Matt was actually surprised that Teddy was able to find clothes that not only fit him, but actually looked really cool too. That was the thing about the world of Pokemon though, you always seemed to find the item you needed right when you needed it. Matt walked out of the Pokemon Center, followed by Hayes, who mentioned hearing something about a giveaway at the PokeMart. The group pretty much had an infinite amount of Pokeballs and Potions at their disposal, but it wouldn't hurt to check anyway. "Really? Let's go check it out!" Matt said, curious as to what this giveaway was all about. It didn't take long to find the PokeMart, and as soon as the trio entered the store they were greeted by the storekeep. "Good afternoon fellas, welcome to the Viridian City Pokemart!" He said behind the counter. The man looked at them for a moment and noticed their Pokeballs. "Do you three happen to be Pokemon Trainers?" He asked. "Yeah." Replied Matt, looking at Teddy and Hayes for a moment. The man clapped his hands together and waved the three over. "Then it's you're lucky day. We're giving away free Honey to every Trainer that visits today. You can use on trees in Viridian Forest to attract uncommon Pokemon!" He explained, handing each of them a jar of honey. Almost immediately after the Honey was placed in Matt's hand, his second Pokeball opened and Mudkip materialized onto his shoulder and started climbing down his arm towards the Honey. Matt held the Honey up above him with his left arm and tried to grab Mudkip with his right. "M-Mudkip, no! This is for wild Pokemon." He said, trying to simultaneously reason and wrestle with Mudkip and its bottomless appetite.

Teddy looked down at his towel knapsack as Matt mentioned that he could do with a bag. The idea did sound like the logical thing to do, Teddy had visions of himself climbing Mount Silver in Johto, all of his friends by his side, both human and Pokemon. His mighty towel knapsack swung over his shoulder. He soon snapped out of it "That's probably the right decision to make" Teddy decided on, almost solemnly. With that, he followed his two companions to the PokeMart. When they arrived, they were greeted with a jar of honey each thanks to a special offer they were holding. Teddy was relieved to see that Viridian did not share PokeMart attendants with Johto. Teddy threw it into his towel knapsack only to be spoken to by one of the attendants."It looks like you're struggling on hard times mate" he said, motioning to Teddy's towel knapsack. "Oh this? Yeah. Found myself in a bit of a pinch. Swam here from Johto in nothing but my trunks with no Pokemon. Even these clothes are borrowed from the Pokemon Centre here." Teddy said with a laugh, motioning to his clothes. The attendant gasped and grasped Teddy's shoulder."Don't worry about it my friend. The PokeMart is always there to help a trainer in need"he said, he disappeared for a second behind the counter and returned with a backpack."It's on the house."he said forcing the bag into Teddy's hands. "I can't. You don't need to do this" trying to give it back to the man. "I can find a way to pay""Come back some time and put in some shifts if you still feel sore about it later"he said with a laugh. Teddy nodded "Without a doubt I will return!" Teddy declared, depositing his towel knapsack into his new backpack.

It didn't take long for the three of them to find the PokéMart after they'd left the PokéCenter, and as soon as they walked inside it they were greeted by an enthusiastic attendant. After asking if they were trainers and getting an answer, he offered them all a jar of Honey and told them what they could use it for... aside from eating it, anyway, as Matt's Mudkip tried to do. Is using a jar of honey on a tree a good idea, in a forest that's known for Bug-types...? Hayes wondered, but didn't object to the idea as he found a place for it in his bag; the attendant having moved on to finding a bag for Teddy while he put the Honey away and Matt struggled to keep it from his Pokémon. "I think we're all good, now." He said after they'd all gotten their honey, and Teddy his bag, and had made their way out of the PokéMart. "We could probably head onto Route 2 if there's nothing else we wanted, or needed, to do here?" Hayes added, and would begin making his way out of the city along with the two of them if they agreed; it was still early in the day, so it'd be a good time to try and make it to the upcoming forest and hopefully out of it before it got any darker... he had heard it was easy to get turned around in it, and he imagined it wouldn't help if they couldn't see in there.
Bulbasaur Lv: 6 HP: 60/60 EXP:4/16 Ability: Overgrow (When HP is below 1/3rd its maximum, power of Grass-type moves is increased by 50%) Item: Growl (Lower target's Attack one stage) Tackle (50)

