I-x Fallen Hero x-I

((No need to change it now Hero, but just for your reference, neither Darius, Liliana or anyone present (even Blood) has seen this Ritual. And it isn't going to be pretty razz

EDIT: Guys, I will not have internet at my home until this coming Sunday :/ Until then, I will try to post as best I can at work, but my time is very limited and my Team is receiving huge pressure from Upstairs to get our productivity ratio up. Here's hoping it is resolved soon))

((Note that all dialogue in Italics is spoke in the Black Speech, and will be incoherent to anyone that does not know it))

The Anima felt Blood's lifewater, warm on his skin. She was eager, he could tell. Good. there was no longer time for second thoughts. There was no regret. The image of Azur's smooth, smiling face ripped back and forth through his heart, and while his eyes still harbored that terrible darkness and his face was clutched in its emotionless stoney grip, the wall was falling.

His brethren assassin had already made her wound, but she misunderstood the level of dedication this ritual took. It required more.

"Walk with me as my reflection in the shadows of the world. "

Beyruun screamed in his mind as Krayth clasped Blood tightly by the forearm, as she would do the same. Their wrists were aligned, and as his Exodus was forced into its greatest betrayal - drawing the blood of its beloved brother- it's tapered black blade sliced down between the Dark Avengers' flesh. The blood that started as a drip was now a stream, Blood's red and Krayth's black marbling together as it began to paint the ground.

Something was wrong, in this place. The daylight did not seem so bright.

"Quickly, do as I do."

The Beyruun slid to the top of Krayth's unwounded in arm, in agony at the taste of its master's blood and weakened by its separation from so much of its mass. The Lord of the Devil's Eye clasped his unwounded hand over the slash across his wrist, stemming the flow so it was not profuse, but it was steady. He was deaf to the world around him; to the screams of the woman now bound by Beyruun's severed form, and the growing uncertainty and fear of his people.

"Sightless masters observing from your infinite vorpal throne, hear my call!"

He raised his slashed arm over the bound and strained form of the old woman, who shrieked and tried to shy away from his blood as it streamed down over her.

It was darker now. Visibly so, and from The Anima's mouth now came sounds but not words that were understood by mortal ears. The Black Speech erupted from him; the ground vibrated with the bass of its deep and powerful summons.

He could hear screams around him, in alarm. The world here was becoming different. The shadows of those villagers and people present -even the Seers and his faithful Knight- began to rise languidly from the ground as if from sleep. Their intangible, sheet-like image turned their heads towards the Anima.

I am your child. My being rests with you in The Dark. Here, there has been blood spilled. Blood of my own. Blood of love and loss.

The old woman was now painted in small black streams of his blood, she whimpered something - prayers perhaps. Krayth turned his eye to Blood, and then moved away from the woman. His lifewater trailed after him, marking a thin crescent as he winged out towards the back of the mountain of corpses.

The rumbling grew and deepened. The shadows stood of their own accord, marching ceremoniously towards the hag who had been marked. She wailed outwards, begging for help.

The Gods took what was yours, the infinite realm of being. Their light cut you; tore you, and made you bleed. They robbed you. They have robbed me!

His teeth gnashed within his bloody mouth. His body trembled. The true weight of reality crushed him, and from that pressure exploded his agony and rage. He was at the back of the pile of corpses now, concealed from those brave enough to remain. Without delay, his boots stepped into that mound of dead flesh. The crunch of noses; the creak of bones. He marched up it at the same reverent and ominous pace as the shadows of each creature present. He painted his bare black chest with his black blood, crafting symbols upon his body that were invisible upon his skin in the growing dusk.

The darklings assembled as a clergy before a pulpit. Blood would be beside him by now, ascending the mound with him. Their blood dripping between the corpses; muddling with the gore of the dead. The Black Speech continued as he neared the mass grave's crest. The shadows fluttered as they encircled their summoner atop his repulsive aerie.

We are your hands, come forth to give you an offering. A gift worth of the Void. The blood of the slain; flesh material. A feast for the faithful, and a pledge.

He stood at the top now, behind those few who were still alive, and shared their divine allegiance with the old woman at the fore. They clamored and howled for release, or mercy. Krayth was not listening.

