Branching RPQuote: Prompt 1: The group has split up; while a large number of people remain in the storage wing, you have decided to help clear out some of the smaller rooms. Things are packed more securely here, and while there are some oddities on display, for the most part everything is secured in an array of wooden, stone, or metal boxes of varying security. You may see a strange item here or there, or something that catches your eye. There is an undeniably weird hum of energy in the room but Almadel has trusted you to behave. While you must stay in the area, you can investigate anything. You can PM The Space Cauldron or DM xigglet on Discord if you want to check anything before posting; you can also ask if you can interact with anything or gain extra information about something your character is involved in. It is possible to find an artifact or relic that is some way important or relevant to your character but you must have permission. If you are interested in finding something, please be prepared to give a physical description and any relevant lore; we can work things out with you.As you investigate, you hear a strange noise. Roll a 1d4 to locate it. If you roll 1 it is coming from an air vent If you roll a 2 it is coming from a storage box If you roll a 3 it is coming from the wall If you roll a 4 it is coming from under the floor You can decide how to get to them; you may be fortunate and find a loose tile but you may have to break something to reach them (at player choice). Just remember that Almadel wants his museum in the best condition possible… Quote: Prompt 2: You have located the sound–Kosopods, ranging from six inches to two feet wide. They are hard shelled isopods with many legs and prickly tails. They can be nearly any neutral color, it just depends on what they have been eating. They will immediately try to scatter. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have located; you can decide their size. Quote: Prompt 3: The Kosopods immediately attack. They are frantic and hungry; they can spit acid that causes agitation and eventually burns through things and they have many sharp legs and sharp points on their shells. They can bite. Their shells are very hard and they can only be damaged by flipping them over to expose their delicate underbelly or possibly by overwhelming them with magic. They cannot be starseeded. They are vulnerable to fire but it might not be a good idea to start setting things ablaze if you want to stay on Almadel’s good side. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have defeated; if you roll lower than the last prompt, you will need to roll again until you defeat them all or hope that your allies rolled high enough to take out some of yours as well. If you roll a higher number here than you did in prompt 2, you can help your allies. Quote: Prompt 4: Once the Kosopods have been defeated, you can take a moment to breathe. It sounds like things have calmed down outside in the large room that you arrived in. You can look around the area if you like (and if you sent anything in to find or examine, you can identify it now. It may be possible to steal small items from Almadel if you have sent in for approval). This post can be considered an exit or you can continue roleplaying until you are ready to leave. You can rejoin the closing post of the ORP when it is announced! This should be on Friday the 30th. While you do not need to have this RP finished at the time of the close, please try to close this RP promptly! You must write 500 words in this RP to be eligible for the prize! Commander Aliez Action: Talking to the others about options. “Maybe we could drain their energy and they’d be more docile?” he hummed thoughtfully as they peered into a side room that others hadn’t wandered into yet. He’d never tried taking energy without express permission from whoever was giving it, and he felt a little uncomfortable about suggesting it now, but it wasn’t as though energy couldn’t be replenished. And it was for the Kosopods and their safety.
He definitely understood Lysanna’s concerns and nodded along with the others. He appreciated that Tenoch seemed enthusiastic about their endeavors.
While he wasn’t sure who would end up joining them in their little gathering mission, or who would keep watch out in the storage room, he wanted to make sure everyone was safe and accounted for.
“I have extra food with me, we can try giving them too,” he offered, knowing that others had their stashes as well. “Or… maybe there’s something Mr. Almadel wouldn’t mind being used… we could say it was already destroyed?” he winced at his own suggestion. He didn’t want to damage anyone else’s property, but if it was to save lives? Yeah, he knew what his decision would be.
He glanced over to Vyn and Andreiya, relieved that they were there as well. He would do his best to protect all of them, and provide medical support as needed. Hopefully it wasn't necessary. Quote: All Vanguard are invited to join, but if they want to stay in the ORP that’s okay too!

