Chico looked at Teeg, and pouted a bit, huffing his cheeks out. "I won't! Not so long as he doesn't hurt Julie!" he quickly responded. Teeg seemed nice -- like really nice, especially compared to some of the other pokemon he'd met -- but he didn't like how her kid was waving some sharp, metal thingy around. He straightened up and looked at Byr as he appeared, sizing him up some, albeit warily. "Preparing to protect my trainer, if I have to," he replied, though as he did, he was relaxing. It seemed the kid had stopped swinging that thing around, and trying to hack the corn down. But tensions still seemed pretty high... he was fully ready to try and duck around these two and headbutt that kid away from Julie if he tried anything.

Esben scrunched his nose up at Julie. "What are you talking about?!" Was she crazy? Who would make a game out of a corn field? He "No! Yer dumb!" He exclaimed, shouldering away from her and resuming his attempted massacring of the corn maze. "Well them I’ma help too! If I chop down some of this corn, then they can figure out where to go! It makes perfect sense!" He did pause though, and look at her as she explained something.
"Wait…. You can get stuff to help fight off dragons?" His eyes immediately lit up and he tucked his axe away for the time, clinging tightly to Flef as he skipped over to lean in and look at Julie eye to eye. Or as much as he could seeing as how he was slightly taller than her. "What kind of stuff?"

"D'you think humans can do that?" Chickpea asked, momentarily fixated on the idea that they could heard their thoughts; it would've been nice if the humans could understand them. If they could do that, then both Christian and Jun would definitely be able to hear his mind at work as he tried devising a plan to get them up to the table, and to where the action was. "Maybe I could lift you up!" he suggested, after several seconds of thinking, then extending his vines out towards Dune for emphasis. "You don't look too heavy!"

Christian shrugged his shoulders, he didn't know what pokemon were capable of. Still, he did get a good laugh out of Jun's demonstrative answer. "Huh, well alright. That's cute." Whether it was the idea of Jun still being able to hear his pokemon that was 'cute', or Jun's Totodile display, Christian didn't elaborate. He was tempted to ask, buuuut he was well-versed, to some extent, in social etiquette not to. He turned to the oven, checking that it was on and warming up to the appropriate temperature.
"They do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery -- so, thank you," he mused, and turned back around to face his friend. "And yeah, I trust you enough. Buuuuut, just in case..." With a grin he walked over to Jun, and put himself directly to his left, and stood diagonally with his hands cupped together. "I'm ready to catch the pan, just in case you drop it on your way to the oven."
He wasn't serious, of course. He trusted Jun enough to be able to manage this, and he showed this level of trust by, eventually, relaxing himself and stepping back to the counter. Still though, he was going to keep an eye out for the time.

Not wanting a repeat of last time, Christian, with oven mitt at the ready, was by the oven when the timer flashed thirty seconds left, and flung the door open (careful not to burn himself) exactly thirty seconds later. It might have been a bit excessive, even he could admit that, but it was worth it; sliding the cake out of the pan and onto the decorating wheel, he could tell that the cake had been cooked to perfection. "What kind of icing should we do?" he asked, and grabbed a straight spatula in preparation. "I'm thinking cream cheese, and then we can add a bit of orange food coloring to it." After all, it only seemed appropriate to keep with the Halloween theme; maybe they could make a pumpkin this time!

Dune shook his head. [ "I d-don't think so." ] At least, he sure hoped not because then it would mean those humans who came to the cave had done all of that while understanding everything. It would mean they would have known what Dune was yelling, the whole time.
Dune looked Chickpea up and down. [ "Um, I'm actually pretty heavy." ] He suspected he might be even heavier than Chickpea. He kind of had no idea how most other dunsparce were able to even flutter off the ground with such small wings, even if he knew they were really strong. [ "Oh what if- what if you pulled stuff down here? Um, if our trainers didn't mind?" ] Maybe they could decorate their own cookies this time?
Jun took a moment, closing his eyes as if to get over Christian's actions. "What would I do without you," he drawled sardonically, slowly opening his eyes again. He kept eye contact with Christian up until he had to open the oven door, movements particularly slow and deliberate.
He then put the pan in the oven and stepped back, moving normally. "I'll get the decorations sorted while you watch paint dry," he commented, obviously talking about how Christian was watching the oven like a hawk. He swiped a pack of food dye along with a prepackaged container of sprinkles and pre-made icing backs for their table.
He eyed the cake after it came out. "Sure, sounds good." He pushed the dyes towards Christian and fetched the ingredients and a bowl to mix it in. It was just icing, so it would be done quick.
Between his trips away from the table, Jun had noticed his dunsparce looking forlornly up at where the cake was placed. He assumed the pokemon was just wanting to eat the finished treats, not realizing that Dune wanted to help out. "The pokemon seem impatient," he commented when he returned, beginning to mix the icing together. Jun pushed the bowl to Christian so he could add the orange dye.
Ledian, who had been watching, buzzed the equivalent of a verbal eye-roll (for ledian), and flew forward. She picked up a jar of sprinkles and motioned from the cake to Dune.
"Woah, hey. We have to wait until the icing's on." He reached out to either take the sprinkles or push Ledian away from the cake, but his hand froze when she buzzed loudly and gestured towards Dune. Jun still didn't get it.
Chickpea nodded his head, solemnly and in reluctant understanding, before moving on to bigger and better things; i.e. the disappointment of finding out that he actually couldn't pick Dune up. "Aww, alright." He withdrew his vines, but was quick to perk up upon his friend's new suggestion. "Oh, right! That's an even better idea!" he gushed, and out came the vines again. He waved insistently at Christian, and managed to grab his attention, only... only for him to wave back at him.
"Oh, hm." Chickpea hummed gently. "I guess we'll have to try something else."

