"That can't be fulfilling at all," she said harshly to his response. "Hoe beneficial can it be to practice alone all the time? You'll never be able to sharpen your skills that way. One cannot prepare for an orchestra practicing a lot of solos."
Her eyes peered at him intently as she cut directly to the point. She cared very little about Jedi history or how who fought what before when. "Instead of talking, why don't you show me?"

Valin frowned. Not only did she not have a lightsaber, she probably never fought against an opponent who used a 'laser sword' before.
"A lightsaber is hardly a toy. It's very, very dangerous. Lots of super-hot energy on contact with anyting. Great potential for many limbs to go flying in every direction. We had a general rule as a sort of joke at the Academy: 'Aim away from face'."
However, she seemed dead serious about this, "You... you aren't joking about this... are you?"

She lowered herself to look him square in the eyes before answering him. There was a grave intensity etched on her features, even her ears which poked out of the slits of her hat stiffly. "What about me looks like I'm joking?"
She paused a moment, allowing him a chance to answer that question to himself. She then rose and leaned against the bar counter. "I don't care what your little sword can do, nor do I remember calling it a toy. You have your methods and I have mine. If I am to be an underdog so be it."
She left no more room for rebuttal as she popped off of the counter and made her way to the hall across the room, her hips and tail swaying seductively as though maybe the thought of being in such close proximity of a female may entice or encourage his desire to take her up on the offer.

Valin sighed - and yet he got up and followed her.
She was looking for a practice fight. And Valin knew techniques on how to attack with a lightsaber but not severly maim a person.
It had been so long since he had taken up the tool of a Jedi. Actually... he was just wishing it had been. How many laid dead because of his actions.
He had three lightsabers on his belt today: His, his former love's, and the one he had built when he had gone to the Dark Side. The Jedi carried only to remind him on what not to become again.
"I'm giving you a fair warning. I'll do my best to aim away from vital limbs and organs - but the blade is not forgiving should it make contact."

"As unforgiving as water once it enters your lungs I presume?" She expectged nothing less from the way he spoke of this 'lightsaber.' She'd see soon how powerful the weapon was first hand. As she entered the ring and continued to walk to the far side of the ring, that way by the time she stopped, he should be a fair distance away and not have to adjust himself too much.
"Well since you're so concerned..." ...and I'm a bit intimidated... "...I hope you don't mind if I use one of my own tools." Saying this she stuck her hand under her shirt and pulled from beneath it a small object that looked like a vial hanging off of thin, silver link chain. The item didn't seem to be that special, let alone useful in battle, but that was all that she pulled out to show him.

"Hmm," was all Valin said as she commented on water. Well, he hoped that it wouldn't come down to injuries of any sort.
He nodded at her request, "No, I don't mind. Go ahead."
Valin pulled back his dark green cloak and took it off, letting it drop to the floor. It would be foolish to fight with such a burdening cloth.
He held his hand out and his primary saber came to his hand and mumbled, "I hope no one gets too hurt..."

She bowed respectfully to Valin before muttering something indistinctly and placing the object back under her shirt. No sooner has she done this than her shirt began to visibly dampen. As she assumed her fighting stance, her clothes were completely soaked and water was dripping as her feet off of her shirt, pant cuffs, and flooding out f her shoes. The flow didn't show any signs of subsiding either as she awaited his move.

The Jedi Knight gave Red an equally respectful bow of his own. He took notice on how much her clothes were actually soaked in water. Perhaps it was the vial or perhaps it was whatever technique she was able to preform with liquids.
Valin raised up his blade and ignited it with a snap-hiss. The silver blade erupted into the air, producing a distinct hum.
Suddenly, he was launched forward, in a spin with the silver blade twirling around him. He landed directly in front of Red and spun the blade with an upward slash.

Red hopped away from valin quickly as he came upon her with all he had it seemed. Perfect.
As she dodged his blade, the puddle of water that had formed beneath her began to move on its own as it circled Valin's arm and prepared to constrict on his wrist and flash freeze into solid ice.
Even if she succeeded, there wasn't enough water yet to freeze him in place. He'd be able to snap free easily. But maybe he'd realize what she could do and become aware of the fact that water was still being generated. Hopefully she'd be able to take the offensive at some point.

Valin was pretty surprised when the water came and froze his wrist in place. However, he countered quickly by summoning his second blade to his off-hand and igniting its purple blade, quickly slicing the ice and freeing himself. He deactivated the purple blade as quickly as if had been ignited.
He quickly opened himself to the Force - letting it flowing into himself, felling the ebb and flow of life all around him.
The Jedi gathered the Force and launched it at Red in the form of an image. Even her strong will would have trouble telling the image of Valin jumping to his left and coming in for a strike and from the real Valin jumping to this right and coming in for a strike.

Illusions. Was this the best the Force could do? To avoid an attack from whichever enemy was the real one, Red jumped forward into the air, flipping out of harm's way as a puddle of water leaked on either side of her and a one inch think shell of ice replaced her position. That way, Valin would hopefully slip, crash into the bust of her, and then she'd be able to trap him as the ice encased his body and held him fast to the ground.

Bubbling as if liquid several of the shadows in the room seemed to flow towards on another into a large abyss like puddle. Rise out of the dark mass stood the figure of a tall man clad in a blood red cloak. With a light gesture with both hands he proceeded to throw aside his cowl and swing it open, his face still half shrouded with a heavy black scarf. Perched atop his head instead of normal ears of human being lay two snowy white foxes ears. His dull hued eyes gazed upon the battle underway with a look of amusement. As he moved to get a better vantage, a long snow white foxes tail danced behind him with his movements. Finding a spot he settled down in silence watching from afar.

He could feel her reaction via the Force and knew now that Force illusions were no match for her.
As Valin approached the ice, he had already grabbed another lightsaber and tossed it. The red blade ignited in air. It made contact with the ice and seemed to have a mind of its own as it cut apart enough of the ice so Valin didn't slam face first into it. Afterwards, it fell to the ground.
He landed on the ground and returned his blade with a Force pull into his belt.
The Jedi Knight attempted a new trick. There was an older technique called Malacia that could disrupt the natural balance of the head and ears to bring off balacne. He launched forward as he used the technique to try and mess with Red's head and balance.

Red could feel it. The moment her head was invaded by an outside source. That b*****d! She prepared to strike back, but found that standing was a bit differently. Suddenly she felt her lack of balance as well. Thankfully her tail was more than a unique mark on her body. She was still able to stand. She planted herself as she formed a water barrier from what she could, which had amounted to being six feet tall, four feet wide, and three feet thick before it froze immediately in front of her. She wasn't paying attention, so there might have been a chance that she accidentally froze him in place.
Anyway.
Wasting no time, she used her finger to draw two unique characters on her side of the barrier, which began to illuminate with a blinding blue light as though invoked by some sort of magic. This would hopefully prove useful to a blade of extreme heat. The ice was now as dense as steel and wouldn't melt until her spell subsided. At least it might give her some time to regain her balance.
