Beloved Friend

Drama Class began as it normally did...with the students sitting in the theatre seats and Mr. Where appearing on stage with a flourish to address them. Seated by her friend Draculaura, Draconia noticed the mysteriously overdressed student from earlier come into the Clawditorium. Draconia shrank down (which didn't accomplish much, considering she was nearly half a metre taller than Draculaura), but for a moment she caught the new ghoul's eye and could have sworn she saw her shoot Draconia a smile.

Mr. Where spoke to the new ghoul, and then resumed his position centre stage. He spoke to the students.

"Maladies and Gentlemansters, today we have a double creature feature of surprises! Firstly, of course, will be the announcement of which play we will be performing the last day of the Scaremester." Several students looked at each other with anticipation. Only Toralei Stripe, leaning across several seats in the back seemed coolly un-worried.

"Secondly, though, is the announcement that a new actor has joined our little guild! Another creative soul has risen from the grave to breathe unlife into theatre." Mr. Where spoke with his usual dramatic flair. With a flick of his wrist, one of the spotlights ignited and shone on the new ghoul. Draconia would have un-died under such attention, but she seemed to be handling it well. "This is Arillena FaeDathanna. Do give her a proper Dramatic welcome."

All of the students stood and gave Arillena a polite ovation. The spotlight moved away from her and attention focused back on Mr. Where.

"And now, let us not tarry any longer. The time has come to announce the play for Fall Scaremester." In the back of the Clawditorium, Draconia heard a distinctly Toralei-like snicker.

"Despite the fact that all but one of the scripts turned in to me found themselves mysteriously shredded, I had already read them and decided on the winner."

The snickering stopped, and was replaced with a barely audible growl.

"There were many great entries, from Draculaura's tragedy 'Lady Blood and Lord Howlington' to Heath Burns' 'Fire-Boy Saves the Universe: A totally true story I swear,' but one play I thought had the scope and heart to be our fall play. And that play was 'Sinistairia' by Draconia St. George!"

Draconia gasped and nearly teared up as all of the other students in the class (except one werecat in the back) applauded. Her cheeks flushed a darker gold and the room suddenly felt very hot, even for a dragon.

"Bl...bloody bats!"
Draconia hexclaimed. "I can't believe it!"

"You should believe it." Mr. Where replied as he stepped down from the stage. "Your script had a ring of clawthenticity to it that I simply could not deny. I didn't read this play so much as feel like I un-lived it."

"Well, it was inspired by true events," Draconia admitted. "Though I changed a great many of the details so that it would fit within the time frame of a play and not, say, stretch out over several months of waiting for people to respond."

"I must forwarn you, though. As the author of this play, you will be expected to take part in the directorial duties of this play. It will likely disqualify you from having any starring role." Mr. Where informed Draconia, who gave a slightly chuckling sigh of relief.

"Believe me, I have no problem with that!" She answered. Behind the curtain was where she was comfortable. All of her attempts to be on-stage had ended rather disastrously.

"Fangtastique!" Mr. Where replied, clapping his bandaged hands together. "Then, let us begin discussing the next most important part of the dramatic process - tryouts for our lead roles! In this play, there are four lead roles - the heroic Psimon Spellerman, his villainous ex-ghoulfriend Hexitha DuSwampgas, her lackey Norman Average, and the heroic ghoul Psimon falls in love with at the end, Battina Flutterwing."

The play WAS a bit different than the actual events Draconia had based it on...but Draconia hoped that her friends wouldn't mind the changes. Mr. Where opened his satchel and started distributing scripts.

"These are just excerpts from other plays. Today we will begin preparing for the most important part of an aspiring actor's un-life...the clawditions!"

Scripts were passed around and voices started warming up. Draconia felt a tingle from her toes to the tips of her wings. They were going to perform HER play!!!!

One the spotlight moved from over top of the Fae, Ari had to blink a few times to be able to see again. She didn't feel it necessary to be on stage anymore at this point so as the Drama instructor spoke she silently slipped off and stood near the wall wondering what next.

Ari glanced around the room. Was that something floating? The cat girl in the back gave her a once over then smirked before turning back to Mr. Where with confidence. Yeah... that was definitely a judgmental look... The Fae chose to ignore it and turned her attention to what Her new teacher was saying.

Oh? A play written by one of the students? Ari was intrigued. It seemed like everyone here had their own wonderful sense of originality and imagination. When Mr. Where announced the Chosen Script she clapped along with the others.

