Quote: You pause for a moment to get your bearings and cannot resist taking in the breathtaking beauty of the autumnal wood. Even with the weather overcast the vivid scarlets and yellows of the foliage are as rich as dyed velvet against the gray sky and the black trunks of the trees. Gazing into the infinite reaches of the forest is like looking into stained glass…
When you turn back around an enormous fox with a luxurious pelt is standing directly in your path, watching you. Its eyes seem amused, somehow. It quickly dashes off into the undergrowth before you can react — but at least now you have a pretty good idea of where you should be heading.
You win four points this turn.
Total points: 7 Laughed at by a huge fox! Now that will not do. He followed it past the undergrowth it escaped to. He was close onto its heels, his boots creaked in agreement.

Trinian tsked. A fox print! Even more evidence to go by. How could anyone not see the culprit in this mystery. Like a disgruntled housecat, Trini stalked forward. Alert, wary and annoyed.

Blood. Stephen's eyes locked on the vibrant splash of color, and froze. Was it Fallon's? Was he hurt? Stephen glanced up, looking around. His eyes searched the ground for more; surely, if Fallon was bleeding, there would be a trail. But after a few minutes of searching...nothing. Stephen frowned, sighing. Skeleton's, clever foxes, and mysterious blood...Were they connected, someone playing some odd trick on him? Shaking his head, he pressed on.

It was Daphne who smelled the urine first, but both Euphemia and Felix eventually noticed the pungent smell as well. The doe sniffed at the bottom of the tree, sneezing not long afterward and backing away with a distinct, disgusted look in her eyes, and Euphemia could feel it along their connection. "Daphne, that's good. Maybe you can track it?" She asked, scratching Daphne behind the ears a little. Though the guardian lifted her head into the touch, she made no promises nor appeared very interested in smelling more urine. Euphemia sighed, looking at Felix. "I suppose we'll have to do it, then..."

Buoyed by the new knowledge, Lucterius continued with some measure of satisfaction. He walked with Gareth, scoping out the state of the growth around his knees. Were there more snapped branches there?
"Sir," said Gareth, and Lucterius turned to see. He was not indicating something, but he had sto -
Oh. A river. Of course. Lucterius had hunted long; this was a mistake he should not have made. The proper course of action was always to look forward first. Getting up was a struggle itself, and he admonished himself for his lack of attention. He was getting older now...Gareth's hand clasped his, and he rose, drenched and dirtied.
"I'll dry as we walk," Lucterius decided. Gareth politely did not mention the additional time it'd take now his clothing was heavy with water.

Damn! Gabriel stooped to help the clumsy buck up again, losing precious time and causing quite a ruckus. At this rate, they'd never find their quarry.
"Slow and steady, Morai," he sighed. Slow and steady, right. It didn't do to just go running, did it? You could miss tracks. Granted, at this rate...

The wild-haired woman frowns at the small trail left behind by whatever struggle had taken place. It'd taken her more than she expected to find it, and the blood had already cooled by the time she made it to where the small animal had let out it's final squeal... but, though the trail would be rough to follow, it was- indeed- better than nothing.
She pushes her way through the brush, a determined glint in her eye as she examines even the tiniest details, determined to make whatever predator it was that had been here earlier her prey.

Thorne cursed under his breath, earning a snort from Valerian. The forest that he usually read so easily suddenly seemed to be toying with him. It frustrated the hunter, but still he pushed on deeper into the trees.

Her eyes struggled to regain focus after the episode. She was wasting time standing here! Azael couldn't shake the absurd sensation of something...watching her. But she didn't dare look behind her -or above her- as her legs propelled her forward in a mad dash.

