As Zaven made his way back into the forest, he couldn't help but notice that for some reason, the forest had grown darker.
Wait... it was STILL getting darker.
It was almost high noon. It shouldn't be turning to dusk. What was going on?
The few soldiers that were taking up the rear of the brigade turned glances over their shoulders, whispering intensely to one another as they struggled to move faster in their formations.
Suddenly, the leaves and brush that had fallen to the ground were whipped up in a strong gust of wind, whistling through the branches of the trees, and whipping the Dragon Rider's hair back. The wind barreled towards him, as the forest grew darker still.
Then, at the final moment, something happened. It looked as if all of the shadow, and all of the darkness that had fallen on the forest was being thrust upward. Like a tsunami of shadows.
A tsunami that was about to descend on the back of Aurora's army.

Sunray whinnied, and sped up faster -- flying next to the large red bird as Sunray realized her task. Or not. Marilla? said Sunray telepathically. What exactly are we doing...?
Flying! was Marilla's reply with a lop-sided, but pretty, little smile.
Sunray lip buzzed and pouted, saying telepathically, No, seriously!
((Yeah, seriously...what was our task? 0_o))

(Darkness like Voldemort! Lolz)
As Zaven dashes through the forest he notices the apex of darness setteling in, turning back to the villiagers he notices The forest isnt growning but Darkness is simply being added. Looking at the new darkness his body changes first his nails legthen, skin grows more than and Irises begin to turn red. His hair darkens, and pupils widen. Then his skin Blackens to a deep brown and Random Skin Cells begin to grow and overlap his skin, creating scales that consume his body, his ears legthen. Skin darkening everstill, gaining more texture.
diging him nails into the groun he lauches himself towards the army, Where monks are already casting holy magic to creat barriers against the blackness. As he approoaches the scene the darkness subsides slightly and then grows into a tsunami across the back of the Villagers. Zaven rushes closer and Leaps into the center of the vortex high above the earth. Hitting a torrent of air He Causes an explosion of air. Zaven rotates as he falls, causing a counter current within the darkness. Massive red lines appeaear within the darkness from the power going through Zavens figures in fury.

Felicia had been walking through the thick forest for days, and was getting rather tired of it. It would be nice to see some sunlilght soon... she thought, noticing that the trees weren't thinning at all. Felicia lightly tilted her head backwards, looking up through the trees to see the green canopy blocking out all any any sunlight. One of her black cat ears twitched as an irritated look came over her face. But suddenly her ears stood up; what was that noise..? Felicia turned her head to look, wishing she could see better. It looked like..a caravan..and there was the strong smell of horses. Slowly her smooth, leathery black tail started to sway behind her. Food..! she thought, her body trembling a bit as she started to quickly head towards the horses. She hadn't eaten anything in almost a week, and it was taking it's toll on her body. Felicia crouched down, getting closer and closer until finally she could see them. But instead of her normal, slender form watching the horses, there was a large black dragon staring through the trees as it licked it's muzzle excitedly. She froze, quickly turning her head to see darkness welling up and what looked like an army with a dragon about to pounce. Confusion came over her face as she stared, watching the lights as the dragon spiraled downward.

