Your Gaia Name: TheMadHatter Characters: Thea Your RP paragraph:She'd left her two friends for some much needed alone time and headed down to the beach. Alone meaning now with anything else around because Van's family should have been way at the other end of the beach. Alone didn't mean that someone should be screaming for help while she was trying to relax. "Ugh ....." Shaking her shore mane out she turned around and blinked as she saw two large birds trying to make off with clam shells that were much larger than they were. It took a moment longer for her to notice the half fish half twolegger thing that was flailing about in the surf. If she didn't help and Kal found out about it she'd get an ear full.
"You don't have to yell you know .... well maybe you do but anyway." She trotted up the beach toward the fishboy and the offending birds. They weren't that high and even if they did mage to get up there she could too. Getting herself under one of the shells she butted her head against it and jarred the bird who had a hold of it. The osprey's offended squark made her grin and she butted the shell again. "Come on you featherhead, put that down. You couldn't eat it even if you wanted to and you know it!" It would have taken both birds to get the shell open and whatever was in it would go bad before they could finish it off.
She continued to huff at the birds and knock the shells with her head until she could get her wings ontop of them. That way she could push down while the birds pushed up and hopefully tire them out. They'd have to let go and give up, she was bigger after all. Once she got one shell low enough she nipped at the birds tail feathers. "'et'oooo!" The shell thunked against the sand at her feet and she grinned as she spit out the birds feathers. "Teach you to bite off more than you can chew." Now, for the other birdbrain ......Which kelpi shell do you want?: Wahoo

Your Gaia Name: Xaki Characters: Helios & KhanYour RP paragraph: Helios and Khan were both walking alongside each other, on the sand leading to the beach where Ajadi stood.
"Eh?" Khan asked, at the human that appeared to be flailing and jumping up and down, screaming at the top of his lungs. He trotted closer to find out what the commotion was, a grin fixated on his face.
"Do whatever you wish." Helios said simply, privately enduring thoughts that, that human was a madman. Nevertheless, he followed Khan, until he saw the Kawani pointing above at the clouds, apparently going on or some and other about two birds.
"I cant understand him at all." Khan said complaining, whining to Helios as Helios came into view. "Of course you couldnt. Why didnt it sink into your brain earlier, I wonder." Helios rolled his eyes, before his gaze turned back from the Merlock to the birds and back to the Merlock.
Walking over to Helio's side, Khan raised an eyebrow at Helios. "Those birds look like their carrying something mighty tempting." Helios shrugged. "Why should I care?" He asked dully, bored, and wishing to go back.
"Because if you dont, you'll have to put up with me and Mushu wheeeerver you go." Khan said slyly, his eyes looking mischievous. "Did someone call my name? Hooo' baby!" Mushu popped out of Khan's flap bag, and was not staring at the two birds, going farther and farther away but at Helios with heart-filled eyes. "You wouldn't." Helios eye's were wide open. "Try me." Khan drawled out.
Giving a final glare, over his shoulder, Helios had a running start, and with a flap of his wings, pushed his wings into flight. His speed was more than a match for the seabirds that were weighed by the kelpi shells. Far more experienced in battle, he decided to use the untastely method -- if only out of anger and irritation at Khan's threat, he rammed against both birds, the collision was bound to affect at least the bird or kelp, according to his calculations. It was as simple as a bat hitting a ball. "Now, as a appreciation of Khan's unseemly threats hanging over my head, and my associating with a human, you'll have to pay dearly for that." He was left with a grin that suited the devil, and a gleam for blood, particularly. Which kelpi shell do you want?: Wahoo~~! Editted: To toss the links in, and fix some minor spelling issues. XD;

Your Gaia Name: Skye Starrfyre Characters: Telikos & TapangaYour RP paragraph: He wasn't quite sure why he had come to the beach that day. There had to be some reason. Oh yes... That's right. He had promised Lady Luck that he would find something to distract Tapanga... Which was why Tapanga had come along with him on his venture. Her eyes went wide as a gleam of light hitting something shiney caught her attention. "Mine!" She darted towards it, paying no mind to the great, swooping birds or the flailing boy. "MINE!" She demanded insistantly as she fluttered about, trying to shoo the birds away.He hadn't expected... Oh, hell, who was he kidding. He had indeed expected Tapanga to flutter off somewhere and lose herself. Truthfully, he would have preferred it had she done so but now she had gotten herself into trouble and he? He was going to have to get her out of it.
He stomped at the beach, kicking up sand before lowering his horn to charge. The birds still seemed low enough to be within striking range. Whatever it was they were trying to drag off seemed to be weighing them down... Taking aim he charged across the beach, sand kicking up around him. It was time to bowl for buzzards.Which kelpi shell do you want?: Mahi-Mahi heart

