Jumped a little as the large queen’s head lowered to nudge one of the eggs, and the green spilled out, it was the first dragon that he had thought might be his, that surge of hope pulsing in his fragile heart at the sight of her, so scared, nervous, alone. It was how he so often felt but no, the gorgeous greens head swung towards the girls and his hopes where very much shattered against the rocks of disappointment once more. He gently rubbed his hit, he felt sure there would be a bruise forming there where the brown had balled him over. But it was his own fault for not being fast enough and he could not blame a dragon so eager to reach his bonded either.

That didn’t mean the experience helped him though and he found himself hanging back in the crowd once more, the perfect spot where his gangly awkward height allowed him to see over the heads of his fellows to the hot sands where the shells were still cracking and dragons forcing their way so determined out into the world and also remain safely back from the press of candidates for even after the brown he was still nor nervous of that vast mass of unknowns than the beautiful new dragons. He sighed and let out a small cheer with a few others as a bronze at last emerged from the clutch, probably the only one to emerge from this clutch which was so usually small but strong.

The bronze quickly impressed to one of the boys but seemed one of the calmer of the clutch, although he also got the impression that the small dragon knew his status and colour and was very comfortable with that thank you very much. It made a small crack the boys face anyway. But no time to stand and ponder the new dragons of the weyr that were already being lead away to fill their hungry bellies.

Another egg rock and swayed on the sands until the large blue inside practically punched it’s way out sending the blue shell scattered across the golden grains beneath. It was ineradicably large for a blue. Considering the egg though it was no surprise he was a blue and such a rich all encompassing colour but the size of him. It was impressive and he was drawing many excited glances from girls and boys. Nehren didn’t hold out much hope that the blue would look his way…still he made a small step forward, just encase.

Following the eyes of the other candidates, Dorinelic caught sight of the small, outstretched wing. Another blue...but...much larger then the last. It seemed almost...angry to be out of its shell. Dorinelic gave a small chuckle. To just be born and awaken to find yourself surrounded by so many! Shuffling his feet, Dorinelic made a small sound of protest. Looking down his feet had a few red splotches. How come he had not noticed until now? Brushing away the white hair in front of his face, he looked around and up. Shards! So much time had passed!

As the blue shook off the bits of shell, Kriia heaved a large sigh of relief. It was her first hatching, and she was still yet so young, that to be chosen at this point in time well. It frankly scared the skirts off her. Though the last blue had chosen a girl the last time, Kriia was betting that he'd choose one of the boys- some of them looked like men, possibly their last time on the sands, and she thanked the skies that she was still so young and that there would be many more hatchings to be part of. Weary to the bone, but still fascinated by the whole hatching, Kriia waited and watched to see who would get the large brute.

Both siblings applauded gladly when the bronze impressed. So far the only one of the clutch, it was good to see it had chosen with ease. It looked like it would be a well-mannered fellow, reassuring after some of the more wild dragons from the clutch previous.

The blue dragon who next entered the sand did not seem very happy. He was large, but it seemed he'd had a time breaking free. Perhaps his egg had been thick? That happened sometimes, it was said.

The sun was far lower now, it made it harder to see. Would the blue be able to gain his footing and find his boy or girl before they had to bring in glows to light the sands? Both siblings hoped so, though Gar more than Faranie. A blue didn't matter to this girl.

There were so few eggs left, and so many candidates still standing on the sands unimpressed and his stomach was twisting, curling and uncurling as he waited, more than a little anxious to see just who the massive blue would choose. Massive for a hatchling, but not as massive as some of the others he'd seen. Swallowing slowly Deldynwar tried to force his heart back into his chest and out of his throat. The little blue would choose in time, and if all went well there'd be no maulings, hopefully.

Smiling as the little green's chosen had to walk out and fetch the shy creature, Govind clapped as the rest of the crowd did pausing only to blink as a bronze came tumbling out out of the next egg to finish cracking.

Judging from what he had heard and seen, Bronze dragons were deathly important to the Weyr; some of the riders even held the status as bronze as a symbol of royalty or noble and deemed themselves slightly higher than the other folks of the Weyr. But this little fellow....even as a hatchling he seemed to know just what he was yet....that did not seem to affect him in any way. The little bronze well at ease with the world and, like his siblings before him, simply took it upon himself to seek out his human bonded. Again, Govind let his applause join the others as another Impression was made.

