"My two-legger is actually out hunting right now. She's going to have a pleasant surprise when she comes back in the morning. Hopefully she's alright though." Aurorealis paused, "That coyote has been long dead. I doubt it was the one that destroyed our village. Who would kill another animal just for its skin? He seems to wear it like a prized possession..." Aurorealis shrugged slightly. "And I have a funny feeling.. That it is not a kalona..."

"If she was out hunting, I am sure she is fine. The village seems to be the only area affected- I live in the forest, and nothing was damaged there." Inali frowned sligtly, staring at the coyote pelt. "He wears it like the two-leggers wear their strange garments. I don't understand. Maybe it's magical." As quickly as she said that, Inali laughed at the idea. How silly! A magical human skin. "The thing that destroyed half the village? It was no kalona. That is not their style of violence- if they wished to make trouble, they would go directly against the soquili. Their way isn't as messy as marking things as well... I'm frightened." Shivering, the red mare tried to gather herself.

.[ paramekia ].
"You - you are alright!" He breathed a sigh of relief and took a few moments to briefly examine the state of the village before giving a shake of his head, he couldn't say he was completely horrified as though he had already experienced some form of utter destruction in his life but the scent of blood and desecration were just...

"You were not here were you?" He enquired darkly as he glanced around, "Nothing hurt you, touched you?" He continued, narrowing his eyes as he glanced at the weary eyes of Yei and Nagual - had those two actually slept last night?

"Where are you staying?"
Tifa smiled happily and nodded. "Yes I'm fine. And no I wasn't here when... this happened." She paused, "I was sleeping in the teepee and then saw Chitsa and Aurorealis rush out of the tent. I heard a commotion in the village and decided to go investigate." She paused and remembered that her little companion wasn't here... "And I can't find Cait Sith. I don't know where he is. I thought he left with me..."

Muttering as he wandered back to the teepee, Cait Sith was not happy. Firstly, Tifa woke him up when she ran outside and then dragged him partially along the way and then drops him! And his crown almost fell off his head! He would have to scold her when she got back... He wasn't interested in what was going on in the village so went back to sleep.

The crows.

Regal and formidible looking even in the vulnerability of sleep, it was the manic cawing of the crows that roused him. His eyes snapped open, his pupils narrowing to razor-thin verticle slits amid a see of blazing emerald. "Why are they sounding? It must be one of us...feeding."

Very few beings, human and soquili alike, understood the true nature of the kalona. He'd seen terror in the eyes of the two-leggers princess when their paths had crossed. She knew the truth. Beyond the gruesome appearance and unapologetic carnivorism, the secret appetite of the Kalona was for the souls of living creatures.

But as far as he knew, and due to the roguish nature of his kind that wasn't very far, none of them would be...especially at this early hour. Soul devouring was a treat best savoured in the dark of night. So the question remained...what was making the crows caw?

He pulled himself briskly onto his hooves and shook the lingering vestiges of sleep off with a shudder. Something was not right, and he could feel it. Calamity, from the moment of his birth into the world, had always felt an innate sense of mastery and control over his surroundings.

For the first time in his life, Calamity was uneasy.

...

Choteka watched the growing flurry of excitement in the heart of neighboring village from the stillness and quite of her own teepee at the edge of her village. The morning was bleak and pallid, as if the sky itself felt ill at new danger.

She'd had a dream, like she did many nights. She possessed no form of precognition or like talents, but the panic and fear she'd felt was sign enough. She turned back into her teepee, pulling the warm, furry animal skin clser around her shoulders. As the dread began to bubble up in her gut, the fur had a simple but effective calming power.

She would help them.

Her resolved voiced loudly if not a little shaky, she dug around her possessions and pulled out a knife in a holster she tied securely around her thigh, and her spear.

Armed though still feeling terribly vulnerable, Choteka set off at a decent clip towards the village, trying her best to stay well out of sight until she could acertain the nature of the emergency.

Tehya snorted, staring at the old man, head tilting. All of these strange things, and a creepy cloak. She shook her head, gathering her thoughts. Why hadn't she noticed anything last night? Citlalli and she had been right outside the village. Surely, the commotion would have woken her up. She glances around, looking for a soquili she knew.

