im the only flute player in my band(i in 8th grade...)and i have the crappiest flute in the world....i have to pull the head joint out so far it wiggles and is about to fall out... crying but we didnt know...wasnt our fault!i should(suposedly)be getting a new flute before band camp...and all the shiny is wearing off too...i rubbed a new whole in it this weekend at honor band!but i was so glad i got in the band....heck yes.........i was 2nd alt.i got a patch too!ill put it on my state jacket wen im in 10th grade...lol,and i also got 4th chair at EOBDA!!!(eastern oklahoma band directors acc.) mrgreen i messed up 5 times on my tape,so if wouldve did it again i proably wouldve got 1st chair!ah well... heart

I just recently discovered mold growing in my flute. >.< Does anyone have any sort of inkling as to how to clean her out? It's pretty nasteh.

Ewww! I'd get antiseptic, definately. That's gross. Maybe talk to your band teacher?
What kind of flutes do you guys have? My dream flute would have a B joint, e keys, open-hole. I have a student model right now, and it's decent but pretty crappy if you want to get good-sounding high notes.

Kito, do you not clean your flute out each time after you play it? eek If you don't... you most definately should. It does WONDERS. Just go to the nearest music store and you can usually a wooden rod to use for your flute and a simple cloth. It's nothing much, but at least it keeps stuff from growing in your flute... And it does wonders for your pads too.
My dream flute.... Oh my... I already have a professional flute, Pearl Quantz model 765 to be exact, which has a B joint, split E-mechanism, Gizmo, blah blah blah, off-set G, yeah. I've got my eye on a Miramatsu though.... And oh my... It's a GORGEOUS flute... And I love the tone... Unfortunately, it's about $10,000. I should be getting it for college next year though...

I haven't talked to my BD yet because, put simply, he hates me and would probably give me detention or something. That's what I get for being a freshie. >.<
As for the cleaning-after-playing, I don't usually get the opportunity. I don't own a cleaning rod, but even if I did, he lets us out after the bell has already rang. Ugh. The closest music store to here is an hour away, too, so there's nary a chance to pay a visit. My family doesn't get out much.
Plus, I haven't really given it a good cleaning since the sixth grade -- I stopped playing at the beginning of seventh and recently took it up again, as some of you know, and haven't had my cleaning rod since then. It sort of disappeared in the intermediate school band room, I guess (we start playing in the fourth grade 'round these parts).

take that sucker home. clean it. and if he lets you out so late clean it before and get yourself a nice pad-saver rod (long fuzzy sticks for the body and toe joint that soak up spit)
My flute has pixie sticks ingrained in it because we take pixie shots before every competition. It won't come out. I've tried gonk

Play flute...have been since 6th grade ^_^...i'm a sophmore in high school....so what...4 almost 5 yrs of playing...hum...

It's too bad my school doesn't really allow the switching of instruments -- not that there's much to switch to, anyway. I'd really like to play other, less popular instruments. One of my best friends plays the harp, for example; wouldn't that be so fun? I'd also like the bassoon, but my band doesn't offer it. Keh.
Not that I don't love the flute, of course! 'Twas my first love and will always remain my favourite. I'd just like to try different things sometimes, know what I mean?

im a flutist to in my band we have this thing called big sister little sister and at every game we give or sister a presint. but my sister is mean(she only picked me b/c me and her brother are bestfriends) and didn't ever give me anything and she's the band presidint. I used to play percution but then my band teacher said i s**k (but it wasn't my falt there were no other percution people in my group to help me) so i went back to flute. biggrin p.s. the flutes in my band are preps to besides me im a...... i dont know what i am question but all the other flutes hate me b/c i dont act like them cry
