Durem Clocktower

The Durem clock tower is a tower built with one easily-seen clock face. The clock tower itself is pretty much free-standing.

The mechanism inside the tower is known as a turret clock. It often marks the hour (and sometimes segments of an hour) by sounding large bells or chimes, sometimes playing simple musical phrases or tunes.

Although clock towers are today mostly admired for their aesthetics, they once served an important purpose. Before the middle of the twentieth century, most people did not have watches; clock towers were therefore placed near the centers of towns and were often the tallest structures there. Durem's clocktower is particulary famous for the attempted assassination of Johnny K. Gambino.

Durem.

The city that never slept.

Because someone was always blowing some part of it up.

It was here that our story would begin to unfold, right in front of the very Clock Tower that had undergone restoration due to the events from HoH*.

The last time Vahn had been in Durem, he had fallen right in the middle of the Cathedral, breaking his arm in the process and stealing a pick up truck*.

So to no surprise, he found himself in the city yet again, with the last two people he expected to be with.

"Why is it.... every time I run into you guys... I end up going on some weird adventure?" He was reclined lazily along the body of his motorcycle, wearing nothing but that undershirt, and faded jeans, his greaves gleaming in the sunlight.

It seemed like just yesterday when Vahn had been slummin' it at some bar in Latent, when Rage and Owle had appeared. Owle had been following Rage, and Rage had been apparently looking for Vahn (or maybe just an excuse to get the hell off the Island).

It was then that the strangeness had ensued, and they each 'recieved' a marble. A marble which came at the same time that demand in marbles had suddenly exploded sky high--- causing Rage to nearly accept someone's offer for a million dollars just to have the marble he had claimed from his hair.

A little more searching (i.e. beating the information out of some would-be marble jackers), revealed to the trio that something was indeed afoot. The closest place was Durem, only half a day's train ride away from Latent, so that's where they went.

And here they were.

"Don't you end up doing that even when you don't run into us?" Owle asked, pulling a tangle out of her wild blue hair. Long stretches of time seemed to pass between one of their meetings and the next...Owle just couldn't imagine Vahn lying on the beach all that time, or working some normal job. Where did he go when he was gone?

She was just glad for now that he and Rage weren't pushing her away from them. They both had that tendency to want to protect her...which meant not letting her go with them whenever they did something dangerous.

"Well...let's go in, then."

She hopped down from where she'd been sitting sideways on the back of the motorcycle, blunt claws tapping against the pavement as she landed. The smooth, ruddy brown scales that covered her feet lent her steps a strange, hollow sound as she approached the Circle of Justice headquarters.

"Yea, yea." His single good eye followed Owle's movements, as strangely... arousing... as they were?

He kicked the stand down, and slid off the side, following after her even as he gave a cursory glance towards Rage who was just doing whatever it is seaweed headed swordsmen did (lol stealth).

"Wow!"

Owle exclaimed, amazed by the rate her legs were carrying her past the huge clocktower. Rage and Vahn looked like they were even having trouble keeping up as she dragged them along behind...she thought Rage might be shouting, but with the roar of the wind in her ears she couldn't here what he was saying. This never happened! How was she doing this? Owle didn't know, but it felt so good...

The wind blew her hair over her eyes, all about her face, so it was impossible to see where she was headed. She didn't care. She just didn't want to stop running.

The winds brushed harshly against the defined frame of Sieg ecstuffuan adorned in the bright yellow jumpsuit that he was now famous for. He had his new team member sitting behind him on the large motercycle and it took a while for Sieg to realize that he didnt know the mans name.
"Yo man whats yo name?"

"Just call me Shiro.", he said in reply.

His hands were tightly grasping the edges of his seat, the wind blowing through his large over-sized yukata. If it wasn't tightly tied to his body, he would be flying through the air right now, but that's without the large shuriken hindering him.

"How long will it take?"

"Nice to meet you shiro. Where almost there.", Sieg said while passing a yellow stop light; having just made it. At this point they were cruising down the street.

Near the clocktower, a young mother sits with her children, one of whom is playing a simple game of Hoopla, attempting to put a ring around one of the many bottles that stand in a row. The other child sits a small distance away with a bag of marbles.

"Mama...mama my marbles!!!!" The older boy's marbles had scattered all over the ground and were sending people sliding all over the place while the mother attempted to gather them up, leaving her young child to play the game by himself.

"B...but I need help too..." The child with the hoops wailed, but his mother was too far away to hear his cries.

Sieg entered the area near the clocktower as he passed the light. Though suddenly before him a man in a business suit who walked the sidewalks would suddenly find his stride out of his control. Beneath his feet were the marbles of a child whom played nearby the clock tower and they would cause this man to slide out into the street in the path of Siegs roaring bike.

Siegs reactions would cause him to immediatly slam on the breaks as the man entered his path but his mind aided by spiritual influence already let him know that this would not be enough. Sieg would turn the bike to the right and lean to the right causing the bike to skid on the road, with his left foot he would begin to push with spiritual energy performing the spiritual lightness technique.

The mechanical energy of a spiritual origin ebbing from his foot would aid him to slow down before the bike would impact the man. Siegs right hand would extend behind him to stop his partner from falling off the bike due to the sudden movement. His desert yellow eyes first looked at the man in the business suit who was sprawled out on his butt before him; who had a look of sheer terror on his face.

Siegs eyes would then shift to the cause of the trouble, whom seemed to be a mother and her children. The cars behind Sieg had slowed down to a stop, after realizing that a car accident had nearly taken place before them. Sieg was in that moment trying to figure out what just happened.
"Excuse me sir. Are you alright?", SIeg would say to the man he nearly hit; but his eyes were still on the children. He now focused on the child who was crying...

'what the hell just happened', he thought.

The woman and older child were gathering up the marbles, while the young child with the bottles and hoops looked like he was about to throw a temper tantrum.

"I can't do it!!!" Tears began to well up in his eyes. He looked again at the bottles and tried again to throw the hoop over the edge of the bottle for a ringer but his stubby little arms just couldn't do it.

Shiro just stayed on the bike. He really didn't want to do anything right now, especially in a situation like this. His eyes soon focused on a young boy who was trying to throw a ring over the edge of a bottle.

I guess it couldn't be helped... He jumped off and approached the boy.

"Do it like this...", he said to the boy, throwing a hoop towards the bottle and managed to get a ringer. "Just try..."

Sieg would take his bike off the street, because even he had no right to hold up traffic. His partner would most likely also move, unless his partner knew something Sieg didnt. He would then help the fallen man off the street. Though the bad part about this was, that all the marbles that had fallen onto the street would be crushed into dust by the cars that rolled on past. Sieg had stopped paying attention to the child but was more concerned about the man he had almost hit. No real damage had been done to him, but Sieg took even near-car-accidents seriously.

The boy sniffled and looked at the man, picking up another hoop to try, mimicking his motions as best he could. It bounced off but almost made it. He picked up another ring and did it again, this time getting a ringer.

"I did it, I did it!!" He danced around and then ran for the bottle which was close to the street. "I did it, mommy, I did it!!" If he wasn't careful, the boy was going to run out in traffic.

Shiro kept the boy in his sights, worried that he might go out into the street. He would probably go back to Sieg when the boy's safe, but he would probably need to watch him. Just for a little bit.
