Well, this was the last one, and boy did his hand ache. He had been snapped twice now, and counted his lucky blessings that he had gotten this far with just a little bit of scraped hands, subconsciously licking at the major damage, the saliva burning at the cuts.

He wasn't playing this time, it was the last one, and that white orb was calling his name. Taking his chance, he swooped down and grabbed it, pushing down on the soft sphere, eyebrows folded in his frustration.

It was almost obvious that he was ready to be done, when his long fingers brushed across the metal that ringed around the orb, the CLICK CLICK returning momentarily as he jerked as fast as he could, before the SNAP, his fingers getting snapped up in the mechanism one last time.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Sneering softly, he glared at the boxes that surrounded him, a small burst of pride going through his chest as he walked away, five orbs in hand, and most of his pride entact. It had been an interesting week in Conquest, and he kind of felt that he would miss it a little. It was just . . nice.

Looking down at the Heir, he gave him a smile. "Done and done, my friend." Is all he could say, as he left the orbs with him.

This part of the course would be jacking ridiculous no matter which item she had taken, unless that goo was a magical food for some kind of creature living under the ground, anyway. Because this course was filled with tiny mammal-like weasel-y things that seemed to have created a network of burrows throughout the ground. As she took a first step, and the ground crumbled under her foot, she realized that the whole thing was a mini pitfall trap. Thankfully, there wasn't far to fall, so it was more like... ankle-sprain. Which she should be able to avoid, being a ghost, and all.

That was about when the creature, whatever it was, popped up from the ground she'd just punctured and bit her on the ankle. She hissed in pain, and took a quick step back, promptly rupturing the ground just that much extra.

This was just to get to the booth. This was not even the challenge. Just a sincerely inconvenient landscape feature, apparently. Once she was at the booth, the task was this: pluck a card off of a spinning mobile fixed to the table, and hope it had a good effect written on it. She couldn't see what any of them said, so she just grabbed whatever. With a huge happy face, it said: YOU PASSED THIS ONE, YAY! d( ^ o^)b

Amarus grimaced, and headed on towards the next island. She didn't even know what "you passed" was supposed to mean, after having to forge her way through the weasel whatevers to get there.

It was the last step. The glorious last step in the challenge. Amarus had taken quite a beating, related to a confetti gun, a goat-ish clansman and a weasel infestation. Hopefully this last game would be something even bordering on harmless.

When she got to the stand, there was a big basin of water. In the bottom, there were several clams. Swimming around the clams, were something that resembled fish, but they had a murderous look in their little glassy eyes. Amarus grimaced at the fish. She tried to poke one with a lock pick, but that did not quite pan out. In fact, whatever it was devoured the lock pick.

"Here's hoping they only eat metal," she muttered. The sign beside the basin indicated that this was the GOLDEN LUCKY KEY GAME. Inside one of these clams, there was a pretty key! If she could find the key, then she was eligible to move on. What was it with locks and keys, lately? It seemed like they were everywhere. Well, this was a clan which loved its secrets.

Amarus reached into the dish, grabbed a clam, and got nothing. The first time, the fish hadn't been expecting her. The second time she reached into the basin, she had to dip down to her elbow, which was when they all started to n** at her. They didn't appear to have teeth, but the pain was enough that it felt like they would all gum her to death.

The second clam had the key, so she only had to suffer through their horrible gummy mouths the once. Once, she would like to maintain, was more than enough.

She emerged from the challenge irate, somewhat damp, and very sore. Lucky, somehow? Because technically, sure, she'd passed each challenge... but what good was a lot of luck if you kept getting injured? Maybe in the end it would do something good for her anyway.

[[OOC: FFFF PACH I'M SORRY-- the games I described her playing... while most of them involved booths... are kind of weird. I re-read the prompt after and realized it said "small games" > A>;;;; Hope this is acceptable anyway OTL The only one that really deviated was the doors one. Willow moved on to the next game, this one seemed more like.... something interesting. There were Mahjong tiles but they were set up in one of the solitaire forms, the turtle. Her tail flickered, as she looked at the tiles. It was at least not something difficult involving more players than just herself.

Her tail flickered as she picked up matches occasionally having to search for a match. It was harder when the first match she saw was under another. Causing the tiger's ears to flick in irritation, it took her a while, and almost messed up, catching herself before she ruined the game. Giving a soft sigh when she finally matched all the tiles.

Liu Hai and the Three-Legged Toad huh?? ... Faussi stared to the medallion dangling between his fingers. Well, three legs were better than two, right?? Maybe it was useful after all.

His first task was a simple game of Kumiko. It was easy enough, as he seemed pretty good at discerning scents. He guess correctly in a matter of minutes. With that handled, he moved on to his second task.

Willow set down at the next table, looking curiously at the new game in front of her. Her brow lofted as she looked at it, the directions said that to win the game you had to remove all pegs but one.

Her ears twitched as she looked at the game curiously. So... basically she couldn't screw this up or she'd lose. It'd take both luck and stagey to not ruin this. Willow played the game slowly, taking a peg and jumping over another and removing that peg. Her eyes looked around the board before jumping another, followed by another. Soon she had about half the board left, which is when she realized now she had to be careful. Any wrong moves could cost her the game.