All of the eggs were close to being cracked. The Hatching would soon end for the night. The new Weyrlings would join their bonded tonight and a celebration would soon follow. Pushing aside a stray bit of hair that was tickling his forehead, Govind watched yet another egg hatched and revealed a Blue of a rich sapphire coloring...and judging from the murmurs of the folks around him, the little creature was bigger than most Blue hatchlings. He watched as the dragonet shook away the shell clinging to his hide. It would be interesting to see who this one chose.

The large, rich toned blue found it's feet after a moment, drawing itself up in an strict fashion as though trying to look commanding, which might have worked if he had been slightly more in control of the body he was now on a fast learning curve for.
He hesitated only for a moment or so before plowing across the sands in ... more or less... a decisive, if slightly ungainly bee-line for his target.

Lahar! You belong to me! So feed your Jinoth now! The tone then turned from commanding to slightly complaining, with a whine of Noowwwwww

Jiriar practically stumbled over his feet to avoid being knocked down by the suddenly moving blue, blinking owlishly as he peered after the beast. Goodness, that was quite the change... That one, he mused, shifting a little in place, was going to be quite the handful. There were only a few eggs left now, and his hazel eyes flicked over them silently. Somehow, he didn't feel as though this was his Hatching. It was only then that his stomach sank a little. What were they going to do with him, then? Was this it? Would he have to pack up and head back home to his father and prove him right after all? Still... well, at least some of the others here had the qualities these dragonets had been looking for. He'd at least gotten to witness that. It was enough to make his lips quirk tiredly, and the man folded his arms to watch the rest of the Hatching proceed.

The bronze had been so graceful and mellow that the swift fashion in which the blue moved was quite the contrast. As the bronze found its target in an orderly manner, Jaid could feel his heart rate returning to normal. However, he could feel it spike again as the blue began to plow across the sands to its bonded. He began to breath a little heavily, shaking his head a few times. No, no, it wasn't even coming over his way... he'd be fine, fine, fine! He swallowed and stepped back again, closing his eyes while he tried to take deep breaths. he opened them again once the group began clapping at the new Impression.

He sighed and managed to coordinate his shaky hands enough to clap for the newest Weyrling. Jai looked over the sands as the clapping died down. There...wasn't really much left now. The Hatching would be over soon and he hadn't even come close to Impressing once. He glanced around at the crowd; at least he wouldn't be the only one leaving the sands dragonless tonight. But...how many other had stood three times and still failed? Maybe that Weyrbrat had been right. Maybe he wasn't meant to be a rider. He just...wanted to be useful for something, to make a difference! But...maybe he was just destined to be a Weaver instead of a Rider. Or maybe your dragon just wasn't in this clutch. And it's not over totally yet, he told himself, trying to elevate his mood some. ...though it may as well be, a more hopless, dejected part of his mind added.

As the blue egg rocked back and forth and cracked open Nelioa smiled wider. That egg was one that had caught her attention since the very begining and one that she desperately wanted to see. Watching with intrest she bit down on her bottom lip cheering him on mentally. 'come on, you can do it! One more push!' she chanted.

Finally he tumbled to the ground, he was the most brilliant deep shade of blue. She smiled as she watched him trying to stand up and appear large. Oh he was an adorable one. Nelioa watched as he chose his rider, and was surprised when she didnt feel a pang of longing. Something about it all seemed very right. Just seeing the blue hatch had been enough.

Kiera gasped quietly as the beautiful blue dragon barreled forward toward his chosen. She smiled ambivalently and turned from the pair to give privacy within their own thoughts together. Her eyes focused upon the regal last egg of the bunch. She shuddered inwardly, her heart thudding like a hammer upon an anvil, a painful reminder that she was here, within arm's reach of an amazing creature.

She took small steps forward so she could see the lovely egg clearly among the other gaggle of tittering, shivering girls. Good luck. Good luck, little one! She whispered within her mind, pushing away all other thoughts that were irrelevant to the queen egg. This was the moment where all within the Weyr held their breath in expectation.

But Kiera did not.

Though she was excited, she would not let her emotions take over her judgment. She looked around her, looking at the girls who were after the same thing she was.A hope that they were worthy of the soon-to-be-born Queen.

