Kaede coughed at the puff of smoke that billowed about her and fanned it away with her hands. No... her father's hands. It was a success, and it was thanks to Sempai's in depth explanation. The gir... man held them out and examined them. Dark skin from working outdoors in the sun so much. Rough yet wrinkled skin with only a few veins visible. Many callouses from handling a multitude of tools. Chipped yellow nails. A hard working man's hands. Exactly the way it was retained in her memory. Even if they couldn't see each other as often as they used to, she will always remember the warmth of his hands.

Yet there was no increment in her height, because it was exactly as Sempai said: it was only a reflection. Then, sh... he looked down, at his clothes. The size L t-shirt was an extremely faded gray shirt... well, it used to be black. Sleeves had frayed edges and some of the threading was loose. And under those sleeves, where the armpits were, there were holes. The once white letters were too faint for reading, but they probably spelled out a corporation's name, one that he used to work for, from the red logo on the front. He wore pants obviously not his size, that stopped above his ankles. Probably something he wore for twenty years. His shoes - sandals were more comfortable, but a hazard in his workplace - were shimmering in the duck tape that held them together. Where as Kaede only had three sets of clothing, Shirayuki Yamato only had two.

He reached out for his ponytail, light, light brown with many white hairstrands mixed in thin from falling out. Her father never bothered to cut his hair. It was evident that trying to look fashionable, especially at this age, was not worth the money. Especially when there were other things more valuable to invest in. The rest of the Henge no Jutsu were impossible to examine, but if it was done as correctly as she assumed, there SHOULD be a tattoo of his first crush's name on his right shoulder, - from a dare, he once told her - mutton chops, and a tangled beard.

Next, would be to talk. The sound illusion portion that Sempai spoke of. Mannerisms was another self-imposed objective of this training. Her father had a deep voice, with a smoker's roughness. A low wavelength. So only a little bit of chakra should be used. If her father was here where she was standing, observing the exams... where hardly anything was going on right now, what would he be saying right now?

"Sh--sh-...
...
Sh-s**t... where are my cigs? Cough. Cough." And when he coughed, he made sure that the phlegm from tobacco build up in his lungs was audible.

No, she still couldn't talk without stuttering... the girl frowned and released her jutsu. Though it was partially because it was cussing... and it almost felt as dirty in her mouth as saying Sempai's first name. And while it was a low and rough voice, it wasn't exactly his voice. Kaede quickly glanced around and hoped no one had heard her- well, him. She was slowing getting the hang of this. And surprisingly, her usage of chakra this time didn't leave her exhausted. Perhaps if she did this enough times, her body would adjust to that burning sensation of chakra. What should she try next? Perhaps Hyuuga-san this time?

Kaede reformed her tiger seal, feeling the energy in her stomach churn and resurge. A layer, she needed to shape the layer to reflect his image...

Henge no Jutsu.

Kaede frowned. Partially to limit the amount of smoke blowing in her eyes. Mostly out of frustration at her failure. Hyuuga-san's image was not easily forgotten, especially since he was here in the meadows, in front of her. Her problem was still a matter of chakra control. She was too eager, exciting her chakra flow's wavelength to a higher state of energy, and it pushed her henge no jutsu layer farther than she had intended. It was hard to bend. Slippery, like gripping a wet soap bar. Only Hyuuga-san's left sleeve and the clan symbol on his back was visible in this henge no jutsu attempt.

Kaede immediately dispelled it, not wanting to look at yet another failure any longer than she had to. And she didn't want Hyuuga-san to see this incompetency either. He might be offended by her poor depiction of him.

Practice.

Sempai said this was a matter of practice. Even if she was almost down to half of her limited chakra reservoir. The girl had to try again, if she ever wanted to be considered as worthy of a candidate as the students taking this genin exam. This needed to be as natural as instinct. Until the girl no longer had to think about what she was doing or need to do. Because once it was put to practical use, she would be too busy trying to think about how to mimic the mannerisms of the person's appearance she assumed. Kaede slapped her cheeks with her hands and took a deep breath.