GRIX HAS BETRAYED MY PEOPLE!! THE GODS STOOD BY IN THEIR ARROGANCE!! THEIR ACTIONS DENOUNCE THEIR CLAIM OF DIVINITY!! THEIR FAITHFUL SPREAD VIOLENCE AND HATRED IN IGNORANCE!!

Krayth's face was contorted in a mask of pain and fury that is beyond description. He spoke with such passion that the blood of his mouth spat out before him. The shadows that encircled the bodies fell to their ethereal paper thin knees, hands flying above their heads as Krayth and Blood's offering of lifeforce painted those prisoners at the pile's crest. It was twilight here, in Triwinds. The dark was growing, and the maddening thrum of the Black Speeches words filled the air with tangible force. Krayth began to descend the mound, back down towards the hag in front. She thrashed and screamed as she struggled to free herself, but Beyruun's mass was unyielding.

HEAR ME MASTERS OF THE VOID!! GIVE ME YOUR BLESSINGS AND I SHALL GIVE GRIX TO YOU! HIS FAITHFUL! THEIR FLESH! HIS THRONE OF CHAOS! I PLEDGE WAR UPON GRIX AND ANY WHO SHALL DEFEND HIM!!! HEAR ME, PITAL, RYKORT, AND TYRAL!! YOUR SILENT REIGN SHALL END!! YOUR BROTHER IS MARKED FOR DEATH!!

The Lord of The Devil's Eye returned to the hag. She screamed out to anyone who remained, which was few. Many had fled. Others covered their faces and huddled together. They could not understand their words, but they could see his wrath and the abyssal presence that flourished before them. The shadows danced back and forth in ecstasy; hungry for this offering to their Lords.

And from the dark that now consumed the sky and earth, a single sound of endless depth and hunger responded.

"YOUR PLEDGE IS BOUND IN BLOOD AND SOUL. IT BEGINS THE FEAST."

Krayth removed his hand from his arm's wound, and thrust it into Beyruun's petrified mass lashed to the hag. As his Exodus' misting eye rushed back into its flesh the woman tried to speak but the sound was cut short as her head was pulled back along with her arms and legs. Pulled far. Further, till her gargling scream crescendoed with the tear of skin and muscle and the snap of bone; her limbs crushed, snapped and torn. Krayth howled, pouring all his strength into into Beyruun as it compacted her flesh and skeleton, expunging every ounce of her steaming blood onto the ashen ground. The steam became smoke; the smoke became shadow.

The dark halves of each present lunged savagely into the pile of corpses. Chittering frightful sounds whispered from them as they vanished into the mass of flesh. Those still alive at the top were seized from below, and their cries choked out as they were dragged into the dead.

The Lord of The Devil's Eye, drenched in the blood of his enemies, his sacrifice, his lover and his own, hoisted the hag's unrecognizable and shattered frame above his head. That darkness that blossomed from her blood was rushing into him through the markings on his chest.

A chain of events had been set in motion that could not be reversed. The ritual had begun.

"There is only evil in action,

Lady Liliana of Ernya, Sage Elementalist

Liliana heard Krayth's infernal words and could see the power he was calling. She used his mind as a translator, probably becoming the only one in the dwindling crowd to understand what was said. The power he called made her skin itch. Almost like it wished for her to open up to them. To let them speak through her mouth and see through her eyes. She wondered if it was a trick of her mind or something much deeper than that. But the ritual took more of her attention.

SAL'DARXIS VIIR CYTILS

The Darkness claims you all. The reclamation. It was a sound with the percussion and burst of a thunderclap, except it was not. Something was ripping. Some fabric of being, or existence being parted like unfastened curtains. The sky was cloudless, sunless and lightless. Impenetrably black. The town of Triwinds less than 50 yards off could not be seen. All that seemed to remain was that ghastly pyre of dead flesh, those villagers who watched in awe or terror -mostly both- and those that fled called out for aid, trapped in the tenebrae.

Krayth's whole body shook as he held the hag's ripped mangled meat sack aloft; her transmuted lifeblood drew upwards and into him through the black on black scrawl on his chest. Under the pressure of bearing the woman's body, his own blood streamed from the gash on his arm with new vigor. As it met the air, it too became black vapor; snaking upwards and back to the markings on his chest.