Willow decided moving all the pieces as close to the middle as possible without going directly in the middle until last was the best solution to the puzzle. Finally the tigress managed to win the game and she grinned, on to the next!

Willow's tail flickered as she moved on towards the next game and sat down... It seemed this was a spin the wheel type of game. Her ears perked up as she looked at the wheel and the ball that apparently went on the wheel. You had to guess the color or the horse it would land on. Willow was looking at the game curiously.

It looked a lot like Ghoulette, only with the horse clans. She placed a bet on one of the horse clans, conquest, spun the wheel and then the ball around the opposite way of the wheel. Watching the wheel turn turn turn, where it stops no body knows.

Eventually the ball started to slow down; and then bouncing, plinkplinkplinkplink, plinkplink plinkplink, plink, plink, plink.... Willow couldn't watch, she closed her eyes, hoping luck would be on her side, it seemed to take forever but suddenly there was the sound of the ball stopping. An eye open and there was the ball on one of the conquest tiles. The tigress grinned, such luck! She moved on to the next game.

The second task appeared to be a table, set up with a small round ball and three upturned cups. An attendant behind the table would hide the ball in one of them, then move the cups at a rather fast pace. Faustus then had to guess beneath which the ball was hiding. Lucky him he had a good eye - he guessed appropriately the first time, moving his way along to the third area.

The third area was reserved for a-

Faussi's face drained of color.

A water game.

The boil hesitated slightly, but approached nonetheless. The trick to the game was to toss round, ornate gold rings onto bamboo platforms rising out the lily pads in the pond. He had 3 round rings to use, and must get as many as possible onto a stalk-like projection rising from the center of each platform.

Carefully, Faussi tossed his first; it landed with a loud splash far to the right beyond the platforms. Well, that was embarrassing. His second chinked off a platform to drop into the water. Faussi eyed one of the bamboo stalks nearer him, and gauged the distance, tossing his last ring.

It landed with a clatter perfectly around one of the platforms. Staring across the pond the flame demon decided that was good enough. He wouldn't be bothered to attempt it again, and so continued to his fourth "trial".

Willow's tail flickered as she sat down at the last game. It looked... old, really old. She was staring at it, there was a hand crank on the side and ponies once again. This time it was only four, they looked like scare-derby horses. Ears perking up as she saw each one looked similar to a clan. Famine, Death, Conquest, and War.

She was looking around, so to play she had to place a bet on one of the ponies. Crank the machine up, almost like a music box or a toy. She clicked her tongue as she thought before placing a bet, this time... it was on Famine... Something told her conquest might not win this race. Willow started to crank the machine and it gave a mechanical whirrring sound.

Then the ponies started to move along the circular track. Up and down and faster they went, it just took a little imagination and she was sitting there watching real ponies run. Soon the game was over, and Famine had come in second, to Conquest.... Willow's eyes widened, oh shoot. At least she still passed for coming in second.

The fourth island appeared to be covered in a lush expanse of purple flowers. The air was sickly sweet with their smell, but nowhere in sight did Faustus see any sign of a challenge. Curiously, he stepped forward, beginning to wade his way through the tall plants.

That was when he felt something tickle his foot. The boil paused, glancing down, but didn't notice anything terribly out of place. He took another step forward, feeling something wind around his foot and jerk him slightly off balance.

What in Jack's name!?? he looked down, tugged at his foot, only now realizing the roots and thorns from the flowers were twining themselves around his ankle. Jackdammit! How many times now had he wished his natural ability wasn't nullified here. Guess that's what he got for burning up countless plant-life over the years. Putting on a burst of speed Faussi broke free of the roots, dashing towards the next bridge as thorns and vines lashed out of the plant-life around him. Ducking, he rolled, barely managing to escape them as he tumbled across the bridge into the next area.

Huffing, Faustus picked himself up off the ground. Luckily he wasn't much worse for wear. This was his final obstacle, and it seemed to consist of a chained bamboo fence all around the perimeter. The bridge exit on the far size was blocked by three separate locks. Beside it stood what appeared to be a bamboo key rack holder, with five keys dangling down. The first was simple and made of copper. The second rather ornately carved, and made of what looked like pearl. The third was silver, inset with rubies, while the fourth was gold inlaid with sapphire. The final key was surprisingly made of wood. There were only three locks however. The first was surprisingly made of wood - it was obvious which key fit, and without hesitation Faustus inserted the wooden key and turned the lock.

Both the key and lock proceeded to burst into sudden flame, burning entirely away. He arched a brow. That was rather ironic.

There were still two locks to go however.

