Well, I have, by a completely random chance, interviewed a possible future member.

Quote:
Me: Oh well, let's start with why you wanted to join the IPG in the first place. What makes you an Intellectual Pervert?

Broken of Forsaken: Well, I guess that since this is online. Being an intellectual pervert is using the right words. Otherwise using some other ofensive words while being pervert would be... Some kind of offensive pervert, like those no one wants to be around with.

Me: You do have a point.

BoF: I think I'm an Intellectual Pervert because I can discuss about such themes with literacy and intelligence.

Me: I see. And what do you think of sex in general?

BoF: Well I don't take sex too seriously or too lightly. Sex is just sex and it's what it is. If you're having sex you ought to know what you're doing.

Me: Exactly. Now, about sex, do you think it's being over-emphasized? As in, it's everywhere and everyone just babbles all day about it?

BoF: I would think about sex once a day if it wasn't for media. For example, right now I'm watching a program on called Sex on Hollywood, which recapitulates sex on some movies. And they kinda give the wrong message because they give the idea that it's all about the pleasure and forget the basics, that we do it for love. And maybe that's why it's being over-emphasized.

Me: But what about people who practice "one night stands", prostitues and other people, who aren't necessarily in love with the person they're ********: I think that you could think of many reasons why someone would do that, for example alcohol, personal problems you want to get away from or just beacuse you think it's cool. I don't think it's wrong, but it always depends on the situation.

As you can see, I ran it more like a normal conversation, and I think this one is a good prospect. Common sense above all, literacy, and seems like he'll be active.

Apparently, invites have already been sent.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 31, 2006 7:16 pm

Mm, no, Elrin has received no such invitation... Was it perhaps sent to the wrong person? He's technically elrin_02 on Gaia... (I know he applied, so the invite should have been sent to him, but if it just got sent to 'elrin' then that would be a problem...)

I copypasta'd the name, so the invitation was sent. Maybe his inbox is full?

No, I'll check again...

(He's out of town, but I have access to his computer... and all of his items while he's away. blaugh )

Nope. His inbox is only 24% full. I checked is outbox, sentbox, savedbox, and his guild memberships, too. -zip-.

Could you please send the invite again?

Tried again, no good. Did he request to join? Sometimes that ******** up the invites. If you can cancel that, maybe the invite comes through. I know nothing of this crap. sweatdrop

He did request (he's a good lad.) But I have no clue how to cancel a request.

Then we can only wait until his request reaches the top 10 in the list.

EDIT: I deleted one bad request, and he popped up. He has been accepted. Hooray for Deus Ex Machina!

After accepting him, I saw someone had posted their essay into the join request:

Anonymous_Helper
Guild Request Essay: Pornography It seems pornography is a big issue these days among teenagers and adults. Among the teenagers, they do not start looking at pornography because they want too. There's always an influence and out of curiousity or even stumble upon it on google or any other search engine. Eventually, seeing it once has made the teenagers somewhat crave more pornography. They do not know what the problem or why they're so addicted to it. Perhaps its the fact that it's something that makes them feel horny, or they know its bad so they do it, or friends started so they wanna start to, there are MANY reasons. However, this is also the parents' fault. An adult will eventually find out their child looks at pornography. Sure, the kid gets scolded at but the parent does not do a good job of stopping it for pornography is like a drug; it's addictive. So the child cannot stop. Parents should realize or probably do that the child will try again. There are certain blocking programs that even schools laptops have to stop viewing pornography. Simple blocking tools are sueless, kids these days are going high-tech and pretty smart, but only those who were born in about 1992 and lower. All the other kids have been stupified by TV at a young age to be smart but every other kid know how to evade those blockign programs and unblock certain sites. Parents can go to the extreme and get a permanent unbreakable (possible if the child has an IQ over 200 and is an elite hacker) then rest peacefully. It's always on the news that children view pornography even in schools, why won't the parents help? Pornography needs the full attention of children and adults and be dealt with correctly.

While I disagree with some points, the overall jist of it is good. I give him a yay.

EDIT: Wait a sec, I don't remember thinking that way about this essay. Must've confused it with another one I was reading. Basically, I took the lazy way out and gave it a yay because of fancy wording. Like I said, I disagree, and I take my precious yay back. I vow never to watch porn and read essays simultaneously ever again. Thank you, Sylphi, for showing me the error in my ways. Nay.

These days? Did the Reagan administration just disappear from history? Have you never heard of Andrea Dworkin or Catherine McKinnon? History, people! Learn about the subject before you write about it.

Quote:
Among the teenagers, they do not start looking at pornography because they want too.

Proof, please? I personally know several people (myself included) who would tell you instantly that you are completely wrong. If you are going to say something like this, you need to actually back up your position.
Quote:

There's always an influence and out of curiousity or even stumble upon it on google or any other search engine.

Please use proper grammar. If people can't understand you, they aren't going to take you seriously. (PS: Google should be capitalized.)

Quote:
Eventually, seeing it once has made the teenagers somewhat crave more pornography.

The idea that pornography is addictive for the average person has never been proven. Please offer at least a little proof to back up your assertions. Also, this sentence is not grammatical.

Quote:
They do not know what the problem or why they're so addicted to it. Perhaps its the fact that it's something that makes them feel horny, or they know its bad so they do it, or friends started so they wanna start to, there are MANY reasons.

You assume a priori that looking a pornography is bad, without providing any proof or reasons why it is.

Quote:
However, this is also the parents' fault. An adult will eventually find out their child looks at pornography.

There is no reason to assume this.

Quote:
Sure, the kid gets scolded at but the parent does not do a good job of stopping it for pornography is like a drug; it's addictive.

There is no reason to assume either half of this sentence.

Quote:
So the child cannot stop.

Oh yes, those porn-obsessed eight yr olds I run into every day... rolleyes
Quote:

Parents should realize or probably do that the child will try again.

Agreed. They should also get over it.

Quote:
There are certain blocking programs that even schools laptops have to stop viewing pornography.

Required by federal laws which are probably unconstitutional. Are you familiar with the DOPA?

Quote:
Simple blocking tools are sueless, kids these days are going high-tech and pretty smart, but only those who were born in about 1992 and lower.

So, apparently all 'kids' 14 and above are hackers?

Quote:
All the other kids have been stupified by TV at a young age to be smart but every other kid know how to evade those blockign programs and unblock certain sites.

Only kids below the age of 14 watch lots of TV! People above the age of 14 watched completely different TV, or magically didn't watch it at all!

Quote:
Parents can go to the extreme and get a permanent unbreakable (possible if the child has an IQ over 200 and is an elite hacker) then rest peacefully.

Rest peacefully that preventing their teens from viewing porn on the internet will do what, exactly? The teen still wants to look at boobies, and given a few years, they'll be out of the house and able to get as much porn as they want.

Quote:
It's always on the news that children view pornography even in schools, why won't the parents help?

Funny, I've never heard that on the news. Got any proof for that claim?

But I totally understand. I mean, pornography should be viewed in the home, not the school. Parents should totally help their kids get porn on their home computers so that they don't have to wank off in the school library where everyone will see them.

Quote:
Pornography needs the full attention of children and adults and be dealt with correctly.

You have entirely failed to prove that pornography is a problem at all, or that it needs to be dealt with. You are also refering to teenagers as 'children', which is a blatant abuse of the English language.

Please use paragraphs and actually research a topic before you write about it if you want to join an 'intellectual' guild.
