This room is one of the two large circular rooms on the map. Once you are all inside, the door closes behind you. The door seems to be sealed by some sort of Chaos and the room is covered in a dark fog.

This is the same fog that obscured the twelve paths in the Wilds and the path to the Observatory!

There is no going back. At least, not the way you came. You will need to find a new way out.

There is a sphere in the center of the room that looks like an orb with stars, constellations and astronomical phenomena. In fact, it looks a lot like the orb that is Urania’s personal item. But if you have been to Urania previously, you recognize it and know that, once activated, it can clear the fog.

It projects a voice that all in the room can hear:

“Fallen stars are needed for activation. If all fallen stars are used up, please supply more. If no more fallen stars are available, you can add your wish to a used star. A prompt for the type of wish wanted will be supplied. Once it shines, it is ready to aid in activation.”

Then the center opens on the sphere. Inside are these ‘fallen stars’. They look like konpeitō and are of a size that fits perfectly in the palm of both hands.

Then it adds:

“What is your greatest fear that you wish to avoid?”

Quote:
You must answer the question about your wish. Every 24 hours, more of the room will light up depending on how many fallen stars have been lit.

Half of the answers must be submitted and cause the fallen stars to shine for the characters in this group to not be affected by this room’s Chaos.

Quote me to submit your answer to the question.

This role-play will last 72 hours.

Belmont, Squire of Jupiter

Another room that felt like it could have been a trap. The fog was as ominous as ever, but Belmont was quickly acclimating to it. He’d known there was probably no going back once he stepped forward, so he only did so when he was in the company of the two he’d arrived wth. He wasn’t going to go anywhere without Perdita and Connie.

It wasn’t another riddle but the words didn’t quite make sense, anyway. He recalled what Urania had said about fallen stars, but the machine had done a good job of giving them instructions. He wondered who had passed through these halls before, if they’d been responsible for imprinting wishes or fears.

They’d already been here for long enough, he didn’t have time to ponder a hypothetical past.

He approached the fallen stars and after a few seconds of observation he reached in and took one out. It wasn’t as heavy as he expected, but he held it in both hands to make sure he didn’t drop it.

What was his greatest fear?

He rolled the meteorite between his palms while he pondered his answer.

“I don’t know my greatest fear,” he mused. There were a lot of practical things to be afraid of. “I guess losing my starseed is a pretty big fear.” Been there, done that. Was it his greatest fear, though?

He didn’t know how to weigh fears. Was there a way to get this question wrong?

Belmont wasn't sure if they were just supposed to think it or if there was some greater technique, so he spoke quietly, but aloud. He wasn't ashamed of this fear.

“Dying with regrets. Not living life to the fullest. Missing out on chances because I never tried.”

Maybe that. He looked at the star and turned it again in his hands. There was more to it, sure, but he hadn’t expected to break out the philosophical questions. He hadn’t come prepared to unpack his greatest fear. He just hoped this one would be enough to count.

Super Sailor Perdita, Senshi of Plenty

Another room. Another door that sealed itself shut. More eerie fog around them. Perdita was less worried this time. Something could still go wrong at any moment, but they’d gotten out of the last room. They could get out of this one, too. As long as they stuck together, they would be fine.

She kept telling herself that. For now, she still believed it.

Just as she had in the last room, Perdita took a few moments to look around. She didn’t want to miss anything important, even if their task seemed straightforward. She joined Belmont at the sphere once she’d seen all there was, considering it much as she had in the previous room.

“I can’t imagine it gets a great variety of responses,” she said. “Most people tend to have fears in the same vein, don’t you think? If it wants the greatest ones.”

Perdita was nonetheless considerate of Belmont sharing his own. She heard him, of course, but she gave no indication that she would tease him or use the information against him in any way. She simply offered him a supportive smile and fell silent, pondering what she wanted to say for herself. She wondered how advisable it was to share something so personal with what amounted to an AI, especially with Chaos all around them, potentially manipulating things. Then again, if it attempted some sort of psychological attack with whatever information they offered, at least they’d be prepared ahead of time.

