Still burning bright, Kishi swung back and forth a few times to give himself momentum before bending at waist level to wrap his arms around his legs. He blindly followed the length of his leg until his fingers came into contact with reached the rope keeping him in the air and moved a few feet above the knot. By shifting his weight onto his arms, he loosened the loop around his foot enough to allow him to slip free and drop onto the forest floor, body still emitting light.
He felt about with his hands to maneuver himself against a large tree trunk and listen to his surrounding as he waited for his spell to wear off. Nothing sounded out of the ordinary. In fact, the 'woman' had returned to bathing herself as though it was perfectly fine to have caught someone peeping. He didn't know whether he should be relieved that there wasn't any immediately retaliation or worried for the exact same reasons. Either way, it wasn't as though he could do much apart from being a siting duck. "Does that mean I can keep watching?" he asked loudly enough for the witch to still hear him despite the distance before taking a few cautious steps backwards, changing location, until his hands came into contact with another tree trunk. Kishi had yet the opportunity to see Jamie's body up close or hear his voice let alone realize that he had been referring to a man all this time. Meanwhile, his sprite had flown back to Jamie. Although it had been blinded by the bright light as well, Koroki spirits saw the world differently from most living creatures and could still pinopint the witch's location due to the presence of his spirit.

Jamie merely gave the koroki a look of mild disinterest. He preferred his solitude, but the boy wasn’t harming anything, and he didn’t appear to be hostile. “I would prefer that you not.” The man’s voice was soft and tranquil and of a medium pitch, masculine and feminine at the same time. “As long as you remain peaceful, however, so too shall I." Jamie continued to wash, finishing his bath in silence, with only the pleasant sounds of the forest to grace their ears. Once he was satisfied that he was completely clean, he slowly approached the bank of the streams and stepped out of the water, revealing that he was in fact, very much a man.
He didn’t bother to dress, leaving his robes by the water; he approached the koroki boy with graceful and fluid movements, tranquil as the brook gently flowing through the glade. Water glistened on his smooth pale skin. Droplets slid gently down his body, tracing the lighting tattoos that glowed with arcane enery. “Why have you ventured this deep into the forest? Are you lost, little one?” Jamie didn’t get visitors very often, or ever. He preferred it that way, but if this small koroki had simply gotten lost, Jamie would gladly show him the way out of the forest.

It was much faster than she'd realised. She should have expected that from how fast it had lost her when she'd chased it. Kai was forced to abort her attack before she could roast herself as well as her enemy and just barely got her arms up in time to block its attack. "Intruder," It hissed, red eyes glowing, and Kai snarled back her defiance even as its blow cracked the bone-plates on her arm and shoved her backwards. She chose to go with the flow, legs changing to that of a frog as she leaped back to give herself some distance and attempted to roast the b*****d once more.

She never got the chance. In a blur of movement, it had followed her, jumping in almost perfect synchronicity as she leapt backwards and it matched her. When they landed, it smashed a fist into her gut, cracking the bone plate armor there and definitely bruising a few internal organs, then slammed a knee into the exact same spot its fist had just been, and while she was doubled over, hammered both its fists against the back of her head so she got to enjoy the lovely taste of dirt.
Curling up, she rolled over, and when it bent to inspect her, she attempted to spit another spear of fire at it.
Kishi was still glowing like the twelve suns, but that did not seem to bother the witch one bit. "Fair enough." It wasn't as though he could actually see anything though since the light was as blinding for him as it was for any other being in his immediate proximity. "I don't want to end up as witch stew. I'm too skinny to provide much nutriment and despite what I look like, I'm not a child so I wouldn't do as a sacrifice." He sat down, back against tree bark to wait his spell out.
"Funny that you ask, but it's actually that thing floating above your head that led me here," the emphasis on the word 'thing' showed how irritated Kishi was as he had rarely referred to his lifelong companion as that. There was a buzz in the back of Kishi's mind as their connection was re established for the spirit to direct the equivalent of a snort in his direction. Out of childish spite, Kishi was tempted to cut his side of their link until he caught on what his companion had been trying to do. "But you could say I'm lost as I've never been in this area of the forest before. Have you lived here for a while? Isn't there anyone else around? I don't think this forest is the safest to live in."
If 'she' could live here despite the creatures lurking a bout, surely she must be quite powerful and would be an asset in the future should he befriend 'her'. Not to mention that the area was secluded enough to use as a hideout should things go south back at the HQ.

It responded by setting its foot firmly on her throat, quite literally choking off her attack. Baring her teeth, she put her hands around its ankle, arms swelling monstrously with muscle, and threw him off her, briefly savouring the look of surprise it had had on its face. Then she rolled to her feet and took off on all fours, body low to the ground as her fur and bone plates changed to blend in better with the greenery. She needed to get away, just for a little bit, to focus on healing herself for a while. Then she'd come back, and make the b*****d pay.

Before she could properly get her healing going, she felt something slam into her side and hurl her against a nearby tree. "Gah!" she choked, body frantically growing flexible before the impact could crack her spine. Her body bent, strained, and then she was rapidly scrambling up the tree, looking to hide in its foliage, or at least have that foliage slow her opponent down in order to give herself time to heal. Another attack like the one that had cracked her ribs and she would be a goner. She might be relatively whole now, but she was still far from her best, and she needed to make sure her body wouldn't fail her at a critical moment before she could afford to attack.

