Books and libraries and nonsense galore! Esben’s stubborn temper was slowly beginning to take over as Julie espoused how necessary these places were to keep track of legends and stories. Personally, he didn’t believe it! While his clan maintained some records of events and such, there were hardly that many. And everyone he’d ever met seemed to remember the legends and stories just fine without looking at them!
"Pah! Keep your books! They sound like too much work! Probably get eaten by a dragon all the time you’re wastin’!" Esben stated and with that gave an affirmative nod that seemed to indicate that he was very much done with the discussion of books and their importance to the world. He didn’t need them to keep track of the stories and since he could write, he certainly didn’t need to write anything either! It was just a waste of time for him. Tragic.
"Yuck!" Esben faked a gagging noise and crinkled his nose at Julie’s defense of vegetables. "Veggies are terrible! It’s meat that helps you grow!" He seemed to think a moment before continuing, "the only good veggie is a potato!" A potato was a veggie right? It totally was. "Nuh uh! They can’t! Mine are tougher!" This was the second time he’d met another child who doubted the strength of his pokemon! They didn’t even fight dragons, what did they know?!
Blinking he frowned before taking a moment to scoop up Flef and follow Julie, only for the girl to turn right back around into the corn maze. "Wha… wouldn’t we have seen him though?" Was this corn maze really that big? That was crazy. "Well where would he go? We should cut the corn down to find him faster!"
Flef got in an excited chirp as the two grass starters conversed, looking between the two and repeatedly chirping ‘Teegs! Teegs!’ before Esben scooped him up and away. Teeg looked startled at this, watching as their trainers ran off and moving to follow along with the bears, glancing at Chico as she did. ’Oh! He did? That’s odd,’ The Turtwig tilted her head a bit in thought, ’I don’t think Flef knows other pokemon. I’m sorry! Chico is a nice name though! ’ She chimed, trying to perk the situation up, though looked a bit confused as they re-entered the maze again.

[ "Yeah, I'd l-like that." ]Even if he felt overwhelmed, Dune really really didn't want to hold Chickpea back, or make things not fun. He felt a sliver of fear that his new friend, who seemed to have so much energy, would get held back by someone like himself. But he did want to do all sorts of fun things with Chickpea. So if he had to push himself... well, that was okay, right?
Maybe he should start right now. He wanted to say sorry for the trouble, since he felt bad about having to get taken care of, and carried up the steps (which had been a huge help actually). But maybe he should say a joke? Erm. [ "I'm j-just glad I didn't have to climb those stairs!" ] Oh no that wasn't a joke.
Jun wasn't sure why, but he smiled as Christian cheerfully bombarded the attendant. Maybe it was the difference between what his experience had him expecting and what he got, or maybe it was just the look on the attendant's face.
He did catch Ledian watching him, and pointedly looked at her to make her stop. He wasn't sure what sort of thoughts the bug was having but it was weird to think she was having any about him. He was used to his pokemon being straightforward fighters that followed orders, not this. This way now was better, even if Ledian was a bit unnerving.
Of course, technically Ledian and Dune weren't even 'permanent' members of the team. It'd be a shame for Dune to say goodbye to Chickpea, they seemed to like each other. It was... actually pretty cute.
"I had a totodile once," Jun said, after Christian had finished up. He really wasn't sure why he'd said it, because explaining what had happened to her would be awkward and wasn't something he wanted to do EVEN THOUGH SHE'S TECHNICALLY STILL IN HIS PAAAARTY LMAO. "Sometimes I can still hear her voice."
"Yeah, maybe we will win this time." Jun said moments before royally ******** up the very first part of the baking contest not once but twice.
In his defense, it wasn't his fault the bottom of the four bag dropped out, splattering him with flower. He may have had something to do with the chunks of eggshell swirled in with the flour- no wait s**t that was sugar okay Ok here we go. Jun carefully wiped off his arms, though the apron he wore was still covered in a white-powder bomb. "So. You said something about winning this thing?"
Chickpea nodded his head, so vigorously he might've given himself a concussion, and even chuckled afterwards. "Yeah, the stairs were tough," he agreed. He'd only just gotten his breath back, though that might've been because he had been talking this entire time, instead of catching his breath. "Next time, we should get both our trainers to carry us up stairs!"
Chickpea was glad to leave the house, especially when it seemed that he'd be getting a new friend in that weird Totodile his trainer had picked up, and it showed. He gasped gently when he saw where it was they were heading next: a totally non-scary, exciting activity. "We're making food again!" he gushed, then spun around to look at Dune, just to make sure that he was aware of what was going on. "Let's help this time, just like we talked about!" They'd mash up ingredients, and grab... ingredients, and do all the stuff needed to make yummy food!

