She'd had reason to worry, as it turned out--she didn't pass. In tears, she took her quiz back home to her parents. While Guereda rubbed her shoulders soothingly, her mother sat down next to her and walked her through the questions she didn't get right. More confident in herself, she came back to school the next day to try again in a better mood.

But things still weren't going right--all of the answers fled from her head as she took the quiz, and sure enough, she had gotten all of the same answers wrong. She groaned with despair.
This evening, both of her parents joined in on the tutoring, Mesektet's tail wrapped around her and Guereda giving her a cup of hot chocolate. Her confidence was nonetheless not as high the third day when she took the quiz yet again.

She did even worse the third time, and she wasn't even sure she wanted to go home this time. She wanted to run away from home. But she couldn't--Da was there when school ended to pick her up, and she couldn't run away from Da. She was quiet, though, and refused to talk about the quiz. She didn't want to think about it any more. One more time...maybe the fourth time would work...maybe.
The next day she took the quiz a fourth time. When the paper came back, she was trembling with fear. The fear oozed out of her when she saw the grade--she'd passed. She smiled and began to cry--this time, with relief.

A quiz seemed awfully scary to Lillian. Sure, Talya had survived quizzes before, but Talya was a couple years older than Lillian and Evelyn. Lilli looked over at her very nervous friend, wondering if she would be okay. Evey tended to be more nervous in these situations. Lilli, for her part, hoped she did well, but she tried not to stress about it.
When they got their quizzes back, Lilli smiled at her grade. She turned to Evey to show her, then stopped. Evey was looking miserable--obviously, she ahd not passed. Lilli fell silent. She'd tell Evey later--when her friend had passed. She didn't want to make the Demon feel bad.

Wait, they were going to have a quiz?! Ved didn't care how long it was, it sounded really scary! He bit his lip, but put his head down to the quiz, tail twitching nervously. What if he failed? He wouldn't fail. But what if he did? Oh Nine, oh Nine, oh Nine...
Of course, he failed. He whimpered and banged his head on the desk. No! How could he? He thought his memory was good--he had, he'd thought it was excellent, but it had failed him! How could he get good grades like this?

Luckily, students who had, um, failed the test got an extra chance. He got to redo the quiz! Thank goodness. He wasn't the only one who got to redo it, thankfully. That was an, um, minor miracle. He wished he'd known that beforehand--he could've had an opportunity to study last night instead of writing sad songs about how much it hurt to fail a quiz. And this was his first quiz, too... Well, now it's my second, he said to himself. And I'm gonna do better this time!
And he did! Not a lot better, but this time his grade was passing. With relief, he leaned back in his chair and stretched out. Thank the Nine all of that was over with...

Whoa, a quiz? But Sound Lee hadn't been here long enough to learn enough for a quiz. Oh well--if their teacher said they'd have a quiz, then they'd have a quiz. He shrugged and got to work. He did surprisingly well, considering he'd only moved north recently. Admittedly, his mind had mostly been on that awesome beach adventure in science--when could they go back, he wondered?--so he didn't do as well as he maybe could have. Oh well--he'd gotten a good grade, and that was all Sound Lee cared about. He hummed a happy tune to himself and went back to drawing sand dollars on his notebook.

Seeing as he was rather bad a verbal accounts the baphomet had chosen instead to make a written entry for the assignment. I chose to write about my own peoples culture. Researching it more opened up an interesting perspective, learning about my own culture through the eyes of another. The way other races see the baphomet traditions of reciprocity and of doing things for those you care about. How it is seen as being a rather strict structured tradition rather than something that should be done without thought.
Even though I am not the most social of my kind I still see the merit of treating others the way you wish to be treated, and how that might offend someone if they have gone out of their way only for the other not to reciprocate the gesture in the slightest. That is, it is not that one should do something because they are getting something in return, but simply polite to keep others feelings in mind when they have done something for you.
Seeing how others view this custom has given me a lot to think about, though I am still convinced going about things that way he a good way to do things. I see it is not the only way.

Chicory scrunched her nose at the question, it was weird and she wasn’t quite sure how she should answer it. “I wouldn’t say that my family has much in the way of any unique customs, but my siblings and I have wanted to start something. We collect flowers for every place we visit then we’ll exchange them with friends and family, mostly family. With this, we’re mixing some imp and fey traditions and we hope that it will end up being a custom that we can past down.”
Her wings flittered nervously as she presented, curling her tail around herself. “I, um, also heard that Kirins will have self-care days, I don’t know any personally, but I would like to think that they would spend time with each other to bond.” She nervously smiled, “I like to think of group hair brushing cause all them have such beautiful hair.” With that, her ears drooped, “I’m sorry. That isn’t creepy, right?”

Annabelle’s tail twitched as she thought of her reply. Well, with more and more Bakeneko’s coming to the academy, she didn’t really think that she should share one of those, but maybe she could think of one that was more unique. “One custom that varies between different places is what time you should arrive to an event.”
She gave a quick nod of encouragement to herself as she continued, “Some people prefer you to come early while others find it offensive. Like, in my family, we try to be 15 minutes early or so, but this one girl I met, she’s really nice, but her family prefers that you arrive right on time ‘cause it seems like you’re an eager beaver if you’re too early. It’s always best to ask the host if you’re not sure what is proper eti… etiquette, or at least that’s what my mama told me.” With that, she sat down, contented.

Nyx paid rapt attention while the others presented. He'd always loved learning about other people, and particularly the races that he had yet to meet. It was interesting to know that aside from their physical differences, the different races were so unique culturally as well. When it came time for his turn, the Kirin stood up and brushed his hands over his sweater anxiously. He'd never been great at presenting but he wanted to try.
"U-Um, I know that we- Kirins, we um... We don't really believe in the Nine. We have our own gods..." He hesitated, wondering what kind of response that would get. Surely it was very strange, and he didn't want to be ridiculed. he quickly amended his statement. "But- but that's just what I've heard. I don't really know what to- what to believe." Glancing at the teacher to see if he'd done well, Nyx squeezed the ends of his sleeves in his hands.

Miela was eager to stand up and flashed a smile when it was her turn. She'd met a Fey a few days ago and had been extremely interested in the Daydream race, so she'd gone to the library and asked her caretakers as often as she could.
"Fey dance for people they like! It's always a really special dance they made themselves, too!" She grinned even wider. "I think that's so cute! And I hear if you dance with them, that means you like them back." Her wings spread wide and fluttered before tucking against her back again. She'd never really thought of a "courtship dance" as they called it, but it sounded fun! "I'm pretty sure we just dance when we want to, not really for a purpose. But I think it sounds really fun to dance to show someone you like them. And especially if you made it just for them!"

Wednesday lived at the academy. She didn't have a home to go back to. How was she expected to know what her own personal customs were? Of course, any teacher would say that was no excuse to know your own culture. The academy specifically focused on teaching the kids all about the different races to try and help everyone get along better. Now, which of her races to pick ... maybe instead of picking one she practiced, maybe one she was most likely to or the most interested in would be a good choice. "Well, I'm a hybrid." she stated quite obviously. "So I have a mash of things I can choose from. I guess I really like the old-fashioned fallen tradition of giving someone you want to court one of your feathers. I'll probably do that some day. Seems kinda romantic. Some people probably think it's a little creepy -- randomly plucking feathers or waiting for them to fall out before giving them to someone. I kinda like it, tho. It's personal."
