Those piccolos are mostly for show but they do look cool! My flute section is actually really nice to eachother!

I play a Gemeinhardt flute and pic and they're both very well made. Neither of my instruments have had major problems since I've gotten them and I've had my flute for five years and my pic for 2 or 3

All the section leaders I've had so far are just. Well, stupid to say the least. I can see why you'd be made fun of, but I guess that's just to be expected. I'm sure it's not that bad. I mean, you still enjoy being section leader, don't you?

As I've mentioned before, my band doesn't appear to have any section leaders. We're not very tight-knit, so to speak; we all have our little cliques (you could say) that we stay in. The flute section is the largest in our band with seventeen -- which is quite a lot for a band of sixty-nine.

I finally found a guild where I "belong".... *smiles all dorky like*
I play the flute as well... And piccolo, and a few other choice instruments, but the flute is easily my strong point...

PicaPiccolo I know this is the flute guild and I kind of have a question. Is Gemeinhardt the best brand for piccolo, and if so-what types/models? It really depends on what it's for... If it's for MB, then you want a plastic piccolo cause it's more durable, and Gemeinhardt is the way to go. Otherwise, if it's for CB, then you want a wooden one, which you'll pay a pretty penny for, and the best way to go with those is probably a Yamaha.

My marching band has (sadly) only ever had 3 flute boys in the last 10 years. 2 had to be forced into it and I never met them and the third switched to Baritone after his first year. He pretty much rocks and he still came to flute sectionals (even though we tormented him with girly things) First things first, I'd like to thank you PROFUSELY for sticking to the flute heart and second of all, We're girls first and flutes second do try to think of it that way. my tips: 1) be willing to goof off a bit and do NOT yell. sticks in the mud are no fun. 2) chocolate and tissues are always appreciated. 3) newbies are your friend too. 4) try the party technique. if you have a holiday/birthday/event of any sort coming: PARTY! tell them to bring their flutes as well and give it 2 parts fun and 1 part hard work. yes they will melt together at points and they'll giggle in the middle of a song but let them. It is a party after all. make it a tradition as well write down the date and have the same parties and do the same things. (are you a senior? ask the juniors closest to you to keep it going.) reason won't work: we're girls. and we will refuse to be whipped into ANY shape or sort. Good luck!

I was wondering: could anyone provide me with the name and conductor of an easy (If you are from New York- NYSSMA level 5) solo?
It'd be much appreciated if you could. I'll try to get you a definition of exactly WHAT a level five peice would be...
the only level 5 peice I know right now would be Sonata number 6 in G minor by Vivaldi.

our fluteboy (the one that I knew) was Mike. We had one section leader and another senior. they did NOT like eachother and basiccaly ruled as section leader together... when they weren't at eachothers throats...
so we were practicing this one set where the flutes connect to the mellophones (Mikes instrument this year... yes he is a band whore but I'm going to miss him. yes he is a senior as well) so I had Katie (leader) and Jen (other senior) arguing over my head about whether the curve was too flat or too round I was whimpering and obeying orders as usual because I hate it when they fight. Mike saw this and basically came over, whacked them with his dot book and said "she doesn't need to move left OR right she needs to move one step foward!"
Yep. He's pretty awesome. It's funny because he's actually dating another of out flutes, Meghan. She switched to mello this year because we were low and she can play really good. So now we have 2 former flutes dating making flute x mas very weird domokun heart

Ascend I'm a flutist, too, though I prefer the trombone. ^^;; Sorry! Keltzy, all the flutists in my band are snooty, too. XD They're either pretty asians with boyfriends or guys that are presumed gay. confused i'm a flutist too, i'm in a flute choir. Oh i'm switching to trombone in my band class. I'm a little late into the board huh?