((Zaven, I have been reading all the posts. And you'd be incorrect about Nox being evil biggrin ))
The darkness has always been a thing villainized. "Beware the darkness." "Fear the night." A time when man is vulnerable; asleep in bed and clueless of the sinister acts that could be exploiting the darkness around them. When a plague strikes, it is considered a "dark" time. When a man kills, he is "black" hearted.
Humans are foolish for this very reason. They assume. They assume all too much, and when they pass their judgment, they are never prepared for the consequences.
I have discovered a shadows true nature, through observing this fascinating race.
Shadows are neutral. They are simply a thing created, and existing. They are neither good, nor evil. Just as the day is not good, and the night not wicked. The sun can dry a field to its death in a day, where that same field can find solace in the cool shelter of the night's embrace.
What's more is that shadows themselves are only the antithesis of light. They are just as palpable. Wind does not affect the way that light plays upon the ground, and human hands cannot mold shadows.
This is what truly intrigues me. For, based on my observations, I have come to the conclusion that when a Shadow Fiend is present, these rules no longer apply. A shadow becomes something incredibly volatile. It can be solid. It can be liquid. The complexity of a Shadow Fiends nature continues to confound me. I must observe this one more closely when given the chance.
Spirits of the Arcane, bless me in my quest for knowledge. -an excerpt from a diary found in a cave near the North shores of Alteron
-------------------------------------
All around the creature named Zaven, he could hear laughter. Long, amused, deep laughter. Echoing through the darkness that was all around him.
Then suddenly the darkness was gone. Zaven found himself falling through the air of a seemingly normal forest, bright as the day it was in. This might be because the massive gathering of shadows had simply passed across him. After all, they were only shadows.
Weren't they? They had to be. The windstorm that Zaven had created had done nothing to alter them, except that it had ripped up many trees and scarred the land beneath him.
The shadows simply continued to race forward, towards the army.
The monks of Zaven's following were unnerved by the speed and size of this monstrous form that was barrelling towards them. However, they knew that their magics would repel the darkness. After all, the darkness is an evil thing, and a barrier of holy faith would bring it screaming to a halt.
As a nameless mage had stated, the foolishness of men is that they make assumptions. This talk of holiness against the darkness was one of those instances.
Shadows are only shadows. The antithesis of light. Mankind has made darkness a symbol of evil. However, that does not make it such. A being's intentions make it evil. Regardless, the kin of the shade have known for quite some time that their domain was considered evil. They are smart creatures, and when it benefits them, they will use such superstition to their advantage.
While Zaven might only sea a wall of darkness rushing away from him, those of the army whose faces were turned towards the face of the dark mass were seeing something totally different.
Before them, the towering form was shaped into the leer of a devil. A gigantic skeletal face, its lipless, fang filled maw twisted in a roar devoid of sound.
The skull's jaws opened wide, and descended like a ghost upon the terrified back of Aurora's forces.
((For refference, the shape isn't actually covered. IF you've seen The Mummy, or The Return of The Mummy, you'll know what I'm talking about. The shadows are just "shaped" that way.))

Mina stared blankly past the rocky ridge that would lead them out of the peninsula. Her dark eyes were filled with worry as the thought of Asrithe was left to fend off the creatures at home. She could hear Iurii walking up the jagged pass behind her.
"Iurii, do you think Asrithe will be alright by himself?"
Iurii adjusted the burlap sack slung across her shoulder. "He was always more talented than us with the whole slaying business. Besides, the towns people will be there to help."
Mina sighed, "Maybe we should've stayed a bit longer, just to help train some of them."
Flicking her long ebony hair off her shoulder, she gave Mina a cold look. "Do you suppose you want to go back?"
She shook her head, causing her messy bowl cut to sway with the movement. "No..." Mina murmured.
Iurii pointed ahead of them and began to saunter across the ridge. Corsicus, their silver wolf followed. Mina lingered a moment to look back over the dense forest they had passed. It was going to be a long time before she would see it again.

Esiruil slowly opened her eyes. Even after all the training, she still felt odd traveling through the shadows like that.
Blinking she took in her surroundings. Why was a forest at high noon this dark?
"Wha-?"
*FWIISSHTHUNK*
Esiri barely ducked out of the way as a stray arrow whized where her head formerly was and embeded itself in a tree.
"Aw, great, a battle..."
Esiri sighed and looked more closely at the fight. She noticed what appeared to be a dragon-like creature, an ugly, gigantic skeletal face emerging from the shadows, and a girl with cat ears and a tail off to the side in the forest.
Carefully, and as silently as possible, Esiri pulled out one of her scimitars and ran towards the cat girl.
"Maybe she'll know what in Alteron is going on..." Esiri thought

Out of all the commotion, she heard a faint sound behind her and quickly spun around while simultaniously drawing her sword to hold it up in front of her with her legs braced as the other came towards her. Her eyes were narrowed as she watched the other approach, ready to fight to the death if she had to. The girl was quiet, though, she had almost missed her..her ears folded back at that thought.