Draconia, That's right. I had almost forgotten her name. Ari thought remembering how the dragoness had reacted to seeing her again. Oh dear, I thought so... She must think that I acted the way I did earlier because of her appearance. Which was most certainly not the case.

Returning to the topic at hand Ari made sure to carefully accept an excerpt and looked at it with interest. 'Sinistaria' By Draconia St. George... Of course she would audition, but it never mattered to her which part the Fae was given. Just being under the spotlight was enough.

Once the chance arrived Arillena quietly approached The new found director with a small smile. "Draconia, was it?" She curtsied slightly. "Congratulations, I cannot wait to see how your Story comes to life." Suddenly the Fae bowed.

"I mean to apologize for this morning."
She stood straighter with a smile and a hidden emotion in her eyes. "I was struggling to properly adjust and went a bit mad from the sudden chaos... I hope You did not believe that you or anyone did anything to cause such spontaneous madness." The elvish girl giggled and smiled at those around her.

"It's lovely to meet you all~"

Gryff N

PostPosted: Sat Oct 04, 2014 1:06 pm

Gryff slouched in his libury chair. It was a Study Howl for him and he'd managed to find an empty table near the non-fiction posthumous autodie-ographies where no one would dare bother him. Or scold him for bringing a beverage into the stacks.

He was trying to cut back and thus sipped only his third Kelpie Boowick coffin of the morning. He hooked a leg under the table and snagged the chair across from him as a hoof-rest. Sighing, he slouched down even further and dug into his messenger bag. Shoving past Die Fidelity, Grimfinite Jest, and Swann's Grave, he pulled out a much battered copy of Bleakfast of Champions. From between its pages he pulled out a folded a flier.

"I jussssst wanted to give this to Gryff, ssssso that, um...he knew about it. And if he wished to attend, I would be, um... very pleasssssed," she had said as Lin jumped up twice to intercept the paper.

Pinching it between tumb and foreclaw, Lin had sniffed the paper once, read it upside down and snorted at Layla,
"What's a llap? It's Exits Los some kind of band? Gryff is VERY picky about what boosic we liste~"

"It'ssssss not a 'llap,' it'ssss a..."

Gryff plucked the paper out of Lin's hands

"Ball?" Gryff finished, arching an eyebrow and sneering ever so slightly.

Layla had flushed.

"It'ssssss the traditional Lamia ball, it'sssssss my turn to hossssst this year. You may not have been to one like thissss ever, we don't celebrate in quite the sssssame way."

Gryff "hmmmm"ed in acknowledgement, but his curiosity was piqued. A regionally traditional party that wasn't like other parties and held some sort of cultural significance...that meant it probably wasn't going to be packed with Wailmart commercialism fueled by the corpseperate greed that marked every other howliday celebration.

He shrugged.

"I'll think about it," he'd told her.

"Yeah, we'll THINK about it," Lin echoed, folding his arms again and jutting his chin out.

She smiled shyly and slithered away.

Now Gryff examined the flier more closely. Students AND staff, well that was less interesting. That meant a lot of monsters were going and it was pretty indiscriminate about who was let in the door. Someone like, he gave an involuntary shudder,
Heath could be there. Or bros. His talons clenched and partly crushed his half full paper coffin cup. He down the rest of it in a single gulp, then fished into the secret compartment Lin had built into the bottom of Gryff's bag. A reinforced thermal-lined coffin compartment. He pulled out another to-go cup and drank deeply.

Well, he'd survived the bro'ad trip and there was no way this could be worse.

Ronan tried to focus in Dead Languages, but truth be told, his mind kept wandering to his plans that afternoon with *shudder* Atomica. He had a nasty feeling in the pit of his stomach, he felt sea sick in fact, just knowing deep down she'd find some way to mess everything up.
Perhaps she'd get them BOTH lost for 50 years this time.

He was just conjuring up an epic cave in when the teacher coughed loudly.

"Mr Aalto, I do appologise if we are boring you."

Ronan gulped, everyone was staring at him now.

"I.. no... no sir, it's not that." He began.

The teacher continued to glare at him.

"Well then, perhaps you'd care to conjugate the verb?"

Ronan felt his face flush, he stared at the blackboard. He didn't even know what language they were supposed to be studying today, were they still on ancient mesopotamian?