Character: Corporal FangnylAction: Thinking, following the other Vanguard away from the main room Fangnyl approached, quietly at first, then greeted the others with a shy little wave. " Hey. Planning a way to save the kosopods, right?" he asked, Aliez's words finally catching up to him. " I'd prefer not to destroy any of the artifacts, either, but anything we can do to sate them, maybe he'll have some kind of transport cages we can use for them to get them somewhere safe?"

Cadet LysannaAction: Entering a side room with her fellow Vanguard It was nice to be able to spend time with members of the Vanguard outside of their shared dwelling but Lysanna would have chosen a more normal setting in where they could have spent quality time together. But that could be a thought that she would never share with her comrades-in-arms. Right now, there was a matter of secrecy amongst the group as they were all technically in favour of rescuing the Kosopods that had besieged this Almadel's space museum. The fact that there wasn't much free spots in which one could stand in the tightly packed side room had the cadet testing the weight of a crate before gingerly applying her weight to it: it held but not without some warning creaks. Her gaze sought out the Commanders: Aliez, Andreiya and Vyn before she heard the skittering of the creatures they'd been brought to annihilate, but in which the Vanguard were now trying to save. There were still quite a few questions on her mind about how things would work out. Things could go wrong at any moment in time.
Lysanna still was not one hundred percent over the moon with the idea to save the Kosopods to bring live ones back to Earth but at least she would be able to contribute some suggestions, and had already done so. As the sounds of others moving past their open doorway lessened Lysanna found her voice. It was hushed but at least she was bringing up her worries and also her suggestions.
"If we succeed in this plot to save some Kosopods and then if the Commodore doesn't agree with what we've done, can I ask what will happen to the live creatures we've brought back," Lysanna paused before continuing, "also, has anyone thought of how we would conceal our smuggled Kosopods out of here without anyone noticing?"

Cadet RhysiCurrently: inspecting the area, weapon drawn Ears perking up at the phrase drain their energy, Rhysi silently considered it. Were their numbers enough to make it worth the effort? Well, even if not, she preferred that option to feeding the kosopods their personal resources.Short bow out, she began to inspect the area, only bothering to briefly speak up at Lysanna's question. "Not smuggling. Payment." Hopefully not the only payment the merchant would be giving them, though. He didn't even want the creatures in the first place. Pausing, Rhysi tilted her head, brows coming together as she tried to place a small noise that didn't quite fit with the ambient chatter and footsteps of the Vanguard. It took a long moment to pick it out again, barely audible and... She slowly crouched lower and the sound became clearer. Rhysi's expression grew worse. "Problem."Quote: As you investigate, you hear a strange noise. Roll a 1d4 to locate it. If you roll a 4 it is coming from under the floor

Corporal Neryn Action: Looking around, searching, hoping they don't need to kill anything
Neryn gave a nod to Aliez and the others as they entered, pausing a moment to tie up their hair in a messy teal bun. They'd absolutely over thought the whole thing about the rest of the Vanguard not liking them; if they were hated or shunned, then the Commander wouldn't have waved at them or invited them along. They were all working towards a common goal, just from different angles.
They'd never had much in the way of anxiety before but apparently the whole coming to Earth thing and being forced to pick a side really sort of made that a whole thing now. They weren't exactly thrilled but, here they were they supposed.
Regardless, now was not the time to have an anxiety attack - that's what the human's internet called it anyway - when there were creatures to try to save and protect.
They tuned their data pad to listen for sounds as Rhysi noted something coming from the floor. Another sound pinged on the data pad and they moved to one of the air vents.
"Another, here," they announced, looking at the air vent. It was at floor level and they crouched to shine a line from the data pad into the grate to try to see anything.