So Perdita decided on the truth. “Friends and family in peril.”

She knew that must be a common fear, but at the moment it was her greatest concern.

Eternal Sailor Tjilaki

Tjilaki didn’t really had to think about it too long. She feared being a failure. It was a weight that she had carried with her though her time as a senshi. It was a fear that gnawed at her confidence and haunted her dreams. She wanted to prove that she was

capable, that she was strong, that she was deserving of her powers, of being a Senshi.

Deep down she was determined to overcome it and prove to herself and others that was more than capable, that she was a warrior through and through. She was determined to not be a failure at all costs.

Mechelen Squire of Lysithea

Mechelen had followed Ngome and Perdita’s group, leading her own with her. It seemed smart to stay together, and she tried to be smart wherever possible. Whenever possible. This…seemed like a strange room…with a strange…desire. It wanted to know their greatest fears? Why? Was this going to somehow turn their fears against them? Was it some kind of a trap?

Slowly, Mechelen reached in and withdrew one of the fallen stars. …It looked tasty, but she kept herself from trying to see if it tasted like candy…this wasn’t the time or the place to try but.

“I’m afraid…of letting down those I care about…”

It felt…right to say that. It was the truth, even if she didn’t like the truth…it was…what it was. And she couldn’t change it.

Her eyes flickered to Halle, Almere and Ngome and she gave a soft sigh, shrugging. “I’m not…really sure what else to say, I guess…”

Connie, Squire of Chronos

There was too much fog. Too many chances for bugs to be hiding in the dark corners of the room. Oh, except the room was circular so there weren't really any corners to hide in, but still!

She was glad that Perdita had answered the Lysithea Squire’s question about her abilities. For a few moments, definitely longer than it should have taken her, she thought him asking about their abilities meant, well… talents! She assumed it was a Gen Z thing that she missed because she was too busy with her head in the clouds, but it made a lot more sense when Perdita answered about her magic.

Connie wasn’t entirely sure what her magic could do-- what her little tree could do! It was too fragile to use it to beat things up with!

They were trapped in a room again, and with everyone around, speaking their greatest fears…

“If I said ‘not bugs’ would that mean bugs won’t try to attack us?” she whimpered a bit dramatically. She wasn’t really afraid of bugs! She just had a bad history with them!

Perdita was right, of course. A lot of people tended to have similar fears. She was afraid of something happening to her family. Afraid of something happening to her friends, just as Perdita said. She didn’t want to die with regrets, either.

She couldn’t help herself. She reached over to give Perdita a quick hug, and then stepped over to do the same with Belmont, giving him a quick squeeze in a hopefully comforting gesture.

“My greatest fear… being useless,” she said quietly. She felt like it was true though. There wasn’t much she could do to actually help others. She could do some art, make some jewelry. But being a good knight? Or friend? She wasn’t sure she was doing a great job with that.

Not wanting to bring the mood down, she laughed quietly and shuffled her feet a bit.

“But also I don’t want bugs to show up.”

[Emain Ablach, Squire of Earth]

He was not a fan of the door closing behind them, nor of the fog that followed, but it hadn't led to anyone getting hurt so far. At least, not yet. So when it happened again, Emain Ablach just took a deep breath and turned toward the center to see what it was they needed to do this time. Like before, there was an orb in the center of the room. He assumed that, like before, the orb would clear out the fog once they activated it. So how to activate it?

Fallen stars, eh? Once the sphere opened and people began to shuffle forward, Emain Ablach got in queue to gently pluck one of the stars from the center. They were... cute. Adorable, really. He found himself wishing there was a way to take one back with him. He could give it to Tobias.

Focus, focus.

‘What is your greatest fear that you wish to avoid?’

Oh.

A curious stillness stole over Emain Ablach's face and posture, some of the colour draining from his skin. His greatest fear was an easy one. He'd seen it in his nightmares.

He knew that he had attacked Zebulon as a Negaverse agent, had even drained him to unconsciousness from what he'd been told. Tobias had tried to make him feel better about it at one point after his purification, when he could no longer remember any of it, and told him that he'd told them he had a superior officer there and felt compelled to carry through with it to protect Zebulon from any worse.