After they'd left the city and were on Route 2, Hayes tried to figure out how long it'd take them to reach the upcoming forest and if they'd manage to get through it before it started to get dark. It wasn't too far, so he expected they'd make it in good time; but he wasn't familiar with Viridian Forest, so it'd probably take them a bit of time to get through it unless Matt had a better idea of the place. He started to feel like he was being watched as they walked along the path, however; that feeling you had and couldn't explain every now and then, and it persisted until he finally looked around... a wise decision, apparently, as he spotted a Nidoran ♂ looking at him from the tall grass off to the side of the path.
Is that...? He thought, trailing off in his mind as he stared at the Pokémon; maybe they weren't as uncommon as he'd thought, given that it was the second one he'd seen in as many hours. A moment passed before Hayes realized it didn't appear to be in a good mood and had started to move out of the grass, so he grabbed Bulbasaur's Pokéball from his side and tossed it in the space between them, releasing it in front of the wild Pokémon. As soon as Bulbasaur appeared, it was like a switch had flicked on in Nidoran; it took a deep breath and seemed to focus solely on it, as if it was preparing itself for an attack. "Come on, Bulbasaur; you know what to do!" Hayes shouted, and Bulbasaur ran over to the Nidoran as it started to move again; clearing the distance in no time at all and crashing into it, but it didn't go as smoothly as it had in the last battle. Nidoran held its ground and barely budged, appearing no worse for wear as it glared at Bulbasaur, who seemed to take a few steps back instinctively after it did. Hayes was impressed, it was the only Pokémon he'd encountered so far that'd been able to withstand Bulbasaur's initial charge, not to mention intimidate it. "Don't worry about it, one more time! Tackle!" He instructed, and Bulbasaur listened despite the Nidoran's intimidating presence; charging forward once more and knocking Nidoran into the grass it had come from once it connected. "That's the way!" Hayes shouted, but he didn't move. It'd been a tough opponent, and he wanted to be sure it wasn't about to charge out of the grass in retaliation... after a short time had passed, however, he knew it wouldn't be.
Bulbasaur seemed to agree, as after a minute or so it turned around and walked over to Hayes, appearing as pleased with itself as he'd seen it; for good reason, of course. I wonder if I could find it in the grass... Hayes thought as he crouched down and scratched behind Bulbasaur's ear, looking into the tall grass as he did; he'd always been a fan of Nidoran, and that one hadn't been a pushover.