"Um... " He began. The room was eerily silent as everyone waited. "Er... I... um..." Nope, he had nothing.

"May I suggest you pay better attention Mr Aalto. "

Ronan exhaled loudly. "Y.. yes sir, of course sir."

There was some faint snickering somewhere behind him, but thankfully, the lesson rapidly returned to normal. Ronan hiding his burning face behind his text book and cursing that automiton for distracting him even when she wasn't even in the vicinity.

Arillena

"I mean to apologize for this morning."
She stood straighter with a smile and a hidden emotion in her eyes. "I was struggling to properly adjust and went a bit mad from the sudden chaos... I hope You did not believe that you or anyone did anything to cause such spontaneous madness." The elvish girl giggled and smiled at those around her.

"It's lovely to meet you all~"

Well, that hexplained a great deal to Draconia (though not the wearing of a formal gown to school. How *was* she going to get around in Physical Deaducation?). It felt like a great load was lifted off of Draconia's shoulders as Arillena smiled at her and gave her a little bow. Draconia smiled back.

"Well that's lovely!"
Draconia replied. "I think every monster has a 'first day of school story.' I bashed headfirst into a manster on my first day in the middle of the hallways, and he ended up becoming my BFFU - you know, my Beast Friend for Unlife. Draculaura, do you have a first-day story?"

"Oh? Sure? Probably?" Draculaura replied, looking up from her script, tapping the heart-shaped birthmark on her cheek distractedly as she thought. "It was over a hundred years ago, and so many more interesting things have happened since then...."

"Seriously? Trying to butter up the director so you'll get a leading role on your first day?" Toralei Stripe had slinked up to their little group, with a sardonic, fanged smile on her face. "I've seen monsters with guts, sometimes literally falling out all over the place, but I have to say, THAT takes guts."

With a purring laugh, Toralei wandered away. Draculaura scowled. Draconia looked a little sheepish.

"Don't listen to her. She's all about testing out chaos theory wherever she goes." Draculaura assured Arillena. "Claws and Effect, you know?"

"I do hope you're nearly finished studying your scripts!" Mr. Where suddenly appeared on stage and addressed the entire class. "I'm very eager to see what you all bring to your Clawdition tomorrow!"

Draconia looked at the clock on the wall. Class was nearly done! Although she should have felt a bit trepidatious - after all, her 'date' with JD was still forthcoming AND now she had the added responsibility of directing the play - instead she felt very happy to have made what she was sure would be a new friend. As everyone gathered up their things, Draconia made sure she was close enough to Arillena to ask-

"Can I walk with you to your next class? I hope you're going to enjoy Monster High!"

The Rest of the Day sped by in a blur....

Until the final bell of the day gonged out over the entire Monster High campus. Another school day was over! Students poured out of the classrooms, some of them free for the day, others rushing off for their after-school hacktivities.

The school Graveball team were having a scrimmage, but it was optional. Coach Igor knew that over-working the team the day before the big game was an invitation for disaster.

Several students hung around the campus to prepare to go down into the Catacombs for their Mad Science excursion project. Others were meeting for Fashionista Club or Winter Sports club. The school newspaper, the Gory Gazette was preparing to publish their latest edition, holding off only for the results of tomorrow's Graveball game.

No matter what the students were heading off to do, it promised to be an hexciting night...

SOS brutha! BOJANGLES needed asap!

This message had showed up on this horridly corpserate device that Harry's Old Monster had insisted he have at this school. Harry no idea had to operate it. He had shook it, talked to it, and punched random buttons but all he managed to do was send a mass text to the school consisting of random letters and numbers.

"So...not...cruel....and what is a 'brutha?'"

At least Gibberish had sent him good news earlier, right before he and Goobledygook went to look at these caverns nearby. They had scored the talent! Harry knew that the hacktivist bands would want to help a great clawse!

Earlier in the day....somewhere in the NeverNever...

"Why should I....or any of us play some concert for a bunch of brats FOR FREE?"

Jimi Hexdrix was echoing the sentiment of all the boosical groups in the room. Who did these goblins think they were? These bands were Rich and Famous and got paid for playing! Clawses were all well and good but they needed to be kept in a certain lifestyle that they had grown accustomed to! Gibberish blinked at Hexdrix.

"You mean besides for the honor of playing for Prince Harold Herne, the next Erlking? How about this? You all have contracts with the Sidhe for the glamours you possess. The glamours that make others see you as extremely gorgeous rock stars. Now, what would happen if the Erlking cancelled those contracts?"