Her eyes were narrowed as she watched the other approach, ready to fight to the death if she had to. The girl was quiet, though, she had almost missed her..her ears folded back at that thought. Esiri saw that as she approached, the girl's ears flattened and take up a defensive stance with her sword. "I mean you no harm!" Esiri shouted ahead, " I only want to kn-" Esiri batted away another arrow and continued. "I only want to know what is going on," Esiri said as she came to a stop. She tucked back some stray red hair from her face and behind her pointed ears, then she shifted her stance into a non threatening position. "Man, I've only been here for a few minutes and I've already managed to tick off the locals...some Shadowdancer I am," Esiri thought. P.S. I'll have my character pic up in day or so. I'm drawing it myself so it's taking me a little while to do sweatdrop Erm... for now just know that Esiri is wearing mostly black, has red hair, elf ears, and has tan-ish skin. P.S.S. Her lineart is done and should be next to her profile

Felicia watched her warily but slowly shifted her position so that she sas standing upright, lowering her sword but not making a move to sheath it. Her ears remained folded back as she carefully looked the girl over. She then shrugged before lifting her sword up with one arm to rest on her shoulder as she held it by the hilt, her black furry cat ears going back to a normal position. "As if I would know." Felicia said as she swung her smooth, leathry black tail behind her letting the triangular tip brush against the ground.

Bayne Tarrok Zaven Kenishino (WTF Where are all these people coming from now im soo confused) ((Beats me. I only wonder where the rest of them are, because they're obviously not in the same area as us. At least, I don't think so.)) (wow...the're are a lot of new faces...) Dorian, who stayed at the rear waited for Zaven to return. He closed his eyes and tried to sense his aura. But intead he found two. neither evil, so he didn't fell a threat. But the fact that zaven hadn't returned left him feeling unease. He announced to Aurora that he will return shortly and someone must replace his position. He begins traveling back toward the forest his wings fold back as he notices the skull formed of darkness rushing toward him. Without much time to react. Dorian spreads his wings and crosses his arms. Grabing the opposite wing in each hand he rips them out and swings downward at the creature. Much to his suprise the hit was solid and he caused it to fade out well for now. His once beautiful wings reveal the're true form two oversized Wing-shaped cleavers covered in blood. Breathing heavily from the two wounds in his back. Dorian fixes his posture and then his hair. Blood soaks the back of his tattered shirt. "Can you find the source of that creature?" Dorian's face riddled with worry and pain. "Already have!" A disembodied femail voice replys. Dorian's shadow takes the shape of a girl with large wings. Dorian looks down at it and nods. Suddenly the shadow covers him as he runs toward the source and hopefully Zaven.

Mina and Iurii finally made it out of Creature Tail Peninsula, the farthest Mina had ever gone from home. The silence made a chill in the air, almost as if they were strangers. Mina didn't recognize her own sister, once warm and affectionate, now icy and quiet.
She studied the scars that peeked out from the tears in Iurii's shirt, wondering what could've happened to make her so...
"Do you need help with that bag?" Iurii asked with an emotionless mutter. Mina shook her head, and forced her gaze elsewhere."Well, then stop falling behind."
Once more, the silence between them emerged.
---
Iurii stared ahead with harsh eyes, following the rock formations that lead them to another kingdom. She could hear Corsicus up ahead, sniffing around and pawing at something. A scent of water mixed with the creatures that wandered about this trail played across her nose.
Everything was so clear, smells, sounds, sights, tastes...she would never become accustomed to it.
"There is a creek, it's a bit off the trail, but we can stop there." Mina lifted her head, "Is it on the map?"She made a face when she realized Iurii wasn't looking at a map. "Then how do you know?"
Iurii continued to stare at the rocks and grass. "Just trust me."