Matt was able to hold down Mudkip long enough to stick the Honey in his bag. Once he was able to secure his new item, he lifted Mudkip up over his head with both hands and laugh. "You little glutton." Matt said teasingly before tucking Mudkip under his arm. It didn't take long for the group to get everything they needed and leave the PokeMart. Hayes suggested they head to Route 2 and Matt agreed, still carrying Mudkip under his arm like a small bag. Route 2 led to Viridian Forest, which was only thing separating them from Pewter City. While Matt and the group were heading north through Route 2, Matt had an idea that he felt needed mentioning. "Oh, I was thinking. We're bound to run into tons of wild Pokemon while we're traveling together. If I encounter any Pokemon you guys like just let me know and I'll try to catch it for you." He explained, thinking it was a pretty good idea and didn't mind helping his friends catch Pokemon. Matt could see the building that led to the Forest just up ahead and began to pick up the pace a bit when suddenly a wild Ponyta jumped out of the tall grass ahead of him, blocking his path. He never expected wild Pokemon to be so aggressive, but he figured that's why people always warned others about entering tall grass without their own Pokemon. Regardless, Ponyta had to be a pretty rare encounter for this area, and it looked pretty strong too. He wanted to level up Bulbasaur more, but he wasn't about to send Bulbasaur against such a type disadvantage. Instead he loosened his arm and let Mudkip leap forward. "Let's do this, Mudkip!" Matt said as Mudkip happily hopped around on the ground in front of him. "Muuud~ kip!" Like the last fight, Ponyta had the first move, and crashed into Mudkip with a Tackle attack, dealing serious damage. "Crap! Mudkip, use Mud-Slap to lower its accuracy!" Matt called out, worried another attack like that would cause Mudkip to faint. Mudkip recovered and whipped its tail along the ground, flinging mud at the Ponyta. The attack connected, dealing super-effective damage and lowering the Ponyta's accuracy. In return the Ponyta charged and whipped its fire tail at Mudkip, using Tail Whip to drop Mudkip's Defense. "Mudkip, Tackle!" Matt called out as soon as Ponyta's Tail Whip landed. Before Ponyta even had a chance to fully turn around Mudkip launched into the air and crashed into its side using Tackle. The Ponyta was knock off its feet and back into the tall grass where it lay fainted. Mudkip hopped back over to Matt. "Kip!" It cheered as Matt rubbed its head and pulled a Potion out of his bag to heal the damage. "There you go, Mudkip. Good fight." He said, giving Mudkip a final pat before returning him to his ball and standing back up. "Alright! Onward to Viridian Forest!"

The decision to move onto Route 2 was Hayes idea. It hadn't really felt they had the time to explore Viridian City for what it was worth, but then he imagined it would not be the last chance he got. It felt good being able to wander freely whilst also covered. Growing up by the beach meant that Teddy hardly felt embarrassed to wander around partially clothed, but it was mainly the long grass and travelling that was bothering him. So now to actually have shoes was a god send for him. The three of them wandered towards Route 2. Matt bringing up the idea that if any of them found a Pokemon the others were looking for, they'd catch it on their behalf. It was a good system. "Sounds like a great idea. The more the merrier when it comes to my team"
Teddy was so excited, considering his own options for his team the two Pokemon crossing their path went under his radar. Matt and Hayes both took control of their battles. A Nidoran much like the one Matt had fought prior was Hayes opponent, whilst Matt fought a majestic Ponyta. Teddy watched them get into their battles and commenced cheering. It didn't take long for them to finish their matches, they both worked so well with their Pokemon, he knew he made the right decision joining them. It got Teddy's blood pumping to see a good match. He almost felt left out when he heard something rushing up behind him.
A firm tackle was delivered to Teddy sending him flying head over heels. Scratching his head as he got up to find his attacker. It was a rather angry looking Rattata. It looked familiar somehow and then a light bulb blinked in Teddy's mind. "You're that Rattata I met on Route 1 aren't you? Come back for more?!" Teddy knew he was right, he had a sixth sense about these things. "Well I'm not going to let you play with Bulbasaur again, so how about I debut my good friend Wani-Wani?!" he said, taking one of his Pokeballs from his belt and throwing it in the air, the ball fell back into his hand as the Pokemon was released. What was peculiar was that the Pokemon did not land in front of anywhere near Teddy's line of sight. Then he felt a heavy weight jump onto his head. He was here.
"Toto-bwakle!" it said, announcing itself atop Teddy's head. "I know buddy, I didn't expect we would be in this situation either" Teddy informed his Pokemon. Wani-Wani was Teddy's first Pokemon. A gift from his parents when he was fifteen. His parents had their own Pokemon and often shared them with Teddy, but Wani-Wani was purely Teddys. He had never really fought using Wani-Wani, they were more partners in crime, they would often go swimming and exploring and generally causing a ruckus. So this was new territory for them both. "Okay Wani. First battle time." Teddy said, pointing his finger at the Rattata. Wani-Wani responded by running down his arm and flipping into battle.
The tension was broken as a wave of energy started to reverberate through the air, all centred around the Rattata. Teddy and Totodile mimicked each other in their confused body movements, locking eyes and shrugging. "Well I guess we are making the first move buddy. Wani-Wani! Scratch Attack!" he declared. "Totobwaile!"Wani-Wani cried out, leaping into action and letting loose his claws on the Rattata who did nothing but stand it's ground. Wary of what would happen next, Wani-Wani sprung backwards. "I know how you feel buddy. Something is off. I think it's focusing it's energy. We need to finish this as soon as we can" giving a thumbs up to Wani-Wani, they felt another surge of energy from Rattata. "Soon rather than later. Another scratch should do it!" Teddy shouted. Wani-Wani sprang into action, running towards the Rattata at full pelt, then with another energetic flip, let loose a flurry of scratches.
Wani-Wani bounced back to see the aftermath of his attack. The Rattata stood strong, it was breathing heavily and was scratched beyond belief, Teddy was about to call out another attack, when he saw the Rattata begin the move, they were awestruck as it moved a foot forward and run in the opposite direction, back into the grass. Teddy and Wani-Wani locked eyes once again before cheering. Wani-Wani jumping into Teddy's arms. "We did it buddy! Our first proper fight!" Teddy said "You deserve a good rest and I'll be seeing you again soon" Totodile bwaked it's approval as it was absorbed back into it's Pokeball.
Teddy looked over to see the status of his friends. Matt had disappeared into Viridian Forest whilst it seemed Hayes had another Pokemon encounter. "Go on Hayes! You can do it man!" he cheered.

