And as he reached out a hand to rest along the side of her cheek, she stepped back, grabbing his wrist to stop him from touching her if she had to.
"You can go wherever the hell you want," Owle growled. "I don't know what you were doing...I don't know where the hell you were...but you didn't start anything. You walked out of the Firebrand, and abandoned me when I needed you most. So do whatever the hell you like."
She couldn't take this. He sounded so sincere, he looked so beat up...she couldn't let him just let him sweet talk his way back into this. He hadn't been there for her. He had abandoned her. And he was acting like some kind of homecoming hero...
She looked away from him.
"It doesn't matter now, anyway..." The words were on her lips, but she didn't know if she dared speak them. But nor could she completely hold them inside. The thought drifted to him, so faint it might have been his imagination. I'm pregnant...

He turned his head to the side, more than a little put off, as he pulled his wrist free. His eyebrows were furrowed as he frowned a bit.
Just what the hell does she want?
Maybe the truth.
...
"You're right."
He continued staring off to the side, apparently the both of them refused to look at one another. "I did leave you. But don't think it was because I was ditchin---"
He looked at her out of the corner of his eye, as she cut him off... verbally and mentally.
"-- What?"

Charles eavesdropped quite easily on the conversation, considering that the chat wasn't trying very hard to be private. He looked left, then right, then sighed. "Times like these I wish I had a bag of popcorn. One that's not trying to dance or get killed by a penguin."
The Chauffeur shifted back and forth on his feet. "So, here we are. What happens now?" he said to no one inparticular.

Don't think it was cause he was ditching? What else could it have...
And then she'd gone and said it.
"I'm pregnant," she repeated, softly. She relented, slightly, or maybe it was out of embarrassment that she started explaining. "It was immaculate. Rafe's a god, he can do that sort of thing. I'm still..." She shook her head. No one had ever touched her like that. Maybe no one ever would. "But...I am pregnant."
She was still staring down at the sands of the void.

If it were physically possible, his jaw would have hit the floor right now.
"...he can do that sort of thing."
"W-Wha.... But...Ugh..."
What the ******** did this to you?!"
And as quickly as the shock had come, now it was settling in. His sudden grip on her shoulder might have been a tad more rough than called for, but at the moment all he was thinking of was glorified divine rape. "Where the hell is he!?"

"No idea, mon ami." Nascen spoke, quietly enough as to not cut into anything, to Charles. "I think somethings coming, but for now, I think we wait." He sighed, pulling his coat back on, and then pausing a long moment before doing the same with the straps for his gear, leaving the backpack next to him still.
"We wait until whatever it is rears its ugly head. The waitings near enough got me in shivers though. Things only seem to get worse each time, so if we've yet to see the end..."

Sam looked up at Charles, ignoring the drama. "We're royally ******** unless we find this 'backdoor'." She all but growled before she spotted Vahn and his rose. She all but ran over to him, running the handheld scanner over his body.
"Where did you get this!?!?" pointing to the rose on his chest, her voice urgent, anxious and happy all at the same time.

"--??"
He turned his head in the direction of the new voice, more than disgruntled as he recognized who it was.
He waved her and the fancy machine away from his person, annoyed at the moment.
"What the hell-- come on lady, back off. I got it from you!"

Charles looked over to what the "this" was. At that moment he started putting two and two together, having seen Amp defeated by Vahn earlier. "Crim, Allen, got a rose petal from Conrad after we defeated the egg thing," he said to Sam, gesturing towards his friend with his head.

His eyebrow arched slightly as one woman approached Vahn, fussing over some rose that had been pinned to his chest. Athan looked down between his legs and picked up his own crystal rose with his right hand and held it aloft for her to see.
"I've got one of those, too."
Athan shifted slightly as he extended his legs and then rose up to a standing position, still leaning against the wall.
"So what's so special about 'em?"

Owle proceeded to ignore everything but the drama. Including Sam running up. Vahn's hand was suddenly gripping her, too fast for her to duck away.
"Gone," Owle answered, fear in her eyes as she witnessed Vahn's sudden rage. How roughly he was holding her, how much he was... "The Furies took him. He might already be destroyed, for all I know."
...trying to defend her?
The look in Vahn's eyes...oh no...he wasn't thinking. "It wasn't like that! I had to beg him...it wasn't..."
The words failed her, so she started talking in Vahn's head. "If he was going to be destroyed, this-" It was clear, somehow, that by 'this' she meant the pregnancy. "-could somehow allow him to be brought back. It wasn't...I did it willingly. I didn't want him being destroyed because of me. I couldn't lose him like that, even if it meant..."

"Vahn..."
He exited the temple at the sound of an engine and the chatter, still messing with his necklace.
"I see you've made it one piece... good. There's nothing going on here..." He looked to the others gathered and made a face. "...unless there's something I'm missing?"

Sam looked over at Crim and then Athan...All three were here...It might just work...."Those roses need to..."
She looked over at Vahn and the way he was treating Owle. "You need to let her go." Her hands on her hip as she looked at him.

He was really at a loss for words.
A first that, this wise crackin' usually seemingly immature uncouth young man, was stuck in gears.
He only realized a bit more afterwards that he was holding her tightly, his hand immediately dropping.
"So---... s**t... I mean.."
He kicked out with his right foot, turning tot he side a bit, as he lifted his left hand up, and rubbed his forehead a bit.
He was at a loss.
"So!? That doesn't mean you have to have his kid!"
He turned to her again, some of his words stuttering as he brought them out. He could care less for everyone else around them and if they overheard or not. "I mean... "
Damn. Damn. DAMN!
It was only a week ago that he had seen that b*****d at the Tavern. Hard to think that he had felt so uncomfortable with that guy.. and now he was gone.
She loves him and you know it.
"....Where did they go."
His back was to Owle, his hand still on his forehead. It was hard to tell how he was coming across, since his face was away from her, and his tone of voice was the usual flatness.
He was talking about Rafe of course, and those who took him.

Athan's right arm stuck out at his side as he waited for Sam to finish her statement. When no finish seemed to be in sight, he made a little circular motion with the rose and leaned his head forward.
"The roses need to...what?"
At least they were getting somewhere now. Earlier everyone was just sitting around and talking about pie. Now...now something big was going down.
At least Athan inwardly hoped so. Whether it was simply the final nail in the coffin to the adventure or the beginning to some new one, he didn't bother to guess.
There were far too many surprises in the past week for him to count. Another one was just routine by this point.
