up on the vent to get warm again, listening quietly to the conversation. Seems her Grampa and his brother were closer than she'd thought... closer than she really understood. She loved everyone at the Place and all, and her family, but she'd just never had any sort of tight familial bond. She was closer to her psuedo-brothers, Terasu and Edward, than she was to her blood siblings. Heck... she didn't even know if Daeva and Garen were still on the Mountain these days. It sort of made her jealous.

She stood up and padded slowly over to Vergil, a hint of her timidness showing throught her actions. "Ah... I know I probably remind you of things you don't like to think about... and I'm sorry I've never really taken the time to try and get to know you, but if it means anything, I'm glad to have you for an uncle."

One of Sparda's ears flicked as Atae got up and he watched as she padded over and spoke to Vergil. The older kitsu smiled at that ... maybe the key to this dilemma facing his own children lay in their young ones.

Dante blinked when Atae suddenly walked over to Vergil and then smiled at her, somehow very proud of his granddaughter. He knew that Atae wasn't usually a very outgoing sort of kitsu ...

Vergil could not help but be taken aback by that, as none of Dante's children or grandchildren had ever approached him like this, most not having the nerve, or the others just understanding how he felt and never saying a word on the subject, quietly accepting. This little lass was different.

"Well...I...suppose I should than you, young lady...for that statement...I can truly say its the first time anything of the kind has been said to me." He inclined his head in her direction, his own sort of gratitude, "Thank you."
