Concept:
History: Ukata's parentage is unknown, at least his blood parentage. As a cub he was adopted into the litter with Ushuafu and Audilifu. Growing up with them was interesting, to say the least, until all three went their seperate ways. Ukata has spent most of his time traveling about, wandering from pride to pride and messing with as many creatures heads as possible.
A Concept of Denial:
Why Denial?
Denial is something people live with everday. Odds are, at least 50% of the people you see every day are in denial of something, or are denying themselves something (wether these somethings be such common things as a certain type of food, or drink, or more harmful things such as denial of an unpleasant memory.)
Most likely, you yourself are in denial of something this very minute, wether or not you're aware of it. This concept expresses itself through so many different areas of life, and yet the majority of the population only looks upon it when its in a negative light. The truth is, denial can be quite a wonderful thing, as well as something deeply aggrivating and occassionally destructive.
Denial as a positive thing, the light most people forget, can be found in its psycological definition. "An unconscious defense mechanism used to reduce anxiety by denying thoughts, feelings, or facts that are consciously intolerable." This simple definition holds the best side of denial--its defensive side. Many people have benefited from this, and while continued denial can lead to more negative things, its immediate surfacing to block things that could lead to greater harm, is something to be thankful for.
On a lighter, but none the less positive, note, the ability to consiously deny things can be put to a lot of use. Without this, we would not have the means to restrain ourselves from bad foods or harmful acts. Self restraint, and possibly will power itself, is quite closely tied with denial.
The Darker Side
More commonly know, the darker side of Denial tends seemingly outweighs any good it can cause. Will power aside, the ability to deny reality can be a quite dangerous tool indeed if given into "the wrong hands." Just as denial allows us time to deal with large issues, there are those who use it to escape those issues indefinatly. Those with lesser, or no, morals can use denial to escape and twist reality to their own whims. Such persons can include, but are not limited to, serial murderers, rapists, theives, and drug addicts.
Not all of those who use denial in such a way are so "evil" in nature. Many of those afflicted with this "disease" are what we would call normal people. The more dangerous individuals simply stand out a lot more than those less harmful to the people around them. One cannot say that there isn't a danger in overuse of denial, for self delusion, of which denial is deeply involved, is never a good thing.
Ukatazaji is a singularly precarious being. Ever fluctuating beliefs make his thought process hard to follow, and more often than not his actions take a completely unpredictable shift halfway through. Wether there is reason behind his rhyme is a question no one has ever been able to answer, though many have tried.
One could call Ukata a habitual lier, one could call him crazy; no matter the explanation you pick, there is one constant truth: Ukatazaji is the most disagreeable being you're likely to meet. Never agreeing with anything another says about his own person, Ukata could deny that air is good for a living creature until his own fur turned blue. To some extreame, it is often joked among those who know him that the lion's death will never be, for in the event he would be killed, Ukata's single-minded denial of that fact would surely turn him into the living dead. Perhaps its already happened, and no one is the wiser.
This contradictory existance keeps him as the bane of most sane creatures, though those with good humor might stand him for a time. More annoying to most is Ukata's steadfast seriousness. Jokes, the rare ones that are made, are even kept in a serious tone. Still, there remains some debate that Ukata's entire seriousness is his own way of a joke. Surely, if asked, he'd deny it.
The Powers of Denial
Denial's powers arn't what anyone might term as "great" or "powerful" at a first glance. In fact, even a second or third look might not find any power there at all. If you look beneath the surface, however, this force can become quite the titan.
Despite his seeming inability to be honest about himself with others, he's quite astute at telling what those in front of him are denying, and, if he chooses, to encourage those denials to grow. In reverse of that, he can lessen these denials. For a person whos denial is wrapped up in self will, these effects can be particularly destructive by either lessening their ability to deny themselves those things that are bad for themselves, or adversely increasing their denial to an absurd degree.
As an example, eating disorders can be invoked. Allowing one's self to over indulge in food, especially of the sweet variety, can be linked to a lack of self restraint, just as anorexia can be linked to too much restraint.
While these effects are hard to see, and even harder to prove, they can go a long way in making or breaking a person. In this way, Ukata has lived his life fairly peacefully as he's able to easily manipulate from the background rather than get involved in a more obvious, agressive manner.