"You can do that! We'd be ruined!"

An anger muttering went through the boosical acts.

"The Erlking would do ANYTHING for his son. Including cancelling your contracts and risking the wrath of the Queens of Summer and Winter. You will play Woestock and fully support the BOJANGLES or do I have to tell the Lord Herne you have insulted his house?"

The assembled boosicians looked about helplessly and agreed. They would play Woestock.

Now...

After scoring all these greats acts, everyone would be looking at the BOJANGLES in a new light!

Perry's day had surprisingly enough, actually gone relatively smoothly. That could of course only spell disaster for this afternoon catacombs crawl, but right now he was far too happy to be skipping out on his parent's usual grounded punishments to focus on potential calamity. He could be mucking out the animals on the family farm, a job only made worse by the fact animals seemed to absolutely detest the young Peryton. Or he could be plucking chickens for the butcher chop. Worse, he could be being sent out on *shudder* deliveries. He always dreaded the inevitable order from Mrs Shreikans, an old Banshee who felt it neccisary to pinch Perry's cheeks and comment on how much he'd grown every... single.... week. Eugh.

He waited for Motthew to show up, resisting the urge to pace and instead checking and rechecking his camera equipment. He intended to kill two rocs with one stone this afternoon, combining a tedious search for something clawsome with his photography project "Mysteries Underground"

IF of course his lab partner bothered to show up.

"Of course i'd sooner be doing this project ALONE" Ronan griped as he and Meme walked down the corridor.
"But apparently i'm not permitted to do so. It's ridiculous really, that mechanical menace will do nothing but slow me down, get us lost and probably blow something up in the process."

Meme snorted, patting her boofriend a little over enthusiastically on the shoulder. He nearly stumbled, frowning a little.

"She's not THAT bad."

"Yes she is! You haven't had to deal with her in Mad Science, she's a health and safety violation all of her very own!"

"You'll be fine. And here." Meme dug through her bag, several handfuls of confetti and streamer ribbon tumbling out onto the floor as she withdrew a map. "I printed this off for you. I know you probably already have one."

Ronan nodded and the clown ghoul rolled her eyes with a smile.

"But just in case something happens to that one..."
Like Atomica gets annoyed and burns it to cinders with her laser vision or something. She had lasers right? "here's a spare map."

Ronan's expression softened and he took the map gratefully. Folding it and tucking it carefully into one of the many pockets of his own backpack. "thank you."

"Well remember, I want you back in one piece for Frightday!" Meme still couldn't quite bring herself to say the words date night.

Ronan smiled softly. "I'll do my beast."

"yeah you better not fall down any bottomless pits or something!"

Ronan looked uncertain. "I uh... i'll try very hard not to?"

"Good." Meme broke into a sharp toothed grin. "And cheer up, Atomica needs this grade as much as you do. She's not gonna sabotage it."

"It's not sabotage i'm worried about."

"Oh stop it! Go on, GET!" Meme shoved the Selkie off down the hall. "Have fun!" she called in her sing-song way as she waved over enthusiastically.

Ronan sighed, waving half heartedly back and really hoping against all hope he really would be able to make their friday night date, he had images in his head of himself in a full body cast... or worse.

Atomica was waiting impatiently for him near one of the many catacomb entrances.

"you're late." She informed him matter of factly.

Ronan glared, nope, he wasn't going to enjoy any moment of this afternoon was he?
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2014 1:42 pm

BFFU huh?... It was a new concept for the Fae, but it wasn't a bad thought either. Ari frowned a tad at the cat girl's accusation. "But, That isn't-" She didn't get to finish. Talking to Draconia and Draculaura helped bring the smile back.

Draconia St George
"Can I walk with you to your next class? I hope you're going to enjoy Monster High!"

The changeling accepted The dragoness' offer and followed her out of the Clawditorium.

