Matt literally slid out of the lab, thanks to some of the water leftover water from Teddy's entrance. The rookie trainer flipped through the air and landed square on his butt a few feet outside the entrance. "Haha whoops, that hurt..." He mumbled, getting up and brushing the dirt off his pants. He immediately felt more at ease once he was outside the lab. He was a pretty easy going guy, but even that can change when meeting someone as famous as the Professor Oak and getting a starter Pokemon.His hand brushed against one of his Pokeballs and he instantly forgot any pain he might've been feeling. He took a content breath and grabbed the two Pokeballs off his belt. He walked over towards the small natural bay to the south of the town, where he assumed Teddy swam in from. Firmly gripping the two Pokeballs, Matt threw them into the air. "C'mon out! Bulbasaur, Mudkip!" He said excitedly as the Pokeballs opened up, reflecting the sunlight off their metallic surfaces. The red energy quickly took form as Mudkip and Bulbasaur appeared in front of Matt. He caught the two empty Pokeballs, put them back on his belt, and knelt down in front of the two Pokemon. "Kiiiip~""Bulba, saur!" Cried out the two Pokemon happily as their trainer approached. "Hey guys. Welcome to the team, Bulbasaur! My name's Matt." He said with a grin. Matt had had Mudkip for a few days so it was already used to him. Bulbasaur didn't seem to be apprehensive at all towards its new owner and quickly walked forward and rubbed its head against Matt's arm. Matt smiled and ran his hand over his new Pokemon. Mudkip saw the water and quickly skipped towards it before diving into the shallows.

Teddy ran out from Professor Oaks lab at a quickened pace, he had watch the boy from Hoenn named Matt leave but the boy Hayes was still in the laboratory. It was only polite to wait, but a surge of impatience to meet his new Poke-partner was flowing through Teddy's veins. He rummaged around in his bag to find the leaf emblazoned Pokeball holding his latest recruit. Grasping it he pressed the centre button, causing the ball to expand, with a small leap himself he threw the ball into the air, soon to lose sight of it from the suns rays. He thought back to how he had found his way to Pallet and how his journey had begun with an odd start.
The force of the ocean was pushing him back, but this was not a new sensation for Teddy Chaucer who cut through the current like a knife, his arms arching up and through like warm butter. Teddy had been raised by the ocean, an inhabitant of Johto's Cianwood City so he had always been steps away from the blue.
Teddy had broken in his morning with a brisk swim. He had left his favourite Pokemon Totodile laying in his bed along with all of his belongings. It didn't take him that long till Cianwood was out of his vision, but he pressed on, avoiding the Whirlpool Islands and focusing on how much he loved the ocean.
He wasn't sure how long he had been swimming for, but it must have been some time. He approached the shore of a small village and made his way to the beach. Wandering out of the ocean, he pushed his hands through his hair and shook off the excess water. His hands perched on his hips, he surveyed the area.
This place was new to Teddy. Had he discovered a new region? He looked to the sky, shielding his eyes. The sun was at it's highest. How long had he been swimming for? The only real options left to him were to either swim back, which was reckless or approach the town and get some help from the locals.
Teddy was shaken out of his flashback by the sound of a Pokeball opening. That unmistakable sound as the Pokemon is materialised into existence. Soon the shape of his Bulbasaur was apparent, he saw it spin around in the air, before falling gracefully to the ground."Bulba. Bulbasaaauuur" the Pokemon declared. Teddy knelt down in front of it, popping his towel knapsack on the ground. "It's a pleasure to meet you too Bulbasaur. My name is Edward, but you can call me Teddy. I hope you're alright with your name for now. In time, maybe I'll get a good grip of what to call you. Till then, Bulba may have to do" Teddy said, scratching his new cohort on the chin, to which the Pokemon growled in approval. "I'm glad you approve" Teddy declared with a chuckle. He stood up and looked over at Matt and then back towards the laboratory. Teddy had something to ask them both.

