Azalea Town was surprisingly smaller than Sebastian expected. He had to question exactly why a gym would be placed in such a rather secluded town. As he walked along taking in the sight he had to pause and stare a moment at his surroundings. There was a surprisingly large amount of Slowpoke wandering around in the open, he noted. Even Pichu seemed a bit surprised to see so many of the so-called dopey pokemon wandering about. They certainly seemed in their element. One even crossed the pairs path, pausing only briefly to look up at them, whether in interest or obliviousness before redirecting it's gaze forward and continuing it's toddle along.
Sebastian just stared after the creature, blinking once, then twice before frowning slightly and redirecting his gaze forward. "Alrighty then...," He murmured, shaking his head as he started to move once more. He needed to find the gym and get his battle done. "You see anything that looks like a gym hall?" The man inquired of the Pichu on his shoulder. The little rodent seemed to actually be looking before he felt a light pat on the side of his cheek.
"Pi!" Turning his head to look, he noted the little paw pointing in the direction of an odd shaped building with the standard gym seal adorned just above the doors. Yup, that certainly looked like a gym. "Great! Thanks." He remarked seeming to honestly appreciate the help. In fact, Sebastian had almost forgotten that the Pichu was actually a bit of a problem. Almost.
With the gym in sight he took a moment to get his team in order. He fished out Naps and Shuffle's pokeballs and released the two in front of him. The Fletchinder gave him a welcoming chirp, her wings stretching out to full length at her sides before she folded them back up. Her gaze lingered curiously on the Pichu riding her trainer's shoulder, head tilting just a bit in interest. Naps just gave a squeaky roar, blinking and looking around as yet another Slowpoke wandered into view to stare at him.
"Alright you two, we're going to make this a quick gym battle." Sebastian started, ignoring the Slowpoke for now and redirecting Naps' attention. "Naps, your going to be my support for this battle, just in case. Shy, I want you to handle the majority of it though. You think you can?" The bird snapped to attention, puffing her chest out and giving a chirp of approval. Naps glance at her curiously, seeming to consider something a moment before offering the charcoal he was holding to her. Maybe it'd give her a bit of a boost? It was practically a good luck charm for him! Shuffle blinked and looked at the item curiously before giving a little chirp of thanks and taking it in her talons. She appreciated it!

Sebastian studied the pair of them and gave a smile at the display of confidence and friendship between the two. It made him feel rather pumped for the upcoming battle. "Alright then, let's get to it." He remarked, returning the two to their pokeballs before heading for the gym doors. Pichu huffed a bit, coddling the mushroom closer to conceal the frown on his face. This guy sure seemed confident about this battle. Not that he'd ever actually seen a gym battle, but he'd them talked about. The fact that Sebastian wasn't going to use the stronger looking of the two though had him a bit skeptical.
Not that Sebastian knew. With the proper confidence, he marched up to the doors of the gym and pushed them open. It was impressive how these bug and nature oriented gym leaders managed to make the insides of their gym's like forests. He could've lived without the odd designs and layouts though, which seemed to thankfully be lacking. Maybe. Eventually though he found his way around the trees and to a lad who looked like he was a dedicated bug catcher.
"Hello! I'm here for a gym battle with Bugsy please." Sebastian inquired, watching as the lad addressed him with a grin. "That would be me! Bugsy, the number one authority on all things Bug-pokemon related!" The boy chimed, gesturing Sebastian to step into the ring for battle. Heh, it was sort of odd thinking about facing off with another bug-type specialist. Hopefully, unlike Viola, he wouldn't have some strange dual-types up his sleeve.
"Pleased to meet you Bugsy. The name's Sebastian." He felt the Pichu on his shoulder shuffle a bit. Was it actually sighing or something? He couldn't tell. Instead he shook it off and pulled out a pokeball, getting ready for battle.

