You cannot. Avatar edits are only usable for display in signatures and profiles - you can replace your avatar in your profile with an edit by simply placing the edit over top of the real avatar. However, you cannot replace your avatar with an edit in forum posts. If that were possible, then everyone would just edit themselves halos, and gold would be worthless.

I love this tutorial. I use the GIMP, and I use the Dodge and Burn tool for my shading and lightening. :3 It makes a very nice, realistic effect, which I'll show later once I get the idea of what my edit is going to look like. I'm still not very good, but I practice. :3

I've been trying for years now. Improving bit by bit. Now'I'm gonna try out this tutorial :3. I use Paint Shop Pro 8. It has good stuff like burn and dodge (like alot ppl mentioned) heart