Hayes hadn't ran out of the lab as quickly as the other two, instead strolling out of it a leisurely pace as he took his new partner's Pokéball in his hand and rolled it around a few times; it wasn't every day you had a Pokémon given to you by Professor Oak, after all. It hasn't been all that long, has it? He thought, thinking about when he made the decision to come over here. Only a (relatively) short time ago Hayes had decided he'd go on an adventure of his own as he'd always had a bit of wanderlust in him, and it wasn't going away on its own; and now here he was, a Bulbasaur in hand from the leading expert on Pokémon in Kanto and as many supplies as he could carry in his bag. It was funny how everything worked itself out, even if it didn't seem to be going the way you'd expect it to go... and it definitely hadn't gone the way he'd expected.
Hayes stopped once he was a fair distance from the lab and looked over at Matt and Teddy who'd stopped as well, both with their new Pokémon already out of their Pokéballs. It didn't take long for Hayes to join them, pressing down on the button in the center of the Pokéball and letting it expand as he tossed it in front of him, watching it open in mid-air and release Bulbasaur on the grass. After it had released the Pokémon it closed and began to fall, only stopped by Hayes' catching it in the air; almost absent-mindedly, as he stared at the Pokémon sitting on the ground in front of him and appeared to be staring back at him... after a moment, it occurred to him that it was the first time they'd met each other.
"...saaur..?"It growled as it tilted its head, as if trying to look at him from a different angle. "I think we're going to be around each other for a while, Bulbasaur, so I'll be in your care." Hayes smiled as he crouched down and held out a hand, holding it in front of Bulbasaur. "..."Bulbasaur seemed to mull over what he'd said for a moment before responding, extending a vine from underneath it's bulb and placing it on top of Hayes' hand."Bulba, saaaur!"It cried out, a smile across its face.

Teddy was still knelt on the ground, scratching his Bulbasaur's chin when he saw Hayes leave Professor Oak's laboratory. He watched the trainer release his Pokemon and treat it with a similar kindness that Matt had done. He looked down at this Bulbasaur with a smile "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" he asked him. Bulbasaur nodded and expressed it's approval of Teddy's idea. "I'm glad we're on the same page" and then with a slap of his knees, he stood up, glistening in the sunlight. "Hey, guys. Matt and Hayes right? You mind coming over here for a sec? Just got something I want to ask you guys. I was wondering where your next destinations were" Teddy shouted, there was something about the way those two interacted with their Pokemon that warmed Teddy's heart. Teddy had the feeling wherever he was to go next would be the start of an unforgettable journey and these two seemed like good eggs.

After a minute or so, Hayes heard a familiar sound of a hand slapping on skin and looked up from Bulbasaur as Teddy called out for himself and Matt, the other trainer who'd been at the lab. He turned and looked in the direction of the voice and saw that he was standing and looking in their direction, his makeshift knapsack on the ground.
"I don't know about him, but I was planning on heading over to the nearest Route... and onward, really." Hayes said after he'd given Bulbasaur a pat on it's bulb and begun to make his way over to Teddy, it following him over. He had an inkling of why he'd asked the question, but he'd give Matt a moment to come over as well before asking Teddy to elaborate a little, seeing as he'd been a bit farther away and closer to the water's edge than either of them.

Matt sat on the ground near the cove as Bulbasaur ran back and forth along the shore while Mudkip splashed around in the shallows. Somehow he was feeling both anxious and nostalgic while watching his two Pokemon play with each other and getting along, as if in a past life or two he had started his Pokemon journey in this town. Matt was pulled out of his contemplation of the Arceus-centric reincarnation cycle of the world when he heard Teddy call out to both him and Hayes, who Matt hadn't noticed was still hanging around the lab. "C'mon guys." He called out two his two Pokemon as he got up to a kneeling position. Mudkip hopped out of the water and shook dry, splashing Bulbasaur who hopped away, rolled, and both Pokemon ran towards their trainer. Matt extended an arm, which Mudkip used to quickly climb up onto his shoulder. Matt then picked up Bulbasaur with both hands and stood up, walking over to Teddy and Hayes. "I was just planning on heading north through Viridian Forest to Pweter, since that's where the first gym is. It's probably gonna take some time for us to be ready to challenge the gym though. I've been living here in Kanto for a few years so I'm sorta familiar with the area if you guys wanna come with." Matt offered, since he definitely wasn't against traveling with these two.

Teddy let out a hearty laugh as Matt made the suggestion of travelling together. "Seems like we aren't on the same page just when it comes to Pokemon!" Teddy said, delivering a slap on the back to Matt. "I would love to join you fellas on a journey to the next town!" he laughed, putting his arm around Hayes and dragging him close by. "Boys! Who knows what kind of adventure awaits us beyond this town!" he shouted, letting go of Hayes he moved onto his Bulbasaur who he picked up and threw around in the air playfully. On the last catch, he spun around and pointed directly at the route ahead of them. "To Virdian City and the promise of pants!"