Bugsy let loose a low whistle, impressed despite the outcome of the battle. "That's one impressive bird!" he remarked as he returned his Kakuna. "You oughta show her off to Falkner, I bet he'd get a kick out of it." The young boy threw an arm back behind his head, demeanor still pleasant even after his loss. He approached the snappy dresser and with a bit of flourish handed him his badge and two discs. "Here you go, Sebastian, you've earned these: the Hive Badge, HM01 Cut, and TM89, U-Turn."

Sebastian beamed Shuffle a huge smile as she flew pack to him, actually extending his arm so that she could land on it. It actually never occurred to him that she was a rather heavy bird. Either way though, he was incredibly proud of how she’d handled herself in the battle.
"She really is." He remarked in response to the young man’s comment, giving a little bit of a chuckle at the mention of Falkner. That was quite the suggestion, though he didn’t imagine he’d be encountering the man again anytime soon. When Bugsy presented him his winnings, he gave a smile and a little hindered bow –he was propping one pokemon on his arm and another on his shoulder after all- using his free hand to take them.
"Thank you very much. I appreciate it." He remarked, shoving the discs into his bag and keeping the badge in hand to put in his case. With another slight bow and a wave of his semi-free hand, he turned and exited the gym. Great! One step closer.

"You did amazing, Shy. I'm really proud of you." Sebastian remarked as they stepped outside. The Fletchinder extended her wings out and gave a chirp of triumph, puffing her chest out in pride. She really seemed pleased to hear that praise and well, she deserved it. Sure, Bugsy was only a second tier gym leader for the region, but she'd still managed to take everything down on her own. No small feat, given she wasn't the most trained of his pokemon.
When he gave a little bump of his arm, she fluttered to the ground and freeing up his hands. Pichu was still staring in disbelief at the bird having witnessed the battle. He honestly hadn't expected her to fry all those bugs as she had. Sure, the last two weren't all that tough, but she'd one shot the first fellow with so much as a flinch. That was insane. While Sebastian fished out his badge case and set the Hive badge into it's spot. Once that was done he fished out a couple of potions, kneeling down and using them to heal up Shuffle. She ruffled her feathers in appreciation, chirping at him again.
"Good job, Shy. Take a little rest okay?" He remarked and with a final chirp, returned the bird to her pokeball. Now that Bugsy was out of the way he could head back to Goldenrod and have a go at Whitney. Straightening up and storing away the now empty potion bottles, he glanced at Pichu.
"...You still have that mushroom?" He inquired, receiving a bit of a crossed look from the yellow rodent who promptly clutched the thing tighter. Seriously what was he going to do with it? Shaking his head, Sebastian sighed. He'd deal with it later. For now, it was back through Ilex Forest and back to Goldenrod for him.

▶ ▷ I can't swim and am drowning in a sea of darkness... ◀ ◁ ▶ ▷ I never cry and won't give up...◀ ◁ ▶ ▷ I'm lost and I can't find my way...◀ ◁
Nanaska finally left the darkness of the Union Cave, and shielded her eyes from the sudden harsh rays of sunlight. Once her eyes adjusted, she whistled as walked forwards. It was nice to be able to see natural sunlight, after all Nanaska wasn't one that enjoyed dark areas like caves very much. She stretched her arms, and looked over to see that her own pokemon were enjoying the outside world beyond the cave as well. She smiled at this, before looking for a place to rest. First and for most she needed to make sure her pokemon were fed and happy. So once she found a good spot, she hunkered down and began prepping her pokemon's food. Once done, she placed a bowl down for all five of her pokemon, before turning her attention to the pokemon egg in her hands. She smiled fondly at it, awaiting the moment it hatched. She was excited to see what kind of pokemon that would hatch. She wanted to nurture it, spoil it, and train it. She was filled with excitement just thinking about it. She hugged the egg closer to her chest, smiling a bit before she went on ahead and ate her own food.
She munched on it happily, before cleaning up everything and heading into town. It was nice to be traveling like this, though a part of her wished that she had a traveling buddy. That would have made things a lot more interesting, then again her own pokemon had their own drama too. She sighed, remembering all the things she's had to deal with due to her pokemon's antics. Yeah, her life was pretty hectic as it was. Once in town, she headed straight to the pokemon center. She then allowed her pokemon to be healed, and while she waited so studied up on the gym leader. After asking around, she found out that it was a bug gym. Nanaska wasn't worried about getting her badge this time around since she had plenty of fire type pokemon she could use. So she decided to let her Aurora rest, and exchanged her out for Kale, her charizard. It had been a while since they hung out, so she decided to let him have some air. Once her pokemon were all healed up, she started to plan out a strategy on how she would go about winning her second badge.