Only a few hours into his first day of being a trainer, and already he had two pokemon; Ad would be so proud! He'd have to name this newest addition, and with this in mind Christian snapped his fingers at the pokemon, indicating that an idea had just been formulated. "I dub thee: Watercress!" he exclaimed, in flashy glory. "Cress for short." 'Cress' stared at Christian, gaze occasionally drifting to Jun, but eventually she waddled a short distance away and giggled.
Alright, cool.
"Look at us, having the same pokemon." Christian, keeping one eye on Cress, raised an eyebrow to Jun. There he went again, referring to someone in the past-tense. This time, Christian knew better than to ask about what had happened to Jun's pokemon. Though, he had said something else that'd piqued his interest... "She could talk?"

Julie rolled her eyes and huffed, her arms folding over her chest. Jeez! Esben sure was a dumb stubborn head, wasn't he? There was no getting through that thick head of his. Maybe his claims about a warriors skull was accurate, after all... she'd have to keep an eye out ofr any time he got hit on the head to see, just to be sure. And in the meantime, she'd try and show him the IMPORTANCE OF READING, whenever they got a chance.
Julie shook her head. "Potatoes are delicious but you're WRONG, Esben! Yer li'l finger is as weak as a carrot! You practically ARE a vegetable!" she claimed, making no actual, logical sense whatsoever. But, well.... she's seven. She narrowed her eyes at him in a challenge, before running out of hte maze, but the matter of battling very quickly melted away with another concern. She glanced impatiently back at Esben as he questioned her conclusion.
"He went around to the front, Esben! We wouldn'ta seen him t here!" she pointed out, as if this were obvious, and definitely correct. Maybe he was trying to scare her again.... or maybe he was worrying, since she and Chico had been gone for so long. Speaking of, Chico looked at Teeg and Flef, but reflexively started when Esben suddenly scooped the latter up, before looking to Teeg, and hurrying to keep up. "Yeah.... Hm. Is he a baby...?" he asked, looking a little uncomfortable and flustered at the compliment. He wasn't really sure how to respond ot that....

Esben's face went a bright red at Julie's statement. "I AM NOT!" He shouted louder than necessary and just to prove his point, stepped forward and gave her a bit of a shove. "Least I'm not dumb like a vegetable!" He didn't like being called names (even if they made no sense!), especially ones that implied he was weak and had half a mind to maybe even throw a punch just to prove that he totally wasn't weak. If they hadn't started moving to try and find Torin, it might've escalated even further. But there wasn't a chance so it was okay.
The viking huffed., "Julie we came through the front, you dumb!" He pointed. They totally hadn't gone all that far after all, right? "We should just cut through the corn and stop wasting time!" He maneuvered Flef under one arm and loosened his axe from it's holster to hold in one hand. "Move over! I'll find him faster!" And without hesitation, the boy literally started hacking down chunks of corn stalks like it was an okay thing to do.
Teeg tilted her head a bit as the followed after their trainers, though not before giving Chico a bit of a friendly smile. 'I don't know! I think so, he doesn't say much. Have you met a lot of babies before?' She inquired. Flef was probably the first pokemon she'd met who seemed younger than her? And it was a bit weird to consider.

As optimistic as Christian had been about their chances, Jun's... slip-ups were certainly putting a wrench in their plan. Still, he kept a cheerful attitude, which was doable when he saw Jun douse himself in flour; the shoe was on the other foot now. "You trying to copy me?" he teasingly asked, grabbing his own bowl and carefully adding the ingredients into it; a few were even handed to him by Chickpea, what a helpful little pokemon.
"I still believe in us -- we've got this!" Christian insisted, then handed Jun the new batter, the one without egg shells. "We've just gotta be more careful, and make a comeback during the decorating phase." Which... would come after they managed to get their cake out of the oven; hopefully this one wouldn't burn.

