Anima Adamantea

Both of the words are latin: Anima means breath, life, or soul. Adamantea means unyielding, stubborn, or adamant. The word adamant is a synonym of stubborn, but it is also “a stone imagined by some to be of impenetrable hardness; a name given to the diamond and other substance of extreme hardness”. So, from the overall name, we could gather that: its gem is impossible to crack, it has some level of intelligence and has the potential to grow, and it could be unwillingly to do what we wish it to do.

Now with the description of the Anima, which is “An azure spirit dwells inside this enchanted, metallic shell”, we can guess that the gem actually contains some sort of mystical being, and that the ‘Anima’ part of the name refers to the said being inside of the item. Also that the 'metallic shell' refers to an egg.

So far, the poses have given us a little bit to work with. If I only focused on the first evolution items, I would guess that the gem was the main part of the egg, and the metallic material is just some sort of holding around the egg. But, with the latest evolution, we see that the metallic material played a much bigger role than I thought. In one of the poses, the item gives off a glow. Perhaps it’s the spirit’s first contact with its current possessor. I find the Forehead crest and the egg to be related. I see the Anima’s metallic holding to fold out, like in the foreheadcrest. The metal will spread, and weave together into a metallic spherical shape, or the egg. As the items are now, I see the gem being the container of the spirit, until the spirit is ready to grow. Then the item took its egg shape and the growing spirit is slowly moving into the hollowed enclosed egg.

I find it a tad hard to guess the future of the item. I found very little mythological background on Adamant, so what this spirit is leaves me clueless. If the item stays true with its name, though, the spirit could be stubborn in whatever it needs to do. On Edmund’s quote, I would guess that the spirit does have some sort of mission, and it includes us. Since “it seems to interface directly with the human body*”, I would guess some type of cyborg thing will result from the item. Maybe the gem will be embedded into us. I suspect the egg to get bigger. I wouldn’t doubt more glowing poses, and jewelry (glasses, earrings, shoe buckles, mood rings, etc). Edmund’s quote pretty much sums it up: right now, we don’t have much of a clue. I’m being hopeful that by the next evolution or the one after, we’ll get some clarity.

Since it’s too early to tell what this item is capable of, there aren’t many uses I could think of that would help the GiB. From my theories I would think this is an item we shouldn’t toy with until we know what it is capable of. It’s not even a machine; it’s a container of a mystical being. Now, I wouldn’t say the spirit is hostile, but it might not friendly. Once we find out what this spirit can do, we could try to integrate it into different weapons for a huge upgrade, instead of it integrating into people…well unless a person wants to be one with the Anima, I guess. Of course, this is assuming that the spirit can do something, and isn’t just a puff of mist with a face that wants to be a part of us. More research is needed, I think, before we can consider using it for the GiB.