After he'd finished Nidoran ♂ and while he was considering going into the grass in search of it, Hayes looked over at Matt who'd apparently wrapped up his own battle; sending a Pokémon into the tall grass as well, although he'd looked over too late to see what Pokémon it had been. It was a good idea he'd had earlier, the three of them working together to catch a Pokémon any of them wanted if they happened across one. Hayes was sure it'd happen sooner or later if they were to be travelling together, after all. Not long after they'd finished their battles, a familiar Rattata appeared and attacked Teddy, who'd been cheering for them as they battled. Hayes was about to return the favor and call out some encouragement until he heard Bulbasaur growl, and he looked down at it to see it staring at something in the direction of where they'd sent Nidoran ♂ into the grass... and it was Nidoran ♀, stepping out of the tall grass and glaring at them.
"What are the odds...?" Hayes asked himself, shaking his head as he gave Bulbasaur a pat on the bulb and nodded at it after it'd looked up at him. "I guess it doesn't matter." He said, and motioned with his chin in the direction of the Pokémon approaching them. "I hope you're not getting sick of hearing this... use Tackle!" He instructed, and Bulbasaur ran ahead to meet Nidoran as Teddy's cheering had started again. He must've finished already. Hayes realized, and it seemed to be the case for him as well as he watched Bulbasaur send Nidoran into the tall grass without any trouble, at least compared to the last battle. It trotted over to him again as soon as the wild Pokémon had been knocked into the grass, looking even prouder, and he couldn't blame it after those battles; although it wasn't all good, as a rustling in the grass made him feel like he'd missed the opportunity to catch the pair of Pokémon.
"It looks like you didn't have any trouble, then." Hayes said after a moment, standing up and looking over at Teddy after he'd congratulated Bulbasaur and returned it to its Pokeball. It didn't look like Matt was still around, so Hayes assumed that he'd gone on ahead after his battle. "...should probably hurry and catch up with Matt, now that we're all done. I doubt Viridian Forest is somewhere we should lose track of each other in." He added, and would be on his way once Teddy agreed.
"But I didn't know you had a Totodile..."