Commander Andreiya Action: Examining boxes to find sturdy material, has heard a Kosopod beneath the floorboard
Andreiya had passed out what food and plants he could and gave them to anyone who wanted some. He had put the rest away, all but a small bag of dried apples. Naeria’s suggestion earlier to use boxes seemed like a good plan, and in the side room he saw plenty.
“I will take as many as I can carry,” Andreiya decided. “Regardless of who sees. If they try to stop us, I will simply use the ComTech to get back to Earth. No one will stop me. And I would call the Commodore immediately for advice. If he disagrees, then I know he can help us send them somewhere safe. It will work out,” he said with pure conviction.
“...I suppose if we did want to hide it, though. We could have a few people hold whatever Kosopods we can recover and make a circle around them. If we stand close enough together, maybe no one will notice. We will figure it out,” he reassured, though his brows knitted together just slightly.
He wasn’t going to be deterred, though. He had a goal in mind and even if he could only save one Kosopod, he was going to do his best.
There were many boxes around the room. A wooden box would likely not be sturdy enough to keep them for any long period of time, but some of the metal or stone boxes might be able to. He pulled out his ComTech and began scanning the boxes as he began to search the room for Kosopods. While most of them registered as common materials, there were a few boxes made up of unique components that might have improved their chances at safely containing a Kosopod.
He pulled a few of the more viable boxes out in an effort to make it easier to contain them. He had already extracted his Source Stone.
As he moved one box, he stiffened. He heard movement, not from next to him but from under him. “Oh. But how could they have gotten under the floor?” He moved another box, searching for any holes in the wall or any loose tiles on the floor.
One of the boxes next to him had a loose lid and he was able to pry it off. Something had scurried through there before; wrapped items had torn paper. He quickly removed them into a pile next to the metal chest to make a holding space. Quote: While many of the boxes are locked, it is possible to find some that can be emptied out. Some materials seem more durable than others and maybe lined with special materials that were originally designed to protect magical or fragile artifacts. Vanguardians can use their ComTech to scan to find the most durable containers. They can remove artifacts from the boxes and can examine anything they pull out. If they want to find anything unique or possibly worth keeping, please let me know on Discord or PM The Space Cauldron! Source Stones typically draw out energy slowly but with extreme focus (or panic) it can stun smaller Kosopods for a few moments. Larger ones may be more resilient and will fight against it; it will take the same amount of time (but more effort) to stun a larger Kosopod as it would several smaller ones. Vanguardians may team up to target the same large Kosopod to hasten the process.

Cadet TenochDice: 1 Action: Helping search for Kospods -- What's that sound coming from Neryn's air vent?! "It's a shame we can't simply shunt living beings into our ComTechs...or a spare pod...." spoken to the group in general, and he didn't decline any extra bits of treat and herb offered by Andreiya and Aliez, there was no such thing as too many bribes when it came to creatures with a mind centered on reproduction... Or so Tenoch assumed, he could only imagine what studies could reveal should they bring home something live, flourishing! It felt to him so akin to taking some of his own back, a solid win against a place that'd taken so much. He quietly wondered how much effort it would take to convince his fellows to lie convincingly, should it become necessary. At least to their supposedly magnanimous and magical host, if not to the commodore directly. Hearing Aliez's voice from another corner of boxes made him realize he wouldn't even need to go to that much effort. Such determination---For payment, for a prize, did it matter what the motivation was in the end? So long as they were all on the same page. "I do like the idea of trying to drain them, if a snack or two can't coax them out," and it was Neryn's call that drew him, while the rest seemed perplexed with the scuttling going on beneath the thick, tiled floors, and whether or not any of the closest boxes could be breached. Because it was loud enough in the hollow floorspace that he could hear it also. "I hear it too..." standing just behind where the teal haired corporal crouched, Tenoch squinted over his shoulder at the space lit by the light from Neryn's tech. "The question is whether we try and pry it open now, or wait until after we have a proper receptacle for the creature?"

