"So, just watched Spectacular Spider-Man season 2 episode 10, Gangland. In short it was incredible, unbelievably incredible. In medium here's what we got, Silvermane (in super suit), Tombstone, Doctor Octopus, and Spider-Man all fighting each other to opera. If you have yet to see The Spectacular Spider-Man youtube has a lot of episodes and it seriously is pretty much the cartoon any comic fan of the web-slinger has been waiting for. The Venom episodes are especially fantastic."

Just watched Futurama: Benders Game. That was pretty good.

Man, I truely hope they do end up making more episodes. Because when you compare Futurama to show like Simpsons and Family Guy, To Me Futurama come out the victor. Beater Jokes, better Plots (that do carry over) It's just a better show.

Are they only showing those on Cable or something? The first season was really fantastic and I've been waiting to see more.

I watched the 70th anniversary of Pinocchio that came out recently. And I swear there used to be something in the movie that showed Pinocchio saving his friend that turned into a donkey. Am I mistaken?

You have to understand that Tarantino wrote Death Proof to give me the cap I need to some day write a paper on the evolving gender dynamic on his films from Resevoir Dogs through to Death Proof. That, and to stage a goddamn brilliant car chase.

Evolving gender dynamic? Hmm. I've never actually looked at it like that before, but I can definitely see that. Just a shame that he decided to do Inglorious Basterds before 'Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill," since the former is shaping up to be something of a testosterone-fueled Nazi kill-fest, while the latter is more of the same. The "girl-power" message of Death Proof was certainly more prominent than it was in something like Kill Bill, but the absurdity necessary to make it seem like a "Grindhouse" film made it less effective.

And yeah, I'll give you the car chase. It, and the contagious "Chick Habit," almost redeemed the movie. Tarantino is basically a cinematic kleptomaniac, and he loves his homages. But Death Proof proved that they can't carry an entire movie.
The concept of Grindhouse had me excited as hell. I mean, I'm a huge fan of B-movies, and a Kurt Rusell/Quentin Tarintino team-up had huge potential, but it just kind of fell flat for me. Planet Terror, on the other hand, I loved. It homaged the genre perfectly. Maybe I'm just a sucker for zombie movies. The fake trailers were extremely well-done as well, though I had to resort to YouTube, since the only one included on the DVDs was Machete. stare

I know a lot of women who have read Twilight, and heard a lot of commentary on it and overall the fanbase is not pleased with the first film. The only positive I've ever heard is that the guy who played Edward Cullen is cute, so there is at present a great deal of latitude available. Besides as far as teenagers go, you can put whatever the ******** you want on the screens and with enough hype they'll watch it. You only need their ten dollars on the way in, not the way out.

I would totally jump at the chance to go into that pit and fight for the director's chair and script for Twilight 2, for the cause of you know rehabilitating this noxious exploitative s**t into something that isn't programming girls with things that are better elucidated elsewhere on a different day as well as for Jacob- the native north american werewolf- who comes into prominence in the sequel while Edward is off in Europe. I can't even remember when I saw a portrayal of contemporary native north americans in an American film.

I love that Jacob is native, that was something that gave me a bit of hope in the first film, that we might get something interesting there but of course that potential was wasted utterly and looks to get wasted even further as the films progress more or less how the novels did.

There's the skeleton of a great saga in Twilight, and sure it's always preferable to build up something new to be trying to sit there and sift through the ashes of a mess, but I'd rather subvert a pop culture juggernaut then try to compete with it. I mean s**t, we're comic book fans living in an era whose foundation was built on rescued characters.

Frankly, I'd love to see that. From what I've seen, the main draw of the Twilight books is that girls find Edward to be their "perfect man." They're poorly written and poorly plotted, but they're still a sensation. If someone were to inject them with a little bit of intelligence, and maybe strive to tell a good story instead of preying on the insecurities of its readers, I think it could do a world of good. But I really don't see any studio jumping on board with that when it's so much easier to just put out exploitative drivel.

They're a sensation because people will read anything. It's not like the Harry Potter books are a master work either, but they're not blatantly offensive. They're a fun romp through the worlds fantastic where no one ever has fetus eaten out of them and no one ever obsessively watches someone else sleep. There are two overarching problems with the Twilight series:
- The romantic lead is a disturbingly accurate stand-in for Joseph Smith, and the book is fraught with Mormonism in a way that has made all the ex-Mormons I know squicked out.
- It's ridiculously, flamboyantly and patronizingly anti-woman. And somehow manage to sell that to women, with frosting on it.

The only way I could see to make those books palatable is to take out everything and start all over using only the following: "Girl meets boy. Boy is vampire. Love happens. Hijinx ensue, and there's a werewolf." Stop selling to girls that the vision of the "perfect man" is an obsessive stalker who sparkles that they must completely subserviate themselves to. STOP SELLING THIS IDEA AS "NORMAL!"

I'll quote a Twilight fan for you...

Quote:
instead of them being stereotyped and being afraid of the sun, they sparkle.

Sun doesn't destroy them...it makes them prettier. Such a horrible stereotype that the sun destroys vampires. When will people learn. rolleyes

Instead of combusting or turn into charred flesh, they glitter like a bunch of fairies.

actually the sun does kill them. sweatdrop nevermind.. i read the whole series.... I like that kind of make believe.. that is the point of fictional stories.. it's new ideas of what could or may happen in a dream state. *shrugs* least it is to me.

But since more people will most likely comment the sun since they are in a rainy area only slowly burns them..causing them to sparkle like a bunch of fairies. but if it's a full on sunny day they turn to dust.. or so the end of the second book states.

Yeah, that hits most of the points that really get under my skin, including the Eve-complex. This series is abysmal, and what I find perhaps most disturbing about this Tragic-Abusive-Self-Destructive-Obsessive-Unhealthy-"Love"-Story is that it was written by a women, the film screenplayed by a woman, it is directed by a woman, it's read by and watched by and adored by thousands and thousands of women...
This story is ingrained in our culture. This man is the desirable man, this girl is who girls are supposed to emulate. This is touted as a love story.
It warms my heart that there are other people who can see this mess for what it is, but it disturbs me how many can't. How many people see this co-dependent obsessive trainwreck of a relationship as an ideal? How many people think Edward is dreamy? Or that Jacob is dreamy (despite qualifying for NAMBLA)?
"If a boy is abusive, controlling and sexually assaults you, it just means he really really likes you. You should throw your life away for him toute suite."
