Yeah there's a kit! I found it on ebay here. I kinda don't like fan things myself, though I do have some stuff (i.e. plushies, pillows, posters) but I don't obsessidly collect them (mainly cause I don't have the moolah).

I don't collect much either, but hardly anyone where I live knows about Doctor Who. I'm having trouble finding any of the classic series. mad

[quote="MuskratioWell. The Doctor's a 1000+ year old alien guy from this planet called Gallifrey that by the beginning of the new series is long since blown up. He travels around in this spaceship that's called a TARDIS and looks like a 1960's British police box because it's a malfunctioning piece of crap that is also, ironically, a highly advanced space/time travel machine. Anyway, he travels to various worlds and times, occasionally picking up "strays" (who are more often than not young, attractive women) whom he carts around for a while and then dumps off when they become bored/find a higher purpose/get kicked out/die. He likes saving the universe a lot. He can also regenerate, meaning when he dies he doesn't actually die but instead essentially becomes a completely different person. His second incarnation is my favorite. :B The new series starts on his ninth. XD
For more information, visit the wikipedia article on Doctor Who. : D
In the first series of the new Doctor Who episodes, the Doctor says he is 900, not 1000+.

Lirium Icteris I've just recently picked up the series and never watched an episode all the way through (due to my dad's stupid Red Green show and his dislike for anything sci-fi stressed ) *ahem* Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone would be able to fill me in on some of the more complex details and such. there's too much to completely cover, but here's some basic things every whoian should know: Time is wibbily-wobbily. The Doctor regenerates when BBC can't afford using Tennant. Whoian means "Doctor Who fan". Daleks say "exterminate", not "upgrade". (Then they would be Cyber-daleks, and that would be the worst name ever.) The Beatles are gods.(not nessecarily related, unless you believe my theory. click here-> http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=10636637

I know what you mean. I live in the US, and I only have the basic channels (no cable) and dial-up. Its annoying, because I can't watch the new shows. The only channel that even shows the Doctor is PBS, which has been showing Series One for the past year and a half. stare And lately not at all! scream
So, I have advice for a who-fix. 3nodding
One: The Library is your friend. You can rent Doctor Who (alot of the old ones and all of the new ones) DVDs for free- unless you keep them for longer then you are supposed to. (guilty sweatdrop )
Two: Wikipedia. They give full synopses of every episode, all the history, and alot of information about characters and monsters. Its a great way to learn about the Doctor if you are a brand new fan.
Three: Doctor Who fanfiction. I know its dumb, but they are fun to read, and they also help when you desperatly want the Doctor and Rose back together. biggrin
Just my two sense, from one "new" Whovian to another. Also, mention it to your friends, and if they know what you are talking about, they might have DVDs and stuff you can borrow. ninja

PBS has always lagged behind the UK by about two years. I remember back in the '80s when my dad was watching the Sylvester McCoy era stuff and was lamenting about how he had already heard about half of what had happened, to say nothing of seeing the end of the series coming two years before it got here. I also remember the excitement that was the run-up to the 1996 movie that FOX co-produced and promptly ganked (the way FOX does with a lot of things... Firefly anyone?).
I was lucky enough to have a life-long Whovian friend who got his hands on "Rose" when it was leaked to the internet. He insisted that me and a bunch of my friends watch it with him and we were all hooked instantly. So I'm an Eccleston girl (though a huge fan of Tennant, too!), but I find that most US fans seem to have gotten hooked in the Tennant era and watched the Eccleston season as an afterthought.
In any case, back to the original topic...
When I was still just getting into the 'verse, I found that the website called Outpost Gallifrey was a great resource. It has very good, nicely detailed synopsis of every adventure, from William Hartnell through David Tennant and beyond, including books, radio dramas, comics, and most importantly, the lost episodes. And best of all, they're spoiler-free, if one likes to avoid them. It's a resource that is... dare I say it... fantastic!
