Here's when I realized how stupid Snyder was: Quote: The worst case scenario - Alan puts the movie on his DVD player on a cold Sunday in London and watches and says 'Yeah, that doesn't suck too bad.' Apparently, Wizard misquoted him, and he actually said "Best case scenario," but that still doesn't alleviate the douchiness or idiocy of the comment. Alan Moore doesn't live in London, and has explicitly said on several occasions that he has no intention to see the film. I couldn't find Moore's response, which I thought was great. While looking for it, though, I stumbled onto an article about Alan Moore's thoughts on American television - Burn Notice is Alan Moore approved. cool LOST and Heroes are not. (Though that's hardly surprising.)

Went into Watchmen with EXTREMELY low expectations, and it wasn't bad. I might even see it a second time...

I definitely need to give it another watch. I'm still digesting it, but tentatively, I liked it. Some of the departures don't sit too well with me, but others do. I really liked the bit with Veidt and Dreidberg after Dr. Manhattan blinked off.
Definitely not as good as the original GN. I hear it get called overrated a lot, but I don't see that. It's probably the most brilliant character study of all time, and puts forth a lot of philosophical ideas about authority and moral standards that the medium hadn't dared to express much beforehand. It really can't be topped. The story and the storytelling techniques were perfect for the medium.

I shall quote Brian K. Vaughn (from the most recent WIRED magazine) on the matter for it sums up my own feelings pretty well. "Its like making a stage play of Citizen Kane. I guess it could be OK, but why? The medium is the message."
As such, I went into Watchmen with ridiculously low expectations and found it likable enough. The whole experience of watching this story I know so well go at it's pace rather then reading it at my own was sort of disorienting though. I'm not even sure how to explain it.
I know what they were trying to accomplish with the soundtrack - but golly did I find that to be bleh. I LOL'd at the wordless rendition of Tears for Fears' Everybody wants to Rule the World playing in the background right before Adrian gets shot at in the lobby as he speaks about OMG Alexander the Great. So. Dumb. The only song I thought that fit well within the story and wasn't just a hallow call back to American history/"They are in this time period now!" was Dylan's The Times they are A-Changin'.
And is every Snyder film going to have a awkward, way too shiny and too long sex scene in it - or is he just reserving that for his comic book films?

I really enjoyed it. I felt it was the closest adaption based on an Alan Moore book we've had so far. At least plot-wise (as far as I can remember). I don't know about "the message," because I don't feel like analysing it.

Got the WW DVD 2 disc set today. great stuff. Good documentaries. The movie itself was a joy. Nathan Fillion stole the show as steve trevor, but top to bottom I really liked it. I highly recommend it.
