Grave nodded in unison with Ube's question, but was chilled to the bone when Lelaus merely gave a catty, knowing grin and said nothing in response. From somewhere behind them he heard Abrid's baratone say "You'll see..." What was that supposed to mean? Okay, Grave was scared. He was Terrified.

Ubel stared at Abrid and Lelaus, whimpering quietly and slumping a bit. "Oh, no," he whispered, tightening his hold on Grave's hand and huddling closer, trembling.

Lelaus "Padmir headed to the Melancholia District, walking the very paths you walk on now."
Abrid "We know this to be true becase the Skryers asked the trapped souls we are about to see, and they told us the whole tale. We warn you, the souls are horrific and heartbreaking to behold..."
It was then that the students had made their way to the area of the Melancholia District where the Scorched Souls reside. At a glance, one would think the city was shimmering like in a wave of heat. But on closer inspection, the shimmering waves of distorted light were individual forms. The people who had once been obliterated in those spots by weapons too horrible to recall left behind their souls. The matter of their bodies had long since been ridden to dust that had been ground into the forgotten, but their essence of being - their very personalities locked into the energy of the soul with all of their emotions, memories and pains were burned to the spots where they died. If one looked hard enough, the loose shape of the Empyreans could be made out, their faces a collection of their features distorted by extreme emotions and constantly swimming over the plains of their heads as if the noses, mouths and eyes could find no purchase - no safe place to rest.

Elanin smiled. "Yeah, it does sound interesting." She was calm again. When she heard the other professor, she smiled. "Looks like we'll get to find out," She nodded her head and kept her eyes sharp. Scorched Souls... Hmmm... Whatever could that mean?

Torrid's hand left Grave's to grip his shoulder tightly, arm across his back. Scorched souls? That doesn't sound good...
He swallowed and tried to steel himself against the dark cloud of fear in his mind, but he was losing the battle. His hands started to quake slightly, and the the darkness seemed to press closer.

Morrow held Dariyn tightly. He looked over the somewhat fire. He growled protectively, knowing Dariyn would be scared. He moved closer to the group and closer to Grave. He needed his own reassurance now. "What happened to them, Professor?"

Ubel felt his stomach seem to bottom out at the sight of the Scorched Souls. His eyes widened and stared, the tiniest of sounds coming from the stunned Melancholy, his entire body beginning to tremble. "Spirits," he choked out, clutching at Grave's hand tightly.

Nadyrr wondered why everyone seemed so wound up, he looked to Elanin to see if she was as frightened as the rest. Not sure if she needed it or not he spoke in a hushed tone, "Don't worry, I wouldn't let anything hurt you. And the professors are here." It seemed silly to be afraid when they had two professors with them, plus wasn't it worth the dark and uncertainty to find something new? Nadyrr considered trying to speak to some of the other students, but a chill of uneasiness came to him when he thought of talking to them and he let the idea go.

And then she saw. She took a deep breath and claped a hand over her mouth, "Oh my..." She murmured, feeling intense sadness at the sight of what had happened to them. "What has the power to do this sort of thing?" Part of her wanted to know, another was too scared to know.

Aysel's eyes widened further, and she opened her mouth to speak, but no noise came out. Still clinging to Antigone, she rushed forward to rejoin Ubel, Grave, and the other various people around them. She was terrified....and yet her interest was piqued. "Professor...?" she asked softly, "Why do they look so sad...? It's like they're in pain... "

His eyes were wide, and there was almost a morbid fascination there...yes, he was terrified, arms around Morrow, but also, there was a bit of the scholar's curiosity...however strange that might seem.

Nadyrr stopped in place as the souls came into view, his mouth opened slightly and his eyes were wide. Something horrible had happened here and now...the souls were stuck. A profound sadness overtook him, he was not fearful just sad for those beings that had created these mimics of life. His uncertaintly of others and shyness forgotten he speaks up, "How did this happen?" there was upset in his voice, this was horrible it should not be he thought.

Kallisto hung towards the back of the group, unsure of the things she was seeing and hearing. Bravado only carried you so far but she bit her lower lip and trudged forward, close to the group but far enough away not to intrude on anyone.
Red eyes searched the dark areas of alcoves as they passed, the hair on her neck refusing to relax. The dark atmosphere made her hypersensitive to sounds and movements. Everything took on a ghostly demeanor that awakened a helix of fear and courage that had her walking relatively slowly.
As they reached the Scorched Souls, Kallisto stopped, squeaking. Frightened, she hurried forward to catch up with the group and kept glancing back, sure she felt eyes watching her. Why were these ghosts here? Why didn't anyone help them? A fearful frown came onto her face as she huddled near the group.
