I'm going to cry if they do put it on a channel like that, because that means it'll be edited to death, and it'll end up being the next InuYasha, where all the kiddies are talking about it with their friends and ruining it for the older fans...

Might not happen because of that killing in Belgium Germany. Somebody claiming to be "Kira" killed a Caucasian male and left a note saying "Watashi wa kira dess". "Dess" of course being the wrong spelling of "Desu". He cut up the guy pretty bad, too. Great. An illiterate murderer on the loose.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard this type of comment, I'd have one heck of an anime/manga collection.

Anime on TV has come a long way. Look at Naruto; it's on Toonami with a PG rating and very minimal edits. Other than 4Kids licenses (and they don't license much in the way of anime at all now), the licensors and stations know you want no edits, and most of the time they'll go for no edits. If they need to edit, it'll be minimal and there will be uncut DVDs. Adult Swim does even less in the way of editing. In fact, for the final episode of Fullmetal Alchemist, they put a second warning saying the the episode was extremely violent and that they would rather show it unedited. If Death Note is shown on Adult Swim, I bet the edits will be very minimal, if it's edited at all.

Regarding the fandom, I'm not too worried. If an anime is shown on mainstream TV (compared to the really high channels), it's typically action-based. Society likes action, and they don't want to think too deeply about whatever they're watching. DN has little action, and is hard to get into if you refuse to think about it. Most of the annoying fans will give up after a few episodes when they decide the show doesn't appeal to them, so we'll be likely to get more decent fans than slash fangirl/Narutard level fans.

And Death Note's fandom is already bad; showing it on TV won't make much of a difference even if we do get some of the awful fans.

And I just need to ask since I hear this so much: what's so great about the older fans? The argument that you've been a fan since [Insert Year/Chapter/Episode Here] and are therefore superior is pointless because, regardless of amount of time spent in the fandom, I will always hold an intelligent debater above a slash fangirl. Even if the slash fangirl has been a fan since DN began running in SJ in Japan, she might be ruining the fandom for me (I read DN roughly a year ago).

While we're on the topic, why not bash the dub, too? All we've heard is a trailer, which can be ignored since Viz said they are using different voice actors, and we've seen a list of voice actors. It's a dub, so it must be awful! rolleyes If you have not heard the dub on the show itself, you cannot complain about the dub. You cannot guarantee how good or bad a dub will be until you have heard it. Some of these voice actors are complete newcomers, some have only had a few roles, and some have been in everything under the sun; you still can't say how good or bad they'll do on this particular dub. If you're going to bash the dub, actually watch the dub and say why you disliked the dub; there are fans who will enjoy it for those same reasons that you hate it. Dubs have also come a long way in ten years; Geneon is my favorite company in terms of dubs, and they did the Cardcaptors dub ten years ago (Cardcaptors is possibly the worst dub ever, due not only to bad voice acting but to cutting around half of the show). If you haven't seen a dub in years, then some of your generalizations about dubs may not apply anymore.

Well, there's my two cents. It turned into a rant partway through typing, though. sweatdrop

We'll have to see how this turns out. There have been times in the past where they decide not to show a single episode for whatever reason (still included in the DVDs, though), and there have been many of these times that the episode is shown much later on. They might take it a bit further and postpone the show for a while. They might remove the show altogether, although I really doubt that that will happen.

On the other hand, though, the murder took place in Germany. Adult Swim might not care since the murder wasn't even on the same continent.

It is sad how one person being unable to distinguish between fiction and reality can ruin things for everyone, though. People like this make the entire fandom look awful.

*smashes head on desk* If you ask me, Adult Swim is only one step above Toonami and 4kids. I know we don't have to worry about them, Death Note's very plotline is too risque (changing the entire story is a bit different than removing some harpie boobs [see Yu-Gi-Oh]) but Adult Swim is hardly better.

Look at what they did to Inuyasha! Big O! If I never see any of those shows again, I'll be ecstatic. The ONLY things Adult Swim had to offer were Cowboy Bebop, Lupin, Shin-Chan and Trigun, and thankfully the Bebop episodes are on rerun. But really, for me, it isn't Adult Swim that's at fault, it's the companies that the animes were sold to. I'm not sure where Inuyasha went, but it's clear that the companies on Adult Swim aren't the greatest.

However, Funimation is the best in anime re-dubbing, if I do say so myself. (Basically, they were NOT responsible for the rapping pirate and terrible Luffy/Sanji voice fiasco, nor the BELIEVE IT Naruto bomb.) After doing Yu Yu Hakusho, Full Metal Alchemist, and all the Dragon Ball series, I think they could handle Death Note. Imagine Chuck Huber as Light or L...

Then, of course, it could be aired on COLORS, Funimation's part-time Dish Network channel, where few things are edited. (They allow 'b***h' and 's**t' to run, as far as I know...not to mention transvestites and naked children running around all over the place.)

BUT it's a moot point, because Death Note's already signed to Adult Swim. I'll watch it, you'd better believe I'll watch it, but the manga will probably be better. MUCH better.

God, everyone one that saids Adult swim is a bad place for anime is wrong, Their are the only ones to who played all FLCL episodes uncensored, and just becaue all you want Deathnote to be an "acult following" dosn't mean that other people want to see it! Shut-up about it, I am sure once anyone sees it they be saying, "Yes, now I can't wait for the next episode!".

Alright, listen- we won't know about teh quality of the dub until we see it, but most times dubs are not of the quality of the subs, be it because of teh voice actors or the way everything is trnaslated. It's true that Adfult Swim isn't as bad as other channels that show aniem. Most of us are basing our opinion on our personel experiences with subbed vs. dubbed anime, meaning there's going to be good reactions and bad reactions.

i know for a fact itsa be on adult swim [as its been said]
I personally cant wait.
I wanna see who the voice actors are, and the quality of the english version
and I finally get to get my DN fix everyday on a nice comfy couch at night witha bowl of good rice or ramen in my hand
Im so excited I cant contain myself [but I try]

Some people are like NOO NOW EVERYONES GUNNA FOLLOW IT AND IT WONT BE AS AWESOME and yadayada
i say that the more people that like death note and understand it and follow it the better. the more people that want to talk to me about it the better. im always looking around for people as into DN as I am to talk to and no one is, so this might be my chance ^_^
and if all it takes is a new group of fans just getting into the series, starting out with it for the first time to make you dislike the series, then i dont think you should ever concider yourself a fan.

thats just my opinion >.<
but people like that piss me off.
i kinda ranted. but im done now.

my point: i cant wait, itll be amazing.

Haha, just saw the commercial for it about five minutes ago.

I'm definitely excited about it, now I'll be able to talk to my friends about it because they'll finally be able to watch it (They can never watch anything online unless I show them when they visit my house, which isn't often since they live so far).

Another great thing about this is it'll give me a good reason to follow the series a second time.

And of course with the arrival of the show means the arrival of Deathnote merchandise!

Viz, not Funimation, has Death Note.

But, the English Bleach dub, which Viz did, wasn't too bad. The voices sucked for some characters, but I don't remember them changing the dialogue drastically or anything.