Your Gaia Name: Lord_pippa_Ari Characters: Inali or Black Fox (Indian Persona) Your RP paragraph: Inali blinked, his golden yellow eyes moving from the deer he had been stalking toward the ocean. Had he really heard someone calling for help? Frowning, and noticing the deer was long gone, Inali turned and ran down the mountain trail, his long braid flying out behind him. Damn it...That deer would have been his meal for quite some time, and as it was becoming much harder to catch anything these days.... Inali shook his head, sighing as he came to the beach. Maybe whoever was here would trade him food for his help, much as he disliked being around other people.
"What the--?!" Inali blinked, watching the man in the water as he struggled with the shells that were being attacked. "Hey, just let them go!" Inali called, watching for a moment more before sighing and pulling out his bow again, aiming arrows at the birds so that they would by close enough to just scare the birds before he let the arrows fly. Your Gaia Name: Rapidashtrainer Characters: Elan (Thelerian’s Hawk Familiar) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v141/Rapidashtrainer/therlian.jpgYour RP paragraph: Its gills moved with a laboured rhythm as it tried to get what moisture it could out of the cold dry autumn air. However, when clutched between the terrifying talons of a hawk, even the fish, simple as it was, could see that it was a lost cause. Elan shifted his position slightly to accommodate the weak struggling of his prey. It was indeed a magnificent fish, so full of life and determination to live. And as expected, it had given Elan a good fight. Now, Elan was tired…and hungry. As the hawk was about to sink his beak into his well earned prey, a series of frantic shouts and cries could be heard. Curious, Elan (with the fish still clutched in his talons) moved closer to the sound of the commotion. At first glance, the hawk had perceived the problem to be with the two-legger. Elan didn’t blame him; his lower body was already half consumed by a great fish and the fish was no doubt trying to work its way up the rest of the human by trashing about in the water in a frantic sort of way. Upon a more detailed observation however, Elan soon realized that the problem was not as obscure as he had initially perceived. The human was making jabbing motions in the air where two ospreys were evidently making off with some large shells belonging to him. And upon those shells were placed a set of rare looking shining stones. As far as Elan could tell, humans do not willingly place shiny stones on shells or on any other things unless they were deemed important. Perhaps what was being contained and protected within those shells was something of immense value to this human. He was after all forgetting that he was being eaten by a fish… Elan shifted his weight and blinked his fierce brown eyes as he observed the scene before him. Should he help the human retrieve those shells from the ospreys? Oh, Elan knew what would make those ospreys relinquish their prize but…he was reluctant to do it. Digging his talons into his catch (still alive but no longer struggling), Elan was torn between helping the noisemaking human and keeping his prey. A sudden shrill but triumphant cry from one of the ospreys however finally made Elan side with the human. Those ospreys had no right to mock others and they were in his hunting territory after all! Taking flight, Elan returned their cry with a screech of his own and once he was certain that he had caught their attention, Elan (heavy-hearted as he was) released his catch. If all went well, the two ospreys would make for the fish and release their hold on those shells. The shells would then drop back onto the watery sand where the human would no doubt be able to retrieve it. Which kelpi shell do you want?: The Mahi-Mahi shell. =3