[STEP 1]

As they entered the first garden trying to prepare themselves for the tasks that Invictus had hinted about, they had become curiously perceptive in physical sensation, all their senses getting so sharp it almost caused them pain. The air was getting laden with unknown scents as if someone was burning incense, and Wylfenne was trying to analyze a strange ingredient in the perfume of the air. It was causing nausea and delirium, and yet the feeling was pleasant and alluring The fae could not recognize it, and yet it was enwrapping then as if in a cocoon, blocking the reality and the humming beehive of classmates out. And then, trapped by caressing odours and sharp smells, they fell into a reverie. If anyone had cared to look at them at the moment, the abstraction of their glance would have been obvious. But it seemed that students aroung them had lost all their power of annoyance and vexation; they could no longer even interrupt their thoughts for a moment. Gradually the pain lulled, but the mind was still lost in some distant lands. Then Wylfenne caught a curious odour, sonorous as a trumpet, spicy as a merchants bag, and they followed the scent and closed their eyes to concentrate on it....

[ step 1: -5 damage] ...and when they opened their eyes again, they found themselves in the center of a city market. The shops of perfume makers and jewelers, bootleggers and dealers in curious ware, candy stores and carts filled with various vegetables, - it all shouted and sang, promised and threatened, lured and chased Wylfenne until the whole place became so real that they had forgotten that a minute ago they were in a classroom, and had no questions about whether they actually belonged to the place.

The fae entered one of the buildings where the scent felt the strongest. The interior was dark with walls painted sober violet and green, illumined by dim bluish lights. In the center of the room - the only place where the light was bright enough - people were gambling. Wylfenne approached one of the tables and was immediately dragged into the cirle. 'Make your bet! Make your bet!'it seemed that the air itself was shrieking impatiently over the rolling roulettes, shuffling cards, coarse voices and trembling hands. From time to time yellowish coins glimpsed while being passed from one corner of the table to another, or dark iridiscent stones signed heavily when being thrown on the table. It seemed that objects here had a life of their own: WYlfenne was sure they saw cards sneering and making faces from behind somebody's fingers, the drawings on them changing as in a flash before being laid out open; the ball on the roulette moving to another slot without anyone noticing. It all made no sense, seemed purely luck based and not without a sort of mischief; and the fae wanted to walk away when somebody caught them by the sleeve and groaned right in their ear: 'Name the bet!' Caught by surprise Wylfenne muttered some number and immediately the cards started winking at her and changing their meaning, and the same voice suddenly screamed: 'Cheater!' It suddenly became very quiet, and all the eyes turned towards the fae; the voice continued accusing and cursing them. Wylfenne wanted to elbow him to make him shut up, but felt their hands were tied. Suddenly noone was interested in gambling anymore; they all surrounded the fae, staring at them with their tired bloodshot eyes, and the same voice shrieked: 'Kill her!'

Wylfenne tried to fight back, but to no avail. THe ropes were tight, it was causing them physical pain. It all happened so fast that they had no chance to explain. THe crowd was chanting: 'Cheater, cheater!' and it looked as if they were going to kill the fae on the spot, so much hatred there was in their eyes.

Wylfenne managed to kick the man who was holding her and with an enormous effort tear the rope. Now they were free, but their hands were bleeding. They continued to push their way to the door, and finally got almost to the door. The men around seemed to have lost interest; as if being manipulated, they turned and went back to the card table. The fae was free to go: they crossed the threshold. The light blinded them; but still, something was not the way it was supposed to be: the landscape out of the building has changed.

[[ well, gambling is luck-based, isn't it? Besides, getting out of the room was lucky as well...]]

The second lock was made of wrought iron. He studied it a moment before choosing the plain copper key. Inserting it into the lock, it turned, however nothing happened. He checked it again, then switched to the silver ruby-inlaid key, with no luck. What kind of game was this?? ...

Behind him, a whirring started, and glancing back Faustus found razor-sharp round gold blades eating through the ground towards him. Oh Jack!

The demon reached over, pulling at the lock, inserting and twisting each key in turn, to no avail. The whirring was getting dangerously loud in his ears, and desperate, the boil jerked at the lock, as it fell in pieces to his hands.

The sound of the saws stopped. Faustus glanced behind him to make certain they were gone. What was with these Conquest clansmen, allowing such things?? ...

There was one lock remaining.

Step 2 (unscathed)

They crossed the threshold and found themselves in a garden in bloom where foxgloves and blubells and daffodils and poppies mingled with the hazel undergrowth. But the center of the pittoresque landscape was a huge ancient cherry tree whose petals of a most eerie colour, flushed white covered the ground in a thin yet strong grasp, as if it were snow. This glorious outburst of blossos touched something very deep in Wylfenne's heart. The odor of the cherryblossom was better than any incense, and it was feeling the air with warth and hope. Under the tree a beautiful lady was sitting, dressed in royal purple and red and white; more than twelve layers of multicoloured silk were glimpsing through the holes of her sleeves. On her laps there was what Wylfenne thought to be a chess-board.

'Shall we play a game?' she addressed Wylfenne with a mischievous alluring smile and waved her hand to make them come closer.... The fae looked closely and recognized that what they mistook for a chess-board was some luck-based sort of backgammon. They approach the lady cautiously...

... But then her ghostly white face quivered with disgust and disappointment:
'Ah, but you're no man!' - and suddenly she started crubling down, breaking into pieces as if she were a porcelain doll, and the world seemed to be torn into two halves divided by a black crack. Wylfenne had nothing else to do but to enter this black uncertainty.....