Kai breathed a sigh of relief as she finally, finally got a moment to herself to heal. Strength filled her veins as muscle and bone re-knitted, and the stabbing pain from her cracked ribs faded away. Kai could work through pain just fine thank you very much, but it wasn't as if she enjoyed it.
Peeking through the foliage as she wondered just what was taking so long for the wolf-man-forest-creature to find her, she found her opponent just standing beneath her tree, staring up at her. It looked amused, more than anything else, and its perfect stillness just underlined to Kai how it had deliberately waited, giving her the time to heal. b*****d!
Kai prepared to teach it not to underestimate her, bone forming under the skin of her fore-arm as she focused on condensing her internal energy around the soon-to-be-projectile...

Before she could launch her attack, the strange, stupidly strong, wolf-man-forest-hate hybrid ran off. Kai blinked. What the hell had just happened? It came hunting her, focused on her as some kind of intruder, kicked her around for a while (embarrassing as that was to admit), and then it stopped to give her time to heal, and then simply ran off? The chimera's eyes narrowed. Was it taunting her? The bone plates on her torso started to twist and curl unpleasantly at the very thought of it. Her first instinct was to charge right after it and demand a re-match, but then her more pragmatic side reasserted itself. It had quite thoroughly kicked her a**, and she hadn't even managed to land a scratch on it. Pursuit would be stupid.
Slowly, carefully, Kai crept down from the tree trunk, ears alert and swiveling towards the slightest sound. Maybe this was a trap, a trick to lower down her guard. That was certainly easier for her pride to swallow than the idea that she simply hadn't been worth the creature's time to finish off properly.

By the time Kai finally reached the ground with nothing jumping out to attack her, she was forced to admit that yes, the creature she'd been hunting really had run off because she just wasn't worth its time, and no, it wasn't laying in ambush for her. Grumbling quietly to herself, the chimera slunk off into the undergrowth and concentrated on healing herself more fully, just in case it came back, even though it probably wouldn't. Something else might still pop in to see what all the ruckus had been about though, and Kai was feeling a lot more cautious than was her usual wont after the very thorough a**-kicking she'd just received.

Kai left the scene of battle quickly, just in case the wolf-man decided to come back and finish her off, but once safely away, her thoughts turned dark. The encounter had made it clear that she was far too weak. As a pet of her owners, Kai was ashamed that she had been so weak. She could only be grateful that her owners had not been there to witness her humiliation. No doubt it would have amused them, but afterwards, they would have punished her, and rightly so, for being such a weak pet. Kai shuddered at the very idea of what her punishments might have been. She needed to get stronger.
When another of those odd, flaming deer passed by, Kai ignored it. Yes, it would be nice to catch it, play with it, and hear its screams before consuming it, but Kai had no time for that. There was no challenge to it. Kai needed to find other opponents to get stronger. Strong enough to beat the wolf-man the next time she encountered it.
It was the only way she could possibly ever repay her owners for granting her the gift of life.

Another of those stupid flaming deer. Kai let that one pass too, without harming it, but she was starting to get irritated. She needed stronger opponents. The deer hardly counted as anything more than prey, and what she needed was something that would actually fight back. Maybe another sphinx; the first one she'd found had fought pretty well, even injured her pretty well, though that was partly due to her own over-confidence too. Or maybe another crazy human, preferably less stinky and more skilled than the embarrassment she'd already dealt with. Anything would do, Kai would even fight a bug if it was big and mean enough.

Okay, the bug thing? That had been a joke. Kai hadn't really expected to run into a giant bug of all things. It was taller than she was! Kai stared, rather nonplussed at the hissing, writhing bug, already starting to charge at her, then shrugged and sent a spear of energy at it. Well, she had said she would fight even a bug if it was big and mean enough. This bug was definitely big enough, and with any luck, would be a sufficient challenge for her to improve her skills.

Despite how awkward and unwieldy the bug looked, it moved pretty fast. Dodging Kai's fiery attack, it charged and managed to slash Kai's shoulder with one of its scythe-like fore-arms. Hissing with annoyance, Kai leapt back and lined up another energy spear for it. It was beneath her to close claw to claw with a bug of all things, no matter how big and nasty it was. Besides, she didn't want bug guts all over her fur. Blood was one thing. Bug guts were something entirely different. All squishy, and nasty smelling, and she hadn't yet met a bug that could scream properly, so that was another point against them.

By lucky coincidence, Kai's spear managed to catch the bug just as it was rearing up to (apparently) scream obscenities at Kai in bug language. Not that Kai really knew what all that hissing meant, but it certainly sounded angry enough to be spitting curses. Her spear caught it right below its head, in the underbelly between its foremost limbs. It knocked the bug right over with an unholy shriek, and by the way it wriggled and thrashed, Kai knew it was in its death throes.
Nonetheless, Kai was impressed. A bug that actually managed to scream almost like a thinking creature. That really was quite amazing.