Your Gaia Name: [Celeste] Characters: Evadne Your RP paragraph: Evadne lifted her head up out of a small berry bush, her ears perked. She had just heard sudden cries of help; where had they come from? She looked over into the direction of a nearby beach that could be seen through an opening of trees. She trotted over through the trees and paused, surprised by what she saw. It was one of those fish people! From the looks of his visage and body language, he seemed quite in distress. She surveyed her surroundings, looking through the trees and bushes, and then looking up into the sky. She was about to look off somewhere else, but took a double take back into the sky as she saw something sparkle against the sun’s rays.
Evadne watched as two birds of prey carried off their prize. They seemed like normal shells to her at first, but then she saw the small gems glowed in the sunlight. Perhaps they were what the merlok showed great concern over? Well it was quite obvious that there was no way for him to retrieve what he had lost. But still, she couldn’t just leave while she knew that someone needed help. There had to be some way to get the shells back.
Evadne continued on past trees, making sure as to look up now and then to be sure that she was following behind the osprey. But, what was she going to do when she got there? With them flying about in the air, there was no way that she could jump high enough to get at them, even if her own life depended on it! Little did Evadne know though, was that two little lives were depending on it.
Evadne was now almost right below them! She had to think of something quick before the two birds would fly up higher into the sky, and completely out of reach. Perhaps she could surprise them into letting go of the shells? But what could she do? ‘ Hmm…’, she thought to herself, trying to hatch out a small plot. Had the osprey even noticed her following them? Probably not, the whistling wind that blew past them possibly muffled out the sounds of her hooves pounding the dirt ground.
Well there was only one thing left that she could do, or at least that was all that she knew of doing. She started to let out a loud, shrill whinny. She was unsure whether if the osprey had good enough hearing, or that they could even hear her over the roaring winds. She just hoped that her sudden loud cries would alarm them, and, with a bit of luck, release their grip of the shells. ‘Come on…come on…’ she thought as she continued on with her high-pitched neighing. This was all that she could do; she had no idea what else to do if it failed.

Your Gaia Name: Reeve_Tuesti Characters: Tal {My Indian persona} & Rajiv {My garnet stallion} Which kelpi shell do you want?: Both are gorgeous and I would be thrilled with either, but the stripes on the Wahoo shell make it even better. *pets the stripes* XD Your RP paragraph: "HELP HELP!! SOMEONE HELP ME!!"Tal gave a yelp at the piercing cry and promptly dropped the armload of driftwood he'd been carrying from the beach. Why had he been collecting driftwood? He found it made rather beautiful decorations when carved and burned surprisingly well when his carvings turned out not quite so beautiful. And this spot always caught the biggest selection. Rajiv had grazing nearby on a patch of sparse sea grass, keeping one eye on his ungainly two-legger, who always seemed to be getting into trouble. He gave a snort and lifted his head, one ear tilting back as Tal dropped his burden with a cry. It was almost as piercing as the cry echoing from further down the beach. Recovering from his shock, Tal took off down the beach, bare feet kicking up sand, Rajiv at his heels. Skidding to a halt, the young Indian blinked at the half fish/half person creature shouting on the beach before he ducked as two large forms swept overhead, barely missing him. His soquili was not so lucky, giving a loud whinny of pain/surprise as he was smacked into, stumbling back a pace or two. A speckled blue and white shell fell to the sand at their feet, the osprey giving a sharp screech of annoyance at loosing it's prize. Rajiv snorted and reared, pawing at the escaping birds, Tal chortling at him still. "Serves you right for being so tall." He chuckled before blinking, raising a brow slightly. The other bird was carrying another one of those strange shells....The realization hit him like an overenthusiastic foal. That must be what the strange fish man had been yelling about. "Alright then." He muttered to himself, eyes sweeping over the sand. Sand, that strange shell, more sand, but no rocks to throw...Maybe he could manage with shells washed up on shore. Rocks were better, but he'd make due. Grabbing up a handful of shells, he started pelting the remaining osprey with them, much to the bird's dismay. "Come on! Drop it already!" He shouted, hurling a particularly spiny shell at the retreating bird, who squawked and released it's hold on the striped shell. It fell into the ocean with a splash. "Urg." Tal made a face as the shell hit the water, wincing at the splash. Staring at the spot the shell had fallen, he hoped that the fish man would be so grateful that the shell was safe, that he'd retrieve it and not ask why the Indian boy hadn't gone in and gotten it. Tal had a good reason why...He couldn't swim after all. {{Edited to link Rajiv's picture in}}