It wasn't long before they made it to Viridian City. However, Beth was charging along forward, excited to be traveling. There was so many new things! Unfortunately for her, she ran into a Spearow that didn't seem very friendly. "B-beth!" Gavyn exclaimed, worried as the bird leered at his starter. She tilted her head at the bird. "Use tackle!" he ordered, worried that the bird might try to hurt her if she didn't do something soon. The grass turtle surged forward and slammed her head into the Spearow, knocking it out. Gavyn let out a sigh of relief, but went to check on Elizabeth anyways. Luckily, she was not hurt at all. "Don't rush forward like that without me again... please..." he told his starter gently. She seemed to understand that she had caused her trainer to worry, and nuzzled her head against him apologetically. "Alright... Thank you, Beth. Since you are okay... Maybe you'd like to battle some more?" he stood up, looking down to his pokemon as he questioned her. "Turrrrrt!" she trilled excitedly.

Now that Beth was walking alongside Gavyn, he was more relaxed. At least he knew how the whole training thing went. It wasn't long before a wild ponyta approached. "Alright Beth. We can do this. Get in a tackle." he told her as she bounded forward. Unfortunately, the horse moved first, ramming it's head into the turtwig. Beth was knocked back pretty hard, but struggled back to her feet before giving out a cry, charging in and taking down the fire type with another tackle attack. Gavyn had been concerned as Beth was attacked, and as soon as it was over, he rushed to her aid. "Her health is low. Why don't we try out one of those potions?" Merlin commented. Gavyn took out a potion, and while trying to open it as if it was a bottle, discovered it was actually some kind of spray as it spritzed a bit. With that figured out, he applied the potion to Beth, and she hopped about, ready for more battles.

I don't even know how it works, so i don't know where to even begin..." Gavyn replied sheepishly.

Soon, Beth took down another Spearow, trumpeting about in her success. Meanwhile, Gavyn was trying to figure out how his pokedex worked. Unfortunately, it took him an incredibly long time to figure out that it can open, but then felt overwhelmed by all the buttons. "Er... Merlin... I can't figure this out..." Gavyn commented, brows furrowed. The Clefairy took the device from his trainer, trying to figure it out on his own, despite having about as much experience as his trainer with such things. "I'll see if i can figure it out, Gavy. We should get moving towards the next town. I heard that the gym in this one is too strong for new trainers." Merlin told his trainer. "R-really? Huh... I guess we go on to the forest, then." Gavyn commented. Beth seemed to overhear, and excitedly rejoined her trainer as they went to the next area.

It didn't take long before Hayes stepped off of Route 2 and into Viridian City, although he had been careful to avoid any wild Pokemon along the way; Bulbasaur needed a break, and he didn't know where Rotom was... so he didn't have much of a team at the moment. Luckily, he knew where the PokeCenter was and headed toward it. The benefit of backtracking, he supposed; you already know where to go. He didn't hope to make a habit out of it, though. After a break he'd go back out into the forest and keep on looking for the Pokedex, hopefully find it, and be able to meet up with his travelling companions outside of the forest... if he could accomplish all of that before the day was done, that'd be best.
I don't know how likely that is, though... Hayes sighed, knowing he'd be lucky if he could find it at all if he had dropped it at night. Once the PokeCenter had come into view, Hayes slowed a step and started wondering if he'd stay long after they'd looked at Bulbasaur. It was still early, and although he needed to find the Pokedex it had been a long night... as he considered his options, a noise caught his attention. He stopped and looked around, unsure of where it came from until it happened again; it had come from a small... pond, he supposed, near the PokeCenter. Hayes still didn't know what the sound had been, however, so he turned and headed over to the edge of the water and looked in... and in the water was a pair of Staryu! An unexpected sighting, for sure, as he never would've expected to see one (or two) so far inland.

