Does anyone else have a problem with racism? I still see it all the time. I dont mean the general black-vs-white things. I mean everything. My aunt does not like my fiance because he is half Korean (his mother, and his father is white). It really hurts me that she doesn't like him based just on his looks. I've prayed about it. It doesn't bother him , but it hurts me when she says things about him.

If God wanted the world to be the same, He would have made it like that. If He wanted it perfect, He would have made it perfect. One of the things about racisum that bugs me, is that most of the discrimination comes from white people. Maaaybe it's beause they believe they reign superiour. I'm not completely sure why, but that really does bother me. sad

My city is basically split into thirds - Caucasian, African American, and Hispanic. There are distinct lines between us. In West O, the majority of the population is caucasian. I live in West O as well - usually, it ranges from middle to upper class here. South O is mostly Hispanic in nature, and ranges from low to middle class. North O is downtown, where there are always shootings and things, and is where the majority of the African American population is.
Was there racism in my post? No. I am simply stating facts.
My point: People make a huge deal about racism, claiming they are victims all the time, when in fact, they themselves are saying they are better than me because I am white.
Yeah, I've encountered racism. And I'm sick of people trying to cram "white guilt" down my throat. I'm white. I'm not going to bend over backwards to pay anybody for anything my ancestors did to their ancestors. I'm part Cherokee. It ain't like my ancestors had an easy time of things either.
Yes, there is legit racism in this country. It's terrible and should be stopped. But there's also just a lot of whiny bull as well. Don't even get me started on affirmative action... I've been accused of being racist because I don't bloody well care if someone is black, white, or purple. Because I don't say that I suck because I'm white. Well guess what? SKIN COLOR IS NO FREAKIN FACTOR IN WHAT MAKES A PERSON A PERSON. GET OVER IT.
*ahem*
That wasn't directed at anyone in this thread. That was just my rant. Your mother needs to be able to see past the surface of something she doesn't like. It's a sad state of affairs, and hopefully she'll get to know the human beneath the exterior she dislikes.

What makes a person a person is the fact that they are living and breathing. Color should not and should have never been an issue in the human society. I see no point in fretting over someone's skin tone. Its like fretting over ice cream. So many diffrent colors, not one is better than the other. They are all cold and used to cool you off in the summer time. They are all tasty to someone, and people enjoy it (most people.). People are all diffrent colors. They can be cold at times, or warm hearted at others...they are always loved by at least someone, and most people enjoy their company. So...why is skin tone a bad thing again? Beats me.
I am white. I dated a black male. His parents didn't mind us being friends, but as soon as it stepped into 'dating' they did not like it...all because I wasn't their nationality. Georgio and I loved eachother, and actually still do. He dumped me because his family kept getting onto him, and I said ok. We are still best of friends, and once again his parents don't mind us being that way. But as soon as it hit more than friends, they went wack. Why is this? It seems...it seems its the adults that always have that problem now. The teenagers are over it, they don't care about color. Its the adults that have the issue. I can understand the grandparents, for they lived in the time period of racism at its worst, and things are hard to change when you've lived through it...but the parents of us teens today? Thats where I lay confused.

Mechanism Ablazed ...SKIN COLOR IS NO FREAKIN FACTOR IN WHAT MAKES A PERSON A PERSON. Hmm... What does make a person a person? Their personality? Their soul? It is one thing to be proud of one's ethnic heritage. If that plays a part in their own definition of themselves, then that's cool. But it is not the sole definition of a human being.

Sometimes I sound racist because I'm just plain stupid. sweatdrop My best friend is Asian (I'm not sure what country) and for some reason his eyes slant way, way, way down. I can't count how many times he's had to say, "Darn it, Lex, I'm not sad! That's just my eyes!"
Eeehh... I feels really bad about your fiance. I agree with most people here, all you can do is pray.

*deep breath* Time for my rantings... I have a deep problem with racism. Being half Filipino, I have always been stereotyped as being of the lesser class. The people that I consider rednecks, yes I understand that's stereotyping as well, consider anyone who isn't white to be either black or mexican. They don't take the other major denominations into their considerations. Most of them are too ignorant to understand that there are other denominations out there. Now, the thing that irks me more than anything else is the group of people (honestly they are predominately white) that say we should send everyone back to "where they came from." Well, these guys don't seem to realize that they themselves came from another country. Just because the Caucasians came and took the land from the Native Americans and because they shipped the African Americans here as slaves does not make it any more their land than the other two. In fact, if anyone should be able to say it, it would be the full-blooded Native Americans. Another statement that I hear often is about the war in Iraq. The ignorants around here are always ranting about "Nuke 'em all, they're all the same." Yes, let us be like Hitler & kill all of the innocents just because of their heritage. Not to mention we really want the Nuclear Winter that the nuclear bomb wouldn't mind bringing on. That is ignorance in its purist form. Someone previously stated that they were not going to pay for what their ancestors did to someone else's. I understand that fully. Today's generation doesn't need to pay for the mistakes of their fathers. However, they do need to learn from them. Racism has led to a great fissure in the nation. Actually, make that the world. To learn from the mistakes is the key, but unfortunately, many of the people are continuing in their fathers' footsteps.
These are my rantings on Racism.
Final Note: Racism is bad. It tears countries apart and proves the true ignorance of the world.

Somehow it always seems like the caucasian ypes are the one who are most racist. I've no idea if this has occurred to them/us/everyone, but God's chosen people weren't white... And they still aren't. Still tan as can be, and they don't get sunburned as easily. I wish I didn't get sunburned so easily...
Giong through this topic a little bit reminded me of a snippet of The Chappelle Show I saw on Comedy Central once. It had a guy dressed in white, Kloo Klux Klan style, standing in front of a room full of white people and he was preaching "white power." Everyone wanted to know what he looked like, so he took off the hood and...he was a black guy. And he was still shouting "white power" while everyone was staring at him. 0.o

What an exciting and meaningful adaptive difference on which to base discrimination. rolleyes Mechanism Hmm... What does make a person a person? Not their skin color.

Death T-2 Somehow it always seems like the caucasian ypes are the one who are most racist. Well the very origin of the word 'Caucasian' is racist. Back in the 18th century, a 'scientist' (a German, I believe) formulated a theory that the range of human races found in the world was a result of the biblical fall from grace. He postulated that the color of an individual's skin was indicative of how far his race had fallen from grace -- in other words, the darker your skin the more corrupt you were and the lighter your skin the closer to God and the original Eden you were. Well, this scientist thought that the people of the caucuses were the most beautiful people in the world (read 'beautiful' as 'whitest') and thus coined the word 'Caucasian' to describe those people most closely resembling the first man and woman and who were closest to a state of purity. So perhaps Caucasian racism shouldn't be too surprising.

I agree with all of you. Its nice to see that you all speak your mind. My fiance is always looked down upon when he is in public. He lives with his father and stepmother, both who are white. He, like I said, is half asian and doesnt look like his father at all (Except maybe the height). Anyways people always look at him and think hes adopted and are rude. I agree though, the parents should be over it. And just to clarify its OTHER members of my family who don't like him. My mother is not racist at all. She always figured I'd date someone of another race. I've always had a thing for dark hair and dark eyes. I'm not sure why. Some people have called me racist against my own race just because I find guys of other ethnic backgrounds attractive. I really don't get it.