Kaede squinted down at her tiger seal, double checking to make sure it was symmetric. When she was satisfied with her finger's alignment, the child slowly coaxed out chakra from her stomach, like a thread from its spool, pleased that at least she had nailed down. But to get it to surround her body while maintaining that steady pace... well, that was another matter.

Henge no Jutsu.

The result was unfruitful, as not even the explosion of smoke that cued the henge no jutsu occurred. The girl clutched her stomach... feeling an empty pain. This sensation was not the same burning and muscle tightening pain of hunger. No, Kaede has felt hunger a few times to know that this was not exactly the right symptoms. That intensity of heat singed her skin and her insides and her fingers and her vessels too. It meant that she was edging closer to chakra exhaustion. Law of entropy says this meant that her use of her chakra wasn't efficient enough and the useless energy was dissipating as thermal energy. Useless girl.

Inhale.
Exhale.
Inhale.

And once she reached it, there would be that familiar sharp prickling pain Kaede hated oh so, so much. About... half of her chakra reserves were available. Maybe a little less than that. Energy friction. She was too forceful in trying to erect the layer around her body, putting too much chakra into Hyuuga-san's form. Patient. She needed to be patient like Hyuuga-san not just in mannerisms, but to let the chakra envelope her naturally. He was not as tall as her father, so the wavelength only needed to be long. And Hyuuga-san's clothes and his eyes are white so they'd be reflecting all of light's wavelengths.

'Remember the steps you took when you got it right the first time. Remember how a proper Henge no Jutsu felt like. Come on Shirayuki.'

Kaede bit her lip, and tried to stand straight. 'Ignore the pain... you are going to become a shinobi are you not, Shirayuki?' Even if she hadn't started the henge no jutsu yet, Hyuuga-san would not slouch. He was from a noble clan. It was not fitting for his image. Imitate his mannerisms. His patience. The hands forming her tiger seal trembled from the tension her chakra flow was putting on her fingers. A trail of sweat rolled down her cheek. Slowly... Let the chakra envelope her slowly.

Henge no Jutsu.

The smoke cleared, and he tugged at his bangs so sh... he could examine their color in the morning light. It was Hyuuga-san's very dark blue hair color. looked down at his hands and clothing with a frown. Pale skin, though slightly tanner than Kaede's and long elegant fingers. Hands she imagined could play some other beautiful instrument. Noble's hands. He clenched and unclenched them, trying to ignore the desire to whimper from the chakra burning them from inside. 'Hyuuga-san would not whimper.' No, while it was close to the Hyuuga-san in her mind, it wasn't completely accurate... his shirt wasn't the exact kind of blue being reflected. She would have to "tune" the lightwaves.

He closed his eyes. Hyuuga-san was like half-note d. Resonating from... a cello. Slow, peaceful, and a hint strength to it. Kaede bit her lip, she needed a navy blue. More color. A little more chakra. Looking back at the shirt, his lips twitched at the success. But it wasn't the sort of smile that Hyuuga-san would have, it was Kaede's.

Kaede dispelled the henge no jutsu, wrinkling her nose and eyes at the smoke. Then, when the girl was sure she no longer assumed Hyuuga-san's appearance, she allowed herself to display her weakness. She collapsed to her knees and took deep breaths. Sweating. It was starting to feel like a flow of lava in her chakra vessels. Closer, she was getting closer to mastering this jutsu... to the point where if this next attempt was successful, tuning the wavelengths would be unnecessary. Who should she try next...? The girl glanced around the field. No, she already did Senju-san, and she just did Hyuuga-san. There was Hyuuga-sama, and Sempai, but no... She dare not try to imitate their ethereal beauty. Her petty abilties would not do them any justice.

She glanced at Sempai's student. Kaede did not know even his name or his mannerisms, so all the girl would be able to imitate this time would be his appearance. No, it's okay... she could try to resume that part of the training later.