But what if it had been worse? What if he'd done worse than drain Zebulon? What if he hadn't, and his superior officer had stepped in to take care of it? What if Zebulon's starseed had been pulled, glittering, from his chest, never to return? And Zebulon's body had fallen irretrievably to the ground? He wouldn't've been able to do anything to save him, and he would have been forced to watch Zebulon's body die. He would have gotten a text, probably, or a call from Diryas or Tobias once the body was found and identified. His nightmares were quite cheerful in giving him visions of Zebulon on a coroner's slab.

What if that wasn't where it ended?

What if Zebulon had instead been awakened? What if whoever his superior officer had been instead decided that Zebulon belonged in the Negaverse? Emain Ablach knew Zebulon had a firm moral compass, but he also knew from first-hand experience that that didn't matter. The timelines he'd been given told Emain Ablach he'd been an agent for years. He had become a captain. Others became generals before they left, if they left.

If they left.

Images came to Emain Ablach's mind of Zebulon as a Negaverse agent. Of Imhotep finding out and knowing, somehow, that Ransomite would been involved, of Imhotep taking his revenge. And Emain Ablach knew deep in his gut that rank would not have mattered. Imhotep would have murdered him. Then, images of Imhotep dying in vain trying to convince Zebulon to purify, to come home.

Just as surely as Emain Ablach knew Imhotep would have murdered him, he knew that Imhotep's entreaties would have fallen on deaf ears. Zebulon was a good man. But good people still became Negaverse Generals. Hadn't Emain Ablach followed one out of the Negaverse?

Imhotep would be left with the choice to corrupt or die. He would have chosen death. Leaving Tobias, with no one to protect him. Gentle, kind Tobias, grieving and turning to the one person that remained. His nightmares were equally cheerful about giving him visions of that, too.

Waking a heartbroken and distraught Tobias as an agent wouldn't have taken any effort if Zebulon were the one to do it.

Emain Ablach's response to the object in his hand was murmured, strained.

Promethei, Squire of Mercury

Sadly, this particular challenge didn't come with a fun alien from whom he could enjoy some fantastic jokes about Cosmos's endowments. The moment the sphere opened its figurative mouth, the air felt heavier. As everyone approached and took a little fallen star, one by one, the attitudes seemed to shift; he overheard murmurs about fears and that was confirmed when he took one for himself; it was a question that felt alarmingly personal to the point where Promethei would have trouble getting himself to address it openly. The temptation was there to simply keep his mouth shut and not share that, or see if sharing something that was at least something he wasn't fond of the idea happening but wasn't the greatest one would actually work.

He was fairly sure it wouldn't, though. Magic was ******** bullshit. It could probably read his emotions or his thoughts somehow, or maybe it ran like a damn double-blind study. He could claim he was most afraid of spiders all he wanted to, but he wasn't afraid of spiders and he was almost positive this Mauvian sphere magic would know that.

He sighed.

So how did he address this?

What was his worst fear, in all honesty? It wasn't spiders, because he wasn't afraid of them. It wasn't a lack of leopard print, because as boring as the world would be without his favourite pattern, it would still be liveable. There were only a few things that would make the world an intolerable place for him, and to be honest, those same few things felt like they would make the world not even worth living in.

The loss of Imhotep. The loss of Amoris. The loss of Emain Ablach, who looked like he was going faint. What was he thinking about? If they were in a place that wasn't so public, he'd ask. As it was, he simply scooted a bit closer.

But it wasn't just the loss of them. It was a little more complicated than that.

Promethei couldn't quite hold back the imagery in his mind of how that wild-haired lieutenant had drained him, and how what used to be Ransomite had drained him. Taking him out of commission and making it so he was unable to fight or function had been tragic enough, but what could have happened after that when he was unable to help? What if that lieutenant had swung around on Diryas and drained him, too? Or worse, eaten his starseed? What if Tobias had been beaten to a pulp? What if that superior officer had decided that Ransomite had done a bad job, and ended him right then and there?