Your Gaia Name: Firkasa Characters: VerlorenYour RP paragraph:A strange sight stuck out from the beach as a brilliant green stallion took a stroll along the sandbanks with golden hooves that sank into the sand. His eyes watched the sea in content as he finally felt at peace…
A suddenly scream for help startled the dazed Verloren and forced the stallion to rear up as two large birds came into view flying low within close proximity to the stallion. Ears perked up as Verloren watched the birds with his golden eyes, each carried off what looked to be a rather large shell. Turning his head quickly, the green stallion spotted the familiar face of the Merlok prince as the boy scrambled about in panic. It looked like the prince had brought those shells to shore and they were promptly pilfered from him in a timely manner.
Before the prince could shout again, Verloren turned his hooves lightly as if he were in battle and started chasing after the birds, who were flying rather low due to the weight of the large shells… but they were gaining air and speed under their wings fast! Not being a wind soquili, the green stallion knew that he could never truly catch the two birds with his hooves alone. Instead, the stallion took a quick detour to the small pools of sea water that surrounded the coast and began a frantic search. Golden eyes glinted off the surface of the water as Verloren kept a vigilant eye on whatever he was looking for. Finally, the stallion’s eyes widened just enough to show that he’d found what he’d been searching for and dipped his muzzle into the water, despite its saltiness, to retrieve his query.
A fish that was trapped in the pools due to the sudden ebbing of the high tide flopped around weakly in the stallion’s mouth as Verloren held the fish carefully by the tail. It was a rather large fish but being crapped up in such a small pool made the poor fish very weak and it was on the verge of dying.
“Sorry, a-tsa-di,” Verloren thought sadly, his eyes closed, praying to the fish. “I don’t want to give up your life in exchange to help another but… if your spirit is willing, please let me aid the prince in his time of need.” The fish quietly faded away in the stallion’s grasp and calmly became limp as if to answer his plea.
Carefully, Verloren raced towards the bird’s direction with his catch in his mouth, hoping that he could make it in time. As his hooves touched the earth and his body charged forward, the stallion put forth enough energy to race a little past the large birds. With a hefty swing of his head Verloren reared high into the air and threw the fish up into the sky in hopes that it would distract one of the birds from their shell… or at least hit one of them in their low flight path. Which kelpi shell do you want?: Mahi-Mahi shell please <3 Quick note: A-tsa-di is "fish" in Cherokee ^^;

Your Gaia Name: Eff Em Characters: Korofi and Slytherin Your RP paragraph:“Hey, hey!" Korofi shouted over his shoulder at the charging Kalona. "I'm just saying, I think you could teach me a lot! No need to get all huffy!”
"Stupid, pathetic boy," Slytherin snarled, scarlet eyes narrowed. "Why would I waste my time on you? I’m warning you, don’t bother me again!” He slowed down as Korofi crossed onto the sand. He found the beach rather distasteful, reeking of salt and fish. The stallion wasn’t that worthy of being pursued.
Koro huffed. “It wouldn’t be a waste!” he said. “Just because I don’t have horns and wings doesn’t mean I’m inferior. Just give me a chance! I could prove that I…”
The screeching of the ospreys distracted him. What was that all about? He turned to look, blinking in surprise at the great birds struggling to carry the shells away. What a rush it would be to fight them and win over the glimmering shells! In an instant he forgot the green Kalona and was rushing out onto the sand, a battle scream erupting from his mouth. He barely even noticed the shouting Ajadi.
Slytherin snorted, pinning his ears back. Not only did the runt think he was well-bred enough to deserve his teaching, but he had the gall to run off, distracted by some stupid birds? No, no, that wouldn’t do. Even the thought of the beach didn’t deter him from running forward, bypassing the blue and white stallion quickly. He, too, let out a loud cry, baring his fangs at the birds. His leathery wings beat loudly and he lashed his tail. It wasn’t long until the birds had dropped the shells, which thankfully landed in soft piles of sand, unharmed.
But he didn’t care about the shells. He had only wanted to spite the stallion. Turning to him, he curled his lip back. “Don’t bother trying to be the hero,” he said coldly. “There will always be someone better than you.”
Korofi flattened his ears, both angry and embarassed. But before he could make a retort, Slytherin had turned and stomped away.
Mumbling angrily under his breath, he turned to look at the fallen shells, but they were gone, as was the strange man-fish. But that didn't bother him, only the shame from being so easily bested by the green stallion.Which kelpi shell do you want?: Mahi-Mahi <3