After Matt had joined them and informed them of his own plan, he invited both Teddy and himself to join him; much to Teddy's excitement as he laughed and clapped him on the back, immediately agreeing to the idea. "It wouldn't be an adventure if I turned down a travelling companion or two." Hayes agreed, not minding as the swimmer pulled him in close... he'd mostly dried off, after all, and it was only a brief moment until he moved on to his Bulbasaur and picked it up. "But I think you'd be better off finding a shirt, actually." He added, chuckling at the announcement of Teddy's intention to find a pair of pants. It was probably a good idea to get on that.
Once they'd accepted Matt's invitation to travel together and Hayes had returned Bulbasaur to its Pokéball, it didn't take long for them to start in the direction of Route 1; a short route that connected Pallet Town and Viridian City, apparently. Although he'd grown up in the region, it hadn't been around here... he had a passing understanding of the area, but that was it.

Matt nearly dropped his Bulbasaur when Teddy slapped him on the back. He caught himself though and listened to Teddy as he continued, and was glad when Hayes agreed too. He was looking forward to traveling with these two other trainers though, despite how his laidback offer might've come across. Starting a Pokemon journey was a pretty intimidating task. Matt was a firm believer in the fact that one could never have enough friends though. Holding Bulbasaur in one hand, he grabbed its Pokeball and held it up. "Alrighty guys, it's time to go. Let's get you inside for now." He said before returning Bulbasaur and Mudkip to their Pokeballs. After putting the Pokeballs back on his belt Matt headed off towards Route 1 with Teddy and Hayes. He felt his excited building up as they approached the tall-grass covered walkway. This is is, this is the first step on our journey... Matt thought as he took that first step into the tall grass. As soon as his foot found the ground he heard chiptune battle music playing all around him. Startled, he looked all around him trying to find the source. That's when he saw the Youngster sitting down a few feet ahead of them, playing some handheld game with the volume on max. Matt laughed at himself, wondering why he felt so anxious when the music started playing, and continued forward through the grass with the others.

Matt hadn't even gotten out of the first patch of grass before being attacked a wild Pokemon. An incredibly fierce looking Pidgey stood in front of him, and made it apparent it wasn't going to let him pass. He never understood why wild Pokemon were so aggressive in tall grass, but were typically super docile in literally any other setting. Regardless, it was apparent he was going to have to battle this Pidgey if he wanted to pass. Matt didn't like hurting Pokemon, but he did enjoy battling so he would make an exception for this one. A Pidgey eh? It would normally have type advantage against Bulbasaur, but since it's such a low level I doubt it knows anything other than Tackle... Bulbasaur can handle this. Matt thought to himself as he planned out how to start off the battle. "Go, Bulbasaur!" Matt called out, throwing Bulbasaur's Pokeball into the air and releasing it in front of the Pidgey. "Saur!" Growled Bulbasaur, staring down the Pidgey. "Bulbasaur, attack it before it gets the chance to do anything. Use Tackle!" Matt commanded. Bulbasaur charged at the Pidgey and crashed into it. Since Bulbasaur ws a higher level, the Pidgey wasn't able to react in time and the attack connected. Bulbasaur tackled through the Pidgey, knocking it out in one attack. A bit anti-climactic, but a win was a win. The triumphant Bulbasaur trotted back over to Matt, where it received a pet on the head and praises. "Great work, Bulbasaur! We're pretty close to Viridian City, so you can go ahead and stay out." He said before standing up and continuing forward towards the next town while humming a tune.

As he stepped out of Pallet Town and onto Route 1, he found himself humming along to the tune of a Youngster's handheld game as he played it a few feet ahead of them, thinking it seemed appropriate as they left the town and started to make their way through the grass-covered route; his amusement was short-lived, however, as after only a couple steps a Pidgey squawked at him from in the grass and puffed out its chest, appearing to block the path. After an attempt to walk around it didn't work as the wild Pidgey made sure it couldn't go any further, Hayes reached toward his side and wrapped a few fingers around the Pokéball on his belt as he watched the Pokémon eyeing his movements. If it's not going to move, then... Hayes thought, trailing off as he pressed the button on the Pokéball and let it expand in his hand.
"Bulbasaur!" He shouted, throwing the Pokéball in the direction of Pidgey and releasing it in front of it; catching the ball after it'd begun to fall back. "Bulbasaur!"It cried out, focusing on the Pidgey in front of it as soon as it noticed it... he'd never used it in a battle, so it must've been an instinctual Poke-thing, or something. "Now, use Tackle!" Hayes shouted, and Bulbasaur answered; quicker than the opposing Pidgey, it launched itself forward and crashed into it as it tried to ready itself, and... that was it. The Pidgey had been knocked out from the attack. "...A bit anti-climactic, I think." He mused, and Bulbasaur seemed to agree as it turned and stared at him, as if it was asking if it was already over. I hope it'll think twice about the next time. Hayes thought in regards to the Pidgey, feeling a bit bad for it as he raised the Pokéball and had Bulbasaur return, continuing along the path once he'd put it back in place. Viridian City wasn't much farther ahead, but he'd try to be a bit more careful about where he stepped.