The last one was a complicated can of worms; Promethei knew that Ransomite had done some terrible things, but in hindsight, Ransomite was Emain Ablach, and as the anger faded, having his quartet back was more important.

... But it terrified him to think that something might happen to him to destroy them.

"I won't be able to protect my husbands." He murmured to the little realistic version of a star candy.

I won't be able to protect my husbands.

[Imhotep, Page of Mercury]

When he saw the colour drain out of Emain Ablach's face, a minute frown crossed Imhotep's. He debated asking if Emain Ablach was going to make it, but instead opted to remain silent. The Earth knight wasn't going to die. If he was going to die, then Imhotep would step in and ask if he was alright.

When it was Imhotep's turn, he grabbed one of the stars in his hands, certainly needing to use both to securely hold the object. It was the matter of his greatest fear that gave him pause. It seemed like such a terribly intimate thing to ask, and what if confessing it led to something bad later on? He glanced around, watching people speak into their stars. Well, there would be no shortage of material, it seemed.

When in Rome, et cetera.

But was Imhotep's greatest fear? Death? Of course he wanted to avoid dying. But there were fates worse than death. Forced corruption, for one, if some of the things he'd seen were any indication. Service to Metallia in general, for example.

He gave a surreptitious glance Emain Ablach's way, then turned his attention back to what he was holding.

He feared Zebulon and Tobias' deaths. He feared his family's. But those were normal fears. It was normal to want your loved ones to stay alive and well, wasn't it? Then he couldn't say those were his worst fears. They worried him, often to a great deal, but they were not what kept him up at night.

Blood splashed dark on the pavement. Blonde hair splayed out under a pale face gone ashen. Hazel eyes staring unseeing into the sky--

No. It wasn't his death, wasn't his death, that Imhotep was most afraid of, either. Again, there were fates worse than death, and fearing death was normal. Most humans feared death. And had he touched a hair on Tobias' head, Imhotep would have killed him, himself.

Blood splashed dark on the pavement. Blonde hair splayed out under a pale face gone ashen. Hazel eyes staring wide, too wide, terrified-wide as a hand closed itself around a pale throat. A figure in dark clothes--was the black symbolism or a conceit?--knelt down. Another hand splayed wide on a pale chest, but not to take.

No, to give--to give a terrible gift. A gift that had been given back, and didn't he know it was rude to return a gift?

Didn't he know he didn't have a
choice?

Chaos welled up black and undulating around the hand and then, with a shove, disappeared into that chest as it rose in a choked scream. Hazel eyes were staring unseeing into the sky as before, but the pale chest continued to rise and fall in ragged gasps even after the scream ended. Then the breathing evened out.

And when the hazel eyes looked to Imhotep, to Promethei, to Amoris, there was no recognition there.

Imhotep glanced to Emain Ablach discreetly a second time. Briefly, their eyes met, and then Emain Ablach looked away quickly. His color was healthy, the hazel eyes bright, and there was no blood on the pavement. There had been recognition in that moment. His clothing was intact.

After a pause to ascertain that these things were indeed the case, Imhotep murmured nearly silently to his star, "them coming back for him."

Squire Halle of Lysithea

Watching Ngome end up moving to the other room, Halle nodded quietly to himself. They could ask her later what the challenge in there was compared to what awaited them here. Who knew when they'd find themselves in similar predicaments in the future? Especially since these were apparently made by Mauvians and not necessarily solely on Urania.

Holding the the "star" that vaguely reminded him of the ones in Animal Crossing, Halle thought while others voiced their, very reasonable, fears. In all honesty, they felt like the sort of fears that knights and senshi should have. The things they should be worrying and anxious over every night they powered up and patrolled. The fears that could keep motivating them to be stronger, better. And Halle couldn't say he didn't feel similar.

But his greatest fear...

With a sigh, disliking having to show this sort of personal vulnerability to anyone, let alone a room full of strangers, but not at all willing to seem shady or secretive about it either, he said flatly to the star, "My greatest fear is people leaving."

If he was too weak, he could get stronger. Too stupid, he could get smarter. If someone he cared about was in danger, he could put himself between them and that danger in as many ways as he could manage. But he couldn't keep people from making the decision to leave, at least not forever.