After a moment of admiring the Pokemon, he heard the noise again; it had been coming from one of them, and it's core flashed every time it made the sound. It took a second before he realized it didn't look in the best of shape... at least, as far as he could tell. Hayes slid his bag off his shoulder after he'd realized that and laid it down, and after another second to decide what to do, he crouched down and reached over the edge before running a hand over the surface of the water in an attempt to catch their attention. It worked, thankfully, and the two Pokemon appeared to stop in response to it; the injured one dipped a bit into the water, but otherwise they were as still as one could expect to be in water.
"It's alright, over here..." He murmured, running the hand across the surface of the water again, but this time so it came toward him at the end. He repeated this a couple different times, each time only whispering a few words and running a hand over the surface afterwards, and eventually the two Pokemon drifted over to him; oddly enough, the injured one had decided first, and the other one followed after it. "That's good, a bit closer..." Hayes said, keeping it up until they'd reached the edge of the water. As slowly as he could, he reached into the bag he'd put down and pulled out a potion, administering it to the injured Pokemon after it had gotten close, its acquaintance a short distance away.
"...And you're good, I think!" Hayes said after he'd finished, letting go of the Staryu and putting the empty Potion in his bag. It already looked in higher spirits, and the core had stopped flashing every so often. "I'll check back after I drop into the PokeCenter, alright?" He asked it, but it had already gone to relish in it's newfound health as it dipped into the water and raced around the other one, which appeared pleased to have it back at full health. Hayes smiled at the sight and watched it for a moment before he turned around and closed the bag, pulling a strap back over his shoulder before he stood back up and headed over to the PokeCenter; his original destination, before he'd stopped to help out.

"Oh, Nurse Joy!" He called out as he walked into the PokeCenter, spotting her right away. She looked up at the sound of her name and over in his direction, a bright smile on her face as he walked toward her. "I remember you from the other day, back already?"Joy asked, a smile still on her face as she looked him over, wondering what he needed from her. "Yeah, aha... I ended up losing something in the forest, and I backtracked trying to find it. But-" He paused, reaching to his side and unclipping one of the Pokeballs on it. "I figured I'd get this one looked at and take a breather." Hayes explained, placing Bulbasaur's ball on the counter in front of her. If he had Rotom on hand it probably could've used a look at too, but he hadn't seen it since earlier... and it was a tough one, so he was sure it'd be fine. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! You were with that boy from Johto, right? I don't think you all have the best of luck."She commented, and Hayes found himself agreeing, even though Matt didn't seem as unlucky as himself or Teddy... yet. After she'd said her part, Nurse Joy picked up the Pokeball and headed off towards the back with it and Hayes went and found a seat in the PokeCenter. It wouldn't take too long, he expected, so it was a good time to sit down.
It took no time at all before Joy had returned to the counter, although it didn't look like she had Bulbasaur. All the same, she looked around for him and smiled when she saw him; a sign to head on up, he assumed.
"It'll still be a while until your Pokemon is ready, but you mentioned you lost something in the forest, right? I thought about it, and we did have someone drop off a Pokedex they'd found around here..."Nurse Joy explained. "That's... I... Yeah!" Hayes said, stumbling through the words as he looked at her. "I couldn't find it earlier, and I thought I'd lost it in the forest!" He elaborated, completely caught off guard by the news. She flashed a brighter smile before responding."That's great! I'll have a look around for it in the back and bring it out as soon as I can."After he'd thanked her (a number of times), she went to the back of the PokeCenter again and Hayes sat back down at the seat he'd found and waited. If it was actually his Pokedex, and he couldn't imagine it being anyone else's, it was a stroke of good fortune to have it found by someone already; and even dropped off at the PokeCenter.
. . .
"Ah, thank you so much!" Hayes said after he'd spotted her approaching the counter again, a Pokeball and Pokedex in hand.
"It's no trouble."She assured him, smiling as he approached. It had taken a while, but she handed him both of the items after they'd talked for a bit, mostly to check if it was indeed the Pokedex he'd dropped, but thankfully it turned out to be. Nurse Joy seemed glad she'd been able to help, although he supposed he'd never met an unhappy one. "Still... it's saved me a day of looking in the forest, and it needed a break a lot more than I did." He said, clipping the Pokeball to his side and sliding the Pokedex into a back pocket."Then I guess you're welcome!"She said, deciding to accept the sentiment after all. Hayes smiled, and after exchanging a few more pleasantries, he left the PokeCenter.

