Technologist Tony Stark That's just shitty, Rose. Just try not to panic. gonk I'm trying not to panic. trying to remain calm with everything. next day off i'm going to redo my reseme and try to get a better job. Though finding one with my experience that is above what i get now is probably going to be hard. Probably try for a bank job... Probably be less stress. but yeah if that works out my friend and I will be moving in together. Which will be interesting. Two single moms in a condo.
Technologist Tony Stark See I finally got back in touch with my best friend, who also happens to be my ex-girlfriend and nearly fiancee, who is back home. You know, that big ******** tattoo I have. The one who inspired me to become a tattoo artist. Her. She's an alcoholic; was sober for three years until a month or so ago while we were out of touch. Most of my friends just can't understand how I feel about her or what we have between us, but I have a feeling that at least a couple people here do if not more. She knows me backwards and forwards, inside and out. Better than anyone else, better than my parents. She's the Alfred and Selina to my Batman. I'm Harley to her Ivy. Thus I'm making a vow; I'm giving up on tattooing until she gets sober. Do you know what set her back down the path to drinking? There is usually a trigger that makes someone go back to their addiction. Maybe if you help her through that maybe she'll be alright?
For people you once dated friends usually don't like it or even understand. I'm sure that she's probably thankful.
I had a friend who once needed help, though that got difficult when she found out she didn't want help. Now we can only see each other for short periods of time before we get into it.
I Agree with Jaeger, giving up the very thing she inspired you to do won't help anything. If you're a tattoo artist all it'll do is stop the flow of money. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you and your friend.

Warren_Worthington III So I got the jesus chain letter in the mail today. I know someone else has received this and there was a thread about it does anyone have the link? Ah, yes, the Postal Holy Ministry Jesus letters. We've actually gotten two of them. And once a letter from an anti-choice organization that contained several tiny plastic fetuses.

Technologist Tony Stark Tom Tresser Technologist Tony Stark Thus I'm making a vow; I'm giving up on tattooing until she gets sober. I truly appreciate self sacrifice, but that's not going to help anyone. If anything, if this is the person who inspired you to do it, you should continue doing it and let it serve as a reminder to her of how important she to you. Show her that she has more than the bottle. Well, s**t. Can't say I'd seen it that way before. I'll sleep on it. That's probably best. I used to date girl with all thing dreams and aspirations, and a ton of talent in interior design, she'd talk all about it when she didn't have a bottle in front of her or she wasn't smoking weed. I couldn't get her away from it, and I wouldn't do it with her. She's still drinking, still smoking crap and is working as a bartender/waitress and that's all she'll ever do. All you can do is try your best to show them what they can do with their lives. You can't make them change, and changing yourself to try to help them may end up being more of a problem than what you're trying to solve.

Ms Rose Wilson Worth Do you know what set her back down the path to drinking? There is usually a trigger that makes someone go back to their addiction. Maybe if you help her through that maybe she'll be alright? There's a whole laundry list, really. She hasn't told me what the specific trigger is, but I think a large part of it was the pressure of continuously being the strong one and staying sober under mounting stress in other areas of her life. Quote: For people you once dated friends usually don't like it or even understand. I'm sure that she's probably thankful. I had a friend who once needed help, though that got difficult when she found out she didn't want help. Now we can only see each other for short periods of time before we get into it. We just have a ridiculously special connection, so it makes it a lot easier for me to speak my mind to her, but I also know where my boundaries are. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you and your friend. I'm not tattooing professionally, yet. I'm fighting for an apprenticeship right now. There's nothing serious pending at the moment, so it's mostly symbolic right now. I'll talk more with her though.

I know, but she's done it before so I know she can do it again. That, and I just love her far too much to be able to be happy myself when I can see her hurting. But yeah, she can and will do big things, I'm sure of that. She's got remarkable fire in her.

Completely of the topic, but last night was just too good. Doughy Dave told me that some kid from his school said that Karate isn't exercise. And of course I said invite him on over. And of course the little moron shows up.
Now there's a guy named Mike Chat who spearheaded the XMA (Xtreme martial arts) movement, which is the over glorification of flash and trash emphasizing acrobatics over actual functional technique. In other words, they're morons dancing around like a bunch of poofs, often to music, performing moves that would get them killed in an actual confrontation. Mike Chat also came out with and sold XMA uniforms. They're the goofiest thing I've ever seen, featuring a tight shirt with sleeves going down to the knuckles and a vest going over it.
And the little goof is wearing one. He looked like a halfassed Power Ranger. And of course there's an ATA logo on the back of it. ATA Tae Know Do: coming soon to a shopping center near you, to take all your money and tell you that you're worth something.
AND THE KID HAS A BLACK BELT!!!! Someone actually told this kid that he's a black belt.
So, we introduce ourselves in the traditional manner. Banging forearms, DoomTrain, line sparring. I just wish more of the Knucklehead Club had been there last night. Kid had horrible technique, and basically got pounded for nine rounds of fun and adventure. I kept telling him that if you hit us hard, we hit back hard. He didn't listen.
I'm positive he's black and blue today and likely sore as hell. He'll probably also tell his friends that it wasn't too tough. Then he'll find somewhere nice and private to cry.

Technologist Tony Stark We just have a ridiculously special connection, so it makes it a lot easier for me to speak my mind to her, but I also know where my boundaries are. Yeah, I have a close friend that i used to date, but when we started hanging out again all of my friends were against it. Saying i've bitten off more than I could chew. Though now that he's engaged to one of my best friends they still didn't like it. Though after awhile of us being friends still and me not batting an eye at his relationship with her they've slowly stopped voicing their opinions. Quote: I'm not tattooing professionally, yet. I'm fighting for an apprenticeship right now. There's nothing serious pending at the moment, so it's mostly symbolic right now. I'll talk more with her though. Ah, Well that's true, though artwork for me is very theraputic(sp?). When I'm down or unsure of stuff, my art is what helps me focus. but I believe i see what you mean. Giving up something special to yourself to help and be there for her. good luck.

Simon_Dark Is that something bad, mate? Was is something to do with dingos?(<-pretending to be from australia) Australians are like all people representing their place of origin: some are annoying, some are nice, some are bitchy, some tip well, some don't, it's all really random. I can't just say "I don't like serving Australian People" because that is a blanket statement, I understand that. Its just I don't like serving Australian people.
Who wants a history lesson?
Captain James Cook was a valiant and brilliant British explorer, bla bla bla. Basically, he "discovered" Australia and he "discovered" Hawaii. The Australians really like Cook. They moved his house to Melbourne, they have the prestigious James Cook University, and they have roughly 70 statues, memorials, and plaques dedicated to the memory of Captain Cook. Hawaii on the other hand has a total of 6. A weather worn, old, and deranged Cook met his end on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1779. As popular story goes, Kamehameha himself consumed Cook's eyes for Mana. The guy is not a popular historical figure around these parts.
So, when you have a group of drinkin' Australians in your resturant who get up to make a toast to the memory of the great James Cook its just drastic /facepalm all around. Its even better when you've got 3 mokes at the bar. Hoora! It is now time to call the police.

She got wasted, we talked. I started crying and threatened to take an emergency leave of absence to come home. She told me she'd never talk to me again if I tried to intervene, that she has to do this alone, and that finally she's going to stop drinking in a week.
Right now it's enough to know that she wants to stop, that she has a goal. Thank you guys so much for your support. It's not over yet, I know, but still.

We've got your back as much as a bunch of people over the intarwub can. Doing it by herself probably isn't the way to go. There's lots of groups that she can turn to for support. Sometimes that's easier than turning to friends and family.
