Name: Sanada Xio
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Karmic Alignment: -1
Rank: [MB]-8 (Aug 09.06)
Tribe/Nation: Fire Nation
General Description: Xio stands at 5'8" to a head, with a compact frame built taut upon a flexible form. Determined muscularity ripples across the trim vestiges of Xio's body, formed of steel binds compressed beneath coppery bindings.
Eye Colour~ Crystalline ring of unfamiliar cobalt circling the depths of a briquette midnight void alight with dancing sparks.
Hair Colour~ Shoulder-length tresses of a crimson so charred as to be considered only raven in chromaticity.
Skin Colour~ Brazen tanned, copper tones play across Xio's flesh.
Clothing~ An underlying layer of flexible chain, small and resilient plates interwoven with fine silks and pliable lengths of nickel wire. Situated atop this setup rests several metal plates of deep crimson that spread across the torso from neck to thighs, lightweight and packed with further compressed folds of silk. Borne over the lower layer of armoring, Xio's normal clothing takes its shape and purpose. Spacious sapphire hakama bearing gilt-trimmed flowers of sable and ivory lotus petals adorn Xio's legs, stopping just short of earthen-crafted geta.
Oddly enough, Xio wears only a solid ashen cheongsam across his upper corpus, extending lower material just beneath the groinal region. The edges of the cheongsam are emblazoned with alternating cream stripes co-mingled with dusky swirls of inque. Across his throat, a dark red collarpiece is displayed, bearing the Sanada Family Crest as the serene visage of serpentoid dragon wreathed in flames.
History/Bio: Xio Sanada was born into a mixed-heritage (Mandarin and Japanese) family descended from disgraced Fire Nation nobles, the hitherto-referred Sanada Clan. As a child, Xio had what he felt was happiness. There were cousins aplenty to play with and enough room to explore forever (or so it seemed), all under the watchful eyes of his parents. Xio played, Xio was fed, Xio played more and then finally Xio slept... and it was good.
Only, Xio's perfect life would not forever consist of playing, eating, and sleeping. By the age of eight, Xio learned to hold a sword, and he took to it like a spark to kindling. The energy spent in guided playing under the tutelage of his parents and uncles and aunts was all training, unnoticed lessons imprinted into his mind through years of lack-a-day fun. Thus was Xio prepared for the blade, awakening a passion that seared his instructors in the art of swordplay. Within two years, at the age of ten, the boy had not only shown his frightening aptitude for the blade, but surpassed all expectations the Sanada Clan held for his abilities.
And indeed, the expectations were high. The Sanada Clan was tired of its centuries-long disgrace, and knew that it was once again time to reclaim at least something of its former glory. To do this, Terasi Sanada of the Main House and Mudan Sanada of the Lower House were paired. Terasi was a master swordsman, his skills unmatched by any in the Clan and feared elsewhere. He was an imposing and forboding man who was constantly prone to serious reactions.
Mudan Sanada, however, was a firebender of some reputable ability amongst the Clan. Certainly more than any other female of the Lower House had exhumed in ages... but Xio was to know naught of this. He was a tool, a weapon meant to be wielded by the will of the Clan. By the age of fourteen, Xio had already become the master of the Sanada-style of swordsmanship, Xiao Hui Zhi Ya Wei-Satsujinken, or Flaming Branch of the Sun's Murdering Sword. Or so he thought.
By the age of fifteen, Xio was introduced to firebending. The concept was introduced to him all at once, so great had the Sanada Clan's pride and confidence had grown. Xio was taken aback, this was not the form he had striven to perfect himself, it was flowing and destructive, built from tumultuous emotion. The swordplay he'd learned was quite the opposite... but still, he attempted it all the same. It was expected, of course... and he delivered very well. But the Clan had been dreaming for more out of him... far more and far faster. He progressed well enough until his seventeenth birthday, whereupon his teachers from the Clan's Council were ordered to forego further firebending training and force the upcoming Xio Sanada to learn the true nature of Xiao Hui Zhi Ya Wei-Satsujinken.
So did Xio begin learning how to firebend through his swords. The massive conflict in motivation and style began to wear upon young Xio, but he kept the stress and pain hidden from all but himself... distancing himself from what friends he had and all family... sitting alone at night to try and calm himself. But the stress continued to build, and began to affect his judgment. One particularly starry night, Xio invaded the Council's Scroll Library, one of the few places in the manor he was not allowed to even be within sight of. He began to read, and found startling things... Xio found several firebending scrolls, and a scroll of earthbending that he simply could not find it within himself to understand; a further scroll of advanced swordsmanship that held him in awe; and finally the most important - the scroll detailing Xio's coming and the Sanada Clan's planned rise back to the nobility.
Xio suddenly understood it all, and wished none of it had ever come to pass. But he was bright teenager to some point, and knew that wallowing in self-pity would only cause him to rot away. Taking his findings, Xio stole away from the manor that very night, into the world beyond. From the upper house, near the foremost window, his father grinned ruthlessly and alerted the Council that their plans were coming to fruition. Xio, now declaring himself the only remnant of the Sanada Clan, sought out to seek that glory for himself: unknowing that he was playing the role destined for him by his own uncaring elders. To this day, he still struggles to master the full extent of Xiao Hui Zhi Ya Wei-Satsujinken's power... by training both halves of the convoluted style to his own preference. In the meantime, he finds work as a bounty hunter while in search of a suitable master to extend his knowledge of firebending.