He didn't look at anybody after he said it, especially not Mechelen or Almere.

Page Almere

Her fear?

She knew, immediately, what her answer was. Being alone, being weak? All of that had been her reality not that long ago. She'd used to be kind of a nobody, the one with no friends who sat in the back of the class, the one with only okayish grades and her head in the clouds.

She'd liked to pretend she was a hero in one of her stories, but if a monster had found her back then, she wouldn't have been able to do anything about it.

Now, she was magical. She was strong enough to protect people, and she was surrounded by people she cared about.

"I'm scared this is all another dream,"
she whispered into a star.

Although, she knew it wasn't all a fairy tale. She remembered seeing all those agents at that clinic. She'd been scared that something really bad was going to happen.

"But I'm also scared that if it's real, there might be parts I'm not ready for."

Transcended Eternal Encke

While Viatrix occupied herself with talking with one of the globes, Encke decided to take the time to go move to one of the next rooms. If this was not only the only structure but the main structure of Urania, he could come back to the new room that just opened up once he helped clear out more of the chaotic infestation. He was incredibly curious about it, so much that it burned in his bones.

But there was one step at a time, and it worse came to worst, he would always have time to ask Urania to show him around some more. Perhaps he could bring a little hot pot warmer to help give her flashbacks of the meals she once shared with her people. That would feel nice, he thought--

Nicer than this damn ever-present smog.

The device designed by an ancient Mauvian was telling them to take fallen stars. Encke waited until everyone had started backing away to approach and take one of his own. The question it asked was daunting to someone who lived in paranoia like he frequently did. What was his greatest fear? He knew of the obvious places he could branch off, of course, and let his brain dive into the murk of that. There was corruption, obviously, especially of those who could logically still be corrupted. Death, perhaps permanent. Chaos succeeding in their mission and destroying the entire earth, Metallia, whatever the ******** she actually was, eventually consuming it.

All of these things kept him up at night, and it was hard to pinpoint an easy one until he looked down at his hands.

Transcendence protected him, of course. He knew that logically. A fear did not frequently come from a place of logic. It sometimes took leaps of logic, too, and extracted it to other things around him. He had once experienced what could happen beyond simple corruption. Encke had been part of that. He had experienced it, and it was enough to turn his stomach when he extracted that nightmare to something else.

Pendour was theoretically safe, but what if she wasn't? Basiluzzo was theoretically safe, but what if he wasn't? Anser was theoretically safe, but what if she wasn't? Nectaris wasn't. Stromboli wasn't. Safira wasn't. His brain bounced from person to person, finding no one to cling to except the air as he paced in a circle as a way to control his energy and attempt to tamp down on his spiral. What if he and Nectaris went into a battle, and an officer, tired of seeing her damn face at all, pumped so much chaos into her starseed that it simply relented to the magic power and became something still other beyond Sylvite?

Sylvite was saved. A youma could be too, but it was much harder.

"I fear those I love being entirely consumed by chaos." Entirely consumed, their starseeds fracturing, and leaving a new, hopelessly devoted youma in their place.

Belmont, Squire of Jupiter

As the meteorite in his hands began to glow, Belmont looked up and around the room at the others. There was an array of different colors illuminating the room. It created a magical glow that made him feel oddly at ease. Within these walls, everyone had expressed a vulnerability. Some louder than others. Some probably more honest than others.

The Chaos hadn't squirmed its way out to prey on their greatest weaknesses, and for that he was relieved. One less thing to worry about. For now.

He breathed a sigh of relief as he returned the meteorite.

"Okay," he said slowly, and looked around. "Doesn't seem like there's any bugs here to worry about." He nudged Connie's side gently with his elbow. "If any show up, I'll chase them off for you. You too, Perdita."

He'd gotten pretty good at stomping on bugs. Honestly, he'd be happier if that was the worst thing they had to deal with here.

He couldn't make out much of this room, even with the light from their wishes. "...You think there's any useful information here?" Although, he couldn't really read anything on his Wonder; he doubted he could read anything here.