"Maybe. But it still is bothering me that the 'thing' could still be running around." He paused and couldn't help but chuckle, "Magical? A skin? I don't know... We'll see though. It's something new..." He sighed and hoped that everybody would calm down. "Yea... it even disgraced the fallen two-leggers and destroyed the burial ground. Odd..."

Nagual glared at the man, now he was looking at someone... but who? She couldn't tell, "I don't know.... Sanika told me a story once. Her people are different, and can turn into animals. But it is for good, not evil.... and usually...." The mare looked at the man and shivered, "usually it is after they are dead."

The mare sighed, "It doesn't appear that it would help, Yei... they don't seem to understand the threat this two-legger most likely is.... I don't like that look, who is he looking at?" Taken by the thought, her mind wandered back to that question.
"That time when he yelled, he seemed to be looking at something...addressing someone but I don't know who." She shook her head and furrowed her brow as her fiery mane fell over her eyes, shielding her from the morning sun in the process. What had occured during the night and this morning...it had all happened so quickly and she was finding it hard to recount everything.

Nagual was right as well though, all that walking throughout the night to cross the mountainsides so as to reach the village, the sound of the screams, the chaos - she was so tired, she hadn't even slept yet...

Nagual looked around, it seemed things were settling down a little... but why weren't they chasing this man out? The more she thought of it, the more he smelled of blood and death. Of course, they hadn't slept last night in their dash to the village. "Yei.... " Nagual whispered, her eyes still on the pelted man, "umm.... yeah, but who was he looking at?"

The mare felt eyes on her, and turned her head ever so slightly. Who was that with the mare that greeted Yei ((she means Cloud)) and why was he looking at them like that? "Yei, who is that?"

((Okay then!))
Lunathiel snarled at the old man making her rider and familiar cringe a bit. She paused a moment a bit confused by the twos behavior. "What?" She snapped turning her head sharply before pushing her way out of the crowd. The noise was starting to annoy her.

"Geez Luna...pissy much?" Bandit asked crossing his arms before jumping back to Tala. "Did you not sleep last night or what?!"

"Not that I remember..."She muttered. She'd take her bond as far from the crowds as possable where she couldn't get hurt. Then she'd go back and investigate that creepy old man who smelled of horse blood.

Jeevita walked around with Alsoomse still on her back. Things were getting out of control. Who knew what might happen next. Her ears were flat to her head as she looked around. Something wasn't right. It made her feel frighted, though she normally wasn't. Perhaps, it was because she knew that more soquili would get hurt. The question was. Who? She lowered her head as she walked. She knew that Alsoomse would soon want to get down and help, but it was two dangerous. Her wings where tight to her boding traping the young girls leggs to her side, but gently enough to keep them from hurting.

Evening raised her head up and looked up at the Chief from her kneeling position. "Chief, I recognize that man," she said quietly, pointing her finger towards Oyohusa and lowering her baze back to the ground. Her body was shaking with the memories of her family members disappearing and the rest scattered to the four winds. "Do not trust that man. Though I am not known here, few seeing me, this sight rings true to the same I witnessed." Her voice softened, praying silently to the Gods as tears slowly down her tanned cheeks. "Please, let him believe me."

"It could be anywhere really... or anyone of us. Though I doubt it's one of us. If anything, I would pinpoint this crime on a stranger, who doesn't enjoy the peace the soquili bring." Not that Inali herself was such a peaceful soquili, but it was the thought that counted. "Yes... a magical skin seems strange, doesn't it?" At least she was able to bring some levity into the situation. "It destroyed their burial grounds? How awful! How will their spirits rest now?" The thought of hungry ghosts didn't phase Inali too much though- she didn't believe in them, but others could panic.

Cloud's brow furrowed, he wasn't sure who this companion was but he gave a nod as he noted the mare's worried and nudged at her neck gently, "I suggest we find him then but I would feel better if you stayed away from the forests Tifa...whatever did this was nearby." He murmured as he glanced at the throng of Soquili which now appeared to be subsiding ever so slightly.

"If you lead the way I will ensure that nothing touches you, for now it is best if we locate your companion though, preferrably before nightfall."

Tehya moved through the crowd, whinnying angrily at the dog she stumbled over carelessly. But still she prowled around, looking for something, some clue she may have missed last night as to what may have happened the night previously.