Now that was a (rhetorical) question that Christian had an immediate answer to. "You would go around, trying to find entertainment and companionship." He nodded his head along with his answer, so sure of himself.
He gave a wink, then went right back to watching their pastry bake inside the oven. Jun could mock him all he wanted, but the proof was in the pudding, or in this case the cake, and Christian could have shed a tear at how the cake came out. He grabbed the bowl Jun handed to him, then dipped the spatula into the mixed icing to begin decorating the cake. "You can't rush art," he argued, though before he could start Chickpea wanted to greet him.
Being the polite trainer he was, Christian placed the bowl down onto the table just long enough to wave back at his starter, "Well hey there, Chickpea. You having fun?" He grinned, what a friendly little pokemon he had, then picked the bowl back up to finally begin decorating. They didn't have a lot of time left!

Teeg’s expression turned to further worry, glancing between Chico and their trainers before swapping between the Teddiursa and the Chikorita as the former confronted the other. ’Oh dear, I don’t think he would!’ She didn’t sound entirely certain on that though; Esben had proven to be a bit of a rough type.
Byr on the other hand simply scoffed, putting up his paws as though expecting a boxing match to break out. ’Bah! He ain’ goin’ to try anything with yer trainer! Real warriors don’t waste time on weaklin’s!’ Byr announced with a level of bravado that could only rival Esben’s. Even as Chico relaxed, he kept his fist up, eyeing him with a funny look. ’Silly green beans tryin’ ta pick fights!’

Isi considered getting involved but was uncertain at this point ig it was a good idea. All the tenseness in the air made him nervous and he was never the type for confrontation. He didn’t understand how Byr could do it; he was crazy brave like that. Even Teeg seemed to be bolder than him. It was kind of shameful to be honest.

Christian turned his head to find an agitated thirty-something woman standing in front of their table, and beside her was... Cress, and highly amused at that. Oh, well this didn't bode well. "Is this your pokemon?" Decorating would have to wait another minute. Once again the icing bowl found a spot on the table, and with a slow nod Christian gestured to Cress, "Yup, she is. Is there something wrong?" The woman huffed, but rather than answer immediately she shooed the Totodile back to her trainer.
"There most certainly is. She keeps hiding underneath the tables, popping out, and scaring the baking contestants! Please, from now on, keep an eye on your pokemon," the woman explained, and, once she figured Christian had been properly chided, left the group to return to the contest. He looked down at Cress, who looked as happy as a clam, before he chuckled and playfully wagged a finger at her. "I appreciate your sabotage techniques, but next time be a bit more discreet." Cress nodded her head, or well... she dipped her head down, as she laughed into her claws.

Now, with nothing else to distract them, Christian could finally get to work; this was going to be the, literal, icing on the cake. Meanwhile Cress, down with her pranks for now, waddled over to Chickpea and Dune and struck up a conversation with the former. "Hey!" Christian, who had only gotten a single stroke in, looked up suddenly when he heard a call, directed towards him. He looked around, but with no one in the immediate area his gaze fell to Jun, though the voice didn't sound like his. "Down here!"
Following the voice's direction, Christian looked down but found only his pokemon there. Cress waved her claw at him, "Yeah, me! I am talking to you! And you too!" She pointed to Jun. "These guys wanna decorate your baked thing, so let them!" Christian blinked slowly, then squinted at his pokemon. So... pokemon could... actually talk?
Even as he struggled to comprehend this new information, Christian still took the cake, the icing, and its decorating tools, down to the ground so that Dune and Chickpea could begin decorating it. "There you guys are. Go... wild." So... Chickpea hadn't just been waving to him, and been trying to get his attention after all. Well, that was a bit disappointing.