Cadet LysannaAction: Drawn to the noises coming from the air vent... "It may be that we see this as a form of payment Rhysi but am I not right in asking how we are going to get these creatures out from under Almadel's scrutiny. We need to be finding the kosopods, yes, but we also need to find a way to cart them out. Do we think that our host would just let us take live specimens home when he wanted them destroyed?"
The noise that was coming from the corner where two other Vanguard members were investigating an air vent caught Lysanna's attention then and she broke off in speaking to drift over to where Neryn, a corporal; and a fellow cadet, Itztenoch were discussing the means in how they could access the creature(s) that were holed up inside. "Maybe bribing them with food will make them less likely to attack when we open the vent up," she offered up as a solution. "There's that expression on Earth that goes the way to a person's heart is through their stomach. Maybe it could work on kosopods too, you know; buy us some good will before we move to extract them."
It probably was not the best plan considering these creatures lived to simply eat and breed but simple plans had worked before; why couldn't it work this time as well.

Commander VynAction: Reassuring Lysanna. Musing out loud. Hearing noise under the floor with Rhysi and Andreiya. “I don’t think our host seems terribly concerned with how the kosopods are removed so long as they no longer pose a problem for him,” Vyn attempted to reassure Lysanna. “Hiding our intentions from him likely isn’t as much of a concern for us as hiding them from the Earthlings, who may assume we mean to infest the Earth. Even those who don’t think so poorly of us might not trust our abilities to contain them.”
It was all projection, as far as Vyn was concerned. Earthlings were careless, so they expected everyone else to be, too.
Unsure of himself as he always was, Vyn stuck close to Aliez and Andreiya. Alone, he felt conspicuous in his rank; together, he felt a little more as if he belonged. Vyn opened one of the boxes in his search for something with which to carry what kosopods they managed to save, peering through its contents with mild interest.
“What are the moral implications of appropriating some of these artifacts, do you think?” Vyn wondered, voice a bit quiet. “None of this truly belongs to our host, does it? Shouldn’t they be returned to their rightful owners? Even if the worlds they came from no longer exist in the manner they once did…”
What if Almadel had things from Velenia?
Vyn wasn’t able to think on this for long, distracted by Rhysi and Andreiya detecting a noise under the floor. Vyn could hear it, too.

Commander Aliez Roll: 4 Action: Asking someone (anyone can respond) to maybe try to break open a floor tile (unless they have a better idea). Sorry, he only has a shield. Aliez nodded to Fangnyl, relieved to see him there. And relieved that the others seemed to be on the same page, more or less, when it came to saving them. The details would need to be worked out, but if they could contain as many as possible, surely the Commodore would have an idea of what to do with them.
“There’s… always Velenia,” he suggested sheepishly as he looked around for the source of the scurrying. “To take them, I mean. Ah, well, we would have to figure out how to get them there, but it’s not like anyone is living there right now. And if these Kosopods could remove any of the debris and toxicity left behind…”
He didn’t know if it would be a good or bad idea, but it wasn’t as though they would wreak havoc on any other ecosystem if they were taken to a place that had been unwillingly abandoned.
Aliez was still determined to find a way to restore it! But it would be a huge cleanup. If they had a little help already…
He knew Lysanna wasn’t too keen about bringing the Kosopods back to Earth, and he wasn’t, either. But there had to be something they could do.
He also had a lot to chew on about what Vyn said. He was right. The artifacts probably didn’t even belong to Almadel.
They needed to first figure out how to start transporting these creatures. He could hear what Rhysi, Andreiya, and Vyn were all attempting to inspect. There was definitely something under the tiles on the floor.
But how could they get under the floor?
“Vyn, or…” he glanced around at the others. He trusted them and appreciated their efforts. He believed they were all strong and capable, although he wasn’t as close to many of them as they once were before reaching Earth.
Once, things were different. They really felt like a family. He wanted that again.
“Could someone break open one of these tiles, please? I think that’s the only way to see what's under them,” he winced. He didn’t want to break anything, but…
With a large surge of Chaotic power coming from the main room, he could only assume that they were running out of time.

