Popularity really does just depend on who you know and from where. In some guilds your legend precedes you and people cower in fear, in others no one knows you so it doesn't really matter.
That's why I like starting fresh in VR. Only a total of 5-6 people know me there, so I don't get that effect of "Oh s**t! Someone told me about that guy, I'm gonna avoid fighting him at ALL COSTS!" After a while, it gets to be a real drag when people take OOC into RP'ing and avoid the crap out of you. You never get a good fight.
In other news: Thanks Zane for making the chunnin exams!

You never get a good fight. That's what I ran into in the game I was RPing in. Though it was more that nobody was any good than they all avoided me. The problem I got was they all wanted to instantly stick me in a position of power, which I really didn't want half the time. I don't have any rep on Gaia though, just got here.
