Base of the Dam Built between the two walls of the ravine and at the top of what used to be a waterfall, the Dam stands tall, solid, and unyeilding. As a riverbed, the ground is soft, but rocky and barren. The ledge in front of the dam has about 50 feet of space between the dam and the edge of the waterfall. From there it is either a 200 foot climb up the ladders or cliffs to the top of the dam, or a 100 foot drop onto the jagged rocks below at the base of the waterfall. A few rough trails have been cut out to decend down the more tame areas, into the Dead Woods. The Dam has been destroyed... all that remains is some debris, and a river running over the edge, falling into the Dead Woods below.

[From Dead Woods, Tabi's post] Jacob took point on the column of men, moving up the thin path quickly enough. The miners were used to physical labor, and some of the men with him may very well have carved this path out.
He hefted his portable radio, calling in as they moved: "We're at the base of the dam, twenty-four of us. Is there anyone moving up top, or do we need to send men up? Can you find out?"
He expected the man in the truck below to relay this on the CB back to base-camp.

Sam and the other men simply followed after.

There were a few figures visible moving about at the top of the dam.
One of them leaned over the side, looking down, and then radioed.
"No suspicious activity reported so far."
edit: (( The dumptruck cannot be in this thread. It belongs in the Dead Forest. There is no way it could have ever gotten up here. ))

Jacob let the message fly, and evaluated the situation. There were rifles a plenty for the men, and he and the other merc both could shoot. There were many ways to access the dam, mostly because the cliffs could be climbed.
But, there were other areas they could focus on. He made som initial plans: he'd wait here on the lower level, the girl with the rifle should probably be up top. Furthermore, any supplies inside the Dam should be removed and set up as defensive battlements.
He passed this information on to the miners, and set them to work.
Jacob himself moved to his haunches and looked deep into the forest. They were out there. All the miners had to do was wait.

"I don't know why...but these things always tend to like explosions..." She brought a large gas tank into view. " Any ideas?" The rifle was slung on her back as she dragged it into view. "I'm going to go up, k? The driver has instructions to ram anything that doesn't look like one of us."

Jacob looked Sam over, "Great, we don't have boiling oil, but it'll work. When the big-bad-and-ugly shows up, shower him with gas, and hit him with a tracer bullet. We may not be mages, but we can pretend" Jacob winked. The gas, if it goes errant, could just as easily set the dam aflame (it was only wet wood)... but the contact of a monster's fists, even on fire, wouldn't do it.
He just had to hope whoever threw the gas didn't miss.
edit: In an instant his eyes were out to the woods. There was movement. Big movement. He moved to the radio: time to be inspirational. He didn't know what was coming out of that woods, but he figured the men may need a pep-talk. "Alright, Men! Stand strong! Get your guns, ready your weapons... Remember, even if it's a monster, it can be killed."

"********!" Sam didn't have time to climb up. There was a big ******** machine headed towards them. "I'm going back...." She then began running, she wasn't about to let that poor man she'd left die alone. A machine was one thing...that was a monstrosity.
She radioed in, having grabbed a radio at the camp; "BACK UP AT DAM ASAP!" Too bad she didn't stand a chance of making it on time.

"Move it!" She pointed towards the top of the dam. "Keep it covered boys!" She positioned herself to look down on the woods.

There was a loud sound as shadowed claws dug into the earth and pulled itself up. It was almost at its destination now. All it had to do was start hitting.
After my next post a timer will begin. The rook will score a hit on the dam once every ten minutes. Uninterupted it will take the rook two hours to destroy the dam.

Sey, carried by her glowing Guardian burst from the woods and entered the area at the base of the Dam. Eint stopped close to the Rook and loosened it's grip on Sey as she stared at the rook with furrowed eyes.
"Orders are to destroy the Dam. I'm here to help you - may Falis watch over us all." Turning away from the Rook and staring at the scattering of miners at the base, Sey breathed deep.
"Falis, protect us."

Tabi Kat She looked down, only to spot....whatever in the ******** that was. ******** it, she just began using her rifle as a snipe. And firing. Hopefully, it was killable. "Kill it if you can!" Lettting the others shoot as well if they had rifles and could see it.

The rook was pretty damn determined, we'll give it that. Even with bullets hitting nearby it kept on climbing. But as it got closer well, more and more hit. Yet they didn't even get close the damn thing. Not because of physical endurance, but because of the barrier Sey had cast.
It pulled itself over the ledge... Right in time for the barrier to break. One of Sams shots dug into the shade's shoulder. Causing it to reel back and almost fall off the cliff.
But it was a hulking creature and it would take more than that to stop it.
Time, 8:32 AST. Let the countdown begin.

"Keep going boys!" She saw it falter slightly, which meant whatever had been protecting it, wasn't anymore. "Fire for all your worth!" She fired again, this time aiming for it's arm, head or any extreminties that could balance. Her aim, to get it off the ******** wall.

One of the men from up top the dam shouted into a radio.
"What the hell is that... THING!? Someone, anyone! We need reinforcements at the dam! There's some type of MONSTER here, it looks like it could eat a truck!"
