Merlin laughed as his mate joined him with a loud splash, shaking water out of his face so he could see her better when she emerged. "Well aren't you a dare devil," he chuckled. "Pretty soon you'll be cliffdiving with Ianthe." The multi-hued fox stepped up into the rocky shore and shook himself dry, preparing to sun himself dry and spend time with Ianthe until one of Caspian and Marina's children came charging by.
"If you have seen your family and us, I believe you've seen everyone," Merlin told him. "Nerissa was at the cliffs last I knew, and no one else has been spotted for some time."
"Good morning, Nerissa," Ianthe greeted the younger member with a nod. "How've you been recently?" The fox seemed to have been keeping to herself for awhile, perhaps after the exodus of some of the other members, and Ianthe was concerned for her. Above all else, the Elder wanted all of her tribe to experience the newfound happiness that had taken a grip on the Islands.
"I'm sure he's fine, Marina," Caspian assured his mate for the umpteenth time. He truly beleived Levi was capable of handling himself, and that he would return to his family when he was ready.
As Marina walked off, Caspian nudged Mortimer and Nadia awake, sending them after Sika to go to the ship. They would catch up to her soon, and he and Marina would catch up after that.
Trotting over to his mate, Caspian nuzzled her affectionately. "Our children are smart, Marina. Levi will find his way home."

White paws padded softly through the lust green inland of the island. Sani had lost track of how many times the beauty of the island had taken her breath away. It was so beautiful here, so exotic. Sani wondered if there was a tribe around or perhaps other foxes that lived here. From the moment she set foot on the island, she knew she wanted to call it her home.
After some time of walking and stumbling down a rocky hill, Sani ended up on a small beach. It was the perfect place to take a rest and admire the ocean. The water here was so clear and the sun was so warm, it was unlike any place she had ever been before. It was a very pretty place, yes, but Sani was somewhat of a social fox and she needed others around. If there was a tribe around what would accept her, then this place really would be perfect.

Ianthe's ears twitched at the sound of a set of paws on the sand. Unable to account for that pair, she looked over and was surprised to see a stranger. It had been a long time since anyone outside of the tribe members had been here, and Ianthe was surprisingly happy to see someone else.
"You look lost, stranger," she called out, inviting her to come join the rest of them.

"I hope so," Marina murmured, nipping affectionately at Caspian's ear. Knowing that the rest of the tribe was happy and she was a carer and that people were counting on her not to bring them down, Marina offered her mate a half smile and licked his cheek quickly, then bounced forward, her tail twitching behind her.
As they got to the ship, her smile widened slightly; there had been so much heartache here, in her favorite place in the world, it was good to see a new face.
"Hello, I'm--"
"Ianthe says we gotta meet at the ship," Aidan informed them, nodding to himself. "We gotta go," After a quiet moment, Aidan asked, although more hesitantly and less brashly, "So you guys haven't seen Levi then?" He knew Mom was worried about him, and that was...totally the only reason he was asking. Really. Dad could say 'he'll be back' all he wanted, but like half the Tribe had been wiped out. What if Levi had been with them? Although Aidan would never, ever, EVER admit it to anybody, he loved the little runt, and it pained him just a bit to think of him lying dead somewhere with birds plucking out his eyes or something.
Shaking his head quickly, he focused back on the pair in front of him. "No? Well, oh well. Dad says he'll be fine." Shrugging indifferently, Aidan squinted back towards her shore. "C'mon, we gotta go," Aidan repeated, starting back that way.
And just a little while later, "I found 'em, Ianthe!" Aidan announced, pushing between his parents to bound over to his Elder. "It's just us, Nerissa, Nereida and Merlin. Hey, wait, who's that?" Aidan just noticed the white and pink and rainbow female standing over there, and he waved a paw to her.
Not waiting for instruction, Aidan bounded over to her and offered a grin. "Who're you? Are you gonna join our Tribe?" He asked, and he opened his mouth to ask more question, except, once again, his mother cut him off.
Rolling her eyes at her eldest son's impetuousness, Marina padded calmly over to the two foxes, offering an apologetic smile when she joined them.
"Aidan, remember your manners," Marina chastised quickly, cutting off anything else he would've said. "I'm sorry," Marina continued to the newcomer, rolling her eyes goodnaturedly. "My son forgets himself sometimes. I am Marina, this is Aidan, and this is our tribe, Bateau. Would you like to come meet the rest of the Tribe? Our Elder, Ianthe," she nodded over her right shoulder, "would be more than happy to meet you, I'm sure." Marina smiled again, glad that Aidan was keeping his trap shut...for now.