Julie scrunched up her face and balled up her little fists at Esben's shove and declaration. She was TOTALLY READY TO FIGHT, and she would have, probably, but there were more important matters to attend to. Like her brother, though Esben's calling her a 'dumb' did make her shoot another mean look in his direction, and stick out her tongue. "No we didn't Esben! We went all the way through, how else-- hey!" She jumped, startled as he pulled out an axe, and lunged to try and grab his arm. "Stop that, Esben! That's not a good idea! We'll get kicked oouuuttt! And then you won't ever find your dragon slayer!" she whined, panicking a bit. Plus what if he accidentally hacked into Torin or her pokemon!?!
Chico shook his head. "Not a lot, no. I... hey... h-hey! Is he supposed to be doign that!?" Chico, too, got distracted from his conversation with Teeg as he noticed Esben's actions, and leaped forwards, vines slithering out in preparation to attack, razor leaves at the ready. He wasn't sure, though.... Julie was pretty close, and even though she didn't seem happy about what he was doing, he wasn't sure he should go and attack his trainer's new... well, let's say company, for now.

Dune might have thought that Chickpea probably had a really hard time getting up the stairs with those short legs. But Dune didn't have legs, so any stubs for walking seemed helpful. Making their humans carry them was a way better idea anyways, though. [ "Hehe, that's a good idea." ] Chickpea was good at cheering him up.
Dune perked up. The making food thing? That was exactly what he wanted to do! [ "It's like they read my m-mind!" ] He shuffled excitedly after the humans. [ "H-how do we get up there?" ] He nudged Jun's legs a bit, and totally didn't bother the guy at all or maybe cause some fumbling or...anything like that.
"What? No," Jun said, pausing in his disaster of a baking attempt to answer Christian's ludicrous statement. That's what he got out of it? "She would just make, you know. Totodile noises." He raised a flour-covered hand, making an alligator face and motioning it open and closed like it was yapping, for emphasis.
Jun took the new bowl from Christian, sighing. Baking may not be his specialty, but he still wasn't crazy about ******** up so royally while Christian breezed through it all. "A-ha-ha, yeah, that's what I'm doing." At least it wasn't like Christian had done a great job the first time. He was glad that the flour hadn't gotten on his coat. Or his hair. At least, he hoped none had gotten in.
"You sure you trust me to put this in the oven?" he stated dryly. As if that were something he'd muck up. At least, he was pretty sure that after the last time he had a better idea of when to take them out of the oven.
Esben stopped in his wild hacking of the corn (having only downed a few stalks, they were thick, and he was now duly aware that his axe was on the dull side) and gave Julie a confused look. "Why would we get kicked out? They’re probably going to harvest this stuff soon anyways!" He huffed, jerking his arm and axe away from the girl as she flung herself at him to get him to stop. "Nuh uh! I bet the dragon slayer is helpin’ to harvest! That’s why he walked into this place! That or there are dragons that need slayin’! They might be hidin’!"
Teeg blinked and looked startled at Chico’s response, turning her attention to the pair of children. She was uncertain what was going on and shuffled forward a bit, concerned with Chico’s response. ’Ah wait! What are you doing, please don’t hurt him!’ She chimed, putting herself between Chico and the kids just a bit. She wasn’t attempting to completely block him or anything, but it certainly didn’t need to escalate into fighting. Byr appeared though, clearly blocking and huffed at the Chikorita with as threatening a look he could muster. ’Hey! What do ya think yer doin’?!'

Julie rolled her eyes and threw her hands up. "No they're not, Esben! THis is a corn maze! You're s'posed ta find yer way through it and get prizes 'n stuff! It's fun! They harvest the corn after the carnival!" she declared, before giving him a light poke, "Ya dumb." She didn't quite mean it harsh, but, ewll... he called her it first, so. "THe dragon slayer is prolly helpin' find lost kids or somethin'! Or they're using the maze to get their own prizes to help them defeat the next dragon lord!" she decided, her overactive imagination quickly kicking back into gear. Whether she believed that was... not really important. It was a fun idea, and if it made Esben stop hacking corn down.... Then it was definitely worth it.
[ Chico re-entered the maze to find Julie again, for a total of the fourth and final time! (At least as far as getting prizes goes) He progresses 10 feet 2/3 And is 40ft in! Plushies: 10
