Mnemosyne Moneta Dionysus or Bacchus Bah, rumors only. Yes she is quite the understanding one, considering all the trouble I went through to gain her immortality. Is that true? Harmonia and Cadmus ↓ Semele ↓ Dionysus
Cadmus is brother to: Europa ↓ Minos ↓ Ariadne Let me tell you, her being my second cousin isn't as bad as some relationships I've seen. Actually, for an Olympian, it's hardly incest at all.

Zeus and Hera are brother and sister, for instance. Incest doesn't seem to be a problem for us gods...well okay, so a few of us did come out funny, but that's different. rolleyes

I bet Hephaestus isn't even bad-looking by human standards. Next to the gods, maybe, but he'd be attractive to a human.

Well, two things wrong with that. Firstly, incest doesn't explain why Hephaistos came out wrong, because he was the son of Hera without father. She created him as a response to Zeus having sired Athena seemingly without mother. But since Athena's mother was Metis, Hera's offspring really WAS born of one parent. And she lacked the creative power of Zeus (Phanes), so her attempt at parthenogenic birth was a bit defected.
And Hephaistos is supposed to be ugly by human standards, since gods aren't necessarily more beautiful than humans (some women and even one MALE was more beautiful than Aphrodite).
I think Ares or Mars was referring to the likes of Kerberos, the Kyklopes and the Harpiai.

Really? I remember having this conversation with you before... Ages ago on MSN, where we were both in agreement about Hephaestus probably not looking as bad as people seem to think he did. His lameness was more attributed to the lead poisoning that blacksmiths got back in those days that made them look sicklier.

Not sickened, scarred. But my point was that the lead poisoning is what inspired the myth of the lame smith, not that Hephaistos actually was lead poisoned. Generally speaking, his deformities were probably skin related, as he acquired his crippled state after being thrown from Mount Olympos. Normally a god wouldn't suffer a permanent injury, but he was raised as a human without nektar or ambrosia or the ministrations of Paion, the healer of the gods, so it was likely too late for him by the time he was mature.

I can't imagine, even by falling off Olympus, and being raised human but actually a god, that he would still be THAT bad. Scars, all right... Well, scars can look pretty damn awesome sometimes. Anyway, I'm pretty sure he doesn't look quite like Quasimoto.
