you think that being fluent in six different languages isn't really all that impressing

you borrow your foreign language textbook over the summer, just to be able to continue reviewing

no one will challenge you anymore at the game "how many different languages can you say this word in?"

you attempt to complete crossword puzzles in other languages, even though you're really bad at them in your mother tongue.

You are actually better at crossword puzzles in non native languages. heart

...you speak in your sleep in languages other than English.

...you accidentally answer your English teacher in French/Japanese/whatever language was on your mind, out loud, in the middle of class.

Oy, I did that once.

Or, when you catch yourself before answering in the wrong language, but you have to cycle through about seven different languages to get the right one.

And it's a really simple word like 'Yes'.

xd My poor college English teacher had to wait for me to stutter in Japanese, French, Spanish and German (I was working on our production of Cabaret). Luckily, she knows French and German, so by the time I spat out half a sentence in french she translated for the class.

The worst, however, was when I did that in Spanish class. With French. Constantly.

Oh man. I hate how I'll be studying a language and all since, that's what I use my computer for besides IMing, and mom comes in wanting a Spanish conversation, so I can hear her and understand her but my replies are in like, GermanSpanish. Germish.

You're obsessed with languages when...
  • your MSN contact groups are "Argentina and Mexico", "Germany", "Russia", "Japan", "Armenia", "Israel" and "Egypt".
  • you have started a business of proffesional translation.
  • your grammar and spelling is better than a native speaker's.
  • you've toured through all Europe and each time you used the native language to communicate.
  • you're studying phililogy or linguistics.
  • you have created your artificial language, like Mark Rosenfelder's Verdurian or Tolkien's Elvish.
  • when drunk, you suddenly start swearing in Kazakh.

Hmm..for me...

1) Dreaming in another language
2) Correcting the teacher's pronounciation of areas/people/things during history class. "Uh, you said "kamikaze" wrong, teacher."
3) Running to your language class early just to hear your teacher talk in *place language here*
3) Turning to channels with other foreign languages just to hear the pretty sounds
4) Renting more foreign films than US films
5) Randomly going into another language w/out realizing it
6) Squealing in delight after hearing a tourist talk
7) Waiting for the foreign exchange student to talk
