Wow. Everyone here's like "I'm 1st chair" or "I'm [good number] chair." I totally messed up on my auditions this year. I played all the staccato(sp) notes legato(sp). I used to be 3rd or 4th for the past two years and now I'm 13th (it's out of 18

^ Haha, I bombed my auditions this year as well. Right now though I'm 9th chair out of... 12? Plus one of the flutists below me converted to tuba, and another is playing the oboe right now, making me look like second to last. Before I was 3rd chair, but I bombed a playing test as well. I don't think anyone in my band will have a chance the be reseated for the rest of this year though because right now we're busy with marching band, [getting ready for the Florida trip heart ] and after that we have to work on the pieces we're performing for our spring concert.

My solo and ensemble is in 2 weeks... And.. 3 of my 5 pieces aren't even worked up yet, mainly because I haven't been able to get with my partners for them >.< Flute trios are always fun, and so are piccolo duets... That one's gonna annoy the absolute living hell out of the judges, lol.
Anyone ever played Doppler's Hungroise Fantasy Pastorale or Aires Valaques? Those are my solos... Well... 2 of them.. and then I'm playing Burton's Sonatina, which isn't anything really major.

I can't wait until next year, middle school band just doesn't have that same feel as high school band. And half our section who have been playing for 4 or 5 years now are just learning how to actually play. And Britany's fingers stick up in the air. And Katie's thumb is all the way around her flute. (Ok, so is Kassey's, but that's because of the way her thumb it)
We don't have chairs/ seats, but she did put all the bad flutes on the left and the good ones on the right (well, if your facing her, viceversa if it's her facing us) Hannah and I are better than Katie. (Or at least, Katie and I are very, very close) but Katie is going to ditch band next year for Color Guard.
Luckily, we're going to different highschools. <3
Lets see... what else. Oh yes, I want a new flute. I bought mine used 4 (almost 5) years ago. It's your basic student flute. Nothing special. I want an openholed flute so bad.
My friend, Kassey, just got a Piccolo and an openholed flute - but then, she doesn't have to pay for horses.

the real teapot Tala Kaze Ohh! I'm a flutist! Let's chat. (woohoo overly hyper) it's flautist not flutist, get it right at least, but yeah i love the flute, woo Actually, flutist is right too. If I remember correctly from when this topic was brought up before in this thread, flutist is an amateur flute player, whereas a flautist is a professional flute player. 3nodding

I'm a little obsessed with music, but it's nothing compared to my flute obsession. I have a concert flute, a professional open-holed flute, and a piccolo. My goal in life, music wise, is to get a contra-bass flute (about 10g's eek ). My flute line at school sits and does homework most of the time during class. We do have a guy flute player, the first in years. There were two others, but one is a clarinet and the other on drumline now. I know what you mean when you say you feel weird playing while the other people in you line do something else. It's really rude and a shame when people do that, but all you can do is keep playing and learn some really cool things like multiphonics (playing two or three notes at the same time) outside of school and just worry about you.
stare Sorry I wrote so much. sweatdrop

I have NYSSMA in 2 weeks and I can't even play my peice all the way through yet gonk
on a better note I got to spend the whole day in the chorus room and on stage with my friends because it was march madness day and all of my classes were going (except for me obviously because I went to the music wing...) it was so fun because I got to hang out with some people I never get to see in the band. It was so awesome to hang out with the line girls and Emily (guard) and casey (tuba) because all we did was talk about the new show and how, compared to last year, we're probably going to suck a** but we're going to have fun anyway heart

Does anyone have tips on how to clean the little grease spots on the flute?