Nanaska thought about the gym battle a bit more, and nodded as he looked her team over. Her team was mostly made up of fire types, which had a big advantage against bug type pokemon. She smiled, if everything went well she'd have a second badge in no time! With that, she stood up and walked out of the pokemon center. She strolled through the city, and looked around a bit on her way to the gym. It was nice to see a bit more of the city before she reached the gym. Once she arrived, she took a deep breath and moved her hand towards the door handle. Once her fingers curled around the knob, she pulled it open and stepped inside. Last time she went to a gym she had been over friendly, to the point the gym leader thought that she was trying to gain his favor for an easy win. She didn't want that to happen a second time, so she decided to resisted complimenting things she found fascinating. Short and sweet answers were best over all. Though she promised to control herself this time, that was going to be easier said than done after all.
Once her feet moved in towards the front of the gym, she looked around for anyone in the area "Hello! My name is Nanaska, and I'm here to challenge the gym leader!" she called out. She waited patiently, sure she was jittery due to the excitement, but patients was a good thing to have in situations like this. She was ready, she knew her team was. She could do this, just like she did her first gym. Hopefully things would go somewhat smoothly here, with that she waited for someone to answer her challenge.
((Out.Of.Cute-Dragons: I changed Nanaska's picture btw. I liked this one a lot more, hope that's ok. ))

Leader Bugsy
A few seconds after Nanaska called out, the sound of something quiet and mechanical became audible, and grew louder with every second that passed, eventually, Bugsy came into view on a large mechanical spinarak crossing the web like structures that connected his gym. "Heya! You called?" Bugsy asked with a large child-like grin as his contraption brought him over to her side. Once it came to a halt, he hopped out, swinging his bug net behind him onto his shoulder. "I'm bugsy, the leader of this gym. It's nice to meet you Nanaska." He greeted politely. "I hope you're prepared. People often underestimate the power of my bugs!" Bugsy stated proudly, unclipping a pokeball from his side. "Come on out Scyther, it's battle time!" Bugsy called. "Scyyyther!" The mantis exclaimed, exiting his pokeball and hovering just above the ground in front of Bugsy. "Ready when you are!" Bugsy proclaimed, taking on a battle stance.

Nanaska waited calmly, and similarly to the other gym before this one she could her the sounds of machinery working. She was curious as to what she'd see this time around. She waited in anticipation, as she noticed a huge mechanical Spinarak crossing a web of structures connected to the gym. She had to say that the spider like pokemon was terrifying up close, and personally she wasn't a big fan of it. Her attention shifted to the voice that called out a greeting, and finally noticed a guy with a rather child-like smile. It was refreshing to see actually, so she smiled back and gave him a small wave in greeting. She watched as he came over, his bug net plopped over his shoulder. It was then that he introduced himself as Bugsy, the gym leader. She nodded "Please to meet you as well, I have to say that Spinarak is terrifyingly huge" she commented, rubbing the back of her hand. It was then that he went on to say that he hoped she was ready, and that people often underestimated the power of his bug types. She gulped, and tightened her grip on her bag. Her eyes were determined "I'm as ready as I'll ever be" she said softly, smiling.
When he unclipped his pokeball, she watched as he threw it up into the air and called out his pokemon Scyther. When she saw the pokemon, she whistled her eyes studying the opponent. Those blade like hands looked dangerous, she'd have to be careful with those. She made a note of that in the back of her head, before Bugsy stated that he was ready when they were. She nodded "let's have a good match!" she shouted, as she reached for her own pokeball. She hadn't really had much gym experience using Kale yet, and this seemed like a great chance to battle with him.
So she called out her Shiny Charizard "let's go Kale!" she called, as the red lizard pokemon roared at her voice. She smiled, Kale might be a lower level, and he might be weaker than Scyther at the moment. However, she was willing to take that chance. She wanted to train this pokemon, and Kale was no push over himself. With that, she took a deep breath and thought out a plan of action. She could try to burn the scyther, that way she have an even bigger advantage. So she went with that idea "Kale fly up into the sky and unleash a flamethrower to kick things off!" she commanded. Kale nodded, and unleashed a heated flame thrower towards her opponent.
((Out.Of.Cute-Dragons: oh ok, I was like I can't remember if that was ok or not haha. Also I attacked because I just assumed it was Nanaska's turn. If not I'll change my post. ))