The tiger seal shakily reformed, and dark brown eyes frowned at the boy in concentration. 'Ignore the pain, Shirayuki. You may have less than half of your chakra reserves but it should be enough for another henge no jutsu attempt.'

Henge no Jutsu.

He looked down at his pale skin, pleased that it matched with the frequency of the authentic person. It was too bad there wasn't any way for a person to look directly at oneself without a Byakugan. It would be nice to see if the face and the hair was nailed down correctly. What was discernible, however was that Sempai's pupil was left-handed, and so he opted to move his pouch from his right side to his left as well. Hrm... it would be rather rude to assume someone's appearance and not get to know his name or his tone.

She nervously approached the other boy, "Uhm... g-good morning."

It must feel strange to see a reflection of himself, see a shy little girl's mannerisms attached to it, and to hear her voice.

The illusion peeled off however, as Kaede could not keep up the layer any longer. Pain, she was getting oh so near to chakra exhaustion. The girl shook her hands, hoping it would also shake off the heat. It would be a while before Kaede could proceed to another jutsu. Perhaps she should try learning something that didn't require chakra next? Now that she was back in her own dirty appearance, it would be more appropriate to introduce herself more properly. If it was Sempai's pupil, surely he wouldn't be so judgmental of her family background.

"I... I'm Shira
y-yuki... Kaede. Uhm, pleased t-to meet y-you." the girl faced the boy and bowed. Then, the girl did the same for Hyuuga-sama.

'She is even more beautiful up close... Sempai is wrong. This woman is more refined than I will ever be, a true princess. No, perhaps a queen. Hyuuga-sama is a whole league of her own.'

It would take a thousand reincarnations before the girl could even hope to imitate such grace. It was not a statement out of inferiority, but admiration and awe. Hyuuga-sama and Sempai were not just some vague concept in a book she would try to imagine. Tangible. Real nobles. She was actually able to talk front of real nobles. And perhaps the girl had grown so used to talking to males, like her father, or Miharo-sensei, or S-senju-san, or Hyuuga-san, that it was more awkward to be around her own gender. Kaede nervously twitched. How was one supposed to talk or act around a fair woman? Looking to her father would not be helpful this time.

Tairu took a quick nervous glance at their proctor. Alright here it goes!. "You see we have to retrieve a statue and after discussing it with the others I thought it would be best to ask you first." Tairu leaned in a little closer to Zephyr so that he could whisper, "It's a golden Senju statue of a... your ... um.. grandfather displaying his chest area, and I wanted to know if you had a key to the statue that you could give me or if you could at least get me and the others to the statue?

Tairu thought about it for a moment and then said, "If you help us get the statue I'll do your paper work for a week!"

But to Saito's words, Yokou chuckled. Pores...? She had taught Students of her clan before, and had once instructed village pre-Academy Students on chakra basics. But, release from the pores of all things...she had heard such things as veins, arteries, heart (which was correct in a roundabout way), even from respiration, but well...she had to admit that Saito was a lot closer than the general answers she was accustomed to receiving.

"Chakra is released from the tenketsu nodes on the chakra system, Saito-kun." She gently corrected. "Because chakra is metaphysical in nature, it can leave our bodies without physical channels. All living things contain chakra, yet as we live, we lose chakra in turn. A cycle returns to a cycle...chakra can escape from anywhere throughout the system, but mostly from the tenketsu, and the tenketsu nodes are thus the main targets of chakra control."

There was a slight pause.

"No...organs do not transfer chakra itself. They are the mechanisms that houses chakra lines, protecting them...but think of the chakra lines as akin to the soul's attachment to the body. They to the organs are connected, yes, conversely related so - damage to one will damage the other - as well noted too from the ability granted by the Genjutsu arts to inflict wounds not only on just the mind, but the body to develop such wounds as well. So it isn't the organs themselves, but the tenketsu, which you are to target in harnessing energy."