Nerissa collided with Aidan just as she reached him and Ianthe. "Oh, sorry," she apologized, even though he was already leaving. She returned her gaze to the Elder. "I've been good. The tribe seems very happy; it's difficult to feel any other way."
Nerissa's eyes followed Ianthe's as they fell on a new fox. The vixen was starred and rainbow colored, and Ianthe was quick to invite her over. Nerissa watched quietly as Aidan and Marina went up to her instead. A small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth as she wondered what this new fox must be feeling.
Nereida replied with a maybe just as Aidan arrived. She jumped out of the water herself and followed the eager young fox and Merlin back to the ship. At Aidan's mention of his brother, Nereida could see that it pained the younger fox to think that Levi was missing. He didn't really wait for an answer, and acted nonchalant indifferently about the whole ordeal, but she knew that he hated not knowing where his brother was.
They finally reached the ship and Nereida went to stand with Ianthe and her sister, where she spotted the new fox. She watched the events unfold, curious about the new vixen.

JUMPIN' JEHOSAPHAT! IT'S A PLOT EVENT!
Time skip, kids! It's four days after the tribe meets. Sani has been welcomed into the tribe, and what's this? Caspian and Marina are grandparents! Nausika, Aidan and Nerissa show up with kits in tow, leaving Grandpa just a little bit shocked.
However, the tribe has hit far bigger issues than Caspian being old.
Ianthe's gone missing.
No one has been able to find a scent of hers that's fresher than two days. With no leader, the tribe is not only upset, but lost. Together they must work to find a solution. Do they send a messenger out onto the mainland to try and catch word of her? Do they disband? Do they elect a new leader...who they might be risking as a permanent leader?
Is this a message from the Deity of the Seas? The missing Elder could have serious spiritual implications...
Now, when everything seemed to be looking up, the tribe must look to each other to survive.
---
Oh yes. I am that cheesy.
----
Nadia stood in the tribe center on the beach, a rough sketch of the Islands pawed out in front of her. She scanned it intently, then marked another spot carefully with a claw.
Another place where Merlin hadn't found Ianthe.
The vixen silently sighed and looked up at the sky; it was well past midday, and soon the scout would have to return from his second search of the day. They all knew they wouldn't find their leader on the Islands after two days, but they tried anyways. Ianthe had never given up on them. They couldn't give up on her.
But Nadia already knew they had to plan beyond a search and rescue mission. Her siblings had returned with children, and the tribe needed to stabilize if they were going to effectively bring those kits up. Nadia might not have a mate or offspring (for which she was secretly jealous), but she did have the heart of a leader. She was no Ianthe, by a longshot, but she had confidence that she could try and act in her place until she was found.
Her only issue would be getting the others to see that as well. She wasn't the oldest or most experienced, and Nadia had a feeling that the others would grow discontent at her behavior beyond coordinating searches. They would grow tense the longer Ianthe was gone, and certainly they wouldn't take orders from a self-proclaimed leader. It wasn't that Nadia wanted to control Bateau. She would much rather Ianthe be here. Much, much rather. But this place was her home, the home she grew up in...the home she loved so much. She was terrified losing Ianthe would make the tribe collapse if no leader stepped up in the meantime, and she just couldn't fathom having to leave the place she loved so much.
So she would fight to keep this tribe alive, dammit.
Hopefully the others would agree. They were scattered at the moment, searching and collecting food...and raising kits...but they would come here in time, seeking guidance by the ship. Nadia would try to coordinate from there.
For now, she waited, while Mortimer stood sullenly in the low tide, looking glumly at the waves. He'd returned from a search not that long ago as well, and his hope was fading at an increasingly fast rate. Her brother had been standing in the surf for at least twenty minutes, letting the water just lap at his ankles. Being the olnly two left (with Levi missing) with no kits really sucked.
But now wasn't the time to think about parenthood and Mort. She had a map to finish.
Nadia drew another X.

