Zig walked in through the castle gate giving the courtyard a quick glance. It seemed nice enough though a little large for her tastes. "But I suppose a castle isn't really a castle without it's size. Well, unless it's a sand castle," she thought as a small smile played about her lips. She gave a glance back a Taun who was still behind her. He'd wiped his shirt off a bit though there was still some mud on it. As she was about to call something out to him her eyes went wide. Zig closely watched the swiftly approaching thing behind Taun.

As Taun followed Zig into the large courtyard inside the castle his eyes went wide. Wow they really do take the whole "intimidating" concept to the next level. He thought as he looked around, then he noticed Zig staring at something behind him. "Hey Zig whatcha lookin' at?" He asked puzzeled.

"Axex! Not again!" yelled Zig as a large tan bird flew heavily into Taun's back knocking him over in the process. On top of the fallen man's back Axex, Zig's pet Griffon Vulture, began preening himself. "I thought I told you not to do that anymore," scolded Zig at the bird. He just looked up at her as if saying, "You know you find it funny," before going back to preening himself. "Even so its not polite. At least give people a warning screech alright?" she replied. The vulture shook his feathers and gave her a curt nod of agreement. "Good, now that that's settled let's go in shall we Taun?" Zig turned from Axex before realizing that her bird was still perched on the man's back. "Oops. Axex would you mind getting off Taun?" The vulture flew upwards before clinging to the knapsack on Zig's back. "Thank you. Sorry about that Taun. This is my vulture, Axex," she said as she pointed a thumb at the bird.

"No it's quite alright, I understand." Taun said as he got off the ground for the second time that day. He dusted himself off and said. "My pet does similar things, hold on." Taun put his fingers in his mouth and let off a sharp piercing whistle and looked up into the sky. After a few moments a red-crowned crane landed next to Taun. "Good job Akito, nice to see ya again."

"Seems like you've got more control over your pet than I do mine," said Zig wryly. A sharp peck in the back of the head caused her to shout. "Ow. Okay I get it Axex. He hates being called a pet," she said by way of explanation while rubbed the back of her head gingerly. "He's got quite the attitude. He probably fits right in in the castle. Anyway I've got to say Akito's beautiful." The girl admired the crane's feathers in silence as she had decided that she'd talked a bit too much already.

"Well thank you," Taun said as Akito preened himself. "But you'll find that I hardly have any control over him, he just graces me with his presence. And I must say that Axex is really quite unique, meant in a good way of course." He added hastily to avoid another encounter with the vulture.

A messenger came into the castle and bowed to the guards, they knew her well. She asked where Luke was and no one could tell. She knew where his room was, the mirrors eyes. The slipped the letter, for him to find. Then left did she by second three and gone without a trace she was.
"By order of the Air Court you are to return back to the air kingdom as soon as this is recieved. The castle is not safe to discuss this information. Bring no one else."

"Sounds like we've both got nobility for pets," Zig commented and Axex continued to preen himself behind her. "I'd agree about the unique thing. He's certainly got an attitude." A slight smile crept up on Zig's face as she thought about just how much attitude her bird had. He was still a good pet though even if he haed being called one.

"Well that's certainly true." Taun replied laughing, he reached into his bag and pulled out a piece of salted pork. Axex's head popped up from behind Zig's. "Hold on there big bird, this is a peace offering." He tossed it to the bird whose head shot out like a snake and snatched it from the air.

Zig reached one hand up and patted her bird on the head before addressing Taun, "He'll be your friend for a while now. At least until he's hungry again." She swung her knapsack off one shoulder and around in front of her which presented a faceful of feathers at her. Zig shook her head and sighed at how Axex just clung to her pack and kept eating. One hand dug into the sack beneath Axex who comepletely disregarded Zig's movements. She eventually pulled out a couple of dried fish. "Will he eat these?" she asked as she tossed them towards Akito.

Akito's head flashed out in a blur of scarlet and accepted the dried fish readily. "Well apparently he does." Taun said. Akito, having finished chewing, walked over to the small girl, ruffled his feathers and gave a small bob of his head. "Oh, he likes you," Taun said in a slight bit of awe. "I'm the only other person he has ever bowed to."

"Really? I'm honored," said Zig. She flipped her knapsack back over her shoulder and disturbed Axex from his resting place. He'd finshed the pork a little while ago and so he ended up flying up off to the side. It didn't take the vulture long to land on Taun's bag. Once there he pulled out one of his feathers and tucked it behind his ear. "He likes to show appreciation like that. Most of the time people aren't too keen on having a vulture around so he doesn't end up pulling out too many feathers." Then, Axex gave Taun a hard peck to the shoulder and flew back to Zig. "But he never can resist the chance to peck at someone. I sometimes wonder just how he managed to end up the way he is."

"Ahh milady that is one of the greatest questions of our age." Taun said with a mocking scholarly tone. "But one must never really question the comings and goings of our fine feathered friends! Oh kind Sir Axex I will always treasure this gift, and I am sure your deeds will be sung in songs that rival the ballads of old!" He said as he pulled the feather from behind his ear and dropped to his knee with a large grin upon his face.

Kel flew in high descending toward the castle, he reached out and latched onto one of the towers near the very top. As he looked down he thought for a moment. "Ok, first off where am I going? Second, I guess it's a bad idea to go flying around in a metropolitan area. I'm surprised somebody didn't point me out flying up here. Even at this altitude It's pretty obvious I'm not one of the common fowl." He patted the side of the spire and looked down into the center of the tower arrangement, then toward the front gate.

Zig also grinned widely at Taun's antics. When she glanced back at Axex she just caught him regally bowing his head in acknoledgement of Taun's words. She began giggling which was a rare occurrence for her. After she'd gotten herself back under control Zig said, "It seems he accepts your statements. I'm not quite sure what balladic tales thay'll sing of him though. Maybe he'll be known as the bird that pecked one thousand heads."