She gestured to his hands, and then downcasted her gaze, to his feet. "Because the greatest amounts of chakra is closest to the center of the body, the nodes of the central chakra source are harder to command mastery of. It is like the medium necessary for the Suiton field...of controlling the calmer waters of rivers, to mastery over the wild sea. Because the hands and feet are among the nodes farthest from the central chakra source, they are the most oft used in harnessing and molding chakra from the raw energies of the body and mind in chakra consumption. (When we are to recover chakra, it is then the opposite, and so we focus from the center.) But...by taking the simpler method of harnessing control, over the vast ages, the power to control all three-hundred and sixty-one nodes of the body had been mostly lost."

There was no need to currently complicate matters with an off-tangent explanation of Hyuuga's deviation.

To Saito, she said: "Why don't you try the Henge again now?"

As the girl her Sensei was speaking to approached them, Yokou was faintly glad that Kaede did not seem to recognize her. After all, earlier in the village, the child had been in hysterics, and perhaps had been too overwhelmed to note anything else...hopefully. Perhaps greatly surprising Kaede, instead of settling for her usual slight inclination of the head - an almost nod - as a gesture of acknowledgment and respect, Yokou took a step forward, held her left hand resting above her plain kimono's sash and the right hand held forward - palm facing in - held a little distance before the left, the sleeves of her simple black yukata moving to follow the gesture.

And then, just a gentle - the slightest - bending of the knees...

A courtly bow of the Oriental nations, almost akin to the curtsies of the Western nations.

"I am honored." She paused.

"Yuuko Hyuuga."

As Tairu talked, Zephyr listened, and seemed to follow 'umhmn, umhmn' and an almost-sagely nod to every clause or pause in the boy's words. When the boy was done, there was a long silence, and before remembering that he was expected to talk, to give some sort of answer...a long silence lingered in the meadows. At first, nothing seemed wrong with the innocent silence - surely, it would've been expected, even, as he was to give an answer...

And that was THEN when it clicked.

The expression of shock that came across his face perhaps would normally have been extremely comical to note. But then again, Tairu was on business, and laughing might more possibly break his chances of persuading the Juugodaime to...

"...rob...my...house...?"

...to yes, offer aid in robbing his own house.

The words came out slowly, hesitantly, almost in partial-disbelief. For a long moment, they stayed, fallen to silence once again, as the Juugodaime all the sudden became very convinced either in general the Hyuuga line has grown even more blunt over the years, or was it just that Tairu really did grow another head, or perhaps worse, needed to pay a visit to the hospital's mental ward...

But he somehow gathered the courage to break the uncomfortable silence.

"Ok, let me get this straight." There was a hesitant pause. "I am not even going to ask why my house is part of the Genin Exams, but that aside, you need to obtain something from the Senju compound, and thus, requires my aid...hold it, wait-what...!?" And then, the full weight of Tairu's words sunk in. The look of surprise on his face, shifted to one of utter horror...

Oh, dear heavens...he remembered THAT statue, all right. That monstrosity-...wait a moment, but he remembered clearly disposing of it! Didn't he bury it? Unless...unless some clansman...don't tell him someone rescued that-that! That...thing! His eyebrow twitched, followed by a twitch of the corner of his mouth. And then, the image of that stupid thing just had to clearly display itself in his mind...damn the Fifth Dawn that he had this annoying penchant to remember things, damn them to hell and back...

His eyes rolled back - in horror - as the golden image of his shirtless old man flexing and displaying his muscles and hard-earned six pack crossed his mental eye. This time, he wasn't even upset enough to bemoan his own lack of masculine endowment (again, he cursed the Fifth Dawn, thus their blame, for the fact that he was eternally stuck in the transitioning age to adult-hood). But, more importantly...! Why is that THING still around!! Zephyr threw his hands to his head, clawing at his hair, and - for one of the rare moments in life - wailed:

"Wha...what do you mean that THING is...even still around!?!? I-I...thought I got rid of it!!!"