Aidan trotted along easily, Valoel buried on his back, little claws dug in tightly for support so he wouldn't fall; not that Aidan would let him. Chuffing lightly at that thought, Aidan paused at the top of a sand dune and looked around, half-hoping that he would spot Ianthe's seablue pelt against the yellow of the sand, laughing and chatting with Mother or the new member...whatever her name was. Aidan was kind of sorry he'd never managed to formally meet her...
Shaking his head to clear it when he didn't in fact see his Elder, Aidan noticed his sister, frowning at what was probably a map. For the first time, Aidan hesitated -- he knew his sister wished she had kits of her own, like he and Nausika had (this is what happened when you went to the mainland and/or got trapped in a cave for too long...), but he also knew that Nadia would deny that she wished that.
And there was the fact that Nadia was angling to be leader in Ianthe's stead. It wasn't that Aidan thought his twin sister would be a bad leader: no no, she had always been the bossiest and most in control of all them, but Aidan also knew that Nadia hadn't ever had any real control of anything ever. Power corrupts and all that, but also, he wasn't sure how much he would like being made to follow his own sister.
Sighing at himself reproachfully as Valoel stirred on his back, Aidan carefully climbed down the dune and went over to his sister, peering over her shoulder.
"Hey," Aidan murmured, cocking his head lightly. If those little X's meant that Ianthe wasn't there, that was definitely bad news. "No luck so far." It wasn't a question, merely a statement of fact, which depressed Aidan, but he recognized at least the look of resolve in his sister's eye. She had a plan, no doubt. Nadia always had a plan.
"Nerissa and Nereida should be following me," Aidan volunteered eventually, ears twitching lightly at any little sound. He lay down to study the map, but he was distracted with he heard Valoel yawn into his ear and felt his claws unattach. Time to be a Dad.
Valoel stirred awake, blinking slowly in confusion. When he fell asleep, he'd been with Mommy and Daddy in the cave...
...Oh, hey, there was Aunty Nadia. Smiling sleepily, he half fell, half crawled off of Daddy's back and padded over to her, flopping down over one of her paws.
"Hi," Val said in his normal, soft-spoken way, through a yawn. He then noticed the map -- but of course, he didn't know it was a map. "Wha's'at?" He asked curiously, blinking blearily up at Aunty Nadia. "Issit a drawin'?"
Nausika hadn't even asked if Horatio would come back to Bateau with her; she hated that b*****d more than words could ever possibly express, but she loved her children (yes, her children, not their), and she loved her tribe.
But still...A pair of wings would be damn useful right about now. She doubted that Horatio would see the point or even agree to go looking for their missing Elder, but it would still have been nice to try...
Sighing and shaking her head, Nausika carefully lifted Neehalika onto her back and gently picked Triton up in her mouth. She knew if there was any news, anything at all, the ship would be the place to go. Besides, Nausika hadn't formally introduced the newest members of the family yet...
Groaning mentally, Sika quickly and silently made her way, not stopping to chase the butterflies like she would've once done. Motherhood had changed her.
She was there sooner than she thought she'd be, and Aidan and Nadia were still talking, little Valoel, her nephew, just crawled off Aidan's back. Take a deep breath, Sika, and get it over with. She'd come back in secret and only told her siblings that she'd had kits (left out the 'alone' bit), never formally shown them off. Now was as good a time as any.
Nausika gently set Triton down on his wobbly little feet and cleared her throat quietly.
"Hi, guys," Sika mumbled, only looking at them for a moment before Triton started to wander away from them. Deftly, Nausika wrapped her paw around his middle and pulled him back, keeping her son against her. He squirmed, but eventually acquiesced and held still, long enough for Sika to make introductions at least. Aidan already knew, but Nadia had never met them.
"Um, Nad, this is Triton and Neehalika," Nausika eventually mumbled out; it was times like this that she hated her older brother. He didn't have to be ashamed, he hadn't had some random stranger's kits, he didn't have to raise them all alone, he wouldn't get judged for it. Yes, she really did hate him.
"Mom has their brother, Perry. They'll be here soon..." Please say something. Pleasepleaseplease.
Marina nudged little Perry awake with her nose; the children would never learn to walk if they were carried everywhere -- she'd learned that one the hard way. Caspian was out on a search, which was probably for the better, because he did not approve of his youngest daughter having kits.
Shaking her head to clear it, Marina nipped his ear affectionately to wake him up. "C'mon, little one, it's time to go see Mama,"
Triton squirmed away from Mama when she was done talking, bouncing over to Uncle Aidan and the other lady who looked like him.
"Hi," Tri greeted easily, offering the lady a smile. There was his cousin, Valoel, lookin' at the drawing. "No, Valy, that's a map." Then, back to his aunt, "Are you looking for treasure or somethin'?"

Oooooooh she was surely going to be in trouble. How long had she been gone now? The vixen had lost track of time. Nami had gotten so caught up in her explorations of the main land that she completely did not notice that time was flying by. It was so hard to keep her mind focused on any one thing really. As soon as she finally realized that she had left the islands for so long though so had immediately started the swim back.
She was still soaked from the trip as she wandered about one of the islands, but it was certainly good to be back. Hm... What's with all of these X's everywhere? she wondered to herself. I feel like I'm missing something. Perhaps I should go see Ianthe. Mind made up, the water-patterned scout started her own search of the islands. Perhaps if she ran into someone along the way she could get an update on what she had missed.

