Ollie had sat here about as long as he could manage, the act of staying in one place starting to drive him, well, nuts. He had one more shot lined up, and so he took it, because it was still satisfying, still exciting....just not exciting enough to keep him glued to his chair. Once it was done, so was he: drawing in a deep breath and rolling up to stand, scythe pulled as he went. He needed to be in the heart of the action, not just waiting for them to come to him.
So he would go. Find a bit of proper trouble, lash out at the beasts around him and let them lash back at him. He would go for some real danger, because without the danger, what fun was any of this...?

They gave him an opening, and that was all Dirge needed to strike. The spear was twirled around and over his body, striking and slashing the ink stain claws and blotted wings, ichor spilling over him. He didn't care, let their strange blood paint his face - this was what epics were made of, after all,
The shadows didn't shrink from him, surprisingly. In fact, they kept coming at him despite the whirlwind spear, scratching and biting his skin, no blood drawn just yet but the bruises were already darkening.
He wondered, very briefly, how long he could last against such an omnipresent force. How long until they crushed him?
They would not, he told himself. They would not; he would prevail.

Dirge continued his onslaught, spinning the spear and stabbing where he could find holes, slashing at legs and arms, anything that he thought might have some sort of artery in it. That was assuming these things worked like humans did, but that was all he had to go off of- and it seemed to be working. More black ichor fell onto his face, splashed onto him armor, painted him blacker and blacker as the fighting went on.
He came upon one freak, a mess of inky hands and wings, horns and teeth. It charged right at him, hungering for red blood. Dirge returned the charge, sweeping low and ducking under it, using his bulky muscle to throw the terror up and away from him, then whirled around to spear it in the head.
The explosion of brain goop was totally wicked.

Had her memory not been sucked free from her, she might have reacted entirely differently. However, without hesitation she headed in, flail swinging and choosing targets at least semi-skillfully. She didnt manage to hit any allies so that was decent enough. Seeing these creatures made it hard to believe that any weapon would actually strike one and hurt it. These things seemed to be made out of almost a fluid, or mist... something intangible. Her thoughts were quickly dashed, however, as she struck one in the jaw hard enough to throw it back. The blow resonated through her arm and she pulled back slightly as she wasnt expecting it to actually hit anything and phase right through the creature in front of her. The creature reeled back in pain and phased into the mesh of inky darkness around them. She blinked a moment before smiling to herself. Oh, this could potentially be fun.

Taking another swing she nailed another fairly hard, though not as hard as the first time. This time she was prepared for the impact, however. It also seemed this time she actually noticed when the creature had stuck out and scratched her. It wasnt anything major, and upon seeing it she realized the previous one had gotten to her as well. She winced a bit and snorted. She was about to scoff outloud at them but decided maybe it was best she didnt. After all, she could see the damage they had already done and she didnt want to jinx herself into being entirely overwhelmed with them and being forced to eat her words.

Dirge was nearly catatonic in his fighting now, only focused on the shadows and what they were doing, where they were going to strike him, how to combat them and how to utterly ruin them. They fell, they scratched, oh how they squealed. Pigs at the slaughter.
He would overcome. He would prevail. At the end of the day, even if he were painted black and dripping, he would win. Victory was his, dammit. Glory, honor, a lifetime of praise - his.

And perhaps just as well. As soon as she attempted to strike at another, one from her side caught her off guard, clawing into her side. She yelped out, more in surprise than in pain and reeled back, her swing just grazing the one she was aiming for. She fell back a little more, reminding herself not to get too confident, and to remember what might happen if she did....

Making sure she wasnt too far off on her own, or getting too cocky she situated again and started to swing again with more control. Knowing she could expect to at least land a hit, she wouldnt be caught so off guard again. She also watched her sides as well attempting not to get flanked. The creatures around her always seemed to be getting in their scratches and she was starting to feel it a little more. It seemed they would be able to get to her no matter what, the game here was being able to get to them more.