Ten years may have been a long time, but grandfather or not, he didn't need to see his old man's six pack shining in (here his mind sarcastically provides an image of the statue, gracing the clan entrance hall as he remembered the room)...or even shrine perhaps now, considering the old sage's ego... Anyways, that's not the point! He did NOT need to see the old man's muscles on his first day home!!! And certainly not every morning, and day, afterwards!!!

Perhaps others would've seen the quick-changing emotions on Zephyr's face as a sure sign of bipolarity. Because, almost as quickly, his face went from horror to pure determination. His face went determined, with a small pout that was almost cute, as his right fist struck his open left palm in a gesture of decision.

"For my aid, I only demand one thing...t-that...that plague must be...INCINERATED!"

"If you help us get the statue, after we pass the Genin exam I'll make sure that you never see the statue again, just like you asked." Tairu said with a big smile. Alright good, hopefully Rhaim and Tenma will be in position when we get to the estate. Saito looked up, his excitement of his success short lived. The boy smiled, he liked hearing about what she said.

He had deduced that chakra was rather physical... or all physical. But this aspect she described... it was an insight he hadn't understood before. The boy finally nodded as she hinted to wards the Henge.

Henge-- this jutsu was so simple, yet it was so useful. It was a ninja's ability to use stealth. It was crucial to master this technique.

The boy didn't need to frustrate over this. He could do well to take his time and learn to do the Henge. He noticed Kaede do it earlier. She didn't give herself and credit. She wasn't bad.

He scoffed a bit to himself and looked down. Yokou was waiting. The boy imagined the writings on the scroll, thinking of the descriptions and explicit directions. Reflection and refraction of light through a coat of chakra. Simple enough--

"I understand..", he simply replied, eyes slowly closing.

He sighed. Getting on his knees for this next jutsu. He needed some chakra back...

"That's sufficient I suppose...", the young student muttered as he stood up, his hands coming together, his palms perfectly symmetrical. His hands moved to his forehead, he continued to regulate his breath. His body was falling apart.

It was alright, he'd come to terms with it. He wasn't going to give in, he didn't see the logic behind it.

This Henge-- he wondered who made it. This idea was rather simple, but well made. It seems ninja still use it, though he was sure there was a skill to it like every jutsu. He wondered...

Who would he transform to?

He smirked. Well, it didn't really matter. Anything would suffice. He'd transform to the Yondaime Hokage, Minato Namikaze. The man invented jutsu, he was a scholar as much he was a brilliant ninja. He liked him, he respected the man. He had given his life for his village. He wondered if he ever thought about it--

No. The only thing he would've been worried about was stopping the natural disaster, not his life.

"Henge No Jutsu!", he proclaimed, his eyes widening, if only a bit.

Zephyr didn't even notice the young Hyuuga's wide grin, excitement at that his plan had succeeded so easily, so fortunately...

However, at the moment, his opinion was quite of the contrary, and the Juugodaime could hardly care of anything but freedom - no, liberation - from the multiple images of the same statue that were now moving along conveyor belts before his mind's eye... Terrifyingly enough, he swore, one of the goddamned statues of his grandfather must've opened its *fanged mouth certainly, displaying a wickedly evil grin, and his old man's laughter would echo like Satan's delighted chuckles in the deepest recesses of his mind.

Che. And people tell him that HE was evil...

So, greatly impatient already, Zephyr looked at the boy demandingly. "Well?" He said, the mantra that flowed through his head going something along the lines of that 'as soon as he gets rid of that damned statue for good, the better'. The fine hairs stood on end: not in front of his face (yet) that statuette may be, but it horrified him to even remember that thing...who in their right mind would commission such a thing!?

Besides, it wouldn't be like the old man is still around...right...?