Teddy would have liked to use the towel that Professor Oak had given him through Route One, but unfortunately for Teddy in this case, it was full of Pokeballs and Potions. He strutted out into Route One past the Youngster broadcasting that catchy music from his games console. Teddy whistled it as he passed the town barrier, followed closely by his Bulbasaur. As the two of them set their first foot into a patch of long grass ahead of them, warning lights flashed across Teddy's eyes. Almost like a sixth sense.
"Raaaattata!" the blue streak cried as it flew across Teddy's field of vision, the grass parting to show the small blue rat Pokemon known as Rattata. "Throwing us in the deep end right away are we?" Teddy shouted triumphantly, a fire beginning to burn in his eyes. Maybe that was what the warning light really was? "Okay Bulbasaur. Our first battle together. Let's start things out with a tackle attack!" to which Bulbasaur replied with a mighty Bulba-roar, before breaking out into a full blown tackle against the Rattata, hitting it head on and knocking it far into the long grass.
The two of them waited a couple of minutes, only assuming it wasn't the end. Eventually they gave up and celebrated their victory. Teddy returned Bulbasaur to his Pokeball and continued on his journey to Viridian City, running to catch up with Matt and Hayes.

Gavyn stumbled off of the train after it stopped in Pallet. The ride had made him a bit nauseous, so he had to stand off to the side to catch his breath and calm down. Meanwhile, Beth had excitedly run around, finding some kind of candy bar underneath a bench at the station. She brought it back to Gavyn, who... honestly didn't know what to do with it. "Well... I don't think it's fit for human consumption... at least not now." Merlin commented as his trainer held it out between his finger and thumb. "Huh? No way! That's a RageCandy Bar! You know, you could exchange those at a lab for a starter pokemon, right?" a person nearby commented, having noticed the candy bar and a slightly confused look on Gav's face. They didn't stick around long, though, as they seemed to notice that their friend went ahead of them, so they ran to catch up with them. "A-another starter?" Gav mumbled. He wasn't quite ready to go into another lab so soon. And now hearing about it's use, he didn't feel right about just tossing it out like he was thinking of doing. "Don't worry about it too much, Gavy." Merlin suggested, patting his trainer's leg before leading the way out of the station.

After entering the town, it soon became apparent that he might not even have to get overwhelmed inside another lab. "Get back here, Bulbasaur!" an assistant shouted, chasing after the little dino-like starter. It seemed that they had both came from the lab. The assistant seemed to be trying to capture the grass type to bring it back, but the Bulbasaur was doing a good job of keeping just out of reach. Soon, the grass type was charging towards Gavyn, diving between his legs. "O-oh dear..." Gavyn muttered, totally thrown off from the starter's actions. Luckily, he had managed not to fall over from it, though the assistant was quick to approach. "Heh... I'm sorry, sir. He's a fresh hatchling from the lab. I hope he isn't bothering you." the lab assistant said to the bespectacled male. "U-uh... no worries..." he replied meekly. "Alright. If you don't mind, could you help me get him back to the lab?" the assistant asked. "Bulb." the starter seemed to not be ready to go back, staying behind Gav's leg. "He seems like he'd rather stick around here... Gavy, the candy bar?" Merlin commented, then gave a light tug on his trainer's pants. "O-oh! Right! Umm, perhaps I could give you this candy bar in exchange for this bulbasaur? I ... uh... heard that it's special or something..." Gavyn held the ragecandy bar out to the assistant. It... it really seemed ridiculous. The brunette expected to be rejected, but the assistant took the bar and after examining it, seemed to be alright with the exchange. "Ah, yes. This is a RageCandy Bar. I'll get it to Professor Oak, and in exchange, you may keep that Bulbasaur." the assistant smiled, then turned to leave.

Gavyn couldn't believe that that had really worked. But it seemed that was really an acceptable method of getting a starter from a lab. Even better was that he didn't have to go inside. Though, he supposed if he ever had another bar, he'd likely have to go in to do the exchange himself next time. He knelt before the Bulbasaur, putting a hand on his head. "Welcome to the team, pal... er... I don't really have a proper name for you yet, but I promise I'll come up with something good eventually, okay?" he told the grass type. "Bulb!" he exclaimed, then Merlin instructed him in the use of a pokeball to get the Bulbasaur. Not that it was that hard in the end. He straightened up after officially adding Bulbasaur to his team, then looked around to see that Beth had bounded ahead towards the route to Viridian. "Beth! Wait for me!" he called out, then jogged a bit to catch up with his eager starter.
