They had gone to make a name for themselves, talks said they traveled beyond the mountains. He wasn't sure, but he kept watch: hoping. His best friend left with the group. While he was yet unnamed and could have gone as well, something held him back. So, he stood on the mountain overlook every day and night. Someone brought him food, maybe a sister or brother, it didn't matter. Eventually, he was such an accepted fixture that they all agreed. He had earned the name Rock Cliff, for surely he was a true son of the mountain itself.

Spoilered cos i'm long winded >.>
She trudged through the snow, thick and deep in the most bitter winter her valley had seen in ages. Most Totoma in the area were wisely hunkered down, but not many had ever used the word 'wise' to describe her. And so, in her infinite 'wisdom', she was roving up a nearby mountainside, convinced that since no one else was 'brave' enough to come out in this weather, she'd find some choice vittles.
She was quite a ways up the face when she heard it - the sound of a foal in distress. Head jerking around in surprise, she realized it was coming from the base of the mountain she'd been climbing. Without another thought, she recklessly darted back the way she'd came, snow, rocks and other debris flying in her haste to reach the bottom. It wasn't until the last moment she vaguely saw a larger form in front of her, far too large to be a foal. By then it was too late, and she slammed into it at full speed. The foal's distressed sounds immediately vanished, and as she shook her head and rose unsteadily, she realized that she'd bowled over another Totoma - one she recognized as from a rival clan.
Surprised at what she'd done, she was startled out of her reverie by the foal, whom she recognized as one from her own clan who had a bad habit of following her when he wasn't supposed to. He managed to squeak out "He tried to kidnap me!" with a look of terror on his face, before she grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and took off back to their clan's home. It wasn't long before the foal was over his fear and was squeaking his delight and amazement at what she did the whole way. When they returned, he babbled to everyone how she'd come out of nowhere, burying her foe, "...just like an avalanche!"