Surely, he must be doing a good deed...certainly at least one clansman (other than him) would want it gone, right? That's right, nobody will miss that monstrosity of "art". And then, he can place a life-size statue of himself in that particular statuette's place.

Just to spite the old man, but of course. At least his wouldn't terrify guests.

Shirayuki Kaede - Academy Student

Theme: Não Chora Menina

LV. 2 | Experience: 44/110 | Hp: 16/16 | Cp: 1/6 | MHp: 24/24

Oh deaaar. This was an extremely awkward turn of events. Kaede honestly didn't expect the other woman to respond to her introduction at all. It might be because the woman's sensei had bothered to speak with her, that Hyuuga-sama was being courteous to someone such as herself. That must be it. But now that the woman was responding to her, perhaps... should she dare ask...?

"Uhm... uhm. F-forgive me for asking f-for your time, Hy-hyuuga-sama. C-could you... uhm... inform S-senju-san for me, after th-the exams are over, that I h-have completed my Henge n-no Jutsu assignment? And th-that I will wait f-for him at the library?"

Kaede didn't really want to bother the woman any longer than she needed to. And while the girl was able to complete the rest of her Henge no Jutsu training on her own, it was only because Sempai had bothered to explain the workings of the jutsu. She was still a fledgling learning the basics, and so she would need a source to guide her. Hyuuga-sama, Sempai, and Senju-san were out of the question. The only other substitute for a person would be scrolls and books.

"..."

What should she say now? Was "Hyuuga-sama" the appropriate way to address a lady? Maybe a Hyuuga-hime? Kaede really, really doesn't know how she should present herself in front of a fellow female. Um... Oh, yeah, she almost forgot.

"I th-thought you should know, he-he hates being called S-senju-san or sempai. He pr-prefers... T-tai..."

"T..."

"T-tai...
ju."

It was like trying to pronounce a foreign word. Strange. But he had insisted on it so she would try... try to get used to it. Someday. Maybe when she was as old as her father.

"If n-not, and you have m-much more pressing issues a-at hand, I underst-stand. Uhm... thank y-you for hearing me out. I sh-shall take my leave n-now, Hyuuga-sama," the girl bowed three times, to outdo the woman's courtesy, though more out of the desire to affirm Kaede's inferior status rather than competition.

Turning to the boy at her side, she bowed her head as well, "G-good luck with y-your training, s-sir."

He never bothered to offer his name, or acknowledge her but that was okay. There was no real obligation to, especially when it was someone insignificant like her. Especially when she hasn't done anything to really deserve it. Kaede frowned. Really, she was used to it...

"E-excuse me." The girl turned around and walked off, her pace a little quicker than usual.

He slowly bowed his head. He felt the chakra leave and tried to quickly form it. He almost felt it go off, but it was in vain.

He wasted it.

His hands to fell to his side is he felt beaten once more. The pain of constantly failing was much worse than the chakra being pumped out of him. Saito huffed, crossing his arms, looking up at Yokou.

He simply shook his head in disappointment. The boy slowly let his arms part once more as he put them together. He felt his chakra was a bit more flexible than earlier.

It'd better be, he'd passed out trying to expand it.

This Henge... it felt rather complex however, in the moment he let his chakra let run wild, he attempted to form a curtain, but it was slippery--

No. He couldn't explain it. It escaped him. He couldn't hold it in place. Could it be that he didn't focus?

Images of the scroll appeared into his mind. He did it right-- his control of his chakra was just weak. No wonder Konoha was such a powerful village. Their expectations were rather impressive.

"Well?"

Tairu was a little confused at first but then he said "Oh right it's this way!" as he pointed out the clearing towards the Senju estate. "Like I said the other two are already there so we should hurry up before they think I was killed or something." The only problem now was that Tairu knew he was going to have to act like a monkey when the two of them approached Tenma and Rhaim. This is not going to be fun. Tairu thought dismally. At least we'll have the statue soon enough. Taiur really did wonder weather or not his plan for all three of them to pass was really going to work.