Cadet TenochDice: N/A Action: Smash or Pass — Tenoch has chosen to smash the tile, and maybe unearth some Kosopods. Sorry, Almandel! Bill it to the Commodore. “That is clever—“ to Lysanna, and how fascinating the Earth sayings were. How apt, maybe, this one in particular was for this situation here. Though now he wondered about the digestive habits of the Kosopods, how chambered were their stomachs? How deadly were the fluids contained within their sectioned shells? Whether or not all the people who talked about cooking him amidst the rabble of chaos and order aligned humans had any sort of merit — were they all simply seeking to fill their hearts through their stomachs?! Would a Kosopod even be digestible in a stomach? Shell and all! Surely not, there was no way… But the saying— There was really only the one way to find out if it held any merit— if the Kosopods had the type of heart; or hearts, or pulsing organs that could be won with food-love born of a stomach. “Have your food ready then, Cadet. We’re going to see if the Earthlings' saying has any real merit,” Itztenoch sounded like he was having fun, the barest hint of a smile that broke beyond his oft-bored facade and finally reached his eyes, overtaking his features. They weren’t getting anywhere with the grate covering the air vent in the way. The vent might need a tool to break it loose, a bit of leverage and amount of prying open—- maybe with help? But sans that, he could certainly do some work elsewhere—- There were softer things to shatter, easier ways to get through what blocked them from the quarry they were so determined to save. He’d noted that the others seemed to indicate the floor, those ones which hadn’t also indicated the sounds coming from the vent they’d spent time crouched around. It truly did seem like most kosopods were in one of two places, max. And now with Aliez calling for aid? For action. His mind was more easily set on which direction to move in. “Here—come with me for a second. Neryn, we’ll be back!“ Waiving Lysanna along encouragingly as he quick-stepped away from Neryn suddenly, it wasn’t as though they’d be far, and maybe with Neryn keeping watch for movement beyond the shadows of the techs light? They could simultaneously have chances at gaining more intel on what, and how many, and how large the creatures in the vent were. While also getting some of the others free. “ Vyn! If this shatters my blaster, you’ll be kind enough to explain it to the commodore for me, won’t you?” His words were dry tease, dull with disuse, he eyed the section of tile Aliez seemed most focused on pointing off. “And I would personally be fine with…what is the wording for it…Ah...asking for forgiveness instead of permission where all of *this* is concerned,” a brief passing wave at the space around them, and then he was kneeling on the tile, feeling the skittering vibrations, feeling the thick marbling shiver. “Let’s hope Lysanna’s food offering fills their stomachs with love for us—“ A hope held like a still breath, before he was raising his blaster high and smashing it against the tile like a hammer, once, twice, again (how thick could it be?) he secretly hoped too, that his blaster survived well enough to still work after he was done. For he knew how non-lethal its current settings were, how useful that may be; especially when anything that could go wrong likely would. He hoped only that they could collectively reach the goal they’d set out to accomplish with as little chaos as possible…. Stars knew he’d had his Earthly fill of such things.

Corporal Caelyna Dice: N/A Action: Attempting to use her sickle to pry up floor tiles
Caelyna hate that she felt so unfocused, so...distracted. The sound of the skittering kosopods seemed to come from every direction at once, and it felt as if trying to pin it down to one place, to search and help her comrades, was....far too much to ask.
So she drifted, trying to look like she was searching for something--but not quite able to properly get herself to look.
How pathetic was she. The Cadets--they were all dedicated and searching, and so were her fellow Corporals, and she was just...useless. Fortunately for her, Aliez had a plan, and she tapped her foot against the floor, wondering how hollow it was.
She was a good bit away from Aliez and Tenoch both, but it still felt like there might be more buzzing under her feet--or maybe she was totally imagining it.
"I should be able to crack open the floor here," she offered, turning her sickle around and smacking the heavy hilt into the tile, then using the blade end in an effort to pry it up. Her Source Stone remained in her other hand, ready to start draining kosopods if they were present--the more they could gather and bring back, the less chance there was of seeing them suffer and die for the crime of...existing and needing food.

