I'll read up on that duck. BB, were very careful with our substitutions. No one is allowed to transform into a log, they must switch with A) Something that is relatively their size, B) Something that stands alone, so it cant be the limb of a tree, C) Something that is within a clear range of sight. In this guild, a clone would be the best example of what you could substitute with.

except someone could just look over and be like "i see a fallen tree branch, subsitution"

Then we call them out for douchebaggery

Just an idea, I know the crew gets tired of people pming them and asking them "can you approve' and I know how much Greg then likes to push the approving back another day as he sits and pets his dog snuggle muffins. But maybe to save everyone a headache we could set days like once a week where stuff will be approved. And it doesnt have to be the same for everything, if like say john the approver of custom jutsu, works on weekends and have the weekdays off then he can be like "ok i will approve stuff on friday" and if Mary Sue the approver works weekdays and she has weekends off she can be like "i will approve stuff on sunday".

That way the members are happy because they know when something will get approved, and crew are happy cause they are not being harassed. Now stuff that has a high priority such as profile accepting can be the exception. And again just a suggestion, seems like it would make everyone happy.

No. Doing that makes people schedule their lives around gaia, which is something I will NOT allow to happen. And the reason I push back approvals when people do that is because I'm trying to get a point across: The crew is not the slave pen of the members. We do this on our time, for no pay, to make everyone happy. Demanding that we approve something is rude to us.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 19, 2011 6:34 pm

And it not rude when no one approves stuff for a week or two? There is some stuff that hasn't been approved for at least a MONTH. This isn't about being slaves, its like saying your slaves when your teacher asks you to have your hw turned in by a certain time. This is saying we respect you that we will leave you alone and let you do your job, but it saying you will respect us and do your job. That why you are crew you run the guild, you promised to run the guild to the best of your ability, and i can feel you all have lives outside of gaia but when weeks go by with stuff not being approved then it just getting ridiculous.

Also I did say they pick a time that GOOD FOR THEM. Not to mention if it has been over a week or 10 days if we ask, you just push it back more. That is showing no respect at all. How can anyone expect to be shown respect, when they wont give it. Not to mention SEVERAL guilds have a day where they accept stuff and they arent "slaves" I mean it a once a week thing, god forbid someone can be on once a week. Oh and what if they cant make saturday, approve it sunday. Your basically saying it impossible for a crew to be on at least once a week for enough time to approve something.

Actually, your allowed to ask for another crew member to step in if it has been more than 7 days. I only enforce my 1 day push back rule because it's usually someone asking to get their profile approved directly after submission (DISCLAIMER: I am not targeting any specific individual with that statement. It has happened to me so much that its almost expected. It is not my intention to directly point someone out and make them feel victimized, and if you have been I am sorry.)

What I'm saying is, I do not want people to schedule their lives around approvals. Its as bad as scheduling your week around WOW raids. (DISCLAIMER: Basically the same thing as the last one.)

See problem I had was that was when i did that, I asked Mistah to check over my weapon cause Luo was MIA. Mistah thought it was fine, but Luo came back and looked and saw several things wrong with it.

It doesnt have to be a specific day just a general thing like the weekend. It just would be nice to have some consistency. Not approve some monday and tuesday, and not feel like doing it til next friday. Also no it is NOT as bad as WOW raids, wow raids are like "you must be on a 5 o clock friday and play til 8 and if you cant til 8 dont come", I have some wowtards friends and I can honestly say nothing beats what they do ever.

If this is stemming from the fact that Luo was gone for a while, he had his internet disconnected, then was in the hospital, so posting was quite hard.

I know its not as bad as a WOWtard. I do play WOW, but I've sworn to myself that I would quit if I ever caught my self marking my calendar for a raid (Which I'm still not a high enough level to do. Kinda sad, actually, but oh well)

Our policy is that the crew is running this guild at their convenience, so approvals will also be at their convenience.

Send me $50 a day by Paypal, I'll guarantee everything I'm allowed to check over will be checked consistently and quickly. Until then, this is something I do for fun, and I don't consider arguing over details on a bad custom with a member who thinks it's perfect already to be fun. I do customs when I think of it, and attempt to do them all at once. Once it starts to feel like work however, I back off and let it sit for a while.