"Thank you, I hope so as well~"

~~~
Whew... What a day.. Ari thought as she packed up her bag before making it tiny again. She wondered what she should do next... The elvish girl usually went home after school, but for some reason she felt compelled to stay a bit later.
Ari walked down the hallway silently. All day she had gotten strange looks that she most certainly wasn't used to... A silver dragonfly hovered around her as she sighed. What's wrong? It buzzed. The elf subconsciously smoothed her skirt.
"Am I over dressed?" She whispered to him. The insect was silent. ...I don't know what you mean.
"Oh you are no help at all..."
That's when she noticed the group of Students standing around where she recalled Kai pointing out as one of the catacomb entrances. Ari recognized a few of them but not enough to approach anyone. A question formed on her Pale girl's lips as she turned and nervously scanned the hallways.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2014 2:46 pm
Motthew fluttered down from the doomitories after leaving his books in his room. He saw Perry waiting and fluttered over to him.
"Hey!"
he said as he landed beside him, "Sorry, you weren't waiting long were you?" he just smiled at him, pushing his sunglasses closer to his eyes.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2014 3:35 pm
Perry was currently somewhat distracted by the new ghoul chatting to a dragonfly. He'd briefly passed her several times during the day, but now he had nothing better to do than monster watch as he waited for his lab partner to show up, he was starting to notice how oddly dressed and well, utterly normie looking the ghoul was. Huh. Maybe she WAS a normie, like that Jackson kid. She did look pretty freaked out.
He glanced over at Motthew as he finally appeared. "I dunno, I wasn't counting."
He nodded toward Ari. "So... another new kid? What's going on? All the other schools on the planet suddenly closed down or something?" He snickered to himself. Seemed every week they had some new student roaming the halls looking lost.
Motthew looked over at the new ghoul and smiled, "Well, this is a pretty highly recommended school." he shrugged with a chuckle. There were a lot of new students all the time, it's just hard to keep track of them all.
He looked at Perry, "My old school was barely a school. Just one family of werewolves and me basically."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2014 6:13 pm
"You're late." Atomica informed Ronan matter-of-factly. Honestly, she had been hoping he wouldn't come at all. Gryff and Lin both thought Atomica was being silly about not wanting to hexplore the catacombs - after all, that was where they found her, wasn't it? But they just didn't understand.
Maybe it was a glitch in her programming. Maybe it was a virus or malware. But the depths of the catacomb frightened Atomica, and any hexcuse she could have to not go down there would be perfectly all fright with her. Even if it meant taking the "F" and redoing the class next Scaremester.
"Well. Let's go, then." Ronan, clearly not noticing Atomica gnawing nervously on her chromed and polished thumbnail, pulled out a paper map and inspected it. "We will start in the Western pass."
"You brought a map?"
Atomica asked. Ronan looked at her like she was an idiot.
"Of course I brought a map. How else would we know where we're going?"
"But it's the CATACOMBS." Atomica answered. "None of the maps of it are accurate. Some of the corridors probably rearrange themselves!"
Ronan visibly rolled his eyes, even if he thought Atomica wouldn't notice.
"They're caverns made of stone. How can they rearrange themselves? Just because your GPS doesn't work down there doesn't mean that the caverns are changing. You just have a bad sense of direction."
"That's not-!" Atomica started to protest, but Ronan was already walking down the stairs into the Catacombs without her. "Hey! Wait!"
Atomica took off at a run.
Then stopped.
Then ran a couple more steps.
Then stopped again.
She REALLY didn't want to actually go down there. Atomica gnawed on her lower lip with her chrome upper teeth. If Ronan DID go down there, following his "map" and got lost forever without her, she'd still get an F.
"Uuuugggghh! Wait up!"
Atomica caught up to Ronan halfway down the long, spiraling steps that wound down into the main area of the Catacombs underneath the school. The Eastern pass led to the Skulltimate Roller Maze arena, and a bit further down that way was the 'secret hideout' of Atomica and her friends Lin and Gryff.
Other monsters called them the Trouble Tribe like it was a BAD thing, but Atomica liked the nickname. She wished they were heading for the hideout right now. Her knee-bolts were rattling.
"The least you could have done was have yourself properly oiled and prepared for the excursion."
Ronan lectured her as he looked at his map again, turning them away from the nice, safe Eastern pass and towards the much-less inhabited Western pass. "All that squeaking and rattling is very distracting."
"You don't hear me complaining about all of your noisy....uh...breathing!" Atomica protested, and then gave up. Ronan was going to be a pill this whole traumatic trip. "Which way do we go from here?"
"Ari!" Kai's sense of smell had done it again, and he'd tracked down the new ghoul after classes had ended. He trotted up to her with his bookbag slung over his back and gave her a wave. "How'd the rest of day one go?"
As he listened to her answer, Kai's phone buzzed, and a text from Harry Herne popped up.