Your Gaia Name: Dollfie Characters: Cala, my Indian persona
Your RP paragraph:
Humming softly to herself, Cala made her way further down the beach in search of more morsels to add to the evening meal. Upon her hip was balanced a large basket that was nearly full of the best clams she had been able to dig up, though with the crowd she was feeding she’d need a few more.
The sound of screaming nearby pierced the air, startling her out of her dish-planning daydreams. “What in the stars . . . ?” she murmured, and jogged around the rocks to take a look at what turned out to be a most unusual sight.
“Aaah . . . hellooo? Do you need any help?” Lingering in the waves was a rather panicked looking young man, flailing around after a pair of ospreys. And he had fins . . .
“Oh!” Cala exclaimed as she noticed the brightly colored and patterned shells that each bird clutched in their talons. These, obviously, were something that belonged to the Merloks, and were clearly Not Bird Food. She had to get them back from those thieving birds before they got away from that Merlok! Setting down her basket, Cala ran closer and picked up some smooth stones to throw at the two birds.
Being the lousy aim she was, she of course missed. The stones were just too small.
“Wait! I know!” she said to herself as she dashed back over to her basket. The clams she had collected were much bigger than the rocks, so she could use them instead! But they weren’t very heavy compared to rocks . . .
Cala let out a frustrated little sigh. What she really needed was something to distract them with! Something that they’d think was more interesting than those shells, like food . . .
“Oh. Right.” Resisting the urge to slap herself on the forehead, Cala instead grabbed her basket and ran over to the ospreys and set it down as close as she could. She hastily fished out an armful of the largest ones and a few that had been crushed open and scattered them around the basket, hoping that they would be enough to tempt the greedy birds to drop the shells.
“Come and get it!” she shouted, hoping, for the Merlock’s sake, that this would work.

Your Gaia Name: DemeterJade Characters: Nirvelli (Indian persona) Your RP paragraph: Nirvelli was out gathering fruit for the Kawani tribespeople when she heard a cry for help coming from the beach. Not knowing what she would see, she ran lightly to a spot behind a tree where she could peer out at the sand. The sight that greeted her made her instantly rush from her cover, spilling her foraged food to the ground. She noticed the merlock and she wondered just what he was, he seemed to come from myths, but her main concern was for the two shells that the osprey were trying to carry away. The two birds were too much for her to handle on her own but she had no idea if she would have enough time to get help in saving the shells. She looked around for anything or anyone that could help her, her eyes alighting on a patch of driftwood. She thought about using it to chase the birds but was afraid of them harming the shells or in her clumsyness, hitting the shells herself. The birds were starting to get away when she remembered her gathering basket. Running back to where she had dropped it, she quickly stripped the leaves off a few of the nearby bushes and threw them into the basket, making sure that she didn't pack them down but that there was a lot in there. She raced back to the beach and grabbed a piece of driftwood, before running directly at the large birds. Her movements led her closer to the osprey that was trying to take the green shell away but she was hoping that she could throw her basket close enough to being under the blue shell. As she got nearer, she started yelling angrily at the birds, ordering them to drop the shells as they weren't for them to eat. She came closer and threw her basket one-handedly, spilling the gathered leaves in a semi-pile nearly under the other bird. Inside she was praying that her trying to scare the birds into dropping the shells would work and she could at least catch the green one with the blue landing safely on the leaves. A few more steps to go.. her mind was racing as fast as her feet, "Please don't let the shells be harmed"Which kelpi shell do you want?: Mahi-Mahi

Your Gaia Name: Ramenli Characters: Ramenli (to be used until I come up with Indian character) Your RP paragraph:
Ramen squished her way along the beach, along the tide line so that the waves brushed her feet. Ahead she saw two osprey flying. Those pesky birds had made a mess of their beautiful beach ever since they had come. She kept walking, determined to enjoy her day and not think negatively. Then she caught sight of the young prince as he flailed his arms. The faint strains of the word “help” reached her ears and she ran forward.
As she drew closer she saw that the ospreys were lugging what appeared to be large shells. This which apparently distressed Prince Ajadi. Ramen’s mind raced. It was easy, she’d simply throw rocks at the osprey and cause them to drop the shells! By now she was close enough that she could clearly make out the birds and the beautiful shells that they were flying with. Then her heart sank into despair as she remembered her rather pathetic aim. If she tried to hit them she would probably hit the shells, or miss completely.
Her mind busily thought of all she knew about ospreys and birds. There was no way that she would be able to tantalize them with food because she had none that they would want. Nor could she obtain any by herself in the amount of time she had. She slowed to a brisk meander and searched in her backpack. She quickly passed over her human lunch. Her hand grasped at a mirror. One of the many things she carried “just in case.”
She knew only a few things about the birds she was chasing. One that they liked fish,. Two that they had a superb sense of sight. She also knew that some birds were attracted to shiny things. She wasn’t sure if ospreys would fit into that category, but she had to take a chance. She stopped, and then reflected the light off of the mirror towards the birds. She constantly swiveled the mirror to try to shine the light onto their heads. With any luck it would temporarily blind them and cause them to drop their cargo. Or they may even come after the mirror. With her breath held she watched, and waited in anticipation for the birds’ response.

