I honestly find chewing gum in band stupid. Anyways, if anyoneis caught with it, then the BD gives us a long lecture on why not to chew gum. It is usually funny at first, but after a while it gets boring.

Tixmia You should get punished! All that sugar going into your instrument makes gross icky mold! Ewwwwwwww! My BD automaticly gives out detentions if she catches anyone. Good for your director! We don't have a gum chewing problem, but I agree. The best way to ruin your instrument is by chewing gum!

no one in our band really does it exept for percussion, but our teacher felt the need to go on one of his famous tirades, explaining how the sugar from the gum will get worked into your instrument and that small animals will start living in the tubas. It was quite interesting ^^

We don't get in trouble. You just have to take it out before you play. However, the drummers chew it anytime they want... Lucky bastards. lol jk

If we're chewing gum, we only get in trouble if we're caught. I don't think you should chew gum because it might get stuck inside your instrument if you're brass. Your reed might get wrecked if you're, well, a reed instrument. I sometimes forget that I even have gum in my mouth and then halfways through band (or something like it) I'll realise that I have gum in my mouth. I don't get up to throw it out because then my eacher will be like "OMG, YOU were chewing GUM?!" and make a bg stink even though I'm throwing it out because I realised I had it in my mouth and didn't want to further be bad and chew it. Having gum in my mouth while I play my clarinet doesn't affect my playing though.

I'm serious. He kicked a dude out and he went to concert band.
He never came back.

Apparently one year someone choked on their gum during band, so my band director never wants to see gum in the band room ever again.

yeah we get in trouble. It's not funny, cuz he makes us write sentances or clean instruments and crap. Though I couldn't chew gum anyway, the way my instrument is...

Heck ya!! Partly cuz gum is banned at my school... which sucks! Ya cuz thers this guy named Eric... hes Drumline captain... gets caught with gum almost everyday... cuz when he chews hes like a cow chewing cud!! and then when the band diretor busts him (no surprise) hes like"what?!?! how could u have caught me!?!? i wasnt!!" Eric, everybody knows you were chewing it. Get a life... lol wink

Well My teacher says if we don't get caught in band he'll let us chew it whenever we want in band. It's probably for percussion only in our school tho. blaugh