Well since speed is determined by level here, scyther would be the one to attack first, but I didn't incorperate an attack in my last post since Nanaska hadn't chosen a pokemon to battle Bugsy yet lol. No need to edit though, I can work the proper order into my posts, but do keep this mechanic in mind for future battles. :0
Also, Scyther is at level 20, and this is when level bonuses start to apply, so Scyther would take 170 damage, not 180, due to it's level defense bonus.
Leader Bugsy
Bugsy laughed a bit as Nanaska commented on the size of the spinarak. "Well yeah! It's meant for transport around the gym, so it's gotta be big enough so that people can ride on them." He explained cheerily, making sure she was prepared and knew what she was getting into before sending out his scyther, and Nanaska responded by sending out her charizard Kale, trying to end the battle quickly with a flamethrower. "Not so fast! Quick attack scyther!" Bugsy commanded. Scyther were known for their amazing speed, so he was able to surge ahead from the ground and use his wings to propel himself into Kale for a heavy hit, but he couldn't quite escape the flames afterwards, which did a significant amount of damage, but they weren't finished just yet! "One more quick attack scyther! We've got this!" Bugsy called out encouragingly, and Scyther responded with another swift slam, sending Kale down to the ground below, defeated. "Phew! You really aren't messing around! But like I said, my bugs are tough; you're gonna have to try a little harder than that." Bugsy grinned, patting his scyther with his free hand when he'd returned to his side.

Nanaska nodded at his explanation "I suppose that's true" she whispered in agreement. That's when the battle started... it was a total disaster. Scyther was just way too fast for Kale, and it seemed that even though he did hit Syther with a powerful attack, it just wasn't enough. She did have some good intentions, she wanted to train Kale after all. However, it just seemed that she had picked a very bad battle to use him in. He may have had an advantage, but that didn't mean anything if the opponent was overwhelming you. It was disappointing on her end, her pokemon preformed well, but she had made a mistake... opps. She'd learn from this though, she would think more about what pokemon to use and when. Just because you had a pokemon with a type advantage didn't mean that you were going to win. Bugsy just taught her that valuable lesson. She watched as Kale sailed to the ground, knocked out. She gave a sad smile, before returning her pokemon. She looked at the pokeball and stroked it softly "nice work, you did great. We'll work on attacking and defending more later, for now rest well my friend" she said, before placing his pokeball away.
She then reached for her next pokemon, this time she wasn't going to hold back. She was going to use her closest friends this time around. She smiled a bit mischievously "true, your Scyther's strong, but be careful what you wish for... cause the real fight starts now!" she said enthusiastically as she tossed out her second pokemon. Once the pokeball popped open, a roar appeared from the pokemon present on the battle field. Akaor stood tall, his eyes narrowed in on his target. She placed her hands on her hips "I'm getting serious now Busgy get ready!" she shouted. Akaor stomped his foot in agreement, getting ready as well.
Once Akaor was ready, she thrust her arm outwards "let's show them what we're made of, now use ember to finish it off!" she said. Akaor nodded, and sprinted forwards, aiming for Scyther. Nanaska was hoping to take down the opponent before he could unleash that quick attack of his again. She wanted to see how this played out.

