It's as it says: What's your favorite jazz pianist and what's your favorite composition done by him or her?

Dave Brubeck and Chick Corea; "Take Five" by Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck & "Armando's Rumba" by Chick Corea are my favorite songs.

I'm probably going to have to say Oscar Peterson, though I haven't listened to too much of his stuff. There's just something about him I like a lot.

Definitely Chick Corea. My favourite songs of his would have to be either Spain or La Fiesta. Dave Brubeck and Kenny Chaney (uncle biggrin ) are up there as well

Have you heard the extended orchestral version of Spain? My friend keeps telling me he'll give me a CD with it to listen to, but I have yet to hear this thing.

My friend told me that Chick wrote a piano concierto centered around Spain.
But I think he just heard the Concierto de Aranjuez (I think that's what it's called.) Chick's introduction in Spain is the adagio from the second movement of Aranjuez.

I think he did something like that in his album "My Spanish Heart".

That, and there was another CD where he did Spain with an entire orchestra. I'm not too sure what that was called.......

I played Spain with my schools marching band once. Not much of a football game song, but still cool. Our director let us listen to this old recording of Spain as an example, for those of us who hadnt heard it before (laughs smugly). It may have been the orchestral version you're talking about, but the record was too scratched up for me to tell. even so, it sounded pretty sweet.

Dudley Moore (any of you that're members here and are familiar with jazz history should be aware that he was also a very accomplished pianist as well as a great actor), and to be quite honest, there's never been anything of his that I've ever heard that I haven't liked.