Basically, once you can guarantee the crew a paycheck for doing this, you can set dates and demand things be done by then all you want, but as we don't get paid, this is what is called volunteer work. And if you bug a volunteer too much, he's gonna stop volunteering.

...the point that is trying to be made is when you try to ask other to approve stuff, they tend to miss stuff like in my situation so you could have people walking around with broken stuff.

And I understand it at people convince, but after 6 days you basically saying people can harass the crew to get stuff approved
PostPosted: Thu Jan 20, 2011 2:56 am

well, no harassing the crew and asking them politely to give your whatever a look are completely different things. As a rule any more than bringing it up politely once every couple of days would probably be "harassing" them over it and not help you much. I tend to wait 8 days between bringing it up again.
I kinda agree with gregar on the schedule thing, though it would certainly be nice if the approval threads moved faster. that said, if you had the money I guess you could pay them and make it worth their while. lol

Of course he is correct in one sense, customs are moving slow right now. I have stuff in custom jutsu, tech and summoning that have been waiting for at least a week. (though summonings are being worked on by Gregar right now, and the custom tech was overlooked in an honest mistake I hope.)

Could someone take a look at the custom tech or jutsu sometime? I have stuff in both that havent been looked at for 8 days or more.

Here's the thing for me: It takes the average person about 10-25 minutes to flesh out a custom application. It takes me 15-40 to THOROUGHLY look it over and figure out what needs to be done. Multiply this over by even five people, and I'm looking at by the VERY LEAST, an hour and fifteen minutes worth of staring at a computer. And this is something I put myself up to do in my own time. I'm not going to spend that much time once or twice a week out of my day to sit and look at consecutive applications, I'm sorry. The reason things take longer in my case at least, is because I go through probably three custom weapons at a time, figure out what's wrong with them, if it can be fixed, and then save that information and move on to the next ones the next day.

Now, if the problem can be fixed, then I hit another twenty minute snag. How can the person fix the problem if it's fixable? Because it's not always as easy as saying, "remove that," or "make it cost this much." So say that all three applications I went over the first day can indeed be fixed. GREAT!....for the person who applied for it. I'll spend probably twenty to forty minutes figuring out if what I say will work correctly not only for them, but according to custom weapon and guild rules, and if it'll be feasible against opponents of their rank and even one rank above just to make sure.

Add only that first group's time that I have to put in, and I'm looking at just under two hours of work. And that's for THREE customs. In the end, this is not to benefit me at all, this is so that someone can happily trot around with their new shiny sword and use it at their discretion. I get no use from the weapon, none of my time back, and finally, no money. I do it because I like to, certainly not because I have to. In all honesty, we could just not have a customs thread altogether and save ourselves the trouble and have a bland guild. Instead, we took customs a step further and even opened up new customs that have never been seen before such as custom technology.

EVERYTHING we do is for the guild. We do it for free, in our own time. And when you literally schedule me to spend two hours twice a week remedying someone's weapon when in all honesty they could've spent more time on it to think of the things I have to think of themselves, it becomes not worth it. (Note: This doesn't refer to anyone in particular. Sometimes we ALL miss things.)

And when I spend maybe too much time on a group of customs, or even too little, I don't mind getting a nudge in a polite PM saying, "Hi! Sorry to bother you, but it's been just a bit over a week since I submitted my custom weapon. Do you think you could take a look?" Well when you put it like that, of course I can. I have no problem doing things for people when it seems like nothing is getting done. But if I'm feverishly working on people's customs, releasing new things for the guild, running a village, AND creating story arcs, the last thing I need two-three days after someone submits something is, "Hey! I need my weapon checked, you were scheduled to do it yesterday, but didn't....." Yeah, well do you want a weapon, or a better running guild? Your choice.

If I may elaborate, Luo's post is EXACTLY why I encourage people to not post a custom if there are already plenty waiting to be looked at. If we set aside time to look at the five that we saw in the morning when we get back from work/school, and we see there are now EIGHT, we're gonna wait for a better time instead, making it harder on everyone. So yes, this is a message to everyone: If you're going to post a custom, use your head. Dont add it to an already monstrous list.
