Ropemaker
The associate rabbi at the shul that I work for is gay. He even has a civil union. His partner just had his bar mitzvah acatually... I have to admit I was a little surprised at first but it doesn't really change who he is or his abilities to do his job.

Wait wait...

Someone who works with all that G-D Stuff, can still do his job, while being gay?

Gay... Rabbi... Does Not Compute.... DoES NoT CoMPuTe... ExTERMinATE... EXTERMINATE!!

Wait a minute, You know something. you're right, it does sound very silly to think people cannot be gay and have a good relationship with HASHEM and the Jewish Community. Or that being gay would interfere with any of that.

I'll save my inner Dalek for something more pressing next time.

I highly recommend going to a showing of Trembling Before God, a documentary about homosexuality within the Orthodox world. Yes, there are gay Jews. Yes, there are gay Jewish clergy. Yes, it's possible for a gay person to have a close relationship with the Creator. Hashem's greatest gift is the ability to love.

I watched that a few months back on IFC, it was eye-opening, to say the least.

Of course! Love.

What should it matter which gender makes you happy? We can all serve G*d just the same! Homosexuals are mouth breathers just like you and me, and they have the same capacity for good!

A good person, is a good person. It doesn't matter their ethnicity, their religion, OR sexual orientation. Why should we condem them for not being like everyone else in the herd?

i am against the political outbursts of the homosexuals(pride parades, massive assembly's, etc.) and do believe that its wrong, as stated in Leviticus. but, it might be natural, and everyone sins, so im a little confused.

Well, it is natural with some animals, and I don't see why it should interfere with G-d's relationship with you.

That said, I still don't approve or agree with homosexuality. neutral

I'll use a line of thought given to me by an orthodox friend while debating this very issue.

G-d has given mankind commandments to follow, but G-d also makes it so some people can not (physically, mentally, or spiritually) follow these commandments. There are men born without arms, who clearly can not wash their hands, or place Tefillin on himself. There are Jews born in remote regions where they have no hope of keeping kosher, or where it is dangerous to openly practice and so must not celebrate shabbat. And there are people born who do not believe their gender fits their sex, or who are attracted to people of the same sex, or any other of the many things that naturally make it hard, or even impossible, for a person to follow G-d's commandments.

Are we/they (yes, I am one of them) going to suffer for eternity because of this? No, of course not. The main difference between our G-d, and the God of the Christians is that G-d forgives, God does not. Even IF G-d disagrees with our choices, we will be forgiven.

That point aside, one must wonder if these things are really wrong, if G-d decided to place them in our lives in the first place. It's not as though we had a choice when we were born, so please don't even try the "free choice" line of BS. G-d made us the way we are, and you're going to sit there and tell G-d He made us wrong?

That is probably one of the best arguments I've heard in a while; well-said. :3

Except careful of knocking the Christian god. xp

I'm sorry you have a problem with pride events, but I hope you do realize that they're very important for a community of people who've been ostracized, beat up, and even murdered by the community at large for what they are.

Oh, I'm sorry, does that remind you of another group of people?

Anyway, gay pride events are some of the best parties out there >.>

So um. What about Jew Pride? Now THAT is a parade I'd go to. biggrin

Jew Pride Parade = Walk For Israel. My community does it every year. There's also a tradition of walking all around Israel if you live there, during a certain week when a certain Torah portion is read. During that portion, Hashem tells Avraham, "Take a walk all around, and everywhere you walk will be yours." So we continue that by taking long walks all around Israel during that week (those who are in Israel at the time).