After he'd left the PokeCenter he took a moment to stop and look up, glad to see it hadn't taken all day; it meant he still had enough time to make it back to the forest. It took a while, but I'm glad... a nice sit down is what I needed. He thought to himself as he walked, intending to head back onto Route 2 and out into the Forest after a time, but as he noticed the pond he remembered he still had an arrangement to keep before he left... checking in on a couple of Pokemon.
"And how are my favorite two Star..yu..?" Hayes started before he'd even made it over to the water's edge and looked in, but he hadn't expected what he saw once he did. "Staryu, and... Square...yu?" He barely managed to get the words out of his mouth, dumbfounded at the sight in the water. Instead of two Staryu, in the water was one Staryu and... something that looked an awful lot like one, but square. The two of them rotated in the water after they heard his voice, although he didn't know if it was in order to see him or just their reaction... or some other reason entirely. "I don't-" He started again, but couldn't find the words as the two Pokemon approached. "I mean... what?" Hayes asked, crouching down in order to see better... but it still looked like a square and a star. Staring at them, Hayes stopped and brought a hand up to massage the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger, hoping it'd clear everything up by the next time he looked at them, but it had gotten worse; when he did decide to look at the Pokemon again, it wasn't even in the shape of a square. It had changed again.
A circle? He thought, falling out of the crouched position and onto the ground. He didn't know what to think, as he watched it swim around the regular Staryu; it was essentially just the core, now. After a few seconds of it circling it, Staryu appeared to get fed up by it's antics and swam into it's path, halting the impossible Pokémon's swimming after it swam into it. It was only after that that anything started to make sense, as it changed course and headed over to the water's edge and into the side of the pond, and then it transformed again... not into any impossible variant of a Staryu, however, but a small blob. Oh... that's... actually a relief. He thought as he watched it pull itself out of the pond and onto land.
"A Ditto, huh? I wouldn't have guessed..." Hayes said, looking at the Pokemon; it looked a bit upset about something... maybe it didn't like that the other Staryu had interrupted it. I guess there was only one Staryu, though. He thought, correcting himself as he ran a hand through the back of his hair; it was all a bit confusing. As Hayes was thinking, the Ditto made its way over to him and stopped once it was beside him. It definitely felt like it was sulking, he thought. "Aha, don't be like that." Hayes said, looking down at it and holding back a chuckle at its expense. It looked up at him after he'd said it, and then over toward the pond after a few seconds. "It's all right, go on." He urged it, and the Ditto looked back at him once more before it headed over to the pond, stopping at the edge and looking down at the Water-type still in it. After a minute or so, Ditto transformed into a Staryu again and dropped back into the water.
I guess they worked it out. He thought as he watched the two Pokemon swim underneath the surface of the water.
"Alright, you two." Hayes said, loud enough that he imagined they'd still be able to hear. "I need to get going, but I hope I'll see you around... although I don't know when I'll be back, I suppose." He explained, putting both hands on the ground and helping himself up off it as he kept an eye on the Pokemon in the water; they had stopped after he'd started talking. "All the same... keep out of trouble." Hayes advised them, walking over to the water's edge and running a hand across it a final time; the two of them were directly under where he did, having approached after he'd stood up. It wasn't easy to tell how they felt, but he thought they'd gotten along and he did hope to see them again.
After he'd finished the farewell, he'd turned around and headed in the opposite direction. As he walked around the city, he came across the same attendant they'd all met at the PokeMart the other day, who'd been interested in knowing if the honey worked. A reluctant Hayes told him it had been excellent, and he'd been so happy about the answer he offered him another jar of the stuff, and even offered to take back the empty one that he still had. It didn't take long after that that he'd found himself heading out of the city, but before he crossed over onto Route 2 the sound of movement from behind caught his attention and he turned around... only to see a Ditto and Staryu. It almost had him choked up.
A touching reunion occurred before the three of them headed out on the Route and left for the forest.
