French is my third language, and I'm not fluent at it in the least...I just can't catch on to what French people are talking about. They talk too fast!

French is my third language too. I also speak a little Spanish and pretty fluent Tagalog, my native language. It's from the Philippines. My cousins think I'm pretty much insane for attempting to learn French. But I'm starting to catch on to what people are talking about. My teacher last year would have us watch French movies (without captions, I might add). At first it was hard, but I began to catch on and would translate or explain what was happening to my bf who was in my class. We have French together this year too xd Sorry, off topic... sweatdrop But I like French. It's pretty easy for me since I'm also starting to learn and understand Italian. So does that make it four languages for me?

French is also my third language i try practicing it with my french teacher from last year and she tells me im gatting good at it eventhough i find some pronounciations difficult to say i try my best! whee

I am studying French at school, although the only sentences I can speak with confidence are "Je ne parle pas Français. Parlez-vous Anglais/Portugais?" However I can read a little in French. I'd need a dictionary to write in French, but I lost it somewhere crying

Le Français est ma langue maternelle mais sa fait quelque années que je vie dans une communauté anglophone. Mais, de ces jours j'étudie en Anglais et en Français à l'université. Je m'excuse tellement, ma grammaire a toujours été dégueulasse.

As to the discussion on Québecois French and Canadian-French, I find that it gets harder to understand the Québecois French speakers the more north of Québec you go. And don't forget Acadian French, that's a slightly different dialect as well, near the New Brunswick area.

Merci bien. exclaim

Bonjour! J'aime la musique classique aussi! J'adore Chopin et Holst.

I think you say regarder la tele (with the accents which I don't know how to use on my computer) because you're talking about what you like not what we are doing or commanding us to do. or something like that if I'm making any sense ^.^'

I'm not a native french speaker but I'm in French 5 at my school.

Indeed, it is regarder, it is an "infinitif" (=not conjugated verb, equivalent to "...ing") just like you'd say "I like watching TV

MiasmaMoon : Non désolée... Par contre si tu veux de l'aide avec le français "classique" c'est sans aucun problème!
(Sorry but Cajun isn't my thing, none the less if you need any help with classical french, here I am ;] )

1) When you're talking of a girl/woman using possessive pronouns like "my", "her", "his" you must use the genre of the person you're talking of, for example "ma prof de français", or "sa prof de français".
Hope this might help

2) Example = english / exemple = french

3) Laquel lequel etc : it's an equivalent of "which" or "which one".

Salut, toute le monde! Je m'appelle Angie. heart
(Err, Je suis un peu timide d'utiliser le français ici. Désolé pour toutes erreurs~.)

Pouvais-vous m'aider avec les accents?

I really don't know how to write them or when to use them. Is it something you just have to know, or is there a way to learn when to use them?

Mon prof français a dit qu'elle a pris un classe separée pour apprendre des accents...

Also, to add, I absolutely love Quebec French. I think it's nice.

I never knew French would be so difficult! ):
It's so hard to absorb, but I guess it's also the fact that this is the first foreign language that I have ever tried to learn properly.

Does anyone recommend any good books or programs that would be useful?

DISCLAIMER: my French grammar is horrible and I don't know how to type accents.

Quand vous utilisez la lettre "E", l'accent qui est /, est prononce comme "A" en anglais. L'accent (the other way... it won't show up on the forum) est prononce comme "Air" en anglais. Je ne sais qu'aux autres lettres.

Oh my gosh it is hard emo

I have about 6 books on French total, but i use three the most.

Larousse French and English dictionary - forwwarning, this thing is THICK!

Idiots Guide to Learning French - this is a GREAT book i think, it shows the words and stuff in French, English then gives a pronounciation guide.

Idiots Guide to French Verbs - VERY in depth

I bought them all used off Amazon and really got a deal.
Great material, but i wish i had more time to devote to French.