Cadet LysannaAction: Digging out trail mix to feed to floor tile kosopods that could emerge There had been a moment, brief, when Lysanna had thought that her idea had fallen flat amongst her peers of trying to buy goodwill from the kosopods through food bribery. That moment passed though when it seemed like Itztenoch waived her away from the air vent. His words and actions seemed almost jovial in nature as he moved towards the section of floor that Aliez had indicated that he heard sounds of movement from. A quick glance to one side saw Caelyna was also starting to pry up floor tiles and Lysanna made a quick decision. She brought out a bag of what Earthlings called "Trail mix" and poured a half of the bag's contents into her palm before she quickly dropping the rest of the bag onto a free crate for any of the other Vanguard to use. Kneeling at the edge of the tile Lysanna's breath caught as Itztenoch's ministrations finally saw the tile shattering. Given the ruckus that was coming from further away, the sound of the tile smashing probably wouldn't have been noticed.
'Here goes nothing ... and everything' the cadet thought as an opening had been provided for the sounds of scurrying that was growing louder. The fact that three kosopods emerged from the hole was a little daunting and Lysanna quickly dumped her palm-filled amount of trail mix in front of the creatures just hoping and praying that they'd be distracted enough by the food that her teammates could help in subduing them. Her own source stone appeared now that her hands were free as she pressed it to the smallest kosopod that had emerged and was looking to be the smartest one as it tried to skitter away from the other pair.
"I've got this one. Someone get the other two. They won't stay distracted for long," and it was true. Already it seemed like the remaining two kosopods had almost devoured the amount of food that she had put down.

Commander Vyn“You can explain it to the Commodore yourself,” Vyn told Tenoch, not unkindly. “He will appreciate plainspokenness and sincerity when considering any future promotions.”
Speaking for the Commodore was not an undertaking Vyn felt comfortable with. Even though he was certain about what he’d said, being even partially correct wouldn’t have done much for his confidence. He felt, as always, far too seen. His infatuation with the Commodore had long been apparent among his peers. Vyn hadn’t often been troubled by it when he’d been a Cadet, new to Earth and as far from home as the rest of them. He had assumed most shared in his great respect and adoration. As a Commander, however, Vyn thought his fawning admiration might not do him any favors—especially now, when faith in the Commodore had been shaken for so many who had once admired him.
Vyn crouched down to assist with the breaking open of the floor tiles. Tenoch and Caelyna both took to the task well, but Vyn thought his weapon being of a more substantial size and weight might make the process easier for all of them. If he damaged it in the process despite the care he took with it, he would simply repair it once they returned to Earth.
He did not allow himself to think of doing so in the Commodore’s company (quietly companionable, perhaps, as the Commodore worked on some project of his own). He didn’t allow himself to consider Aliez’s suggestion about Velenia either, even though his own thoughts had previously leaned in that direction. For now, he would think only of the task at hand.
“Two more,” Vyn said, adding to Lysanna’s count, as his efforts freed another pair of them.

Commander Aliez Aliez took a step back as both Tenoch and Caelyna offered to try and break open the tile. While they got to work, he quickly went to find what looked like a solid box to help Lysanna gather them as she distracted them.
Vyn also managed to lure out a couple more.
“And here!” Aliez gasped when four more scurried out. He quickly swept some of the trail mix that Lysanna had into the box with a couple of the little kosopods.
Outside of their room, he could hear quite the commotion happening. He was worried about those who might still be out in the frey, whether because they decided to remain there, or because they couldn’t get to the side room in time before everything broke out into Chaos.
“We should hurry,” he suggested, looking up at his fellow Vanguard. They would have to save as many as they could. Maybe they’d be able to figure out what to do with them -- whether keep or free them -- once they had all the ones from that room saved.