Perry whined and rolled away from grandmommy. He didn't want to get up!
But once he realized grandmommy had said he could see mommy, he was up with a bound. He looked up at grandmommy expectantly, waiting for her to pick him up and carry him.
"Where's mommy?" he asked curiously. It wasn't fair his siblings got to be with mommy and he didn't!

Marina chuckled and took a step or two in the right direction, making no effort to carry him.
"She's with Aunt Nadia and Uncle Aidan, I'm sure," Marina responded easily. "Are you coming, Perry?" Marina asked, pausing to look back at her grandson. "You're a big boy, surely you can walk for yourself?"

Nerissa walked alongside her older sister, Remiel still resting on her back and Naomi sleeping on Nereida's. Aidan walked ahead to with Valoel to give the sister's some privacy. Nereida had already lectured Nerissa and now they were heading toward the shipwreck in silence.
Nerissa hoped her sister wasn't mad. She loved her sister, and would never want to disappoint or anger her. Returning with three kits had been a shock to both her and Aidan. Plus, there were other things to worry about right now. Ianthe was missing, and everyone was worried. Nerissa was grateful that Nadia stepped up to take charge, and would listen to her fellow tribe-member as well as she could, but she wasn't sure what was going to happen to the tribe in the long-run.
Nereida wasn't angry. Sure she lectured, but what kind of older sister would she be if she didn't? Besides, more than anything she was worried for Ianthe and the well-being of the tribe at the moment. They kits couldn't be expected to grow in such an unstable and panicked environment. Though judging by the sleeping Naomi on her back, they seemed completely unaffected by everything.
Still, Nereida wanted to go back to searching. She was a Scout, this was her job. Merlin was probably out doing the same thing now. Nereida's pace quickened as much as possible, considering her neice was on her back, until they finally reached Aidan and Nadia. She took one glance at Nadia's map and knew what the X's meant. Nereida sighed at the sight. "Still no luck, then?" It was more of a statement than a question. "Has Merlin been around recently?"
Remiel woke up when they reached the ship and slid off his mother's back. He seated himself his brother and his Aunt Nadia's picture in the sand. "Hi," he said, looking up between his parents and his Aunts. He looked back down at all the X's on the map. "Is that where the buried treasure is?"

Every time Nadia tried to get a word in edgewise, another one of her...relatives got dumped down next to her and started asking the same stupid question. Could Sika and Aidan not see that she was busy, dammit? She didn't have time for this.
Suppressing a sigh, the stressed-out vixen looked down at the kits at her feet. It wasn't their fault her brother and sister were morons. "That's what we're trying to figure out," she said with a tired smile, knowing better than to tell them what the X's really meant. "In fact, there's one right here..." She drew an X in the sand near where they were, perhaps only five feet away. "It could be there, waiting for some intrepid kits to dig it up. Why don't you go try and find it?"
She hoped they would all fall for it and eagerly going digging for nothing in the sand. For one, she was not a babysitter, and she wasn't going to entertain them instead of working just because Aidan and Sika we're all 'Oops we had kits, now meet them' at her. They had gone off to be adults or whatever themselves, and she was going to make them handle their mistakes themselves. But also, now was possibly the least appropriate time to be bothering her.
With the kits taken care of, Nadia turned her head to look at the sisters. "I haven't seen Merlin since yesterday," she replied. "He went off by the far island to go look for her, so he probably won't be back until tonight."

Nereida sighed, nodding in understanding. "I'll go and search again, too," she volunteered, looking again at the map and the many X's. She was also a scout, after all. She had learned the geography of the tribe well in those few weeks she had spent searching for her sister, and then through exploration since then. "Anywhere specific I should start?" There were still a number of areas left untouched on the map, and she wasn't sure if Nadia wanted to go in a specific order, or where Merlin and Caspian and the others were already looking.
Remiel stared excitedly at the newest X on the ground. Giving his brother and cousin quick nudges, he scurried over to it as fast as he could. "C'mon, you guys!" He exclaimed, and without further ado, he began digging through the center of the X with his short paws.

Nadia looked up Nereida when the kits were out of the way. "Try the very northern shores, Nereida. We haven't paid much attention to the top island yet."
The blue vixen really wasn't sure they'd find her on any of the islands. Ianthe was way too capable of taking care of herself to fall to any injury on their own islands. They had no predators here, and no one violent had made it past their scouts. That left Ianthe healthy and uninjured...so if she was on the islands, why wasn't she already somewhere where the scouts could track her down?