Your Gaia Name: Lunarflowermaiden Characters: CalanthaYour RP paragraph: Ever since the event at the beach, Calantha and Ardin made sure to go down to the beach every day, halting their travels through the lands for the time being. Today was no different, only it was very early in the morning and Ardin was still asleep, Calantha had set off on her own, knowing Ardin would sleep for several more hours.
She slowly made her way down the beach, staring out at the ocean from time to time, looking for any sign of life. It was only when she heard the two-legger's cry for help, that she saw them a good hundred yards down the beach. She watched as the two-legger defended two shells from two large ospreys, and soon realized it was the fish prince from several days ago.
Calantha knew she had to help the young fish-prince, since he really was a fish out of water, against foes that could fly. Knowing she had to act fast she started to gallop forward, but she was usually not one to act without thinking it through first. She knew she didn't want to harm the birds, being quite at home up in the sky with the birds, she had befriends many. But she also didn't want any harm to come to the shells, knowing the precious lives stored within. Her thoughts were quickly drowned out by the screach of one of the birds, she watched it's talons scraped noisely against the fragile shell.
It was decided in that moment, that if she had to she would harm the birds, but never kill them. She galloped as fast as she could, before launching herself in the air, hoping she could scare them off with a few quick dives and nips at their tail feathers. Only time would tell.

Your Gaia Name: Sayuri_Nitta Characters: Kaliska (indian persona) and DoryYour RP paragraph: Kaliska hummed softly, a tune her mother had taught her, the stone knife passing over the wood she was whittling in a smooth, even cutting motion. She paused, looking over at the mare in the shallows that she knew as Dory, laughing out loud as she scampered away from the incoming wavelets, and then chased them back out again as the tide retreated; in and out, a game the mare never got tired of.
Kaliska blew shavings from her fingers, then stopped again, dead still as she listened hard over the sounds of the water. There it was again; a cry for help, she stood abruptly, dropping the wood and sliding the knife into her belt. She ran off, her feet crunching in the wet sand and Dory followed with a flick of her bobbed tail, thinking that this was another game. Kaliska halted at the water's edge a way down from where she had been seated, Dory blowing air hard through her nose as she drew up beside her. They exchanged glances; the merman took Kaliska aback, and the birds with their heavy, and obviously precious cargo fascinated Dory.
Kaliska's hand went automatically to her belt. Next to her knife she had an old slingshot, she'd carried it around with her since she made it as a child. Her astonishment could wait, questions could wait, this...person needed help, and she would give it. Stones though... 'Dory!' she said urgently to the mare. She knew the Soquili could understand her, even if she did not know the horse's own language. 'More of these, quick!' she'd found one, a heavy, sea-smoothed rock, and she showed the mare quickly before slotting it into the sling. Understanding flashed in Dory's eyes and she hurried off, muttering the word to herself so that she wouldn’t forget what it was she was searching for. Kaliska looked at the slowly moving Ospreys, eyes narrowed as she prepared to take her shot. She wasn’t going to hit the birds, she'd never kill an animal unless it was necessary, but if she harried them she would hopefully tire them enough to make them drop the shells over the water. She let fly with the stone, picking up the next one she had discovered with her toes in the sand, and called out the mares name. 'Dory.'
Dory twisted her head around, pausing in the act of nosing out a particularly pretty shell. She ambled off back to the shore edge, nosing Kaliska gently and then looked out across the water. Ooh pretty she thought and then the memory of what she had actually gone to do returned and she ambled off again sheepishly.
Kaliska slapped a sand covered hand to her head and searched herself, scrabbling, standing and firing, desperately hoping to stop the birds before they passed over the rocky area that lead to their nesting grounds.