KALABAS THU'UX RAV UMBAR

Matter in light yields shadow. In the vast inky void that now encircled all present, the mass of corpses behind Krayth and Blood began to writhe. The chattering whispers grew in pitch and pace. As The Lord of the Devil's eye screamed in a maelstrom of anguish, rage and pain, that darkness which was flooding into him blossomed outwards; long black tracers that whipped off of his flesh and backwards and into the pulsating, thrashing mound of death. His eyes scorched in violet light, the Anima cried out into the cacophony of shadows and rumble of a sound akin to the tearing of the earth.

"FIRST OF FAITHFUL SLAIN!"

KALABAS ATHU'UX KARR UMBAR!

Matter without light becomes shadow! As the tentacles of blackness that erupted from Krayth made contact with the bodies of the dead, there terrible roar surrounding them reached a crescendo. Like a venom, black began to spread over the bodies. The once sharp contours of their slain flesh lost focus; blurred and bled into one. As though their mass no longer mattered, melting into itself as the antithesis of creation. The more of the flesh that transformed, the greater the din became. What used to be whispers were howls. Long, gnarled claws of shadow burst from the dead.

"MY GIFT TO BLACK SHEV'AXJRUM"

Every corpse became a shade. Every death was renewed by something darker. The bodies stormed amidst themselves, crawling their way out of the pile. Those shadows of the living who had begun the feast rose, and rose... and rose; towering over the height of buildings, watching Krayth with eyes darker than black. The darkness encircling them was beyond perception. It was like staring into The Void itself... and out in that impenetrable night darker things moved, their shade beyond comprehension; slithering in the reaches of The Shadow World, patrolling vigilantly around their observing Masters. It was now apparent that this small stretch of land that our Heroes and petrified villagers could see was either the sudden visitor in the Dark Reaches, or that Rykros had a very old and powerful guest. Within that mass of thrashing shades became a glowing vortex of blinding darkness. Krayth's words broke through the insanity.

"TO SHADOW YOU BECOME!"

The Lord of the Devil's Eye's words were incoherent, but the nerve-burning fury behind them carried their meaning. He was moving towards the godless vein behind him, as what once were corpses now were shades, watching in statuesque silence as the patron of their birth advanced. Swiftly. Legs pumping in a staggered run, the Anima's final phrase was met with total silence -the voice of The Void.

"TO SERVE THE DARK AGAIN!"

His outstretched arms threw the tattered flesh and boney remnants of Grix's silent worshiper forward, and Beyruun lashed tightly to it's sibling's arm as the remains were swallowed by the epicenter of extinction. Total silence save the feverish tearful prayers of the brave old man shielding the face of his daughter. That vortex stopped, rose and rose over Krayth as a titanic wave of the dark. A coven of shades and shadow beasts watched in reverence as the agent of The Void took shape. The Avatar of Night ripped into the world, and its words were heard by no one. Silence, save for in the minds of Blood and Krayth.

Brother and sister in shadow, your work is prodigious. Umbrum thanks you. Come into embrace your .

The titan's burning black figure became a murderous maw of beautifully shaped onyx arms with slender knife point fingers, and both Blood and Krayth vanished into its infinite darkness.

What they felt was beyond description of words or speech. It would be to explain existing and ceasing to be in a single moment. What they saw was inexplicable. The Void touched them both, and when they emerged the second after their consumption, Silence endured. The newborn shades vanished into the rapacious night. Then the darkness lingered for a moment and melted away as if no more than a waking nightmare or carnival illusion.

Krayth rested on his knees, back slumped forward and no longer blood caked hair hanging over his eyes. The blood and bodies was gone. The creatures and their shepherd were gone. All that remained was a still moonless, starless night.... in the light of day.

Blood fell to her knees beside Krayth after being touched by the Void and receiving its knowledge. She had felt like she had just died and came back to life all in a matter of a second, But she had gained a vast knowledge on everything, absolutely everything. This made her want to be touched again, for she had got a glimpse at something only few could really see or understand. But for now she just sat there next to Krayth looking rather unchanged, but if someone were to look into her eyes they wouldn't be able to comprehend her new-found knowledge.

Blood now looked down at herself noticing that all the blood on her was gone and her left wound was healed up, but what surprised her more was that there was another gauntlet on her left hand now, but it wasn't a hidden blade. Her newly acquired knowledge told her it was a Grapple Gauntlet and what it was capable of. This made her happy since she got a new tool to use, but she still felt something missing inside her from when she entered the void. "Lord Krayth...." Blood mumbled but then cut herself short as she forgot what she was going to say.