And there was one of them!

Nandeli watched as the egg rocked back and forth, waiting eagerly to see what colour would come out of it. It was so big! Would it be another brown? Or maybe a really large blue? It turned out her second guess was right when the dragon finally broke through his shell. Even Nandeli was impressed by his size. Now who was his rider... Ah there! Lahar! She didn't know the boy well, but they certainly looked like they belonged together. Another successful Impression!

She folded her arms over her chest as she stared back at the remaining egg. Last one...

Tideal watched the egg split with his breath held. A gorgeous blue spilled onto the sands. It was less than a moment before the rich toned dragon headed for its rider. It seemed like the whole crowd of waiting Candidates took a breath at the same moment.
It was an odd feeling to be part of this, Tideal decided. He was used to the crowds at the hold but always liked the calm beaches much better. The hot sands that now permeated his sandals was a much different feeling, but the air held the same sort of power over the youth as the strength of the waves did. Though, this was not just strength and calm but a insane and almost tangible whirl of emotion. He shifted his weight and crossed his arms, somewhat disheartened but resolved to try for every clutch possible until he found his.
Looking around, he noticed the now filled gaps in the gang where new riders were standing, hoping, and waiting just as he. Tideal found himself wondering what exactly it was like to have a missing part of oneself... reunited as such. It was probably both startling and exhilarating. One of those unforgettable moments people cherish for all time.

Okassis didn't know if he'd appraised the dragon poorly or what, but when it rose onto its feet like that, he sucked in his breath, staring. That blue cut a strong figure, sure as Shards!

... But it was for someone else. There were barely any eggs left now. There was an air of defeatism and final desperation from many of the Candidates now - Okassis was still outwardly blank, seeming nearly detached from the going-ons around him, but inwardly was getting that same feeling that this might not have been his chance.

But... S'van had, and it... they were in this together, weren't they? But if S'van had Impressed, and Okassis hadn't, then....

It was still too early to call game. He wasn't here to muck around, he reminded himself firmly - it was Impress or else! And if he didn't this time, then he would next time. S'van would be ahead of him, maybe. He'd be a Senior when Okassis was a Junior - or maybe even a full-blown Rider, if Okassis were very unlucky. But he was bound to follow someday. He had to. He didn't have anywhere to go back to, so he'd better.

His gaze went back to the newly-fledged Weyrlings, searching out his friend among them. Strangely, it was almost easier to spot S'van by his dragon than by the seaholder himself. He stared at the pair with a blank wistfulness, paying little attention to movement on the sands, wondering what it was going to be like when he was at the barracks without his best friend. Had he let S'van down as badly as himself?

S'van was having a remarkably similar internal battle. Every time an egg hatched, he perked up slightly, hoping against hope that one of his friends (particularly one friend, of course) would Impress. While every choice was a good one, and he had smiled at, and cheered for whatever Candidates he watched Impress, he had nursed some disappointment. With every passing moment, he grew more and more tense, the grin turning into a smile, the smile turning into a thin white press of lips. He was nervous. Not for himself, but for his friends on the sands. Particularly, and especially for Okassis. They had planned to Impress together, to go through the twists and turns of caring for their dragonets together.

He was used to Okassis leaving. His trader friend so frequently left him behind as his caravan went along its way. He had gotten used to the sight of the blond's back... hadn't he? Wasn't he used to it? But the last couple of weeks they had been sleeping side by side, within a dragon length of each other-- less! S'van took a deep breath and let it out, cobbling together another smile as the blue dragonet Impressed. Be proud, be proud, he told himself, staring fixedly forward. Then Galliath had nudged him, his eyes whirling a yellowish green. They were just beginning to take on an orangish hue. Quickly, the weyrling patted his friend's soft nose, trying to reassure him for all that he himself was concealing a worry of his own.

S'van, I will never leave you, the brown dragonet said, attempting to ease that fear. "I know, Gall. You won't." Galliath, who was truly a gallant beast (to his own mind) did not bother to correct S'van's mangling of his name. Glancing out across the sands, S'van met Okassis' gaze, and his expression grew serious. His friend was already watching him... or perhaps his dragon? He bit his lip and put on the most encouraging smile that he could manage. Surely Kas would Impress, and then they would be together. Surely there was no cause for concern. If not at this Hatching then another. Surely...