No worries, but Scyther still moves first, being level 23 over Akaor's level 22, and level boosts come before effectiveness in the calculations :0 The order of operations is written down in the Battle Mechanics if you ever need to check.
Leader Bugsy
Bugsy smiled as Nanaska admitted that his scyther was strong. Really, that was all he was looking for in every battle, to prove that his bugs were strong. Win or lose, if someone recognized the strength of his bug pokemon, he was happy. "Alright! We're ready for you!" He insisted when Nanaska implied that she would be getting serious now, sending out a quilava and ordering it to use ember. "Haha! Nice try. Scyther, use U-Turn!" Bugsy commanded, and Scyther surged forward, cloaking itself in a green light before ramming into the quilava and returning in front of Bugsy, a Kakuna now taking his place, as well as the ember attack, but his tough shell was able to help him survive the attack. "Pretty sweet move right? If you beat me, I'll give it to you." Bugsy explained with a grin. "It helps us get out of sticky situations like that." Kakuna seemed to have taken a bit of a burn from that ember though, and shifted uncomfortably before it's shell molted, shedding off the charred bits of shell and restoring it back to a pristine state.

Nanaska watched as Scyther seemed to move ahead of Akaor. He was still faster than her, and she cursed under her breath as he proceeded to use U-turn. She watched as Scyther was then switched out and another pokemon appeared. It happened so quickly that Akaor's original target switched to the new one that popped out. She blinked, and watched as the flames engulfed its target. She blinked as it then seemed that the burn that was caused by the attack vanished as it was healed. Did that pokemon have some sort of ability that allowed it to negate burn? She was puzzled at this, and so she decided she'd look into things after the gym battle. She waited, and noticed that Akaor had done some pretty good damage to the pokemon. At this rate, she could probably take it out since Akaor seemed to be a bit higher leveled than the Kakuna.
It was then that Bugsy stated that if she beat him he'd give her the move the Scyther just used. She smiled "I'll take you up on that, don't forget what you just said when I beat you" she said playfully. She wasn't being cocky, and she wasn't disrespecting her opponent. She acknowledged the gym leaders strength, at this point she was determined to win. She nodded, she'd take this one out quickly. She looked towards her pokemon, that had just now regained his composure "Akaor use flame wheel" she said. With that, Akaor spun into a wheel of fire and headed straight for the opponent.

Bugsy chuckled as Nanaska suggested that she would hold him to the promise of giving her that TM if she won. "I won't forget, but you have to beat me first!" He grinned, happy to see such determination in his opponent. This was what battles were all about. Unfortunately kakuna wasn't quite as fast, or as mobile, as his scyther, so when Nanaska ordered Akaor to use flame wheel, he couldn't move out of the way and was quickly knocked out by the intense flames. Had it been another ember attack, they probably could have handled it, but not flame wheel. "You did a good job kakuna." Bugsy reassured the bug, returning him to his pokeball. "Alright metapod, you're up!" Bugsy exclaimed, sending out his other cocoon pokemon into battle.

Nanaska watched as Kakuna went down in flames, literally. The attack had done the finishing touches, which resulted in the knock out of the pokemon. She was a bit relieved that she was able to deal with the pokemon before it could do further damage to Akaor. With that, she waited for Bugsy's next pokemon. When he sent out metapod, she studied it. Akaor seemed to be stronger, but only by a little. It was clear that Akaor would be faster as well, since the bug-type didn't look all that mobile. However, she'd have to take into consideration that this pokemon may be able to bulk up it's defense. The best course of action would be to try and deplete the opponents HP as fast as possible, so she used her strongest fire-type move "Akaor flame wheel again" she commanded. Akaor nodded and proceeded to unleash yet another flame wheel towards his opponent.