"There is only evil in action,

Liliana's bosom crested and fell rapidly. All that raw, unadulterated power. How she could have used that back in her old world. So many deaths that could have been avoided. So many places that didn't have to crumble. Her aura was lit up from the explosion of power that came from the ritual long after it had ended. But the colors were muddy. Darker. There had to be a way to harness it without walking the path Lord Krayth walked.

((Sorry for the wait ya'll. I'm rested with free time and back from Munich. It's on!!! biggrin

_Manpish_, as a head's the ritual is less about yielding knowledge as it is power. When Jackie's online we'll discuss how this will affect Blood's development, but for the time being think of the ritual's boon as less of a revealing the secrets of the Void and more that The Void has unlocked some part of her that is attuned to Its power. Also, at this point Blood will no be able to fully understand The Black Speech, but is not affluent in speaking it.))

The Anima did not rise for some time. The air around him was silent, windless and cold. He was changed. His flesh was darker than before; wrapped in a blackness that cast no shadows upon itself. His silhouette as it was cast upon the ground was so stark that the ground beneath it was not visible. A pit that moved as he moved, which was not at all.

He inhaled, and as he did his eyes opened. Their one scarlet and orange orbs were now masked in a funerary veil of scintillating dark. His wounds did not bleed, but their marks remained. The marks that had been drawn upon his skin lingered as the knotted scar of a brand. Marked forever. His loyalty to The Void was now undeniable; his fate and soul forever sealed in its maelstrom of nothingness.

As he rose, his eyes first turned to Blood, his right hand hooking under her armpit and hoisting the assassin to her feet. They shared a wordless gaze of understanding. Now, she had glimpsed into the Heart of Darkness. Every step she took from here would lead to the inevitable eclipse of her being, and in her mecca to The Void would lay everything she hungered for.

"We shall bring Night to Jiaum. We shall watch the light dim in the eyes of our enemies. Thank you. You are my Nox'Sala. My Shadow Sister."

His eyes turned outwards from there. Six villagers remained in the near vicinity, and two of the guards. They were beyond words. Speechless in the wake of this twilight that defied the Sun, and the action of their Lord. The only one to speak was the wild haired man from before; his words thick with zeal and inspiration. "Lord Valdiir has made a pact! His words give us eternal shade! No sunfire shall ever burn Triwinds! Praise him! My Lord, I shall serve you til death!"

The man fell to one knee with his right hand clasping his throat; the tribal gesture of loyalty. The willingness to tear out his own throat upon command. No one else spoke. The guards, the villagers, all looked on without the courage to speak. The Anima commanded:

"Rise. Guards, prepare the body of your Lady... when we return, it shall be to celebrate her memory."

The guards stepped forward once, and bowed their heads without a word. Whatever had happened her would best be forgotten by their minds, but they knew it to be impossible. This day-night would haunt them forever.

Without removing his hand from Blood, Krayth looked to the haunted Elementalist. Whatever shade has stalked her from the edge of death, it was gone now. Fled, for now, into the domain of the dead. Beyruun ran down Krayth's left shoulder to convalesce in his hand as The Black Knife. Ready. Hungry. Enlightened in its purpose; it's place in the ranks of God-slayers.

"Liliana. We are ready."

Blood shared the glance with Krayth and found herself understanding him completely now that they had done what needed to be done. "I am ready to fight with you, my Shadow Brother. May our enemies fall beneath our feet." Blood told Krayth as she stood now without his help, but still could feel his arm around her. Blood waited to speak again as Krayth spoke to the guards and the people, then to Liliana. "My lord, when we return home i wish to speak with you about some things.." Blood told Krayth as she waited to be transported to Jiaum. Currently many things were running through her mind, but one stood above all the others, and this is was one thing she was wanting to do when she came back home.

Krayth looked into Blood's eyes and she knew that there would be resolution after the battle. After. The Anima had spoken his share of words today. Now, his blade would speak for him.

He jumped onto Alewar's back behind Liliana, and his Nox'Sala would quickly follow. Earlier he might have stepped through the shadows directly to the battlefield, but he needed to save his strength. He needed to save it for Sephra.