Eloise followed the muddy rabbit paws until they had disappeared which didn't leave her too far from where she had started following the trail. She let out a long sigh, she wasn't going to be able to help any of these poor creatures after all. Turning back home a little disappointed she heard a short, sad cry from somewhere up above. Glancing up, she saw a beautiful hawk perched on the tree above her. She observed the small bloody spot on him.
"Come here little buddy." She tried to coax him down. "That's alright I won't hurt you, I only want to help."
Eloise stood beneath the tree trying to soothe the obviously distressed bird. She smiled at the beautiful creature trying to earn its trust. She held an arm out eagerly hoping the bird would fly down to her. She just hoped that his claws wouldn't tear through the sleeve of her coat. The hawk seemed to hesitate at first after having been abandoned by its previous owner. But after some more gentle coaxing it flew down and landed gently on her arm. She smiled largely at the bird.
"You and I are going to be great friends. Let's see who else we can rescue."

Fortunately, the rabbit calmed as soon as Kozel had left the clearing, and he relaxed a bit himself once he realized it was no longer struggling, even smoothing its fur down a bit in apology. "We will be out of here soon enough," he continued sheepishly as he neared where he had spotted Zharkov. "It was just one wrong way, but this area really is familiar..." Sounding a little less sure, but at least feeling safer rejoining with the Okrainan, Kozel made to call out to him once he felt more composed, then promptly lost his nerve again once he saw his companion stumble.
"Zharkov!" He hurried over, and although the other man had already recovered himself, Kozel couldn't help but fret. "Zharkov, are you alright?" Ah but, he had to admit, rather impressive he hadn't even let the hawk go as Kozel probably would have. He realized he was petting the rabbit anxiously again. "Honestly, I cannot leave you alone for a moment," Kozel tried instead, liking a good old ribbing better than this worry as he began walking ahead again.
Feeling rather sorry even if he wouldn't say it, the high-strung man focused on his, ugh, filthy shoes stepping over the curiously thicker brush and tried not to notice how soft the rabbits ears were in his fingers, hmm! It was only because of his sulking gaze that he noticed a bloodied yellow leaf on the ground, and he hesitated. Picked it up, why not. Studied first the stained front, then the back, keen on how the rabbit squirmed. Looked around at the conspicuously non-yellow trees in this wetter area. And finally, Kozel announced his verdict: "I do not like this."
He looked back at Zharkov with a frown, almost, almost wanting to tell him that this was a bad idea and a mistake and okay, they could abandon the mission to return his toy dog, then thought better of it. He could just imagine the I-told-you-so he'd get, if not worse. Exasperated, he dropped the leaf and pushed on, trying to recall if there was a creek last time they had been here. Was this still familiar, really?

"I am fine, do not trouble yourself. Just a few scratches is all." Zharkov reassured, turning to glare at the spot that had tripped him up. Honestly, he didn't think -any- of it was familiar, and was trying not to feel too fed up over tripping. "We need to watch our step. The roots get tangled beneath the leaves in some spots." He warned, ignoring Kozel's jab and following after him quietly, keeping his eyes down in order to see where he was going. They didn't need any more trip-ups. Zharkov couldn't help but smirk to himself, however. He'd -seen- the way Kozel had been petting the rabbit, and he wondered if there was more to it than just being anxious, subconscious actions. He didn't mention it at all, knowing Kozel might go off on him again, and almost bumped into Kozel after losing himself in such thoughs. "What? What is it?" Zharkov asked, peering down over the man's shoulder. "This forest plays tricks." Zharkov said simply as he watched the leaf fall back to the mud. It had been a long time since he had encountered such a place, and certainly, the magical presence was much stronger here than in any forest he'd chanced to enter back home. Not necessarily a bad thing, but he had his doubts about whether Kozel would be able to handle it much longer. And that was a good thing! Zharkov shrugged as Kozel looked back at him, a vague grin on his face to show that there was nothing they could do, and continued on as Kozel did. Try as he did to go slower, he was carefully edging around a thorn patch when misfortune struck again, and the crumbling dirt near the edge of the creek bed sent him tumbling down. A loud cry and a string of curses pierced the silence of the woods as he fell against the rocks, losing his stick and letting go of the bird in an attempt to prevent it from being crushed. The tired hawk fluttered up in a panic and landed on a rock nearby, fluffed out and startled as it watched its captor fall. Zharkov groaned, splayed over the rocky creek bed. "Dammit all. Kozel! Where are you..."
